Steps On A Cloud
Cat: TR 328. Rel: 29 Feb 24

Funk
Steps On A Cloud (4:14)
Whispering (5:18)
Review: German label Tramp continues pack a serious punch when it comes to funk with this newest 7". It is a standalone pressing of two superb cuts from the fourth volume in the Can You Feel It compilation series. Up first is the super cool funk of 'Steps On A Cloud' with its dynamic drums and indie male vocal all back with some neat and funky guitar lines and almost prog style guitar freestyles. On the B-side you will find 'Whispering' which has not yet been re-issued so makes an exclusive appearance here.

Soul Fever (reissue)
Cat: TR 317. Rel: 25 May 23

Soul
Soul Fever (2:49)
A Whole Lotta Lovin' (2:36)
Review: Germany's potent Tramp is back with more well dug out sounds from the funk vaults, this time with the serious heavy Marvelle & The Blue Match at the helm. This two-track 45rpm was first released on Lenny LaCour's Magic Touch label and is one that now fetches a pretty penny on the second hand market. The A-side is a dynamite bit of soul infused funk with guttural vocal cries and scuzzy guitar lines taking you back to the 60s. On the flip, 'A Whole Lotta Lovin' carries on hitting hard with wall-of-sound production and heavy rock riffs underpinned by a killer bassline.

Sax On The Rocks
Sax On The Rocks (7" + insert)
Cat: TR 316. Rel: 29 Jun 23

Funk
Sax On The Rocks (2:22)
Arabian Night (2:10)
Review: Germany's mighty fine Tramp label asks you to enjoy some Sax on The Rocks here courtesy of mod-soul monster Gus Brendel. This classic of the genre has never been available on 45rpm before now and is sure to fly off the shelves as a result. It's a sax laced - obviously - seducer with a funky rhythm and steaming hot organ chords doing a busy dance. If you flip it over, you'll find a real ass-wiggler in the form of 'Arabian Nights' which was actually recorded a couple of years before the title track on the A-side. It's another steamy dance floor gem.

Cosmonaut
Cat: TR 1052. Rel: 27 Jul 23

Funk
Cosmonaut (3:19)
Off The Clock (3:05)
Review: The Oscillators say they are not a band but instead "an experimental recording collaboration that turned out swimmingly." Back in June they dropped a brilliantly psyched-out soul and funk album that represents their native Seattle scene and was as deep and raw as you can imagine. Now they are back on Tramp with a potent 7" featuring two more super tight cuts. Led by drummer oLLi kLoMp with other members from bands like Rippin' Chicken, the Pulsations, Lucky Brown, the Trueloves and 45th Street Brass, this debut 45rpm features the horn-led heavy funk of 'Cosmonaut' and more percolating and deep cut sounds of 'Off The Clock'.

Step By Step

Disco/Nu-Disco
Step By Step (3:48)
Haselief (4:02)
Review: The mighty Tramp label is as good as it gets when talking about soul sounds. It has been serving them up for loans and has never allowed the quality levels to drop. This latest one is another superb 45rpm from Matter of Taste. This group originally released their debut album on the small German imprint Flame in 1979 and it had one standout cut which is the one presented here. 'Step By Step' is the sort of epic disco burner that lights up the club with its catchy claps, sweet vocals and funky riffs. On the flip is 'Haselief' which completely flips the script and offers an utterly different sound, but one that you need just as much.

Without Your Love (reissue)
Cat: TR 323. Rel: 23 Nov 23

Soul
Without Your Love (3:57)
The Real Deal (3:55)
Review: The much loved Tramp label is mighty good at serving up the soul and this time it is the buttery smooth sounds of Stroke they turn to for this reissue. The original 45rpm is one of those rare as hens' teeth cuts that cost way too much to buy even if you do track one down. The A-side is the sort of wonderfully uplifting tune that brings life-affirming joy to your life. On the flip is something really quite different - a more rock-tinged funky stepper by the name of 'The Real Deal'.

Space Dream
Space Dream (7" limited to 300 copies)
Cat: TR 1053. Rel: 31 Aug 23

Funk
Space Dream (version)
Scatterbrain (Rehearsal)
Review: The mighty Tramp label is back with another 7" of funk that will pack a real punch on any cultured dancefloor. This time out it is Lucky Brown's Crawdad Farmers aka The Funk Revolution who serve up 'Space Dream,' a track named to commemorate a soulfunk masquerade party trumpet player Lucky Brown aka Joel Ricci threw at a Bellingham Washington music venue many years ago. The a-side features a version that is lo-fi and raw, a real jumbled of loose drums and funky leads, then comes a rehearsal version of 'Scatterbrain' which his another slow and purposeful funk workout.
