Notes: DRONE38 is a sound generator with 18 oscillators in total, organized in six groups of three oscillators each. 12 of them can be switched between sawtooth and triangle waves, 6 are fixed sawtooth oscillators.

The groups can be mixed individually with 3 mixer knobs, where each 2 groups can be assigned to the level. Additionally, each group can be activated /"played" with buttons near the group.

The oscillators are not meant to be controlled by CVs, but only set static with a knob. By mixing them, very dense drones and clusters can be created.

Additionally, 6 oscillators can be synced to other ones for extending the sonic palette.

Notes: The ENVFOLLOWER/EXT.IN module brings external sound sources in your AE modular; it does this in different aspects:

The module has two mono audio inputs for external sources; one unbalanced for line level signals like audio players, tapes, portable recorders, and a balanced one for directly attaching microphones (dynamic and self powered condenser mics, but not phantom powered ones). This input signal is brought then to AE level.

Now, from the input signal an envelope is derived, giving the volume of the signal as CV which can control what you want, e.g. filter cutoff, pitch or what else is CV controllable within your AE system. The SMOOTH knob controls the shape of the envelope/suppression of the audio signal component.

Finally, the ENVFOLLOWER module provides a gate signal, indicating that the level of the audio input is above a certain level that can be set with the GATE THRES knob.

Notes: The 2CVADD-HQ is a dual precision adder especially for adding 1V/octave (pitch-controlling) CVs. This makes it possible e.g. to transpose a sequence. Compared to general purpose CV mixers (like POLAMIX), this module does the summing of the CVs very precise (within a few millivolts), so the desired pitch is not affected.

The module offers three CV inputs for each of the both units; the first unit has an additional fourth input where the CV is subtracted - meaning "transposition downwards".

If you would like to have transposition buttons to shift by one or two octaves (or a free offset), take a look at the CVADDER-HQ module.

Notes: The 6MUTE module is made for click-free muting of up to 6 audio channels. For each channel, a high quality button mutes and unmutes the corresponding channel. The button is illuminated, so you get a visual feedback about the mute-state of each channel.

The signal is not simply cut off hard for muting, but faded out in a very short time to avoid clicks and pops. So it is perfectly suitable for live usage, too!

Notes: The classic ADSR envelope with CV control for all parameters

The ADSR module offers the classic four-stage envelope (Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release) that is not only loopable (patch the end output into gate input) but also accepts CV control over each of the stages! For the time values (A, D, R) the value set by the knob can be increased to five times the duration by the corresponding CV value. For the Sustain value the knob and CV value are simply added.

Notes: Try new circuits directly in the AE modular!

The BRAEDBOARD (no typo!) contains a breadboard area for solderless electronics prototyping so you can experiment with any kind of analog or digital electronics and make your first steps into electronics, starting with simple circuits for beginners to developing your own module.

Beyond the basic breadboard area, this module offers some benefit especially related to the AE modular system:

The left sockets make all bus signals available (CV, Gate, control, MIDI strt/stop/clock) and can be patched directly from here into your circuit
The leftmost row of the upper breadboard (the red one) is connected to +5V
The leftmost row of the lower breadboard (the black one) is connected to ground
The right sockets contains two units of the usual output resistor of 1k

Notes: The COMPACTMIXER module is complete "final" mixer for your AE system; if offers the following features:

An internal connector allows the extension of input channels by a future extension module (similar to MIXCONSOLE/3CH)

Notes: The DIODEFILTER is an adaption of the well-known diode ladder filter that became most popular by Roland's TB-303 bassline. And here it is for the AE modular!

Notes: DRONX is a special mixer designed especially for the DRONE38 module; if has 6 input channels (so you can connect two DRONE38 modules) and offers some sound processing capabilities: A tone control with bass and treble control, a distortion, and finally a dual delay with different algorithms. Two insert points allow to add up to two more audio effects to the internal signal chain. Together with the DRONE38 module(s) you get a quite nice drone synth for dense, dark soundscapes.

Of course, it can be used with any other sound sources!

Notes: The FILTERBANK914 is designed after the famous Moog 914 Fixed Filterbank. It includes 12 bandpass filters with fixed center frequencies and additionally a lowpass- and a highpass filter. Control knobs for all the frequency bands allow individual mixing of the bands. This is especially useful for shaping the sound spectrum similar to acoustic instruments - they get their character by certain frequency peaks, so called "formants".

This module is different to (and not a good choice as) a multiband equalizer. The equalizer can increase/decrease certain bands in the range of e.g. -12...+12dB, with the signal unchanged with all controls in center position. In contrast, the FILTERBANK914 controls are attenuators over the full level, meaning the individual band is completely muted when the knob is turned completely counter-clockwise.

As a special feature, the module has separate outputs for "even" and "odd" bands, meaning that one output only contains the sum of half the bandpasses, the other one the remaining ones. This leads to some type of "pseudo stereo".

Notes: HEARTBEAT is a master clock source for AE modular, with some additional features. The module offers:

Precise BPM setting with an encoder in the range of 30-300 BPM in steps of 0.1 BPM
A graphical display for the tempo and additional info and menu
A big tap button for setting the tempo by tapping it
An illuminated start/stop button
Six independent clock outputs; each of them can be configured by a menu to a time signature between 1/1 to 1/32th plus dotted and triplets.
Inputs for clock, reset and two CV and trigger inputs that can be assigned to different functions

The clock source can be either internal or an external clock (at 1/96th rate which corresponds to MIDI real time control, e.g. the bus clock in the AE generated by the MASTER module)

Notes: The HEARTBEAT EXTENDER expands the functionality of the HEARTBEAT module. It is connected to the HEARTBEAT module with a small ribbon cable (included) and offers following features:

Six preset buttons to store and recall different tempos with one button press

MIDI in and out sockets with LED indicators: The HEARTBEAT module can follow incoming MIDI timing data (MIDI start/stop/clock) as an additional option; and the current tempo of the HEARTBEAT is sent out as MIDI timing data if it acts as master clock in a complete system - other MIDI devices will follow it's tempo.

A knob that controls either the swing amount or the transition time when changing from one preset to another (known as accelerando/ritardando).

A lock switch, that disable the save button and other functions that could be an issue e.g. in live situations.

Notes: The module was named Kuzmin Filter in the past as a tribute to the developer of the Polivoks, Vladimir Kuzmin. For certain reasons, the module will now be called GRUNGE Filter (due to the sound), with the circuitry remaining unchanged.

The Polivoks was a Russian synth that was produced between 1982 and 1990.This module is the AE version of the filter that gave the Polivoks a unique, rough sound.

Beyond the basic design, this filter offers some additional features:

Two different resonance characteristics, hard and soft
An FM function, that adds the input signal to the modulation of the filter
An optional overdrive for the output, making the sound even more rough and untamed.

Notes: MODULATORS is a multifunctional module offering different kinds of modulation sources in a 1U module. It is designed especially with very small AE systems in mind.

Notes: Unique, vintage reverb sound.

The SPRINGREVERB module brings the unique sound of this quite old (introduced in the 60's) technique for creating reverbs to the AE modular.

The reverb works by sending the audio signal to a set of 3 springs; at the other end of the springs the sound is picked up by a transducer, converting the mechanical movement of the springs back into an electrical signal. When the audio signal arrives at the end of the springs, the waves are reflected several times; these reflections create the reverb sound.

The spring "tank" (a metal box containing the springs and transducers, size approx. 24 x 9 x 3.5 cm) is connected externally by a cable.

The product contains all components: The module itself, the spring tank and the connection cable.

Note: The sound of a spring reverb is quite unique and has a strong vintage character; if you are looking for a more "clean", natural sounding reverb please take a look at the MULTIFX module.

Notes: With the STOMP-IO module, you can integrate guitar effect pedals and similar devices into your AE modular system! For output (send) and input (return) return there is a mono minijack socket; two minijack to 1/4" socket adapters are included as effect pedals usually work with the latter ones. Send and return levels can be controlled with separate knobs.

Notes: The TBD module is a multifunctional DSP (digital signal processing) module that includes more than 30 different synthesis and audio processing plugins. It is a collaboration project between CTAG Kiel (an academic working group of Kiel University of Applied Sciences), instrumentsofthings.com (who produce this module for Eurorack) and tangiblewaves.

The module looks quite simplistic with it's only three knobs and three buttons, but the power lies in the web based user interface for editing and storing the parameters. For editing, the module is connected via USB to your computer and a small software tool running here is the bridge to the editing of the parameters via your web browser. IMPORTANT TO KNOW: When the editing is done, the module runs autonomously, without a computer!

Up to 10 favourites can be stored on the module and be chosen by the CONFIG button.

Dynamic control of the modules' parameters works via the two CV inputs and two trigger inputs (which are linked to two buttons), and two knobs are also available for live tweaking parameters. The assignment of inputs/knobs to actual parameters is done in the web based user interface.

Please note that the TBD module has mono audio input and output (compared to the Eurorack version which is stereo); plugins that do stereo audio work also in the AE TBD, but only on one channel. ("Why only mono?" you might ask; the limitation to mono is due to licensing agreements to keep the module price in the usual AE range.

Notes: It takes incoming triggers and repeats them - you can think of it as a delay module for triggers. The delay time and the number of repeats can be set with a knob and additionally be CV controlled. Beyond of static delay, the delays of one input trigger can be accelerated or decelerated, leading to the rhythm of a bouncing ball. In another mode, the probability of the output triggers can be chosen.

Different output modes change the assignment of the delays to the eight outputs; either, all delayed triggers for one input trigger are on one output, or the delays go through the outputs 1...8. By this, complex events can be triggered.

Finally, the acceleration and the gate time can be CV controlled as well.

The module is "polyphonic" in a sense, that consecutive triggers at the input don't stop currently running trigger outputs from a previous trigger, but mixing them all. Together with variable delay times and acceleration, highly complex trigger patterns can appear on each of the eight outputs.

Notes: A high-quality digital wavetables oscillator

The WAVETABLES module is a digital oscillator that is based of wavetables, a technique that become popular first with the famous PPG synthesizer. Here, a huge number of digital waveforms can be "scanned", resulting in a morphing between a variety of interesting spectral structures.

The module offers seven different table sets, in each of them an interesting spectral move happens via the WAVE knob. Of course, this can be modulated by an external CV too.

To "fatten" the sound, the DETUNE/SPREAD knob adds a second oscillator with a variable detune up to one octave.

Pitch and wave modulation have an attenuator knob to set the amount of modulation, plus a switch to choose between unipolar (modulation CV is added to the current value) or bipolar (modulation swings above and below the current value).

The table position of the currently played waveform has a visual representation by an LED that changes it's color in the rainbow spectrum.

WAVETABLES is based on a quite powerful processor, the output is 16-bit audio, resulting in a high-quality sound.

This module was developed by Paula Maddox from DOVE audio; known by the excellent synthesizers MODAL 002, MODAL 008 and we are proud and happy that Paula offered to contribute this excellent work for the AE modular product line.

Notes: XMIX is a swiss knife for signal mixing and attenuating, offering four(!) mixers and two attenuators in a 1U module. It is designed especially with very small AE systems in mind.

All mixers can be used / switched for audio and CV signals.

Notes: The CVSHIFTER module is the AE version of the well-known analogue shift register modules that are around in the modular world since a long time. It works like this: The CV input is sampled with each trigger input signal and this CV is sent to the CV 1 output; at the same time, all CV outputs 1-4 are shifted by one.

Compared to the "classic" circuits, this module is digital based and therefore doesn't suffer from drift as some analogue ASRs and S&Hs do. The result is, that you can e.g. control the pitch of up to four oscillators which is a first step into polyphony.

The CVSHIFTER module offers three modes:

Classic: Each trigger shifts the CV outs by one position, the new CV goes to output CV 1
Cycle: Each trigger sends the CV to the next output channel, restarting at out 1; additionally a gate signal at the according output.
Random: The CVs are sent in random order to one of the four outputs, plus a gate at the according output.
