Listen To My Heart: Life Love & Roxette by Marie Fredriksson
Cat: 954161

Listen to My Heart is a completely candid and passionate, heartbreaking yet often witty life story of one of rock music's most resilient lead singers, Marie Fredriksson from Roxette
Notes: Listen to My Heart is a completely candid and passionate, heartbreaking yet often witty life story of one of rock music's most resilient lead singers, Marie Fredriksson from Roxette (''It Must Have Been Love,'' ''Listen to Your Heart,'' ''The Look,'' ''Joyride'').

Given only a few months to live following a harrowing diagnosis in 2002, Marie boldly forged ahead into a life with newfound courage and inspiration. She continued as both a solo singer and with Roxette, where she performed over 550 concerts, sold 75 million records, and released over 50 singles including several global hits. In all, Roxette is Sweden's biggest music group-second only to ABBA.

Filled with behind-the-scenes stories involving everyone from Tina Turner and Elton John to The Rolling Stones and Frank Sinatra, Listen to My Heart also explores her humble family beginnings, an early tragedy in the sudden loss of Marie's sister, her transition into the music industry as a solo artist, and the formation and challenges of being in one of the world's most successful pop groups. All while trying to maintain a stable marriage and being a mother to two young children in the face of a life-altering illness. Marie passed away in the aftermath of her diagnosis in December, 2019.

Heart-wrenching yet winning, and told with exceptional energy and sincerity, Listen to My Heart sheds new and revelatory light on the life and work of one of our generation's most talented and courageous artists.

Contains a foreword by Marie's longtime friend, director Jonas Akerlund (Madonna, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, U2) and over 100 personal photographs, live and backstage shots, and memorabilia images.

Sleepaway Camp: Making The Movie & Reigniting The Campfire by Jeff Hayes

Hardbound book w/signed bookplate by author Jeff Hayes / 6" x 9" / 200 pages
Notes: Hardbound Book w/Signed Bookplate by author Jeff Hayes / 6" x 9" / 200 pages

Both the book and music packaging for the CD and vinyl were designed by Hagcult, who previously worked with 1984 Publishing on Clark Collis' acclaimed You're Got Red on You: How Shaun of the Dead Came to Life, plus on artwork for officially-licensed Halloween and Vampira merchandise. The Sleepaway Camp releases also feature the original hand-drawn one-sheet artwork by David Schleinkofer.

About Jeff Hayes (author): Jeff Hayes is a filmmaker who has made independent short films, documentaries, and even a handful of experimental feature-length films (mostly horror-related, of course). Jeff has run the official site SleepawayCampMovies.com for over two decades and co-produced Robert Hiltzik's Return to Sleepaway Camp. Jeff is also a vocalist and music producer who was lead singer for several bands and released two '80s/'90s-influenced solo albums. He enjoys spending time with his cats Sadie and Dexter (named after another one of his favorite characters) and is a supporter of NeadyCats.org. Married to his lovely wife (and always his co-producer) Cheryl since 2005, the couple reside in picturesque Massachusetts. This is his first book.

The Inner Ear Of Don Zientara by Antonia Tricarico
Cat: 950553

250 photographs of and testimonials of Don Zientara from members of Fugazi, Scream, Fire Party, Shudder To Think, Jawbox, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and more
Notes: n the late 1970s, Don Zientarai - a conscientious objector to the Vietnam War - founded Inner Ear Studio in the basement of his home in Arlington, VA, using the electronics training he received from the army. Inner Ear remained in Don's basement until its 1990 relocation to a larger space on South Oakland Street. Along the way, Inner Ear became best known for recording iconic DC punk musicians including Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Bikini Kill, Rites of Spring, Mary Timony, and Fugazi.

Composed by photographer Antonia Tricarico, The Inner Ear of Don Zientara is an oral history of not just Inner Ear's recordings, but the role that Don played in creating one of the most welcoming and nurturing recording studios the world over. Alongside 250 photographs, this volume includes testimonials from members of Fugazi, Scream, Fire Party, Shudder to Think, Jawbox, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Dismemberment Plan, as well as musicians like Kathleen Hanna and Henry Rollins, among other notables.

In addition to DC punk bands, Don also recorded many other styles and genres, including Celtic folk tunes, harp music, Russian balalaika groups, political advertisers, and choral singers. The studio was also featured on Dave Grohl's Sonic Highways television mini-series. The Inner Ear of Don Zientara pays tribute to this iconic studio, celebrating the man at the heart of this remarkable space.

Keep Your Eyes Open by Glen E Friedman
Cat: 950556

This revised edition of Keep Your Eyes Open features brand-new photos and an interview with Friedman and Fugazi singer/guitarist Ian MacKaye.
Notes: Fugazi, one of music's most revolutionary and gloriously indefinable bands, played their first concert on September 3, 1987. The first edition of Keep Your Eyes Open: The Fugazi Photographs of Glen E. Friedman was released by Burning Flags Press exactly twenty years later. This revised edition features brand-new photos and an interview with Friedman and Fugazi singer/guitarist Ian MacKaye.

Keep Your Eyes Open presents the best of Friedman's unparalleled photographic documentation of Fugazi's members in almost 200 colour and black-and-white images captured by Friedman onstage and off between 1986 and Fugazi's last US concert in 2002.

Fugazi evolved from Washington, DC's, hardcore punk scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s. While it would be impossible to fully capture Fugazi in any one medium, Friedman's book effectively complements the band's Dischord Records catalog, which includes seven studio albums, one soundtrack, three EPs, and hundreds of live concert CDs produced from Fugazi's own soundboard recordings.

Fugaziia band dedicated to democratic self-management, highlighted by complete artistic and financial control - booked its own tours worldwide, and was often the first band to perform in unconventional venues around the world in order to maintain ticket prices that averaged just five dollars, a practice that opened many new venue doors to other touring artists. In addition, Fugazi has never marketed or licensed its name or likeness for posters, T-shirts, pins, or other ancillary merchandise. Fugazi's unwavering respect for its audience is one of the band's most indelible marks on modern music. The band went on indefinite hiatus in late 2002.

Voices In The First Person Volume 2 [Art & Language Of) by William Parker Voices In The First Person Volume 2 [Art & Language Of) by William Parker Voices In The First Person Volume 2 [Art & Language Of) by William Parker Voices In The First Person Volume 2 [Art & Language Of) by William Parker Voices In The First Person Volume 2 [Art & Language Of) by William Parker
Notes: Throughout his life as an artist of increasing renown, William Parker has always made it a point to shine light on those who do not as often receive recognition for their work, and from whose work Parker has found great resonance with and received great inspiration from.

This is the second volume of Parker's beautifully produced & printed 'Voices In The First Person' books, which use a similar approach, but also include extensive reproductions of artwork, poetry, photographs created by the four featured artists. Looking through this new volume, and again through the first volume, they bring to mind issues of Wax Poetics books on my shelves. Deep illuminating explorations of exceptionally gifted and multifarious artists, with the difference here being that the vast bulk of the text is, =yes=, in those artists' own voices & words.

From William Parker's introductions to each chapter:

Jalalu-Kalvert Nelson (trumpeter, composer, improvisor): "Jalalu was born with a special gift: the ability to hear his dreams. And translate them into Sound, words, and images...Wherever he is, the joy of music follows...Dancing into the horizon, constantly interacting with beautiful worlds of Sound and silence. Jalalu is unique in his vision of creativity."

Alan "Juice" Glover (saxophonist, composer, improvisor, activist, filmmaker, historian): "I met Alan in 1973 and began training in advanced music rooted in the tradition of being oneself. Alan is a multidimensional renaissance person, improviser, composer, inventor, photographer, and filmmaker who has moved through several phases of creativity...He continues to explore the many manifestations of enlightenment."

Steve Swell (trombonist, composer, improvisor, painter, poet): "Steve is a trombonist and composer. In this book, he shares another side of himself; we get a glimpse of his poetry, visual art, and musical composition. He has been consistently productive for the past forty-five years, soaring above America's anti-artist environment to allow beautiful things to flow through him."

Christopher Collins (poet, painter, essayist, wood sculptor): "Christopher was a human being who loved nature. On its terms. He acknowledged the majesty of trees, streams, and back roads. He knew how to bring out and show the beauty of simple things...Poet and philosopher visual artist, he danced to his inner song living on the edge for eighty-five years as a reluctant divine."

Volume 2 features Alan "Juice" Glover, Jalalu-Kalvert Nelson, Steve Swell, & Christopher Collins. Interviews, artwork, poetry, music scores, essays, & more.

144 page paperback, perfect-bound, private press, voluminously illustrated, offset printed edition

The Song Of The Machine by David Blot & Mathias Cousin
Cat: 955349 Rel: 01 Jan 90

A pulsating graphic novel on the epic history of electronic music, from the heyday of disco in the 1970s to the rave culture of the 1990s and beyond
Notes: With a foreword from house music legends Daft Punk, The Song of the Machine is a celebration of a musical wave that swept across the world over decades, demographics, and dance styles. Originally published in 2000 in France, and updated through today for this first English edition, the electrifying narrative introduces readers to the harbingers of the genre, such as David Mancuso, Larry Levan, and Frankie Knuckles (known as the "Godfather of House Music"); the prototypes of modern-day nightclubs and dance venues, like The Loft and Studio 54 in New York City, the Palace in Paris, and the Hacienda in Manchester, England, and of course, the technology and machines that first produced and synthesized the records that galvanized a movement.

Told through exciting illustrations that evolve with the era they describe, and complete with specially curated playlists for each and every decade, The Song of the Machine recounts the influences and inspirations, the people and epic parties that created and defined this revolutionary music.

Notes: A thrilling account of life with Sun Ra's Arkestra and New York's avant-garde jazz scenes of the 1970s-90s. In this memoir, Harlem-born trumpeter Ahmed Abdullah recounts decades of national and international touring with the Sun Ra Arkestra and charts the rise of the New York loft jazz scene, offering a fascinating portrait of advanced music in Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan from the 1970s through the 1990s, including thrilling stories about the politically important Bed-Stuy venue The East and the author's tutelage under composer and long-time Archie Shepp collaborator Cal Massey. Trumpeter and educator Ahmed Abdullah was born in Harlem in 1947. An important figure in the New York loft jazz movement, in 1972 he formed a group called Abdullah, two years before joining the Sun Ra Arkestra, with whom he played for more than 20 years. David Corio began his freelance photography career in 1978 after leaving art school at the age of 18. Moving to London he began taking portraits and going to concerts and clubs across the capital for personal projects and as assignments for New Musical Express, Time Out, The Face and Black Echoes. Notes: Wu-Tang Clan 1994-2004 was published in May 2023, is 14cm x 20cm and has 36 colour pages.

"Of Wu Tang and things... I'd say off the bat it's the Ol' dirty bastard, asking me to destroy the negatives, that will never leave me. Meth showing me his new trick with eye and cap. U-god with a plaster on his face. The Rza in a bath tub at the Met hotel. Watching the entire Wu-Tang Clan getting passport pictures at Earl Court station. The Shows. The distinct smell of blunts and weed that hung in the air. Papa Wu inviting me on the coach and traveling from Putney to Kentish Town with a pit stop in Earls Court. Young dirty Bastard's performance of Shimmy Shimmy Ya Shimmy Yam Shimmy yah. From the first encounter to my last, the Wu have never failed to disappoint.

The first time I met the Wu-Tang was in 1994, they were meant to be in a sound check, and were instead throwing rocks at passing trains, It was a hallmark of every encounter, a wild ride. The concert was scheduled for the Kentish Town Forum and word had gone around they where in London. In my hunt for them I went to the record company and my first encounter with the Wu-Tang began as they were coming out of the building on their way to Kentish Town to do their soundcheck. I heard them before I saw them, so my camera was ready. I managed to get on the coach and rolled with them while they listened to deep soul music. Their passion for the life of Hip Hop is undeniable and our hook ups were built on the premise that I was documenting Hip Hop through my photography.

On the second occasion I was working for MixMag and the shoot was scheduled in a photographic studio. I would share the time slot with Time Out who were running a cover story. On that occasion, I had hoped to complete my Wu collection, I didn't. The Rza didn't appear.

The third time I encountered the Wu it was just the Rza and he was in full Bobby Digital mode and that meant his iconography was masked by a conceptual identity.

The fourth was Cappadona in Brixton but the last time was in Los Angeles and there I met Ol Dirty's son. He came through to host my show in LA. On the opening night we held a block party in the car park of Melrose where the RZA rolled through and spent the whole night holding court.

We exchanged words as I toured the gallery giving him the details of all the times we'd met. We had a PlayStation with the Wu Tang game on it. Young Dirty smashed it. I took one shot that night, just one. It's been 25 years in the making.

What you have here a rarified glimpse at the lead images and contact sheets of seeking out members of the Wu-Tang Clan and putting their mythos on blast. I got one shot. This was the last time we held a cipher."

Northern Soul 1993-1996 by Elaine Constantine

36-page staple bound book
Notes: "It was Saturday night, the year was 1993, and I had recently moved to London to try to push my photography career along when I went down to the 100 club where they play rare American 60's and 70's soul music.

I had been on that scene up until a few years before and was curious to see where it had gone in the meantime, so I took my camera along with me. Going down those stairs into that dark basement, seeing those shadowy figures moving energetically in sync with each other made me hesitant.

The scene had gone further underground, the crowd older, little new blood, the records more obscure and the attitude on the dancefloor was as fierce as ever. Could I really take pictures in this place? As I suspected, the blast from my first flash altered the atmosphere. I braved it to shoot a few more from different angles but things felt worse with each blinding shot.

The relief I felt when I heard the familiar opening bars of 'This Won't Change' by Lester Tipton. A fast, raw, jerky, but tender sound. I pushed the camera bag under a chair and got lost in the shadows until morning.

I very soon became a regular again, travelling to different venues around the country but I'd often wait till morning when the lights came on before taking any pictures. Mostly though I went to dance and enjoy the music with friends, leaving my camera at home."

Elaine Constantine 2023

Pictures were taken in varied venues including the Manchester's Ritz, London's 100 club and in a lad called Steve's kitchen, plus other places too numerous to remember.

Sound System Culture Jamaica & UK 1986-88 by Wayne Tippetts
Cat: 987233 Rel: 13 Feb 24

36-page staple bound book
Notes: "In 1986 I embarked on the first of many trips to Jamaica. The images published in this book form part of a wider collection of images taken of sound system culture both in Jamaica and in the UK over a 17-year period. Between 1993 and 2003 I lived and worked in Jamaica, teaching photography at Edna Manley College while continuing to work on a variety of photo projects and stories both in Jamaica and the UK, including my 'Dancehall' series.

It was at a 'yard' in the capital Kingston Jamaica on a hot and humid night, April 1986 that I took my initial photos with a Leica and a handheld lamp (no flash) It was here that I truly first encountered Jamaican sound system culture and the nascent dancehall scene. I was instantly struck by the sheer exuberance and intensity of the songs, mixed with electronic dancehall beats and bass rhythms. From the mid 1980s on Thursday night's deejays and singjays battled it out for supremacy, with fast-draw patios over pre-recorded 'riddims'. The address was 1 Robert Crescent, home to Jamaican singer producer, Lincoln Barrington "Sugar" Minott. Widely considered to be the godfather of dancehall. Minott's Black Roots record label and Youth Promotions sound system was established in the Maxfield Park area of Kingston in 1979 with a recording studio operated from a bedroom in the front the house.

My photographs have been exhibited in UK, Jamaica, New York, Australia and New Zealand, and a selection of my images are held in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC."

The Crosstown Rebels story is told in a new 240 page book; 20 years of madness, magic and music
Notes: ""20 years ago, I dreamed a dream of creating a family of like-minded, crazy individuals from all corners of the planet. That dream was Crosstown Rebels. Over these years, I have forged beautiful friendships, discovered very talented artists and tried my best to help, advise and support some of the most colourful characters in dance music. It's been 20 years of madness, magic and music. Now it's been distilled into our own book to mark this milestone. I'm honestly surprised at how much I remembered!" - Damian Lazarus

For 20 years Crosstown Rebels has forged a path as one of the world's leading electronic music labels.

Established in 2003, Damian Lazarus' label manifesto has not changed. Discovering and nurturing new talent has always been the beating heart of the label, with a mission to soundtrack the future of the dancefloor and beyond. Introducing the world to the likes of Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, Maceo Plex and Art Department was just the beginning. Today the roster is gloriously international, showcasing the truly global scene that Crosstown has shaped over the years.

Of course, there's the parties too. The early Slash & Burn and Rebel Rave parties paved the way for Damian to create two of the world's most cherished experiences, Get Lost and Day Zero, and in turn setting a benchmark for electronic music events worldwide.

Now the Crosstown Rebels story is told in a new 240 page book. 20 years of madness, magic and music. Starting right back before the beginning and taking us through to the present day, acclaimed electronic music writer Joe Muggs dives into the label's history, interviewing Damian at length and revealing Crosstown's story as never told before. The book brings together countless unseen photographs and artwork taken from the last two decades. It tells the story of how the dance underground battled and triumphed. This is a unique publication, not only for fans of Crosstown Rebels and Damian Lazarus, but also for anyone with an interest in independent label culture and the evolution of dance music over the last 20 years.

How To Ru(i)n A Record Label: The Story Of Lookout Records by Larry Livermore
Notes: In 1987, off-the-grid punk agitator Larry Livermore began documenting the burgeoning DIY East Bay punk rock scene with the newly founded Lookout Records. He had no idea this little label, first run out of his solar powered cabin in the Northern California mountains, then a cramped room in the backstreets of Berkeley, would rise to international prominence, introducing the world to the likes of Green Day, Operation Ivy and a host of other artists. "How To Ru(i)n A Record Label: The Story Of Lookout Records" documents the author's experiences from Gilman Street to Bialystok, Poland, as he built Lookout from the ground up, only to find himself losing control of the label a mere ten years later, and abruptly walking away from the multi-million dollar company when it was at its peak of success. Throughout that time, however, he was central to the influential scene that gave birth to Gilman Street, Maximumrocknroll and a new generation of independent music that has had an everlasting effect on both the underground and mainstream. In the process, he just might even have found himself.

Notes: If we are somewhat over-inundated with rock biographies right now, then you can trust The Red Krayola's Mayo Thompson to come up with something different. The second part of his 'After Math' series sees us catch up with a plot to smuggle a small erotic bronze out of Tirana and the subsequent plot twists and red herrings are as unexpected and bewildering as any The Red Krayloa recording.

Notes: Harley Flanagan provides a fascinating memoir: a homeless child prodigy and family friend of Andy Warhol and Allen Ginsberg, at a young age he became close to many stars of the early punk rock scene such as Joe Strummer of The Clash and was taught to play bass by members of the famed punk band Bad Brains. He went on to start the notorious hardcore band Cro-Mags. Harley was never shy: making friends with important figures like Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead, defending himself in street battles and, most recently, finding media play and court battles after former band members betrayed their one-time friend and bandmate.

Collection of drawings, paintings, graffiti, comics and band photos from Luca Abort
Notes: "Pezzi Di Vetro Schizzi Di Sangue" (translated: piece of glass, splatters of blood) is the definitive book on Luca Abort, singer of BLUE VOMIT, NERORGASMO, IFIX TCEN TCEN, collecting all his stunning drawings, paintings, graffiti, comics, band photos.. A maniacal collection of images, the result of a project developed over 10 years about one of the most nihilistic and emblematic characters of the Italian punk scene between the 1980s and 1990s, passed away too young following his omen "I'll exalt myself with the most sublime death".. A personality of great intelligence, surly and provocative, Luca has created an enormous amount of drawings, paintings, graffiti, tables, record covers, flyers and other graphic artworks. This book collects them meticulously: almost 300 full colored color pages disclosing a huge amount of never seen before material (taken from Luca's personal archives made available to his mother's courtesy) also including rare photos and detailed discographies of BLUE VOMIT, NERORGASMO and IFIX TCEN TCEN. This book is almost completely devoid of written parts except for a brief preface and afterword in Italian, it's all focused on the pictures, so even if you don't understand Italian you will be fully satisfied.

Lost In Room: Mark Perry Alternative TV & Related 1977 - 1981 by Richard Johnson
Cat: 980445 Rel: 19 Dec 23

Lost in Room is the first book to explore the early years of Mark Perry's having become one of the most interesting and honest voices to have arrived from the cultural shift of the late 1970s
Notes: "That's my argument against the way punks become so cabaret. It's almost patronising [when bands play all their hits]. Oh, we'd better play 'How Much Longer' because people want that. To me, that's just patronising to the audience. I'd like to feel, and I always have done, that an Alternative TV audience wants us to experiment or to try new things out through that sense of exploration, or that childlike sense of wonder about making music.

That's why I've always wanted to retain that. I haven't always got it right, but that continuing journey to explore new areas of expression has got value, and that's why I think it's worth proceeding in that way. I'm doing that with the new band. I'm trying to instil that with them. This is what ATV is about."

"People have suggested to me that touring with The Pop Group must have been so arty and that we must have all been talking about Kafka at night. Bollocks were we! We were out of our minds most nights on fucking booze!" "I was really full of myself. I thought back then that I've got something to say and must be listened to. You only need to hear some of my stuff to know I was like that at the time, like on 'Alternatives', when I was having a go at people and telling them what to do and all that. Looking back, it's a bit embarrassing, but at the time it was sort of vital. Some people liked that and liked joining in.

So, 'Fellow Sufferer' was part of that. I did feel that because I was saying stuff and was playing music [away from] that punk template I was putting my reputation on the line. You know, [my being the] Sniffin' Glue editor and all that. I was going into what I thought was new ground and, let's face it, a lot of people didn't like it, and because of the way I was that spurred me on to make it even more extreme.

So, when we got on to the Vibing Up the Senile Man material, I decided quite early on that we didn't want to have a drummer and wanted to get back to making a space by getting rid of all the rhythm. I just thought if we get rid of all the rhythm it'll be more experimental [because] we wouldn't be tied to a strict beat. That's why there are no drums, really, on the Vibing Up the Senile Man songs. I played drums on the second Peel session, because we'd got rid of Chris Bennett, though. We'd chucked him out the band."

Mark Perry is a familiar name from the early punk scene in London due to his having published Sniffin' Glue fanzine between July 1976 and August 1977. As he became increasingly disillusioned with punk, however, he at least still remained driven by its impetus and started his group, Alternative TV. With their first release, 'Love Lies Limp', issued as a 7" flexi single with Sniffin' Glue 12, itself the final edition of the fanzine, it was clear that Alternative TV were not going to readily sit comfortably alongside the countless hordes of identikit punk groups forming around the same time.

Sharper yet wrought with frustration, Mark Perry took the group through a more personal space that pre-empted what a short while later became known as post-punk. Whilst sometimes charged with the same energy and anger, the music was more opened out and embraced all manner of different and often disparate areas, from reggae to industrial, improvisation and even brazen pop. Offset by subject matter that likewise often smashed down those borders of expectation, Mark always took his music wherever he felt it should go.

Not given to compromise or always taking the easiest route, even when sometimes handed to him, his approach to songwriting or making records has rarely strayed from an artistic vision which sets him apart from his contemporaries. Lost in Room focusses on the first four years of his musical path, beginning with 'Love Lies Limp' and ending as the first version of the group collapsed soon after 1981's Strange Kicks album and Mark's joining The Reflections.

Along the way are tours with Chelsea, Here & Now and The Pop Group, a huge love of Frank Zappa, a meeting of minds with the late Genesis P-Orridge, the running of Step-Forward Records and working for Miles Copeland's Faulty Products network of labels, plenty of anecdotes about the world he was embroiled in, and the story behind the records themselves.

Broken into two main parts, one concerning the historical development of Alternative TV and Mark's occasional releases outside the group, and the other dedicated to the ideas that informed many of the songs themselves, this book is centred around a conversational approach to a series of weekly interviews conducted via Zoom with Mark between late 2021 and summer 2022.

Deliberately retaining the organic nature of the conversations, replete with tangents that sometimes refer to later work or creep elsewhere completely, Lost in Room is the first book to explore the early years of Mark Perry's having become one of the most interesting and honest voices to have arrived from the cultural shift of the late 1970s.

A Book Of Kito by Kito Jempere
Cat: 981442

Kito Jempere’s genre-unbound, faux-literary debut in publishing
Notes: A book as a milestone, here comes Kito Jempere's genre-unbound, faux-literary debut in publishing. Born after taking a glimpse of some neat word-and-image opus through the window of an art gallery in Istanbul, and thinking 'I want to do that', the seed for 'A Book of Kito' was sowed, and for good. The unique trajectory that's led Kirill Sergeev to this place and time, 38 happy solar rotations reading on the counter, was definitely one that deserved to be told, but the fun way. From his modest beginnings in his home-city of Saint Petersburg, onto becoming a relatively hush-hush driving force of the international house underground with releases for the likes of Jimpster's Freerange Records, Emotional Response, Hell Yeah, Let's Play House, DFA, Bordello a Parigi et al, through busting the frontiers of live music with the crazy circuses of SPDSC and Kito Jempere Band, there's been very few moments of quiet in Kito's gleefully bumpy yet ever soul-fulfilling journey. An oddball and thrillingly witty object spanning the many facets of his intimate self and artistic persona, the win-some/lose-some nature of a DJ's life, as well as the pressure and release coming with exposing yourself to the limelight, but also the joys of being dubbed by your peers and unexpected spits in the face, 'A Book of Kito' is a thoroughly honest portray of a man telling his realities, hopes and anxieties, that huge, infectious smile slapped across the face as an indivisible trademark. A loud-spoken piece of anti-egotistic confession delivered in his own words, friendly and dynamic as his character, with enough humility to cool off the infinity pool of highfalutin leeches that regularly floods that thing called, "The Scene", Kito's anti-memoir has us surfing the good waves and channeling the positive vibes, as it washes the pains and disillusions away in constantly joyful fashion. Stacking as much energy as possible from these countless stories and fun-riddled anecdotes about life and music, fueled by the figures that keep him - and us all - ticking - best half, proud son, loyal friends, Kito Jempere serves up a lighthearted delight of a volume, tender and piquant as it gets. Keeping it fast, so doubt doesn't catch up.

A Celebration of the glimpses of gold that characterised WU LYF's short reign - featuring new essays, original art, photography & lyrics
Notes: A Celebration of the glimpses of gold that characterised WU LYF's short reign - featuring new essays, original art, photography & lyrics.

Whilst preparing the 10th Anniversary Re-issue of the Singular WU LYF LP- "Go Tell Fire to the Mountain" a long forgotten hard drive was unearthed that held a pristine archive of the golden years of the LYF's creative output.

On it, there were many snapshots of early Live Performances, Scans of all the Collaged Art works and Paintings, numerous Beautiful Photos captured by Friends and Lovers and to our surprise a folder of live & improvised Demos for what could have been the 2nd WU LYF LP that tragically was never finished.

For those directly involved browsing over it provoked some giddy nostalgia for a well spent youth - a glorification of what was and some starry eyed speculation as to what could have been...

The conversation then arose that it would be a real shame to leave the work of WU LYF entirely overlooked in cultural history, lost to the sands of time, left as mere digital ash decaying in discarded digital urns.

So why not share it all?

Featuring text by and interviews with Joe, Tom, Ellery and Evans. Plus additional text by Warren (War God) Bramley, JD Beauvalet, Matt Wilkinson, Beatrice Miniconi, Mino Tristovskij & Sean Wood.

Kirk Brandon: Confessions Lyrics & Nostalgia by Iman Kakai-Lazell

The 5th book in a series of custom made, books by Persian artist, Iman Kakai-Lazell - featuring icons of Arts & Entertainment in a way never-before seen
Notes: This is the 5th in a series of custom made, books by Persian artist, Iman Kakai-Lazell - featuring icons of Arts & Entertainment in a way never-before seen.

Working closely with each artists, the books feature, collages, never seen before photos, manipulated with original lyrics & confessions.

Each release is extremely limited and will never be repressed.

From the author:

"In these series of confessions, lines and lyrics desires come through in a form of dreams, events and more. The individual is able to express themselves in a way they haven't been able to. And more importantly for me to add my interpretation to each piece. I hope you love reading these as much as I have creating them... No 4. I present... Kirk Brandon"

Kirk Brandon started his music career in 1978, in Clapham, London with the formation of punk group The Pack.

The Pack consisted of Brandon, Scottish-born drummer Rab Fae Beith, Simon and Jon Werner on guitars.

Brandon then formed post punk/new wave band Theatre of Hate in 1980 recruiting Stan Stammers on Bass, Nigel Preston on Drums & Billy Duffy on Guitar and John 'Boy' Lennard on sax. Theatre of Hate disbanded in 1983. Brandon and Stammers were then joined by Lascelles James on saxophone and Chris Bell on drums to form Spear of Destiny. The new band adopted a more melodic and less aggressive sound, distancing themselves from post-punk and moving a little more towards mainstream pop. While continuing to explore the political ideas that he wrote about in Theatre of Hate, Brandon's lyrics for Spear of Destiny dealt more frequently with the classic pop themes of love and romance.

In 2003, Brandon did a solo tour as support to The Alarm on their 'Poppyfields' tour.

In later years he performed in the punk supergroup Dead Men Walking, with an ever-changing line up which has featured - Dave Ruffy (The Ruts), Billy Duffy (The Cult), Mike Peters (The Alarm) Captin Sensible ( The Damned), Pete Whylie (Wah), Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols), Mick Jones & Topper Headon (The Clash) Duff McKagan (Guns & Runs) Lemmy (Motorhead), Mike Scott (The Waterboys), Ian McNabb (The Icicle Works) & Roddy Frame ( Aztec Camera), amongst many others.

Brandon has also reformed Spear Of Destiny in 2007 and 2008. Brandon continues to tour with both Spear of Destiny and Theatre of Hate, as well as a revamped Dead Men Walking, and solo acoustic shows.

With a foreword by Poet Laureate and Fall fan Simon Armitage and an interview with Eleni Poulou, as well as never-before-seen images from Cummins' archive, this is the ultimate visual companion to The Fall.

A Rough Trade Book of the Year

'No one has captured the look of alternative UK music over the past half a century more tellingly than Kevin Cummins.' - Simon Armitage

'Kevin Cummins is a true master in being able to capture the essence of music, the soul of the band. Whatever he does however he does it is a mystery to me but it's pure genius.' - Rankin

'Few photographers had such a close connection to The Fall as Manchester-based Kevin Cummins, and his new book, Telling Stories, is a rich visual history of one of the city's most beloved and enduring bands.' - Record Collector Magazine 'Kevin has the uncanny ability of capturing the inner mood of musicians. Be it the dynamics within a pensive Joy Division, or the sense surrounding the fledgeling Fall that something special was around the corner for us all. Kevin's book is nothing less than a remarkable document of a bewildering and defiant anti-fashion movement born in Prestwich, north Manchester in the grimy mid-70s.' - Marc Riley

'Capturing forty years of the band's career via his archive, the legendary photographer (whose recent book, Juvenes, documented the story of Joy Division) gives his take on the phenomenon of The Fall and the late, great Mark E. Smith.' - Vive le Rock

Aho Ssan debuts on Other People with second solo album and book 'Rhizomes' featuring Nicolas Jaar, Moor Mother, Angel Bat Dawid, clipping., Blackhaine and more.

Paris based composer Aho Ssan, the artist moniker of Niamke Desire, presents his new full-length 'Rhizomes' on the Other People label following his debut LP 'Simulacrum' (2020) and collaborative record 'Limen' (2022) with fellow musician KMRU.

'Rhizomes' draws inspiration from a concept coined and developed between Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guatarri. The idea of an ever evolving structural model, constantly in motion and spreading out in all directions at once. It has no beginning and no end, but always remains in a middle, through which it grows and overflows.

"The root thought is the one that kills everything around itself while the rhizome is the root that stretches out to meet other roots," Desire explains considering the works of French writer Edouard Glissant who addresses questions of identity, crossbreeding of cultures and its evolution.

Much like the name it borrows, Aho Ssan's 'Rhizomes' is a multimedia project that embarks on a myriad of disparate, unique musical and artistic partnerships. This piece adapts this concept to explore the influence of sound materials on creation, the appropriation of a sound object, and the collaborative nature of a composition that responds to modernity.

"Rhizome represents an underground stem system that fosters connections between various organisms and allows them to flourish collectively. It's an album that celebrates collaboration and brings together a diverse group of talented artists," Desire continues.

Aho Ssan collaborated with a comprehensive cast of artists to create a musical rhizome including Nyokabi Kariuki, Josefa Ntjam, Blackhaine, Nicolas Jaar, Resina, R?n C?p ?uoi, Richie Culver, clipping., Lafawndah, 9T Antiope, James Ginzburg, Exzald S, Valentina Magaletti, Moor Mother, Angel Bat Dawid and Mondkopf. Cooperation and community are at the root of this project and the lens through which all the compositions can be understood through.

Aho Ssan will present 'Rhizomes' AV show together with visual artist Sevi Iko Domochevsky at Berlin Atonal 2023. 'Rhizomes' received a Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica 2023 Digital Music

In conjunction with the album, 'Rhizomes' comes complete with a set of illustrations by Kim Grano in a book release. The drawings become a hybrid language, each an emotional response to the musical half. The book contains an extended version of the album with 3 additional songs and 2 longer versions of the album songs. It also includes a sample pack by Aho Ssan and a collection of solo tracks by Elliot Blaise, KMRU, Lamin Fofana, Brodinski & Se?bastien Forrester, Valence Drake, 9T Antiope, Exzald S and Valentina Magaletti. The extended version package is only accessible through the QR codes in the book.
