Digest
Review: Elusive North London producer Joe emerged last year with the incredible sounds of "Grimelight/Rut" on the famed Hessle Audio label, and now is ready to bring us his second 12" on Appleblim's Apple Pips imprint. Crackling into the audible range with delicately tapping breaks, bongo-thumping beats and soothing sonorous atmospherics, "Untitled" is a touching and melodic exploration into an inner musical consciousness. It's percussive and tribal, with distinct inklings of fellow Hesslers Ramadanman and Pangaea in the rumbling bass and stripped back grooves of the piece. "Digest", on the flipside, immediately snaps into action, with sizzling synths, woodblock beats and abrasive chords capturing the attention and imagination from the off. Strangely, subtly captivating, it's another finely crafted piece from a highly skilled producer. One thing's for sure- he's not your average Joe.

Untitled (Kerri Chandler's Bigga mix)
Review: It's safe to say that Paris based musician, DJ and producer Jerome Caron is something of an enigma. With only two original productions and a mere handful of remixes released over the past five or so years, he's not exactly prolific. But what Jerome might lack in quantity, he more than makes up for in quality which is why both "Moustache" and "Untitled" have become established classics with many of the top DJ's. For many DJ's (including Dave 'Solid Groove' Taylor, Alix Alvarez and Jimpster) "Untitled" is up there in their all time top 10 house tracks. An absolute stalwart in their DJ sets and something of a criminally underrated stone cold classic that so many missed out on when it originally appeared on small French label Project Recordings. In it's original form "Untitled" is simply one of those magic productions that sounds totally out there in a league of it's own, with beautiful Rhodes chords, hooky synth stab and the funkiest, most rolling groove you've ever heard. Freaky Detroit style keys and lush strings all help keep the interest but never detract from the stripped back drums and bass underpinning the whole thing. Such a strong track is not easy to improve with a remix. Kerri Chandler was a first choice, and of course, he totally kills it! Concentrating on reworking the Rhodes chords into an alternative pattern, the king of NY house has delivered an awesome classic sounding Chandleresque remix that's stronger than Jeff Capes on Angel Dust!

Review: In original cassette form, Untitled by Huerco S was one of those astounding early releases that really brought the Opal Tapes label to wider attention. The NWAQ gone grubby sonics of the three track, 40 minute release were subsequently one of the first few Opal Tapes releases to get a vinyl edition, courtesy of our friends Boomkat and their Boomkat Editions label. If you were one of those who passed over the initial pressing last year and have been filled with an unquenchable sense of regret ever since then good news! A second pressing from Boomkat is here and listening back makes us wish for some all new produce from the New York-based producer. C'mon Huerco!

Review: Responsible for the first Monad release of 2013, Lakker have now become a fully fledged member of the Stroboscopic Artefacts family with their three track Untitled EP. This is something only the label's known residents Dadub, Xhin, Kanding Ray and of course Lucy have provided. Opening the EP is "Harbour" with a synth line that sounds like something between a fog horn bellowing in a misty port and a suspense scene from a horror movie (or both), and it's simply cinematic. "eeAea" sees Lakker return to something shuffly, best heard on their Deathmask EP for Irish imprint Love Love, while "Valentina Lane" is playful in the way Aphex Twin can be. No doubt Stroboscopic Artefacts are happy with this one.

Review: With the anonymous Anom Vitruv's recent Demos EP for Going Good still on heavy rotation here at Juno HQ, the producer makes a swift return on the German ZCKR label. Deftly showcasing the producer's talents for immersive soundscapes and weighty techno of the dub-leaning variety, the "AI" track of this Untitled EP sees distorted vocals and claustrophobic atmospherics give way to weighty swung beats and sweeping synthetic vistas, something almost like Bee Mask collaborating with Andy Stott. On the flip, "BI" somehow combines the tones of '90s ambient with scorched industrial noise narrated by a sinister vocal. "BII" is an even more extreme trip through texture, where deathly drums and found sound stalk a desolate wasteland of analogue sound. Highly recommended to fans of Blackest Ever Black's output - this is some next level stuff from Anom Vitruv.

Review: Formally a long running Moscow club night that booked Kode9, Digital Mystikz, Loefah Pearson Sound, Untold, Bok Bok and more, Capital Bass expanded to incorporate a record label roughly a year ago and hasn't looked back since. Choosing to focus on local home grown talent, the fourth release from Capital Bass introduces the St Petersburg pairing Formally Unknown whose debut offering showcases their potential. The tough faced "Untitled" opens proceedings on a steadfastly bass-flecked techno tip - you could see Loefah dropping this mid set at a Swamp81 night - whilst "Tribalz" offers a demonstration of how well Formally Unknown can utilise space and features quite the weighty kick!

Tag Fur Tag (Traxx edit)
Review: One of the many highlights of Mannequin's release schedule last year was their LP-length trawl through the cassette archives of Musumeci, one of the "most rare and unknown Italian minimal synth bands" of the 1980s. Formed of music from the two rare cassette tapes that the Turin act self-released in the mid '80s, Schwarz Morgen / Zusammen was a constantly engaging document that aligned Musumeci in the canon of angry primitive electronics acts such as CH BB, DAF and Severed Heads. Emboldened by the reception to this archival collection, Mannequin have decided to dig into the Musumeci archives once again on the forthcoming Untitled 12? release that features previously unreleased material. Both "Untitled I" and "Untitled II" are live studio recordings the Italian group laid down in 1985, whilst excitingly there is a self-styled "ugly-tape Kode" edit from Nation boss Traxx of an unreleased live version of "Tag Fur Tag" that originates from the same session.

Review: The last "Untitled" Future Times white label release arrived in 2012, a record that we now know, thanks to the eagle-eyed searchers of Discogs, featured a Hunee edit of "Re-Mida" by Don Carlos. We don't know what kind of material features on this new "Untitled" release from the label, but the bumping hip house rhythm and vocal combo and lush '80s analogue bassline suggests some kind of vintage material has gone under the knife to create this track. Regardless, this one-sided 12" is another essential cut from the DC-based operation.

Review: The Untitled EP for Homepark continues the London-based duo's steady run of one EP per year since 2010. It's the first time Homepark have appeared on Courtesy Of Balance Recordings, sub-label to Chez Damier's Balance imprint. First up is the deep, skipping and resonator fuelled "Ratios", matched in fathoms by "Standing", a dubby and rhode-driven joyride. "Fly Away" sees Mr. Fingers' bassline inspirations take full effect next to lounge time piano playing, while "M&J's Dub" again traverses from deep house territory into a sphere of dubbier Sven Weisemann sounds.

Untitled (Hieroglyphic Being re-played)
Review: Supposedly a key component of Estonia's underground music scene two decades ago, Hypnosaurus were comprised of two members obsessed with Cabaret Voltaire and US electronic music, who made their live tape jams using a collection of decrepit hardware and Soviet synthesisers. Untitled sees Estonian label Porridge Bullet retrieve a track previously only available on a limited run of cassettes from 1991 and press it to vinyl; given the krautrock and cosmic jazz influences at play in the striking "Untitled", that the label have enlisted Hieroglyphic Being to "re-play" the original for the B-side is an inspired move, turning in a warped house version that's as stern as the original is delicate.

Why're You Talking About You??? (4:13)
Another Siniistra Century (3:02)
Psycht See (4:12)
Review: Maoupa Mazzocchetti has clearly made an impression on Mannequin Records; this Untitled 12" finds the Brussels-based newcomer a rare current artist on Alessandro Adriani's label amidst the array of killer archival releases. Mazzocchetti got his break through a couple of releases on Unknown Precept, and this 12" features three delightfully damaged box jams that suggest he's becoming increasingly seduced by the dark delights of the dancefloor. In amongst the mean-tempered drums and raucous synth lines you can hear some deadpan vocal acrobatics coming through the mix which can be compared to Beau Wanzer's recent output. B-side opener "Another Sinistra Century" is particularly deranged and the whole thing bodes well for a mooted album from Mazzocchetti due on Mannequin next year.

Drew Is A Dog Eater (4:38)
Seedless Grins (8:15)
Beaches Of Leeches (2:57)
Review: Given the DIY ethic at the heart of both Nation and LIES, its little surprise that Beau Wanzer, a close associate of both labels, has chosen to self-release much of his vast archive of material. Following a superb debut LP last year, four more cuts from the Wanzer studios are presented on this untitled 12". Overall it's a record that is quite typical of Wanzer's solo work, with vintage hardware and nightmarish textures combining to create a quartet of end-of-days jams. There's plenty of variety within the four tracks, though; contrast, for example, the industrial-influenced, off-key techno throb of "Beaches of Leeches", with the wonky experimental curiosity "Drew Is A Dogeater". Best of all, though, is opener "Beefhearts", a suitably distorted, gritty and aggressive foray into off-kilter electro territory.

Review: Oh boy, another fine episide of L.A. Club Resource has dropped on us! Since the first Delroy Edwards EP on the imprint, this has been one of our favourite labels over the past year. However, this is not simply due to its house and techno releases, but more for how Edwards himself has given such creative freedom to his brainchild. While many were expecting straight floor cuts, releases such as this latest Zipcode demonstrate that Edwards and his tight-knit group of artists mean to showcase their own passions and skills. Zipcode aka Vereker - one of our own personal legends - drops four segments of noise and stripped beats. All apart from "Track 4" - a cavernous broken techno loop - all the other three tracks are pure machine noise from the depths of the inferno. Imagine Kevin Drumm loaded up on cough medicine and you're kinda close. Big.

Review: Repitch Recordings call upon two of the safest names in underground club music to deliver a solid six-track EP of definitive techno. First up on the A-side are four gritty and unrelenting 909 jams from Sleeparchive, inclusive of two locked grooves, but it's "White Angel Breadline" that's most reminiscent Roger Semsroth's earlier, bleepy hits. Meanwhile Mike Parker sends the Italian crew one dirty modulation loop called "Flying Nerves" while the EP's highlight is a mind bending "Lustrum" - seriously serious techno

Review: Yes! Nation affiliate Beau Wanzer comes through with a self released collection of archival cuts drawn from his personal vat of recordings made between 2002-08 and it's basically 12 examples of how to rule. For the most part, Wanzer draws from a similar palette to the recent Power Outage 10" for Traxx's Nation, delivering short and sharp experiments in mangled hardware and dizzying vocals that have a clear nod to early wave and primitive electronics but still retain that distinct Beau Wanzer charm. Wedged in amongst them are a few cuts the more fearless selectors out there will totally love, such as "I Don't Even Want To" and "23132", whilst the fuzzy kosmiche of closing track "Headspace" is a true palate cleanser.

Beyond Control 2
Review: Originally recorded in 1983, O Yuki Conjugate's Untitled EP is a dream record for Emotional Rescue. It's startlingly ahead of its time, featuring stiff drum machine beats, strange sampling and fuzzy, lo-fi synth work, shot through with the wonk of post punk that makes so much early electronic music of the era so captivating. "Beyond Control" has an almost motorik feel to it, with plenty of liquid delay processing and woozy tones melting around the march of the beat. "Disco Song" channels the dubbed out spirit of The Pop Group and gives it a plastic organ makeover, while "Clattering Song" lives up to its name and falls apart in your ears. "Beyond Control 2" completes the package with a wild line in reverse effects by way of a thoroughly primitive remix.

Review: Glasgow's Ooft! continues the FOTO-X series on his label with a sure shot 12" that presents two tracks sure to nestle their way into all manner of on-point record bags for many moons to come. First up is iLO who plays the long game with a yearning and burning slice of deep house that starts out stripped and subtle before blossoming into a fully-fledged vocal delight. Ooft! takes care of the B-side with a boogie-tasting get down entitled "Howard's Way" which will get heads nodding and bodies popping to a bassline that calls to mind Evelyn King's much loved "I'm In Love" low end destroyer.

Review: Canadian label Silent Season continues its mission to marry modern electronic music processes with the ancient nature of the label's base on Vancouver Island, this time turning to Mosam Howieson to deliver a four track EP of ambient techno experimentation. The Melbourne-based artist has a unique approach that should appeal to lovers of heavyweight bass pressure and subtle, moody cinematics, not least on opening track "I". There's a submerged acid throb to "Ii", but only after time spent lingering in a beatless reverie. Loaded with surprises at every turn, this record has a lot of depth that should it rewarding faithful listeners for a long time to come.

Russian Hackers - "303"
Review: Smile & Wave appears from out of nowhere with two unknown names heading up the first release. There's no indication of who is behind A Houseband or Russian Hackers, but both of them have done a damn fine job of bringing two sure fire killers to wax. The first is "Another Love Another Happiness", which as the title candidly suggests is yet another version of the oft-sampled "Love & Happiness", this time framed in a bubbling, dubby deep house context for the mellow heads to soak up. By way of contrast Russian Hackers get busy with "303", bringing some forthright jack to the table.

Review: After 19 years in the game, techno veteran Jens "Lowtec" Kuhn is still going strong. While he's recently been in a nostalgic mood - as reissues of early material prove - Kuhn is still capable of producing fresh, high quality material. There's much to enjoy about this first EP for new Malmo label Blundar, from the loud tape hiss, spooky melodies and weirdo ambient dub intent of "Track 2", to the moody, early Autechre throb of Skam-ish closer "Track 4". Dancefloor-minded thrills come in the shape of hypnotic opener "Track 1" - all unsettling, one-note chords, restless rhythms and distant electronics - and the hard-to-pigeonhole madness of the schizophrenic "Track 3".
