Review: Limited edition gold vinyl repress of Leviticus' monumental track, 'Burial', remastered for 2023 and back on its original home Philly Blunt. This release resurrects the original mixes alongside some iconic remixes from the 90s, encapsulating a significant chapter in the jungle movement. A landmark release, not only signifiying a pivotal era in jungle but also marking the inaugural release on Philly Blunt, kicking things off as they were meant to go on. Crafted in Dillinja's home studio under the collaborative genius of Jumpin Jack Frost, in turn operating under the moniker Leviticus, the original mixes appear in full force here - 'Madamoselle' and 'Lovers Rock' - resonating with rare groove and reggae influences that each propel the track to Notting Hill Carnival fixture status, eventually catching the ear of Pete Tong who facilitated a mainstream release on FFRR the following year.

The Horn Track (Blade rework 2024)
The Horn Track (Micky Finn Foghorn mix 1992)
The Horn Track
Review: Strap yourselves in for the return of Missile Vintage with a fifth transmission and this one is a track from the boss himself. Missile Records founder Tim Taylor crafted this banger back in 1992 and released it on the legendary FFRR imprint. It soon made its mark on the rave scene of the time and has remained influential to generations of DJs, dancers and producers ever since. Now it comes back to vinyl in original form, as well as next to a huge Foghorn mix from Micky Finn and a more physical and breaks-lead remix from Blade. A great package that joins the dots between then and now.

Review: ScruScru is a name you might well recognise but it is fair to say you might not recognise his work on this first release from Talkbox. He shows a very different side off the back of plenty of top edits that bottle up plenty of disco and Bossanova vibes. Here he has teamed up with Russia's dubplate don BR Selecta for an EP full of energy and joy. 'YEAH YEAH' is happy-go-lucky garage with pitched-up vocals and lively drum, 'Get My Gruv' is a kinetic two-stepper and 'Cyberrave' is just that with its all-out synth madness and flurries of breaks, then 'Serious Talking' closes out on a darker jungle tip. A varied and vital 12' for sure.

Preserve The Rave (5:59)
The Man Of The Street (feat Mike Tansella Jr) (5:17)
Hasta La Vista, Baby (5:08)
Review: DJ Plant Texture aka Bari's Donato Basile makes a Return to Disorder with four blistering cuts of jungle, electro, techno and acid. He is a versatile producer who takes no prisoners and considers no sounds off-limits. This one kicks off with the brutalist beats and casuistic synths of 'The Other World' before funky, acid-laced techno bouncer 'Preserve The Rave' takes you to the next level. 'The Man Of The Street' (feat Mike Tansella Jr) is then a deeper, more cosmic cut with thinking synths but still plenty of powerful rhythms and last of all are the dark jungle breaks of 'Hasta La Vista, Baby.' These are highly charged and guaranteed dance floor destroyers from this ever-on-point wizard.

Hinam (6:30)
Review: Sindh combines old and new worlds on his latest mystic hymns, this time kicking off the A-Biotic label with his dark and alluring four-track EP 'Andaman'. He manages to fuse organic and synthetic materials here as he heads down a darkly introspective path where minimal and IDM, dub and techno all collide in mutant form. 'Jangil' is a real standout with its bubbling halftime rhythms and icy synths backed by distant angelic chorals. The bewitching sounds continue on 'Galathea' which rides back and forth on its heels as subtle sines, scurrying synths and menacing pads all interlock before 'Hinam' locks you in a dense synth stasis and loopy sense of lurching rhythm.

Review: Hats off for the cool cats! Tommy's CITH imprint whips up a hefty VA EP to kick off 2024 with and the vibes are set to max. Donnie Murdo makes sure of this with two cuts on the A-side: the sassy, soulful jungle flex 'Anonymous' and the ravier charms of 'Mice N Easy'. Review: DJ Fresh is a legend at this point. Whenever he drops new heat it is worth tuning in, especially when it's a 12" picture disc like this from Breakbeat Koas. The A-side is a collab with Buunshin. 'Dancing In the Dark' is a hardcore gem with pitched-up vocals and monstrous breaks over spin backs, raw bass and thrilling synth lacerations. Then comes an AMC Remix of DJ Fresh's 'Heavyweight' that is just that. It rides on silky breakbeats with a rising sense of tension that keeps you locked until the explosive bass and jump-up drum head to the level.

Review: Seminal sounds! It's time to rewind, once again, to this cult favourite from 92 - 'Dubplate'. Immortalised in remix form by Total Science some years later, here we find revivalist crew Kniteforce revisiting the entire original XLR8 EP. Four cuts, each one smouldering away at a different tempo with its own rules, 'Dubplate' takes the lead with its smorgasbord of samples of ideas before 'Most High' swings into the mix with soft skanking harmony, 'Bachelor Rock' gets busy on that woozy hardcore vibe and 'Oxford 0865' shuts down the EP with a much slower b-boy flavoured adieu. Get cracking.

Review: It was only a matter of time before Andrew Ferguson made his debut on 2 Bad Mice's Over/Shadow; his tenure in the game, his authenticity, his lack of compromise and his timelessness as an artist (both as Outrage and his more 140-oriented alias Nomine) is a perfect fit. Here are two examples; 'Goodbye' says hello with oceanic waves of disarming pads, bellowing subs and spacious breaks while 'In The Dark' brings a little more 1990 unity vibes thanks to the sensual vocal and subtle piano charm. Outrageously good.

Review: It's time to sweat it out once more with the latest from the label of that name absolutely going for the big time with some classic vocal stabs defining the rip-snorting opener. And that is the extended mix of Luude & Bru C's 'TMO (Turn Me On)' (feat Kevin Lyttle) which is a big drum & bass anthem with ragga vocals, unrelenting and steel plated drum funk and naughty bass. A slightly more sweet and soulful Borai & Denham Audio remix also features as do Luude & Mattafix's anthem and festival friendly jungle anthem 'Big City Life' and similarly epic and accessible 'Oh My' with Issey Cross and some blissed out keys from one of Moby's classics.

Review: The Craft Music label is back after a one year break with some fresh new cuts by resident Marco Lazovic. It's an EP inspired by the sound of the English club scene in the nineties and noughties, labels like Good Looking Records and artists such as Mike Millrain. Opener 'Losin Control' sure is a compelling mix of electro and breaks that soars on cosmic lines with euphoric vocals in the distance. 'Come To London' has a distinctly garage feel to it with its crisp broken beats and there is more high energy but melody-rich breakbeat action in 'Dark Gravity' while 'Space Jazzy' is s super sweet and deep jungle cruiser.

Review: It's the anthem that just won't quit. Having celebrated a decade of Gold Dust with a whole stack of remixes earlier this year - even though the tune is actually closer to 12 or 13 years old - the Bad Company founder-turned-popstar DJ Fresh now serves up this special gold vinyl edition for Record Store Day. Complete with the VIP and instrumental (which are still arguably the best versions out there) it's yet another way you can get blasted with one of the most iconic and euphoric hooks in modern drum & bass. Review: Wots My Code has been back on our shelves recently with some of his most seminal EPs getting reissued. His self-titled effort from 1992 came back in October, as did his All Seasons EP also on Kiteforce, both of which sounded as good as they did back when first crafted. Now his The New Dubplates EP drops on Just Another Label with 'Dubplate' kicking off as a remix by Bay B Kane that takes no prisoners. A Sikka remix then tweaks the energy level and on the flip is 'Pass Me A Dubplate (92-3)' a short but sweet closer.

Following 'Isometric Projection' and 'Cause & Effect', this EP once again reaches to the heavens for its essence and rolls out with shimmering, emotional charm and more than its fair share of heavy drum punches. The dreamy vocal calls and slamming breaks of 'Solyaris' and the tightly coiled spring groove of 'Oblivion' are both major highs on this trip.

There's space for meditation and cinematic tension, intriguing rhythms and plenty of pressure, which makes for a natural fit on a label like Samurai. Following last year's standout statement of intent, Confront The Serpent, Reeko returns with another formidable four-tracker loaded with psychedelic energy and heavyweight presence which offers a unique slant on this fertile zone of experimentation in the modern club landscape.

Review: Ilian Tape have been sympathetic to the sound of UK bass for some time now, but this new drop from Atrice leans even further into the pervading energy of dubstep as a source of club pressure. The Swiss duo first appeared on Ilian Tape with Q back in 2021, and they're sounding stronger than ever on this latest missive. If 'Multiplex' brings a cybernetic sheen to headsy 140, then 'Is It Warm' does similar work with techy d&b as the pair dice up breakbeats with precision and drape exquisite, shimmering pads over the ruffness. There's also space for crafty techno propulsion on 'Broke' and high-tempo trippiness on '83 Steps', making this a versatile, consistently brilliant release from a rising force in the scene.

Now under the crafty scalpel of Calibre, it's been subtly polished for the new year. Flip for a mechanical funk shake up of "Bun Ya" by Enei. The latest one this week is by the enigmatic Tamoshi. On the A side, we have the snarling minimalist roller called 'The System' which is quite reminiscent of early DJ Krust. Over on the flip, hear a convincingly old school junglist stepper, the fittingly titled 'Darkside' that goes all the way back to '95. One for the heads.

Review: Does drum and bass get any better than this? Two of the finest names in the genre club together for "Run Away", met in the middle by the man like Fox who puts his vocal stylings into the mix. Rolling out smooth, it's that lulling bassline and softly-spoken chorus that takes the edge off punchy drums and signature Intalex-style strings from the pad section. Fans have been waiting for a release on this for some time now - finally, it's ownable. Showing that they can still deliver tastier goods for the dancefloor, "Something Heavy" is a funk-fuelled hips-mover with Fox sending out his raggamuffin sounds over down and dirty bass. Review: A welcome and precious addition to the new 'Legends' series by V Recordings, 'Lionheart' is a tune made with friend and equal talent Berty B, that has existed since 1994 and is famous for its opening "ready? get set... music!" sample and vinyl-spinback oneshots. It's a nigh-timeless track that straddles raggatek, jump-up and jungle techno in almost a single breath. Much later came the VIP (variation in production), which added far glossier and more heavenly variations and a harder-edged sheen. Now it gets a reissue. Also here comes the brand new VIP of 'Love 4 You', which is a masterclass in airy, spacious intro-work, which segues into pure drum-driving as per the formula.

Not just a play on the experimental, boundary breaking electronic troupe of the 80s Art Of Noise but also the alias for Suburban Base's in-house designer who was responsible for countless artworks and album covers on the label throughout the 90s. As a musician he was less prolific but still knew exactly what buttons to press and when to press them with a handful of releases around 93-95 along with Mike 'E-Type' James. Now back together, they're exploring their old signature but with a contemporary twist. A full album is expected imminently but in the meantime here are four great examples of their timeless aesthetic and energy. Make some noise.

Alongside a great EP by Aussie Lou Karsh, we have this new one by Greek producer George Kontogiannidis aka Pera Sta Ori, who has racked up some impressive releases thus far on Musar, Brokntoys and Yellow Machines. As on previous works, the Sick Apian EP further explores Kontogiannidis' love of classic UK rave sounds. "Pacific Heights" is a jumble of minimal drum beats and futuristic synth smears that is atmospheric, while "Sakura" is more sparse and zoned out thanks to forlorn chords which speak of romantic pain. With its soft pianos and space for DRS to ruminate, it's another soulful smash that will stand the test of time. Review: London-based producer Otik releases his first album Cosmosis on Martyn's label 3024. The 11-track LP signifies the fourth album on the imprint across its ten-year tenure, showcasing a more introspective side to Otik's musical output. The album leans into delicate melodies, hazy atmospheres and lush analogue sounds, often evoking blissed-out feels and ripples of brilliant colour. Produced three years ago during lockdown, Cosmosis comes after a period of spiritual struggles, where Otik questioned his faith, religious beliefs, and the concepts of right and wrong. While the pandemic allowed ample time for reflection, Otik translated these thoughts into music from his Peckham-based studio, later finding a home on 3024's evolving discography. Keen to release a body of work that explores the journey of enlightenment and the struggles to get there, Otik drew inspiration from the luminary filmmaker Terrence Malick and how Malick portrayed ideas and philosophies in films like The Tree of Life and Voyage of Time. As a result, the record conveys a compelling narrative of rebirth, told through exquisite sound design and a push-pull pace that oscillates across the album.

The Dark Robotic Orchestra (5:44)
Your Story (6:13)
Dying Star (6:46)
Review: Deep atmospheric jungle is definitely having a moment right now with labels such as Omni Music and Codename RCRDS and Deep Jungle incubating some outstanding art, Kid Drama and DJ Trace's Nine Windows project setting benchmarks and, way ahead at the forefront, Soul Intent doing what he's been doing for the best part of 20 years. Atmospherics is the perfect example. His deepest and most cosmic of albums, the full trip is an epic sci-fi odyssey that sucks you in on an iMax level. These four cuts are some of the most clubbier-minded cuts, especially for the vinyl heads. From the hurricane breaks of the title track to the jazzy rolling drums of 'Dying Star', this is an exceptional snapshot of an incredible album.

Prussia Dub (6:44)
Review: Rua Sound deliver their first release of the year and it's an absolute feast for the senses. Earl Grey polishes off his percussion and hammers it into all kinds of wonderful, whimsical and often mystical shapes. From the driving hypnotic jazz force of opener 'Amygdala' to the final sorrowful strings and emotional weeps of the concluding 'Prussia Dub', Mr Tea has whipped up a beguiling storm. The fast-lane blurs and urgency of 'Atanas Aconite' and the dense, sweaty tribal drama of 'Death Rattle' are also exquisite.

Do 4 Love (4:09)
Long Way Up (4:51)
Enjoy The Silence (vocal version) (4:51)
Review: Based in The Netherlands, Fokuz Recordings has been a key drum & bass label since before the start of this current millennium. It does a wide range of styles from sold out in a flash r&b edits to rollers for the club. They have helped make the label head Focus a mainstay of the scene and now he's back with another top nugget on nice blue vinyl. 'Take Me As I Am' launches with hyper-speed breaks and ice-cold hi-hats before the lush and romantic 'Do 4 Love' soothes mind, body and soul. 'Long Way Up' is another one with a perfectly pitched r&b vocal sample and sleek beats before the pensive and late night, piano-laced cover of Depeche Mode that is 'Enjoy The Silence.'

Review: It's about time... Fresh off the heat of his Trevino album, Marcus returns to the D&B source with a full-fat foursome on his label's spotless Four:Fit series. Each cut a 24 carat diamond, shining in its own special way: "Mixed Bag" is a DRS-polished soulful addition to the ever-growing halftime annals, both "Step Forward" and "Stingray" are brittle two-step heads-down headbutts while "Jupiter" is an amen-rattled jungle shake-up. Timeless, deep and spacious; Marcus never fails.

The Arcane (7:44)
State Of Mind (6:21)
Force Majeure (7:42)
Threeform (6:31)
Review: Space jungle extraordinaire ASC is as prolific as they come, and this week he's back again with 'Sphere Of Influence', a synth-heavy present-day take on the dreamy origins of his chosen sound. Beginning with 'The Arcane', we're most struck with ASC's emphasis on atmospherics and synthwork - they come first compared to his relatively functional breakscience, which are like godlike apparatuses guiding us through heavily nuanced, heavenly vistas. That functionality goes out of the window with 'Threeform', though - an unusually sound-designed number which introduces suddenly-huge variation in the breaks, in what is said to be ¾ time.

Celestial Beings (7:20)
Averted Visions (6:54)
Aphelion's Edge (8:06)
Caladan Shores (6:33)
Review: In contrast to the deluge of raw d&b we've let through the floodgates this week, ASC's latest EP is a dreamy and twinkly scene-setter. Nodding to the presence of godlike, benevolent celestial beings behind the beats, tracks like 'Averted Visions' and 'Aphelion's Edge' seem to be getting at something like a divine ideal of space jungle. They play up the entrancing possibilities of the breakbeat (however lo-fi the original drum samples are) rather than their banger potential.

Review: Following last year's '3 Gold Chains', UK new-gen classicist Phineus II returns to Deep Jungle with this quartet of timeless jungle jams. As with his previous output (especially on Green Bay Wax), the feels and aesthetic is fully foundation and wholly authentic with an analogue warmth and rich distortion in all the right places. Flavours for everyone, as always... 'Peggy' and 'Knockout Noels' for the dreamers and jazz weavers, 'Boomerang Ragga' and 'Dog & Bone' for those 3AM face melters. Heavyweight.

Get Loaded (5:04)
Review: Topping up V Recordings' 'Legends' series - which has so far had the likes of Dillinja and Roni Size in tow - 'Cold Chillin' is their latest hark-back-to-the-oldskool, this time centring on a set of long-gestating and unheard tracks by another drum & bass legend, Lemon D. Unlike the focus on well-known versions espoused by the series prior, these two are brand new bits. 'Cold Chillin' and 'Get Loaded' pull no punches in conveying their twin worlds of utter mayhem, scouring the wastes for any leftover semblance of a breaks chop or dark vocal shout.

Review: Vibez '93 has established itself as an essential destination for anyone interested in modern jungle iterations, not least the deeper end of the spectrum where ambient atmospherics meet with sharply-sliced breakbeats. Just check this new 12" on the label, credited to Vibez '93 itself and diving into some pitch-perfect amen juggling dreamscapes across four tracks. The pads are richly melodious, the beats rolling, the subs massive - sure, you might well hear the sound Bukem and co. pioneered back in the 90s on the likes of 'Affluence', but who could ever tire of that immaculate sound when it's done so right?
