Review: Nino delivers his first well-deserved solo EP on Batti Batti. Originally from Bosnia, but based in Brussels (Belgium), Nino's tracks have always been a perfect representation of a purely deep underground sound. Starting off with a soothing piece of ambience to set the mood , Odysseia EP is aimed for club use and hence depicts Nino's evolving style yet maintaining his secretive and atmospheric element as a common factor.

Review: Having regularly appeared on Junk Yard Connections and Banoffee Pies over the years, Adam Stromstedt has plenty going on, but he's also got the time and space for his own Lyssna label, and he returns with his first solo EP on the label. It's an accomplished record, mining the vibe of ambient techno and channeling it into contemporary production with soul-stirring results. "TST142" is a mellow groover with a trancey undercurrent, while "Reptile Boogie" swerves into blissed out electro for lazy days. "Green Room Therapy" places plaintive keys at the front of the mix and channels a little of Floating Points' magic, and then "Split Tongue" offers up the most overtly club-minded jam on the 12".
Review: Revered UK producer Laurence Blake has unveiled his new alias Citizenn, a nod to his maturing sound and harder-edge approach to production. Along with this new name, comes a forthcoming release on 2020Vision, 'BE'.
BE features the vocals of former Azari and III member SYF, and an exclusive remix from Hercules & Love Affair. The original mix of BE comes through with Citizenn's much loved retro-futuristic sound that's overlaid with SYF's spell binding vocals. Hercules & Love Affair's remix follows, and maintains the darkness of the original before taking a playhouse-style approach that's riddled with wonky, cosmic hues. Rounding off the EP is Citizenn's Warehouse Dub Remix - a tough, and atmospheric techno edit, forged in the depths of the world's most renowned techno haunts including Fabric, Panorama Bar and Ibiza's DC10 - and a firm influence on Citizenn's musical direction. A further remix from Forrest and 2020Vision's very own Ralph Lawson will also feature on the digital release.
"BE was put together over a number of months during a hectic touring schedule, Cedric (SYF) and I were messing around with some sounds and after a few hours we had the makings of the track. I wanted to do something a bit more emotive something that could be listened to at home and in the club. Andy (Hercules & Love Affair) coming on board for the remix was like a dream come true for me. I remember seeing them on the first UK tour and have been a fan ever since. Hope you enjoy this package as much as I enjoyed putting it together" says Citizenn.
Citizenn is an artist with many strings to his bow. Having already made massive impact with slew of releases on discerning labels including Madtech and Love Fever Records, and subsequently named DJ Mag's 'Best Breakthrough Artist' of 2013, BE takes Citizenn into 2015 with his strongest ammunition yet.
Review: Following initial appearances on Bahnsteig 23, Jonny 5 returns on the Pleasure Wave label with more of that well-travelled, groovesome voodoo for all manner of sonic wayfarers. "Apocalypse" in particular is a stunning piece of tom-powered menace, but it's quickly offset by the bubbling cosmic delights of "Electronix". "Firedance" on the B-side channels some righteous 80s industrial and synth pop tropes to create it's own kind of drama, and then "Stardriver" finishes the EP off with some pulsing, noirish wave synths and gaseous atmospherics. With the styles shifting from track to track, Jonny 5 has once again done a sterling job of keeping his options open and keeping us locked expectantly into his delirious sound.
Review: The Synthetic Gold story continues to unfold in the most curious nooks and crannies of the minimal techno scene, as this third volume welcomes in tracks selected by Anestie Gomez. Khan is in a looped up, insistent cycle loaded with alien synth tones and a focused rhythmic hiccup of a beat, truly aiming for the psych-out end of the night. Eloi Brunelle makes things a touch funkier on "Neneh", deploying choice splashes of dubbed out colour in between the sharp strut of the drums. Andres Garcia then spreads himself across the B-side with the loping funk of "Invisivel", working all manner of freaky sounds around the scuffed sway of the beats.
Review: Slum Science's Hudd Traxx is a label that just won't quit when it comes to proper, head-tripping house music for those who like their grooves serious. That makes Chris Carrier a natural participant, and the unstoppable Frenchman steps up here with a record that proves both his and the label's long-lasting appeal. "Cycle Psycho" is a simmering tech house belter with the requisite amount of funk rubbed into its limbs, while "Dimension 5" switches stance for a nagging acid workout. On the flip "Smoke And Flesh" brings a tougher thrust to the drums and then "Flying Sausage" cools the EP down with a simply fantastic deep house bump to get heads nodding all over the butchers shop.
Review: Opening their doors every Saturday for mind-altering shock treatment, Power Station has been giving their raging punters a potent dose of megawatt reality. Their curatorial expertise has established an institution that will now extend the mythical energy generated with a record label in the form of annual limited 12"/digital compilations, grouping tracks that have already become the club's signature tunes. Resident, booker and co-founder Kris Baha finds himself on both sides of the inaugural disc, with the ball of confusion solo production 'Something Something, and again as Heavy Concern in collaboration with Otologic's Nick Murray, a name synonymous with the Melbourne club circuit being one quarter of the Animals Dancing massive. Young gun Disrute captures the optimum warm up set with the shape shifting slow burner 'Ka-Bu' while scene veteran and Haul Music boss Mike Callander discovers a new lab mutation of sci-fi soundtrack, damaged funk and cerebral house.

""Wild Metals"" sounds like ferns and orchids infiltrating a tableaux of black plastic electronics, the breed of black plastic that Russo and Wyatt both found sinisterly inserted into the grid of their childhood. It provided the skin for some of their favorite toys, and its general resonance was aligned with the fast cars, women, and architecture that dominated their imaginations.
Review: Farbwechsel is proud to present James Booth's vinyl debut, a six-tracker of driving house and techno pieces. Tell Me Lies follows a superb full-length album released on the excellent 100% Silk in 2013 and continues on the path to establish James Booth's own sound. His voice is characterized by an unbelievable precision and sensuality that defines his finely sculpted songs down to the last filter opening. It is this razor sharp focus that fills the EP's minimalist approach with tremendous weight and power. At the same time, this purity also renders the songs to become multifunctional entities capable of lighting up dancefloors while also perfect for the headphone listener.
Review: Horton Jupiter has been skirting around various cosmically-inclined outfits for many years now, but this release marks his first outright solo venture, and where better for it to blast off from than the celestial circus sideshow of Bahnsteig 23? The record launches in a fit of kosmische bravado, all nagging arpeggios, warbling leads, sustained guitars and a healthy dose of drama. "Eclectic Day" is certainly a fitting title. "Smokin' The Roach" is an equally bombastic affair, although with a chirpier disposition and some Italian-sounding vocals, and then "The Box" finishes the EP off with a grungy trip through bongo beatdowns and fuzz guitar for those who like their psych music with a vintage twist.
Review: Is It Balearic bring the heat with a stunning release from Sorcerer. The First track is Zulu Honda. Skipping thick drums and a bouncing bass overlaid with nu med guitars and beautiful synth lines. This track is made for pool parties and lofts. The second track is Afro Vibes a more atmospheric percussive groove. Maribas throbbing bassline and slightly melancholic guitars eventually make way for a subtle acid accent before returning to the groove.. Review: Lost In Time has laid down some killer 12"s to date from the likes of Ralph Lawson and Tuccillo, and now they welcome London-based scene staple Alex Arnout to the label with an on-point EP of explorative house music variations. "No Borders" features long time US house veteran Jovonn, and the pair whip up a tracky tech house roller with serious percussive pressure and a subtle lick of dub in the mix. "Downtown 500" is a rough and tough, bashy house jam with a fresh drum palette, and by contrast "Riddim" brings a straight up deep house vibe with classic organ licks aplenty, that almost sound like they should be the handiwork of Jovonn as well. "Jam The Dance" finishes the EP off with a twitchy house cut peppered with vocal slices.
Review: REPRESS: The second release from the Hlanganani label lives up to it's MO to provide a platform for talented producers from South Africa to shine, focusing here on Deep Sixty, aka young and fast-rising producer Johannesburg producer Thabiso Mamogwa. Back in 2010, the producer made it to London to take part in the Red Bull Music Academy, which is when the HLANG team first heard the tracks that make up the Mme Hayo EP whilst some studio time on the same trip with Todd 'Soundmurderer' Osborn resulted in the "Thursday Nights" track which Mamogwa previously self-released. In addition to Deep Sixty's own 'Deep Terror' mix of "Mme Hayo", the label have coaxed some fine remixes out of Esa and William Kouam Djoko.
Review: Jaunt Records' 10 year celebrations are spanning a series of 12"s that feature a broad spectrum of artists searching for the ultimate deep techno fix. The four contenders that occupy this Sea release all have their own agenda, but they sit together perfectly. Hiver weaves illustrious pads in between nimble electro drums and bubbling acid bass, while Artefakt creates eerie, fractured acid meanderings to send a shiver down your spine. Hinode does some deft break choppage to create a dreamy trip for the up all night crew, and then Region rolls the record out on an emotive tip while keeping the rhythm section pumped up for the floor.
Review: Valcrond Video presents the next work by sound and image artist Luke Wyatt, Songs From Bad Kid School.
On a high desert plain, inside a cinder block compound, a prank squad is incarcerated. Between fiddling with ninja stars and leafing through back issues of Fangoria, they find time to scrape out the soundtrack of their escape.
On the first track, heatsick guitars and steel wool beats suggest a landscape strewn with abandoned car carcasses, old Camaros left for dead in the sun, used for shotgun practice.
The B-side leads off with the beat-less, articulated sprawl of "Saline Flats". Here is the story of a desert search for water: figures warping mirage-like on the horizon as they make a confused journey over dunes, ending with a cathartic drone that suggests the mirages resolving into a real oasis. Though it is just as likely that the bad kids have expired from thirst, and ascended to the sublime.
Review: Newcastle-based producer Traela makes his first appearance on wax with this on-point work out for Hhatri, a London based label who have previously been happily working with the likes of Soichi Terada. There is definitely a sense of feel-good optimism and kinked drum programming hovering over this EP, especially on "Hanging Over A River". "You Know I Can Hide" also stands out with its strafing bass lick and space-scraping synth rolls, but the script gets flipped for EP closer "Uyokuthola" as tribal percussion meets with an ambient atmosphere for a most engrossing end result.

Review: The next release on Brazil's ever-promising disco steamer Gop Tun comes from Renato Cohen. Cohen has been an infrequent mainstay of Brazilian dance music for a long time now, most recently appearing on Kling Klong, Tronic and 100% Pure. His releases may not come around every day, but he makes them count when they do. "Dynadisco" is a spaced out slow burner with a looped up groove and simmering pads building towards a powerful, funk-fuelled bass drop. "Party Jam" takes a lighter approach, keeping the samples sprightly and even sprinkling a little acid magic into the tune. It gives Whatever/Whatever plenty to be working on their remix, which spreads across the B side in a fit of electro-disco finery.
Review: Alex Font's Acme sublabel Third Stream seeks to move away from hype and social media nonsense to deliver a truly underground offering for the switched on diggers, and that's just what you get with this second installment on the fledgling label. "Paraiso Artificial" is a supremely detailed, psychoactive bug-out of a minimal house track. Around the steady, slender beat there's an immersive world of rippling textures and nagging tones that delight the mind, perfect for the dancefloor of any long-rolling underground party. "Els Peluts" is a more functional track that places the emphasis on the beat, ably slotting itself into the mix with any switched on reductionist DJ.

Review: Finale Sessions founder Michael Zucker steps into the limelight with his first full EP for the label in the five years it has been running. Zucker has of course featured on a handful of split releases from Finale but he doesn't waste any of the space afforded here with a quartet of superb and varied productions. Leading the way, techno track "His Spirit" bristles with life and percussive energy whilst "Inner City Peace" will likely raise some interested eyebrows in West London thanks to its killer broken beat programming. Face down, Zucker dips into his personal archives for an unreleased and rather crisp remix of Introspective and Jenifa Mayanja hookup "When The Rain Comes Down" whilst the wonderfully named "Spiritual Graffiti" ends the release on a high note.

Review: Contort Yourself reaches its sixth installment with yet another era spanning gathering of post-punk and industrial oddities for the most deviant of dancefloors to digest. In the contemporary corner we have Penelope's Fiance, a promising industrial artist from Greece. Meanwhile on the B-side, Nigel Ayers as Nocturnal Emissions takes us back to 1983 with the utterly chilling "Demon Circuits Bloodbath" and "Even The Good Times Are Bad". L.I.E.S boss Ron Morelli steps up as U202 to remix "Even The Good Times Are Bad" as a death march of malevolent percussion.
Review: The vibe stays low down and nasty as Unknown To The Unknown sublabel House Crime rolls into its fourth release. Whoever DJ Club 1235 is, they known how to make a no-nonsense hardware house jam, and "Constant" that leads this record is just that. Straight up gnarly bleeps over a basic stomping beat - sometimes that's all that you need to make a club wrecker. "Trust" is also a particular treat with its slightly more developed lead line and urgent drums, but don't overlook the shorter interlude tracks that make this an EP with many different shades of jack to it.
Review: Minuendo calls upon Vincent Inc and Danijel Kevic to kick off their latest single, and they do so in fine style with the luxurious sweeping chords of "Space". Twinkling pianos, speech samples and a carefully measured set of deep house drums make this the consummate slice of pool-side dance music for those who can still find some sun at this time of year. Lola Allen steps up to the B side with something a little more sassy in the shape of "Afrofusion Jazz". As the title might suggest, there's a mixture of influences tumbling into this track, most notably with some wildly filtered jazz organ and funk licks stewing in the pot, and just when you think it's going to break it swerves off into submerged Moodymann territory. This is unpredictable house music at its finest.
Review: Chapter II of the The Untold Stories, begins with The Beat Circle, a new project of Denis Kaznacheev and Ol, an epic work of attitude, an anthem for a new beat generation, filling the whole Aside with groovy sliding bases, crisp clean cut claps, eccentric electric interactions, rich moments of imagination: decaying tones come as if some great engine then arrives to take the dancers further on their journey. B1 by Cleymoore & Marx a much deeper darker sounding track, again reminiscent of railroads, a great unstoppable motion, this time through a dense dub sounding atmosphere, a slow strong swing, grooves and rattles with a great momentum. The second record begins with another new collaboration coming out of the UNTLD project this time Laurine Frost with Denis Kaznacheev, together to be known as Syud, another extended work, rich in plot, mysterious tones lay constant behind a highly charged percussive performance, to and from moments of great serene beauty. The Dside begins with a Sobamonk track of strong rolling bases, warm and light tones, and intricately arranged percussion. Finally the Chapter comes to an end with a work by Ztrl in which we are lead by a dark and shifting force in a track of similarly shifty character.
Review: After a pair of superb 12"s from Duckett, Untilmyheartstops turn their attentions to across the Atlantic with the label debut of Zachary Lubin. Fans of the Kimochi label will recognise Lubin from the two wonderful 12"s he's committed to the cause over the past three years, and this four-track Future Laboratories record is a fine addition to his small discography. "Flooring Operations" opens proceedings on a dizzying techno tip, a kaleidoscope of sound billowing up around the taut bass drums, whilst "Mediation Garden" will please those who like some sonic grit in the mix. By contrast, the excellently titled "Ambivalent Robot" veers off into insouciant, glistening techno and is quite life-affirming. "Chloroform" rounds out the 12" on a similarly warm tip.

Review: Blast away those gloomy clouds with this wonderful set from the Street Edits clan. Having previously been spotted on Lumberjacks In Hell with Rahaan, it's evident that Sean Sounds knows exactly what he's doing when giving classic funk and disco a tasteful re-rub. "Disco Child" on the B-side is likely the big party starter, but there's grade A soul to be soaked up elsewhere too. "Rock Your Bones" is an especially sunny jam with African flair in its bones, while record closer "Get Up & Party" has a classic 70s Motown feel to it. In the face of overly slick re-edits this is a release with a welcome grittiness to it.
Review: Having shot into the limelight in 2012 with a 12" on Hessle Audio followed up by an outing on Liberation Technologies, Bandshell has since been on covert operations largely centred around releasing his music himself via Bandcamp. Now he's extended that practice into the B.S.Hell label, providing a physical presence to his wayward experimentation on the fringes of bass music. It's a sound that naturally aligns with the likes of Batu and Laksa, but also defiantly makes its own statement as well. With five tracks of distinctive drum science and textural voodoo to indulge in, this is a welcome return to wax for a thrilling, self-motivated producer.
Review: For Those That Knoe is proud to present some of the freshest and timeless sounds the UK has to offer from Numonika, sounding as good now as they would have done when recorded ten years ago. Three tracks from the original demo CD have been selected, compiled, re-mastered and pressed by For Those That Knoe onto a special 12" for collectors and club DJs alike.
In true Knoe fashion, release 4/1 is a compilation of tracks unearthed from a CD squirrelled away for a decade in a dusty loft. The CD in question was loaded with unreleased and untitled material from the owners of and producers for two of the UK's rarest and sought after tech house labels rinsed by DJs such as Craig Richards in the late 90s.
Review: Emergent duo Broken Arrows were previously spotted lurking around Giallo Disco back in 2015, so you should have some idea of the kind of lurid late night machine sleaze they like to get their hands dirty with. They've now slid over to the sympathetic but marginally more techno-minded Vivod imprint with a new clutch of deviant heaters for those adventurous dancefloor spaces where B-movie sounds reign supreme. "Female Predator" is a tough EBM-tinted workout with plenty of jack in its stack, while "Fear Eats The Soul" takes a more synth-wave approach with some speech samples thrown in for good measure. "Edge Of Darkness" is a more tense affair that pings arpeggios around a minor key refrain, and then "Basic Structure" whips out the hardest track on the record, a lithe industrial stomper laden with rhythmic noise and a mean synth bassline that will hit your solar plexus like a battering ram.
Review: Having built its name on various artist releases featuring old and new artists, Contort Yourself is branching out with a new series that focuses on one contemporary act per release. In this instance it's Coletivo Vandalismo getting some much-deserved attention. The Portuguese industrial punk outfit have a visceral sound that favours noise and distortion, but most importantly they know how to wield these sonic tools for maximum impact. The snarl of the synths and the crunch of the drums on "Hostages Of Society" could easily be too much in the wrong hands, but here the errant tones find their own space in the mix, making the impact of the track all the more on-point.
Review: Italian duo Concret are the latest signings to Wonder Stories, following up previous releases for Toy Tonics and others to make their debut appearance on vinyl. The crisply produced, modern originals sit somewhere in between disco-infused house music and bombastic electronica in the Moderat vein, while the remixes throw a few more stylistic twists into the mix. Rodion brings a bold, bleepy analogue vibe to his version of "Ritorno", while Timothy Heretic Clerkin gets a little acidic in his revision of "Andata", rounding out a strong EP of maximal dance music for the modern age.
Review: Rough House Rosie regular, HVL presents his alter ego - Kiyadama. The 10th release of the label coincides with its 3 year anniversary. The A side of the Cosmic Hum EP starts with two pieces of mesmerizing acid tracks and finishes with a smooth analog ambience. The B side offers even stronger acid cut 'Machine Terror' and 'There Will Be No Salvation', separated by a refreshing juke track - 'Slammbeat'.
