Notes: Another update for WMD's clever dual VCA, this time a little bigger to give more control. Digital control of CV and attenuation gives lots of creative options. Third time's a charm.

Supplier's Notes:
WMD have done several designs of this circuit over the years, the first one had no knobs, the second was too small, the MKIII is finally how this circuit should be packaged. This module does some really cool stuff and is super useful in any system.

The Digital VCA lets signal through like a normal VCA, but the CV and attenuation level is controlled digitally. This lets us do things like wait until there is a zero crossing to change the amplitude, resulting in clickless amplitude changes.

The Trigger mode causes the VCA to only update when a trigger is received. The addition of a noise circuit for each side let us do a very quick and easy sample and hold that never droops. With no input, 5V is normaled to the attenuator, so you get a 0-5V sample and hold. In Bipolar mode, you can get -5 to +5V.

Both sides have bipolar VCA mode (polarizer), which lets them invert the signal when negative CV comes in. Also known as ring modulation. With the zero crossing detector, this can produce some super wild wave shapes.

MIX7 gives ability to sweeten your mix with more headroom using the power of low noise analogue summing. The Z2040 is TipTop's redesign of the most famous analogue filter from the polysynths of the 80's and features Tiptop Audio's signature lush, big, and creamy sound. Its frequency sweeps make thick bass lines and leads with great dynamics. When modulated with audio frequencies through its various inputs, the Z2040 gets quite colourful and is capable of creating many new sounds and textures as the forces of the incoming waves and their harmonics blend through the filter's non-linear circuit. When set with Resonance feedback fully up, the Z2040 transforms into a pure sine-core VC-Oscillator, great for making snappy percussive elements and whistling sounds.

A look under the hood will find that the heart of the Z2040 is a discrete design 4-pole low pass filter with a core similar to that of the SSM2040 filter chip, used in the 80's Prophet 5 Rev 2 synthesizer, and its brother the SSM2044, used in the famous early EMU samplers and PPG synthesizers of the 80's. Both filters are considered by many to be, "the best sounding filter ever".

The Z2040's four modulation inputs are built to handle CV and audio signals, enabling deep modulation of the filter core and passing signals. A VC resonance input is provided to modulate and even clip the sine wave produced by the filter feedback loop. Notes: The OpticTone is a combination of a 12dB multi-mode Vactrol Filter and a Vactrol Voltage Controlled Amplifier.

It is a completely original circuit inspired by the singular nature of Vactrols and their fluid and natural character.

The Filter section provides the three fundamental filter types: Lowpass, Bandpass and Highpass.

A Resonance knob with voltage control input is available for improved modulation flexibility. The feedback knob interacts with the Resonance path, tempering it from creamy resonance to wacky self-oscillation.

Filter and VCA run in parallel, both are controlled by the Freq/Amp knob and it's associated voltage-control input. The combination of both signals can be crossfaded with a dedicated knob.

The Freq/Amp is also controlled with direct touch control on the panel via the 3 lines below the knob.

The filter frequency control can be inverted by the Inv Freq switch, providing the possibility to change the filter direction. This feature allows the filter to "close" when the VCA is "opening" or the other way around.

The Ping input allows to generate the well known vactrol filter percussive sounds if a gate or trigger signal is provided. The Ping frequency if controlled by the Freq/Amp knob, ranging from low kicks drums to high pitch bongos.

There is also a Drive knob to take care of your saturation needs. The Overdrive range is wide, from soft textural clipping to heavy distortion.

Notes: Designed with versatility in mind, MapVolt is a dual-channel Universal Voltage Processor built for flexibility in handling audio and CV signals.

With only 6hp, Mapvolt is a multipurpose tool for voltage-controlled scaling, inverting, offsetting, subtracting, and mixing functions.

Each channel of MapVolt can operate in either Polarizer or Attenuator mode, allowing manual control via knobs or CV signals. In Polarizer mode, it functions as a Voltage Controlled Attenuator-Inverter, granting control over signal level and polarity. Additionally, it can be used as a Four-Quadrant Multiplier or Ring Modulator for audio signals, with the processor input serving as the carrier signal and the polarizer's CV input acting as the modulator.

In Attenuator mode, MapVolt operates as a VCA, providing control over signal levels. Its VCA CV input range of +5/-5 makes it well-suited for amplitude modulation (AM) with other +/-5V waveforms.

MapVolt is equipped with dedicated Voltage Offset knobs for each channel, which can be controlled via CV. If no input is patched into the Processor input channel, the Voltage Offset knobs can be used as Offset Generators.

Notes: SkipLog, a probability processor with sequence capturing and looping features, along a range of other versatile functions waiting to be explored.

SkipLog is a 3-channel rhythmic probability processor designed for inventive rhythmic exploration in modular setups. Introduce unpredictable rhythmic possibilitis to your creative flow.
SkipLog's basic operation is simple: when a trigger or gate is received at one of its three channels' inputs, the same channel’s Probability knob allows you to control the likelihood of these triggers or gates reaching the output. This inputs are internally connected .

SkipLog continuously captures the binary outcomes of its use, storing them for potential sequences. Activate the Loop function to break from pattern creation and loop the recorded sequences. Individual Loop Length knobs for each channel allow adjustment of the loop sizefrom 1 to 16 or 32 steps (as selected on the back), providing evolving rhythmic patterns.

To fine-tune your arrangement, SkipLog introduces functions like Mute for real-time channel silencing, Inv for signal inversion, and Choke for establishing channel priorities. Lastly, the G/T (Gate/Trigger) Mode enables users to specify whether the channel output is a gate or a trigger.

The module offers three CV inputs for each of the both units; the first unit has an additional fourth input where the CV is subtracted - meaning "transposition downwards".

The ADSR module offers the classic four-stage envelope (Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release) that is not only loopable (patch the end output into gate input) but also accepts CV control over each of the stages! For the time values (A, D, R) the value set by the knob can be increased to five times the duration by the corresponding CV value. For the Sustain value the knob and CV value are simply added.

Notes: The CVSHIFTER module is the AE version of the well-known analogue shift register modules that are around in the modular world since a long time. It works like this: The CV input is sampled with each trigger input signal and this CV is sent to the CV 1 output; at the same time, all CV outputs 1-4 are shifted by one.

Compared to the "classic" circuits, this module is digital based and therefore doesn't suffer from drift as some analogue ASRs and S&Hs do. The result is, that you can e.g. control the pitch of up to four oscillators which is a first step into polyphony.

The CVSHIFTER module offers three modes:

Classic: Each trigger shifts the CV outs by one position, the new CV goes to output CV 1
Cycle: Each trigger sends the CV to the next output channel, restarting at out 1; additionally a gate signal at the according output.
Random: The CVs are sent in random order to one of the four outputs, plus a gate at the according output.

Notes: The DIODEFILTER is an adaption of the well-known diode ladder filter that became most popular by Roland's TB-303 bassline. And here it is for the AE modular!

Notes: DRONX is a special mixer designed especially for the DRONE38 module; if has 6 input channels (so you can connect two DRONE38 modules) and offers some sound processing capabilities: A tone control with bass and treble control, a distortion, and finally a dual delay with different algorithms. Two insert points allow to add up to two more audio effects to the internal signal chain. Together with the DRONE38 module(s) you get a quite nice drone synth for dense, dark soundscapes.

Of course, it can be used with any other sound sources!

Notes: The module was named Kuzmin Filter in the past as a tribute to the developer of the Polivoks, Vladimir Kuzmin. For certain reasons, the module will now be called GRUNGE Filter (due to the sound), with the circuitry remaining unchanged.

The Polivoks was a Russian synth that was produced between 1982 and 1990.This module is the AE version of the filter that gave the Polivoks a unique, rough sound.

Beyond the basic design, this filter offers some additional features:

Two different resonance characteristics, hard and soft
An FM function, that adds the input signal to the modulation of the filter
An optional overdrive for the output, making the sound even more rough and untamed.

Notes: Unique, vintage reverb sound.

The SPRINGREVERB module brings the unique sound of this quite old (introduced in the 60's) technique for creating reverbs to the AE modular.

The reverb works by sending the audio signal to a set of 3 springs; at the other end of the springs the sound is picked up by a transducer, converting the mechanical movement of the springs back into an electrical signal. When the audio signal arrives at the end of the springs, the waves are reflected several times; these reflections create the reverb sound.

The spring "tank" (a metal box containing the springs and transducers, size approx. 24 x 9 x 3.5 cm) is connected externally by a cable.

The product contains all components: The module itself, the spring tank and the connection cable.

Note: The sound of a spring reverb is quite unique and has a strong vintage character; if you are looking for a more "clean", natural sounding reverb please take a look at the MULTIFX module.

Notes: With the STOMP-IO module, you can integrate guitar effect pedals and similar devices into your AE modular system! For output (send) and input (return) return there is a mono minijack socket; two minijack to 1/4" socket adapters are included as effect pedals usually work with the latter ones. Send and return levels can be controlled with separate knobs.

Notes: XMIX is a swiss knife for signal mixing and attenuating, offering four(!) mixers and two attenuators in a 1U module. It is designed especially with very small AE systems in mind.

Notes: CV Random is a random CV generator with 4 types of randomness and a triggerable sample-and-hold function.

Sliders allow you to set the internal clock tempo (RATE), shape the probability of triggering (PROB), blend old with new values (RND) and set the shape of all four random outputs (SHAPE).

4 different sliders

RATE

Sets the tempo of the internal clock. The CV input below the slider adjusts the clock rate, with 1V/oct calibration when the CV attenuverter is 100%. Upon each clock trigger, the RATE slider light blinks, and there is a chance for the internal random source to generate a new value.

PROB

This probability is set by the PROB slider, and if a new value was generated, the PROB slider light blinks and a pulse is emitted from the TRIG output.

RND

When the internal random source generates a new value, it mixes the previous value with a random value, with an amount specified by the RND slider.

SHAPE

The SHAPE slider sets the shape of all four random outputs. At its lowest position (0%), all outputs immediately jump to the new random value (the target value) when the clock is triggered.

At non-zero positions, the outputs interpolate between the previous and the target value, using a different behaviour for each output.

Internal random clock source

Whenever the clock activates, the RATE slider's light flashes. At the same time, there's a chance that the internal random source will create a new value, depending on the PROB slider's setting.

If it does create a new value, the PROB slider's light flashes too, and a pulse comes out of the TRIG output.

External IN & TRIG inputs

If the TRIG input is patched, the RATE slider is ignored, and the internal clock is only triggered when an external trigger is received. The PROB slider is used to filter this trigger by applying some probability.

Self-modulation

Thanks to a switch in the back of the module, you can normalize the LIN output to the 4 CV inputs and adjust the amount of modulation for each parameter with the attenuverters.

This adds another layer of randomness to your results, enabling more dynamic and unpredictable outcomes.

SHAPE Outputs

The STEP output jumps to the new value in one step at 0% SHAPE, and divides the transition into 16 steps at 100% SHAPE.

The LIN output immediately reaches the new value at 0% SHAPE, and takes the whole clock cycle to do so at 100% SHAPE, staying constant in between.

The EXP output shifts exponentially, becoming linear at 100% SHAPE, with its pace adjusted by the SHAPE slider.

The SMTH output transitions smoothly, with the speed controlled by the SHAPE setting, holding at the target until the cycle ends.

Notes: Saturation is a sound designer's best friend. As applying saturation to a sound can make it sound warm, rich and defined. But without any other processing the opposite can happen; making the sound harsh, destroyed and undefined. An often used technique in music production is to saturate specific parts of the spectrum, adding harmonics to enrich the sound but not lose its original quality.

Wyvern takes this technique and makes it a creative sound design tool. When deconstructed Wyvern is built out of a specific chain: Filter EQ, Saturation, VCA, Dual Filter, Dry/Wet Balance. Different combinations of these stages can be used for a variety of sound design and patch situations. And it is all in stereo, so you can apply it to your final mix and stereo signals with ease too!

The Filter EQ stage has a high-shelf, low-shelf and bell curve to boost or diminish parts of the spectrum. When the gain is set to a minimum the EQ curves turn into low-pass, high-pass and notch respectively. A Resonance control puts emphasis on a certain frequency, or it can be used to make Wyvern scream. This is then sent to a Saturation stage. The Drive control sets the amount of Saturation of one of the three

Saturation types

Soft clipping puts more emphasis on the third harmonic and compresses the sound.

Hard clipping puts emphasis on odd harmonics. Finally an Allpass distortion adds phase shifts and distortion. The Saturation stage also has a level control which can be used to decrease the gain after saturation is applied and can function as a unipolar VCA. The Saturation stage is also accompanied with a clip indicator led and a boost switch to scale input signal correctly or simply add more or less harmonics.

The Post-Saturation stage is a high-pass and low-pass combo. Allowing you to select a frequency band from the previous stages. Along with a balance control to adjust the balance between the dry and wet signal.

Camber is designed to be a fun, tactile filter with a small footprint. It's sound is neutral enough for basic filtering without a fuss, with a much more aggressive tone available using high resonance settings in three-pole mode.

Filter Core

The core of the filter is based on a state variable topology using 2164 VCAs and 1% tolerance integrating capacitors. Resonance and feedback control is provided by the fantastic circuit design originally by Neil Johnson "Voltage Controlled 3-Pole State Variable Filter" recently made available in Sound Semiconductor documentation.

Operation

Camber is switchable between low pass and high pass responses with one pole (6dB) and three pole (18dB) flavours of each. It has full CV control of both cutoff frequency and resonance amount. The input is DC-coupled allowing LFO and CV signals to be routed through the filter. The filter will also act as a simple oscillator producing a clean sinusoidal signal with the resonance control turned *almost fully clockwise, and no signal at the audio input. Dialling in the resonance so that it is just under the point of self-oscillation allows the filter to be "Pinged" by sending gate signals to the audio input. This is useful for tuned percussion sounds and FX.

Notes: Tilt is the first in Laine's series of core modules, which will take cues from the main product line and strip back the features so both the module width and cost can be shrunk dramatically.

Comprising an 'Ambler' style tilt EQ network similar to the 'Stilts' topology, Tilt allows simultaneous cut and boost of low and high frequencies using a single control.

Tilt control circuits are known for the transparency of their cut and boost curves, coupled with the inherent emphasis gained from cutting one end of the frequency spectrum whilst boosting at the opposite end.

It sounds pretty good on all audio source material but is especially suited to tracking drums, guitar and lead, or manipulating effects sends and returns.

With the control knob at 12o'clock the sound passed is neutral. Turning the control knob clockwise will boost high and cut low frequencies pivoting from a fixed mid-range point. Turning the control anti-clockwise below 12 o clock will in turn boost low frequencies and cut the highs.

In addition to the EQ there is a soft clipping network which will begin to saturate signals over 15 volts peak to peak.

Some of the key features:

VOLTAGES mode:

Up to 16 voltage storage locations (grid) with 8 voltages stored at each location.

You have the choice to record and playback your recall of these locations in a looper style (just play freely and spend arbitrary amount of time at any location) or as a clocked sequence (SH-101 style). Additionally you can traverse the matrix using the X and Y CV inputs to get Cartesian style sequencing.

There is also variable slew that allows you to morph/glide between the values.

NOTES mode:

You can create sequences or loops in chord, scales or keyboard mode. The isomorphic keyboard grid can vary from 4 notes to 12 notes max. There are real-time performance looping, transposition and inversion capabilities via the CV inputs and dedicated loop button. In sequencer mode each step can be a tie, rest, or gate with size 25/50/75%. Basically we have created a way to very quickly and intuitively make chord sequences that are very musical and easy to manipulate. It is difficult to summarize in words but we will be sure to create some videos to demonstrate how easy and fun this is to play with. It definitely represents something unique in the landscape of Eurorack sequencers.

COMBO mode:

In this mode you can loop record your performance on any combination of the following functions:

fader, bipolar fader, drum hit, switch or LFO. Kind of like Elektron style parameter locking but all of the motions is recorded continuously instead of just in slices. Instantly turn a simple patch into a highly animated and complex beast.

With all of the above mentioned loop recording modes you can very easily overdub since the Tetrapad detects pressure/pressing. In combo mode you can erase individual channels.

All modes allow for internal or external clocking and configurable syncing.

All of the modes have special XYZ CV modulation assignments and make use of the dedicated CV outputs.

For example, in Looper mode one of the CV outputs generates a continuous ramp that represents the position in the loop. This can be used with devices like the Planar 2 in Interpolation mode to sync the recorded patterns together no matter what tempo.

Notes: Need an offset voltage? Of course you do, you probably need one all the time, and you can never seem to find one. Well, here's two.

Yes, the Stereo Offset boasts not one but TWO linked offset voltages, and even better, they can be independently set as unipolar or bipolar with jumpers on the back of the module. To further aid your adventure in offsetting, bicolor LEDs will indicate the current state of both outputs.

Smoothly transition between voltages to simultaneously control other functions in your system, either by applying identical voltages to two different places, or by using simultaneous unipolar and bipolar signals for advanced control over your Eurorack system.

Notes: Drawing inspiration from the MMI Maxima, the MMI Helios is intended as a middle ground between the gestural control surface of the Maxima and the fingertip control of the smaller MMI.

Less density, but a much higher degree of patch control is the key point of the Helios, which complements other MMI devices very well, and can be joined with other Helios (Helii?) to form larger and creative control surfaces.

The design is greatly simplified compared to the original MMI, with only two I/O jacks - either can function as input and output, and their interaction with each other is determined by touching both plates simultaneously to form a connection, or in cooperation with other MMI devices.

Available in a "right" and "left" version - one is an exact mirror image of the other, which makes it suitable for having two units adjacent to one another.

Notes: 3xMIA is a 6-channel attenuverting mixer/offset/scale/polarizer

3 blocks of 2-channel attenuverting mixers, using dual concentric pots. Each channel can be switched to mix with the subsequent channel, allowing for 2-2-2, 4-2, 6 mix configurations.

With nothing plugged into an input, an offset is normalled to that channel. The inner knobs control the A inputs, while the outer knobs control the B inputs.

Akropoli is an extension and enhancement of our successful Little Melody and High Towers modules, offering the features of both of these modules as well as some of it's own unique features such as mute buttons per channel, manual transpose knob and 1V/oct transpose CV input. Akropoli operates using Frequency Central's proprietary TOOL V2 code, and can count in integers as well as multiples for even more subtle and evolving variations.

Akropoli is a generative sequencer based around clock divisions and a chromatic quantiser, used to create in-the-moment licks and riffs. It is more that the sum of it's parts.

Akropoli's internal operations can be considered as 4 clock dividers patched into a CV mixer via attenuators. The attenuators select notes over a 5 octave range, the clock dividers determine how often those notes are added to the mix. The final output of Akropoli is quantized chromatically for fast set up and continuously pleasing results. Akropoli has an onboard transposition knob, as well as a 1V/oct transposition CV input.

The 4 clock dividers are labelled A, B, C, and D. They all receive clocks from the same source, the divisions may be selected using the presets and the individual division selectors. The clock dividers can be set to count up, down, or to one of a variety of modes that move between counting up and down. For further information on Presets and Modes see the Little Melody User Guide.

Additionally, each clock divider has it's own binary output (either high or low), these 4 outputs can be used to clock/gate/trigger other stuff on other modules to great effect.
