Notes: Module A-130-8 contains eight linear voltage controlled amplifiers (VCAs). Each VCA features a control voltage input (CV), a signal input (In) and a signal output (Out). In addition three mixers are included: the socket labelled "1-4" outputs the sum of the VCAs 1-4, the socket labelled "5-8" outputs the sum of the VCAs 5-8, the socket labelled "1-8" outputs the sum of all eight VCAs.

The signal inputs are able to process levels up to 10Vpp without clipping. Each CV input is equipped with a trimming potentiometer that is used to adjust the sensitivity of the CV input in question. In the factory the module is adjusted for the CV range 1...+5V but can be re-adjusted by the user for other control voltage ranges (e.g. 0...+10V).

The amplification range for each single VCA is 0...1. The signals of the sum outputs have a lower amplification to avoid distortion.

The VCAs and mixers are fully DC coupled, i.e. the module can be used for the processing of both audio and control voltage signals. The control voltage and signal inputs can be normalled by means of small solder pads (e.g. 1 > 2 > 3 > 4 and so on, or 1 > 5, 2 > 6, 3 > 7, 4 > 8 for the stereo application mentioned below).

Notes: Hizumitas was designed for the one and only Wata from the legendary experimental band Boris, one of the heaviest bands ever to come out of Japan. The trio of guitar sorceress Wata, drummer and vocalist Atsuo, and double-neck bassist, guitarist and vocalist Takeshi has almost 100 releases filled with genre and brain-melting music.

In their nearly three decades together, Boris has infused doom, hardcore, thrash, noise-core, ambient, free improv, drone, psychedelia, and more into their extensive discography. Boris is also known for their unique collaborations with mutually adventurous artists, including American Doom mongers Sunn O))), noise legends Merzbow, Keiji Haino, and Ian Astbury of The Cult.

Wata, always seen and heard on stage wielding her black Les Paul Custom, mixes killer riffs with searing, fluid, or jaggedly melodic leads and controlled walls of feedback, often with help from an EBow. It's a connection of chaos and melody that has enchanted Boris fans worldwide and influenced many bands that have followed in their considerable wake. Simply stated, no other band sounds like Boris, and no other guitarist rocks like Wata.

But with EQD's Hizumitas fuzz on your pedalboard, you can carve out your own singular, mega-heavy tone.

Hizumitas is a faithful recreation of Wata's go-to distortion pedal, the Elk BM Sustainar. The Elk is a Japanese variant of the very well-known "Triangle" BMP. The designers at EQD tried several vintage BMP's during development, found that each pedal was wildly different and realized that to truly capture the magic they needed the original. The 1971 classic album by Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, Blue is widely thought by many music lovers to be one of the best albums of all time. Already well into her career by the time of its release - it's her fourth album - it was certainly Mitchell's best yet, reflecting a period in her life where she took a break from touring and live performing to focus on creation. Its confessional and poetic lyrics, not to mention the distinctively groggy yet idyllic guitar and piano playing on songs like 'All I Want', 'River', 'A Case Of You', heard Mitchell encapsulate the various milestones, Renaissances and turning points of the contemporary rock landscape of the 1970s, into a singular LP.

Notes: Module A-199 is a spring reverb module. The reverb effect is electronically simulated by means of 3 spiral springs. Spring reverb systems have a very characteristic sound that is based on the (insufficient) mechanical properties of the springs like signal delays, audio resonances, limited frequency range, acoustic feedback behaviour, sensitivity to mechanical shocks and others.

The 3-spring system used in the A-199 ensures a "dense" reverb because of the different properties of the three springs.

The A-199 implies some special features that are not self-evident for spring reverb units:

The reverb signal can be fed back to the input using the Feedback control. Even self-oscillation of the springs similar to the self-oscillation of filters is available. The feedback loop can lead even via external modules like VCA, VCF, phaser, frequency shifter, vocoder, distortion/waveshaper, ring modulator and others. In this case the reverb output of the A-199 is connected to the input of the external module(s) and the output of the external module(s) is fed back to the Ext. Feedback In socket of the A-199. This socket contains a switch that interrupts the internal feedback loop as soon as a plug is inserted.

Another feature is the Emphasis control. This enables the adjustment of the accentuation of middle frequencies (around ~ 2kHz).

With the Mix control the relation between original and reverb signal appearing at the mix output is adjusted.

Using all these features very extreme and unusual effects can be generated with the A-199.

Notes: The 8S is an 8 step sequencer in 8 HP with control over some parameters of the sequence as reset, hold, random step and direction. Amused To Death is the third studio album from Roger Waters outside of his work in Pink Floyd. As one of the fundamental creative forces in the prog behemoth, of course it's hard to separate his solo work from that most famous of bands, but this is indeed its own beast. At times it's an experimental space in which Waters uses space and minimalism to great effect, creating a foreboding sound peppered with speech samples and field recordings. There are of course plenty of more straightforward tracks too, like lead single 'What God Wants, Part 1'. This lavish issue of the 1992 album spreads the music out across four discs and comes in a box set format, a must-have for devoted Floyd and Waters collectors.

Review: If you type ELO into Google today the first suggestion is Elon Musk. Sure, he might have cracked, to some extent at least, the mass-marketed electric car, and all the best to him in the space race. Nevertheless, it's disputable whether or not he was ever quite the visionary Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood, and Bev Bevan were in the early-mid-1970s. The undisputed heyday of Electric Light Orchestra, fourth album Eldorado was arguably at the peak of their creative force. Already having firmly established their sound - a surreal hybrid of bar rock, soul, blues, and grand strings - this record really sees them explore the possibilities of that abstract brew. Better yet, ears were open enough at the time to ensure they didn't languish in obscurity, sole reserve of the obsessives or deliberately contrary listeners, and instead claimed a spot in the upper echelons of British pop at the time.

The DOD Meatbox (2015) offers independent Octave, Output Level, Subharmonic and Low Frequency controls. True bypass allows your tone to remain pristine even when the DOD Meatbox is off. This is a big difference from the original, which would colour your bypassed tone.

Notes: Unlock the potential of the Quad LFO with the LFO Phase Expander. Each expander gives you three outputs that duplicate the LFO with a fixed phase difference. The first ranges from 0- to 180-, the second from 90- to 270-, and the last from 180- to 360-. Along with the original output, this gives you four phases of modulation. These are easily tuneable to quadrature (all knobs centred), but also any arbitrary phase relationship. You can attach up to four expanders, one for each LFO, giving you up to sixteen modulation sources.

A multiphase LFO is extremely useful for building rhythmic modulations, particularly when paired with analogue logic, such as provided by Babel. Further, regardless of the waveform selected on the Quad LFO, the output of the Phase Expander is always a sine wave. This gives you the useful possibility of having three rhythmically related phases of an LFO synced to a clock signal.

Other than rhythmic modulations, the most common use of a multiphase sine LFO is in creating panning and crossfade controls that sound correct using only one or more VCAs. This is useful in panning sounds back and forth, rotating a sound in quadraphonic space, creating Shepard tones, etc.

Even when you don't have a specific need for exact phase relationships, a multiphase LFO gives you a convenient way to expand your palette of potential modulators, adding three related but distinct waves.

Notes: QMS does quadraphonic mid-side processing. Given a left front, right front, left back, and right back signal, it produces a mid and three side signals: left-right, front-back, and cross or diagonal. Rather than merely creating an image of a sound, something that you passively look at, this module allows you to create a sonic texture that fills a room. Listening becomes active exploration instead of passive observation. Ambient music is all about space. But stereo can only provide a passive experience of this space. It's like there was a wonderful landscape glimpsed from a train window, and many experiments in stereo imaging attempt to reproduce the experience of being in that train, looking through that window. Notes: Babel is a tool for creating massive intermodulation, and a workhorse for analogue logic, depending on your use and interpretation of its function. It provides three inputs, which can be arbitrarily increased with the chainable expander (see below). For each of those inputs, Babel outputs the maximum value (ANY), the minimum value (ALL), and the balanced middle value (XSOME), which follows along the centre values of the input waves. What CENTER means is adjustable via knob and CV control. XSOME is particularly interesting, as it has the same general shape as a multiplication function, but with sharper edges. What this means it that Babel will create ring-mod like intermodulation-but with extra harmonics like those produced with a wavefolder, and with an arbitrary number of inputs, instead of just two.

When viewed as a logic module, Babel takes any group of truth values and tells you whether any of them are true (ANY, the equivalent of "or" with just two values), whether all of them are true (ALL, the equivalent of "and" with just two values), and whether some, but not all of them are true (XSOME, the equivalent of "xor" with just two values). Turn CENTER all the way to the right for 0-+5V logic, or leave it cantered for -5V-+5V logic-handy when your "logic" modules are really LFOs.

Notes: The New Systems Instruments VCA module gives you four well-calibrated VCAs in 6HP. These VCAs use operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs) at their core, for true linear operation. However, unlike most OTA VCAs, the New Systems VCA is extremely low noise and distortion, coming in at < 0.2%, with ~0.05% typical.

There's no such thing as "transparent," particularly in synthesis, where the concept of an original signal that could be faithfully reproduced is often altogether absent. Notes: MOOER burst onto the music products scene in 2010 and has been impressing guitarists ever since. Notes: The Foldiplier is a 4hp odd/even harmonics generator with 2 different oscillating feedback paths. The folding core of the design originates from the odd harmonics (middle)section of the Serge Wave Multiplier. But the Foldiplier adds voltage control over the symmetry and offset as well as a switch for feedback, jumper selectable between, a transistor based oscillating fuzz inspired by the Hemmo Bazz Fuss with a lot more low harmonic content and a passive oscillating half wave rectification circuit with more high harmonic content. The Fold knob controls the amount of times the waveform is folded in on its self (indicated by the red led window below the knob). The C.V. knob below is an attenuator for incoming control voltage corresponding to the Fold jack(indicated by the red led window above the jack, it only responds to positive voltage). So, the Fold knob acts like an initial amount of folding depending on its position. For example, with the Fold knob fully clockwise you can get even more folds with a control voltage in at the Fold jack. The Offset knob controls how much positive DC voltage(0 to 5v, clockwise) or negative(0 to -5v counter clockwise) DC voltage(indicated by the led window above the Offset jack, red for positive, yellow for negative) injected into the waveform via the Symmetry knob. With the Offset knob position at noon(0v) there will little effect from the Symmetry knob. The Offset jack is expecting +5v to -5v with knob position at noon to scan through the positive and negative voltage. The Symmetry knob controls the amount of negative or positive offset voltage(dependent on the Offset knob) mixed with the waveform(indicated by the yellow led window above the Symmetry jack). If positive voltage is mixed with incoming waveform more folds will occur on the positive troughs of the waveform, likewise, when negative voltage is introduced more folds happen on the negative troughs. This part of the circuit can also be broken down by thinking of the Offset as a voltage controlled crossfader swinging between positive and negative voltages into a VCA controlled by the Symmetry knob and jack. When a voltage is present at the Symmetry jack the Symmetry knob becomes an attenuator. The Symmetry jack only responds to positive voltage.
