  3. Constancia (6:25)
  4. Celebracion (6:05)
Review: Having previously impressed with two suitably atmospheric EPs on Propersound, Zug has decided to launch his own imprint. This label debut is naturally rather delicious, with the producer offering up a quartet of analogue-rich cuts that effortlessly combine the sci-fi sounding futurism of Detroit with the comforting melodiousness of Larry Heard. Such is the quality throughout that picking highlights is tough, though we're particularly enjoying the gentle grooves and alien melodies of "Constancia" and the suitably dubby, intergalactic pulse of EP opener "Alegria". Elsewhere, "Bienestar" combines bleeping melodies, dreamy chords and shuffling, tech-house style beats, while "Celebracion" sees him wrap far-sighted electronics around a bustling, two-step influenced rhythm track.

Review: LFT has already made a sizable impact on his gnarly, muscular brand of weathered electro and techno, and now he's been snapped up by Zement to deliver another four rowdy roundhousers. "Nucleon" channels the best of minimal wave and gives it a deadly dose of modern acid revelry that will incite fevered responses on the floor, while "Wounds" takes things in a spookier B-movie direction without shaking off those powerful 303 demons. "The Cure For My Kind" manifests as a kind of nightmarish electro, and "Hypno Haniwa" takes another route into machine funk for malevolent souls, with stunning results.

Known in particular for his "Diving Bird" series, a buy-on-sight trilogy of 12"s on Bristol's Idle Hands, the idiosyncratic producer also has releases on No Corner (in collaboration with Ossia), and the seminal Punch Drunk label. His unique style of chopped, techy, warm, pastoralist dubwise had us from the first, and the tunes he sent us flew through our A&R gauntlet with ease. His are records we return to again and again, revealing more subtlety with each listen, free from genre or tempo constraints.

Review: Always tinkering in the curious gaps between musical conventions, Georgia are surely one of the slipperiest entities in contemporary electronics. Following stellar albums for Firecracker, Ekster and Metron, the NYC duo round out a prolific 2019 with another mind-bending long player for Youth. It's as hard to pin down as anything they've done before, playing bricolage with atmospheric field recordings and live percussion pushed through the meat grinder and splattered on the grid with a liberal pouring of synthetic alchemy for garnish. It's not as difficult to digest as that description would suggest either, which is precisely why Georgia are so utterly wonderful to get bewildered by.

Review: We're not sure whether there's a specific concept behind this compilation from the Andrew Lyster-helmed Youth label, though the collected music is rarely less than brilliant. There's no unifying theme as far as we can see, aside from a giddy sense of experimentalism and a desire to make merry with whatever electronic instruments and kitchen utensils come to hand. Amongst the highlights you'll find a clanking chunk of eccentric electronica from Iueke, a dash of deep space IDM from Berlin scene stalwart Kassem Mosse, mind-altering glitch-hop weirdness from Peder Mannerfelt, an Autechre-ish excursion by APRG, some noise/hip-hop fusion courtesy of Shamos, and the intergalactic dub techno exploits of Yugen Disciple.

Review: It has taken five years for FKA Twigs to follow up her astonishing first album, "LP1". With that kind of timeframe, you can't help but have high expectations for the finished product, expectations "Magdalene" more than meets from the off. An artist in the truest sense - with every step and stage in the recording process controlled by her - it's an accomplished comeback for a woman who in the last half decade has experienced both personal loss and major physical challenges. Don't expect more of the same, then, but instead a talent finding new purpose and new confidence following difficult times. With the ever-impressive Nicolas Jaar giving a helping hand, the result is a raw, honest record that's deeply personal, full of self-reflection and, ultimately, accepting and positive. Not to mention destined to be on repeat. Her position as one of the UK's most vital and compelling acts re-confirmed.

Review: Since 2016, Stockholm outfit Viagra Boys has offered up a swathe of singles that excitedly veer between heavy post-punk, krautrock and angry, riff-powered alternative rock. "Street Worms", their debut album, boasts the same swaggering, lo-fi approach as their previous singles, zipping between the fuzz-fuelled dancefloor stomp of "Amphetanarchy", the growling riffs and razor-sharp solos of "Shrimp Shack", the mangled sax solos, bellowed vocals and tempo-changing insanity of "Sports" and the low-slung brilliance of "Slow Learner", which boasts far more funk than much of the rest of the album put together. This CD edition includes a quintet of bonus cuts, with the skewed Americana-80s alt-rock fusion of "Beijing Taxi" and throbbing "Special Helmet" standing out.

Review: Kiwi duo Chaos In The CBD has been on fire of late, delivering a string of deep and jazzy EPs for such labels as Rhythm Section International, Church, Mule Musiq and Amadeus Records. Predictably, this two-tracker on the freshly minted Youandmusic is equally as inspired. A-side "Global Erosion" is a warm and relaxed affair, despite the presence of rolling, Afro-tinged drums, with delay-laden horns drifting across the mix in evocative fashion. The duo's African influences are brought to the fore on "Global Explorer", a rolling, far-sighted affair full of dreamy deep house pads, twittering panpipe melodies and dense tribal percussion.

Recorded in Berlin 2018, expect leftfield techno experiments, lo-fi ambient drifters, slo-mo dubs and challenging soundscapes dwelling on the outer limits. A fantastic inaugural release brought to you by D. Tiffany & Uon's XPQ? - a subsidiary of Plush Managements Inc. & Experiences LTD. out of Montreal.

Review: It's taken a while, but finally Thom Yorke's impressive third solo album, "ANIMA", is available on wax (and in a fetching shade of orange, too). A future classic that continues the legacy he started with XL Recordings back in 2006 (with his solo debut The Eraser), ANIMA is well worth picking up, as Yorke and co-producer Nigel Godrich offer up evocative, off-kilter songs built around the twin attractions of the Radiohead man's distinctive vocals and skewed backing tracks rich in layered electronic noise, body-bending sub-bass, discordant synthesizer parts and intriguingly jaunty drum loops. Highlights are plentiful throughout, from the creepy, lo-fi ambient swirl of "Last I Heard (...He Was Circling the Drain)" and "Dawn Chorus" (a blissfully dewy-eyed early morning soundscape), to the low-slung, post-trip-hop hum of "I Am A Very Rude Person" and the fizzing, jazz-fired thrust of "Impossible Knots". Melancholic, yes. Deep and self-effacing, of course. Nihilistic, not really. Percussive futurist sub-pop is back.

Review: Is this pop? Is this experimental? These are the thoughts that will have crossed many minds when encountering the kind of baffle Jai Paul offers. A guy who seems intent on creating curveball works of art, "BTSTU" in many ways is minimalist stuff, save for the concepts behind the sounds. Or at least its structures give the illusion of minimalism. From the first waterfall of synth to the way in which vocals are allowed to (quite literally) speak for themselves - a multitude of characters with one voice - it's at once bound for the charts and your bookshelf of classic works.

Review: A decade in the making, and then some, Jack Penate's third album is finally ready, with a little help from Paul Epworth, former Spankrock member and jazz percussionist Alex Epton, and Inflo. The canvas painted is both broad and coherent, taking in influences such as disco, folk and classic pop, which may sound disparate but, in this form at least, feels like a bizarrely natural combination. Testament to the artist, tracks like "Murder" - with their bumbling dancefloor rhythm and power synth line - sit comfortably between "Cipralex"'s delicate plucked acoustic guitars, falsetto lyrical delivery and rumbling low end; and the epic piano arpeggiations of heartstring-pulling instrumental "Gemini", with its samples of Penate's grandfather, Mervyn Peake, as read by his uncle Fabian. Elsewhere, "Round and Round" could be labelled lo-fi broken rave balladry, while "Swept To The Sky" closes out on a powerful and uplifting declaration of love.

Review: Britain's most successful synth-pop duo might now be in their early sixties, but the Pet Shop Boys are still capable of crafting near perfect songs - as their forthcoming album "Hotspot" proves. There's plenty to enjoy on this taster single, which like the rest of the album was co-produced by Stuart Price. "Burning The Heather" is a warming and autumnal affair, with their usual bright synths being toned down in favour of jangly acoustic guitars and the kind of bittersweet electronic sounds that dominated their superb 1990 album "Behaviour". Flipside "Decide" is a more upbeat and throbbing affair that includes a rare vocal from the sometime "third sexist man in pop" Chris Lowe (albeit one drenched in auto-tune).

Review: Waage is part of the new generation of Icelandic dub techno producers orbiting labels like the long-standing Thule. His second release appears on XOZ, following 12"s from the likes of Yagya, Exos and more. "W5" is a tough affair with bloated kicks and a subtle swing in the groove, all the better to let ripples of delay ping between. "W6" takes a more chugging approach to the beat programming, but the mood remains heavy and gritty. "W7" lightens things a little with some airy chord processing, and then Cold chips in for a collaborative effort on "W8" - the most tender track on the 12".
