Review: Elevated Senses is the new series from the prolific Berlin-based producer Todo Kunst aka Zug (aka Gruvaldo among many others), this time exploring such concepts with the third eye, premonitions, telepathy and other arcane subjects. On the A-side you've got the deep groove of 'Tercer Ojo' followed by the late night affair of 'Premonition' - both on a housey tip. Over on the flip is the subtle computer funk 'Telepatia' and finally 'Seres De Luz' is a contemplative IDM affair that's perfect for drifting beyond the afterhours.

Review: .All music is, to one degree or another, a product of its environment. In the case of Archy Marshall's fourth studio album as King Krule, Space Heavy, that environment wasn't a single fixed place, but two: the cities of Liverpool and London. As a result, the album - like much of his work - seems to inhibit its own sonic space somewhere between thickset, wide-eyed dream-pop, lo-fi home recordings, mid-80s alternative rock and indie, the DIY immediacy and unlikely instrumentation of post-rock, bluesy laments, late '90s Blur and the string-laden psychedelic pop of prime Beatles. Yet despite the instrumental embellishments, it sounds as scuzzy, lo-fi and out there as Marshall's inspirational early work.

Review: Winthorpe Electronics signs up Dublin musician and producer Daniel Jacobson aka ZOiD for his debut on the label. What a fine one it is too with a real creative freedom in the melodies and rich sense design bringing each of these curveball cuts to life. '2-Oh-Techno' is a loose mix of bumpy drums and smeared chords, zippy leads and pixelated melodies that shine bright. 'Winthrope Acrid 2C (2-5s On The 303)' is then a double-time and wonky workout with a collage of synth textures all intertwining. 'Sunrise Acid' is another unusual but effective techno cut with a happy heart and 'Megajazz Acidhops' is a final collision of synths and rhythms that leaves you wanting more.

Review: Sean Bowie's fifth full-length as Yves Tumor arrives with an epic title (the academically minded will be debating its meaning for years to come), a grandiose electro-rock/post-punk goes-electroclash sound, and a bagful of valedictory reviews. It's basically an extension of Bowie's previous work with a few twists, but that's no bad thing; after all, the artist's distinctive sound and strong songs have always been an impressive calling card. Highlights are plentiful, from the fizzing, 21st century punk-funk of 'Lovely Sewer', and the Prince-does-Nine Inch Nails-flex of 'Parody', to the alternately jangling and sleazy 'Operator', and the post-ESG dancefloor heaviness of 'Fear Evil Like Fire'.

Review: Ghetts is undoubtedly amongst the top tier of British MCs - a grime legend famed for being a genuinely dextrous lyricist. As On Purpose, With Purpose proves, he's also an artist whose output has evolved considerably since he emerged in the late 2000s. Review: Lacksley Castell's 'What A Great Day' is something of a roots reggae classic that has been long hard to find after first dropping back in 1979. It still spuds fresh and will pack a punch on any sound system. Prince Jammy is a master of mixing this sort of stuff who later went on to be a big player in the dancehall game having eventually ditched his analogue tools in favour of digital ones. His dub 'Throne of Blood' is on there flip to round out another brilliant 45rpm from VP, who are masters of just that.

Review: VP have got some special and long-lost roots reggae classics here on 45rpm for the first timer in forever. The A-side here first dropped in 1979 and was recorded at Channel One, mixed at King Tubby's and produced by Prince Jammy not one before he went digital - something of a holy trinity of top-class reggae quality. The original is full of proper good and authentic dub flavour with fat bass and smoky atmospheres. Prince Jammy's own superb dub cut features on the flipside which is full of his usual mixing desk magic.

Review: This Japanese edition of the Beatles' much-trumpeted 'final single', 'Now and Then', has been pressed to 'SHM-CD', a format playable on all CD players that its manufacturers claim guarantees superior sound quality. Given the high-tech nature of the record - much effort was made by Giles Martin, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr to piece it together and make it sound special - many Beatles fans will find this appealing. The song itself has divided opinion, though there's no doubt that its blend of group harmony vocals, swelling strings, and typically jangly Beatles grooves leaves a lasting impression. It comes backed with a fresh, cleaned-up stereo mix of the band's debut UK single, 'Love Me Do', which benefits from greater sonic clarity and instrument separation.

Review: Berlin-based soul crew The Frank Popp Ensemble recorded their Out Of Town album in a flash of inspiration at the start of 2022, but the roots of the project lie in those weird lockdown times when Popp connected with a young vocalist called Jesper Munk. The pairing of Popp's breezy soul-pop and Munk's easy-on-the-ear croon is a match made in heaven, and the 'Out Of Town' single itself has a classic feel which just seems right on a 7". Unique have done the right thing and pressed it up with 'Torn Up' on the flip, dinked the centre hole and sent it out in the direction of juke joints the world over.

Review: Germany's mighty fine Tramp label asks you to enjoy some Sax on The Rocks here courtesy of mod-soul monster Gus Brendel. This classic of the genre has never been available on 45rpm before now and is sure to fly off the shelves as a result. It's a sax laced - obviously - seducer with a funky rhythm and steaming hot organ chords doing a busy dance. If you flip it over, you'll find a real ass-wiggler in the form of 'Arabian Nights' which was actually recorded a couple of years before the title track on the A-side. It's another steamy dance floor gem.

Review: Two of Finnish label Timmons regulars in their house band Cold Diamond & Mink and heart-melting vocalist Emilia Sisco come together once more here following previous successes such as 2019's vital 7", 'Don't Believe You Like That'. Review: There's a definite sense of "time and place" throughout John Carrol Kirby's latest album, Blowout. He recorded it all during a recent trip to Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica, "between 5am wake-up calls from orpopendola birds and psychedelic sunsets", drawing inspiration from the people, music and nature that surrounded him. It's certainly a joyful and colourful affair - despite his insistence that it's about "enjoying yourself even though life is tough, before the candle blows out" - with Kirby mixing sparkling, often kaleidoscopic 1980s electrofunk synth sounds with warming grooves, pastoral woodwind instrumentation, and musical motifs that draw on his love of jazz-funk and fusion. It's basically a sensationally summery affair whose mostly subtly nods to Costa Rican musical culture only enhance the album.

Review: Mexico-based duo Apocrifo serve up their debut single 'Indicut' with LA hip-hop and soul virtuoso Georgia Ann Muldrow on the vocal. This outfit is made up of producer Kefren Rivera and percussionist Carlos Huitro and they plenty of jazz, hip hop and electroacoustic elements into a unique sound that is exemplified here. The track is a broody, lo-fi world of sound with hip-hop beats and the yearning jazz vocals of Muldrow adding to the effect next to sombre piano chords. Review: Sometimes reunions can be awkward. A load of people who lost touch trying to ignore the nagging 'whys' and 'what ifs' of their now-fractured shared histories, while attempting to 'catch up' on what's been going on since they fell out of regular contact ages ago. Thankfully, Warpaint's return to the release schedule after a two year hiatus, and their return to Rough Trade, the label they started out on, only feels right. Common Blue is a two-sided single that also serves as a reminder of why we fell for the band in the first place, 20 years ago (if that doesn't make you feel old, more references are available). The title track is best described as an earthy-groover, melodies effortlessly flowing over hushed vocals, arrangement wrapped around a strolling rhythm. In comparison, 'Underneath' takes the tempo down, beautiful sung harmonies and gentile guitar chords creating the sonic equivalent to a summer afternoon by the lake.

Review: Following on from Running Back's much-needed reissue of their seminal, saucer-eyed early 90s deep house gem 'Mermaids', Ali Tillett's Re:Warm label has decided to serve up a fresh retrospective of the sprawling career of Hull twosome Fila Brazillia. Tillett has done an excellent job too - not an easy task given the sheer size of the pair's catalogue - opting to mix kaleidoscopic early favourites (the dreamy, sunrise-ready brilliance of 'The Sheriff') and bona-fide chill-out classics (the superb 'A Zed and Two L's' and 'Harmonicas Are Shite') with stoner funk numbers from later albums ('Throwing Down a Shape', 'Airlock Holmes') and lesser-celebrated treats (the dense, slow-motion excellence of 'Neanderthal'). There's even a previously unreleased gem recorded last year: the return-to-their-roots brilliance of 'Toro De Fuego'.

Review: Second time around for Jean-Michel Jarre's 2022 album Oxymore, a loving tribute to French composer and 'music concrete' pioneer Pierre Henry. As the title suggests, this version features new remixes of album tracks (all of which feature sounds originally created by Henry) by a disparate group of musical talents. Review: Back in 2020, hip-hop, breaks and electro stalwart Freddy Fresh decided to turn his hand to vintage-sounding house and techno, self-releasing a set of tracks called The Harvest online. Rawax were impressed, with the popular label deciding to put the pick of the cuts out on vinyl. Title track 'The Harvest' sets the tone, with the veteran producer wrapping a house-tempo, post-electro groove in sustained organ chords, spacey synths and bubbly electronic melodies. 'House-Spanner' sees him doff a cap to The Middle of Nowhere-era Orbital (seriously, it's very reminiscent of the Hartnoll brothers' late '90s output), while 'Misunderstood' is a woozy, delay-laden chunk of early morning U.S deep house. Elsewhere, the deep house dreaminess continues on the interestingly swung 'Twain', and clonking, TB-303 speckled 'Horlywagon'.

Review: Under the Moss Covered Technology alias, Greg Baird has delivered a string of inspired ambient albums inspired by memories and moments in time. His latest full-length excursion, A Shared Place, has similarly specific roots - namely his experiences of a weekend away on the North Devon coast with his partner as Storm Eunice battered the British Isles. In the words of Polar Seas, the label releasing the album, Baird has delivered a 'series of sound postcards' - melodic and naturally hugely atmospheric ambient and soft-touch electronica excursions wrapped in evocative field recordings of stormy seas and rain lashing against the windows of rented accommodation. It's beautiful, soothing, emotionally rich and genuinely beguiling.

Review: Alan Myson's latest album as Ital Tek - his eighth for Planet Mu since debuting in 2008 - is an album of contrasts, offering aural darkness and light, intensity and becalmed beauty - and sometimes within the same track. 'Take A Chance' is full of steamy promise and retro-future 80s synth work over crunchy drums. The vocal is alluring and sensuous and the bassline further pulls you in. They came on the Penrose label in Spain and that is where they return now with a new limited 7". 'Running Away' opens up in frantic but soul fuelled fashion with quick and slick drums and gorgeous vocal falsettos up top. Things slow down and take a sentimental turn on the flip with 'Love Comes Easy', featuring aching vocal yearns and expressive sax lines heightening the mood. Review: Following a couple of years spent re-releasing many of her classic albums, alongside sets featuring demo versions of the same songs, Polly Jean Harvey is finally ready to release a new album - her first for seven long years. Reunited with long-time collaborators John Parish and Flood, Harvey delivers alluring, at times otherworldly songs - delivered beautifully and with more than a hint of world-weary emotions - backed by sparse, effects-laden instrumentation, metronomic grooves and plenty of pastoral, folk-influenced intent. We've not listened to the lyrics intently enough (yet) to adequately discuss their themes, but in advance Harvey's label promised "biblical images and references to Shakespeare" amongst the introspection and hard-worn commentary.

Review: Alpha and Omega's 'Shashamani' was first featured on a 1996 long player called Voice in the Wilderness. It's an ice-cold dub with a fathom-deep low end and hypnotic if muted lead melody that snakes its way between the heavy drums. It's a cavernous atmosphere that sounds as fresh now as ever. It has never been backed with this unheard B-side dub before, either, so is an extra special one to add to the racks as that dub goes extra melon-twisting with more punch in the kicks and hissing hi-hats leaving long tails.

Review: Whisper it quietly, but 40 years into the career, the Pet Shop Boys might be about to release their best album in decades. We'll have to wait for that set, Nonetheless, but this taster single - produced, like the LP, by James Ford - certainly suggests we're in for a treat. 'Loneliness' is prime PSB, with sweeping strings, soaring orchestration and double-tracked Neil Tennant vocals rising above a Giorgio Moroder style bassline, metronomic electronic drums and smart synth-work from Chris Lowe. Grandiose, polished synth-pop excellence, basically. As always, the accompanying B-sides are excellent, too, with the cowbell heavy 'Party In The Blitz' (a kind of Pets-do-LCD soundsystem workout) being followed by the moody, analogue-rich electronic chug of 'Through You (Extended Mix)'.

Review: US dub crew Park Heights has got a real gem on their hands here with this latest 7". It is a killer jam from the mid-1980s that was made at Aquarius Studio. The 'live digital' tune has never before been released which is a wrong that is rightly corrected here and is even more special as it has Errol Dunkley on the rhythm even though it is not his usual style. It is a heavy stepper with loopy drums and hits that echo off to infinity as he drops his loved-up vocals over the. It of course comes with a superb dub on the flip.

Review: Six Minute Mile has rightly got plenty of attention for its first few outings and their early good work connotes with this eight 7". It's from Ohio's Wesley Bright who has joined forces with The Means of Production and New York's Ben Pirani, and is a lovely mid-tempo roller that reminds of balmy summer nights. Review: NX12X is the first in a new series of experimental records from this label and the artists given the keys for the inaugural release are Goldsmiths student and modular synth maestro Sam Hostettler and electronic innovator La Leif who tackle a pair of tracks each. Hostettler's sounds are the moody, heavy ambient atmospheres of 'Pointalims' and the more light and airy li-fi soundscapes of 'Opalescence.' La Leif offers broken beats with a skeletal feel and a burial-style synth aesthetic on 'Kyoto' and then crunchy breaks and fizzing, distorted synth malfunctions of 'Kimochi.'

Review: American soul vocal group Pondersosa Twins Plus One was a group that had a huge impact on pop music, even though they didn't know it when they first started out. Their first official American 45rpm came in 1971 and this is a first ever official reissue of it from the good folks at Numero Group. Up first is the yearning 'Bound' with a lead vocal that returns the Jackson 5-era voice of Michael Jackson. On the flip is the equally enthralling and impassioned soul and funk of 'I Remember You.' Review: Numero Group has another of their superb soul gems here from former Mind & Matter bandmates James "Jimmy Jam" Harris and Michael Dixon. The duo teamed up in 1978 for this gospel-boogie banger which first came on the private Mad label, so is now mad hard to find. 'You're Everything' is a classy dancer with a big heart and those Good worshipping vocals taking things to new heights. The flip is no slouch either and keeps the grooves coming with 'You're All I Need' another timeless classic that will improve any set and record collection no end.

Review: Dimas Garza made his breakaway from The Royal Jesters in the mid '60s. His solo career was something of a reinvention under the new alias Dimas III and saw him record three singles for Clown, a label run, ironically, by The Jesters. They have all since become very hard to find and expensive records that are much sought after so it's great they now make it back to press courtesy of Numero Group. 'So Funny' and 'I Won't Love You Again' are both posse dup dee on this fine 45rpm and make for some steamy Southern soul. Somehow, Garza never broke out of his own locale but he did leave a great musical legacy.

Review: This is one of those disco holy grails that doesn't even need to convince you of its worth, and its no surprise original copies have been so coveted for so long. Chicago's Magic Touch label was a low key affair, but jams like this ensure its impact remains strong to this day as LaJohn and Sheela lay down the feeling in no uncertain terms. 'Too Far Gone' is a smouldering, bittersweet track which deserves to reach as many soulful heads as possible, so this tasty remaster courtesy of Numero couldn't come soon enough.

Review: Martin James Ziggy Norman Riley deiced that he would be known as Jimmy Riley when in recording more. The Jamaican singer worked solo but also as part of the Sensations. Here he worked with producer Freddie McGregor on a contemporary lovers rock jam that was originally released back in 1993. 'Badda Than Them' has great patois vocals over fresh production that has clean digital synths over clipped beats and plenty of swaggering and original dub style bass weight. On the flip you get two different versions that tweak and tease out different elements from the original.

Review: Mukatsuku looks to the legendary Japanese downtempo producer Calm here for a new, hand-numbered 7" in the form of his 'Quiet Music Under The Moon' sampler. It features two tunes taken from his masterful new album, the first being 'Oyasumi, Ohayo' where subtle synths ripple beneath Balearic leads. It's heartbroken ambient introspection for late-night star gazing. On the flip, 'Moon Shower' is more hopeful and optimistic, with mellifluous layers of synth shimmer like the sun off the Med. It's beautiful and cathartic with Calm's majestic synth craft front and centre.
