There's nothing new about ABY boxes. They're a very commonly used accessory and a staple part of many setups out there. But if they are so common, then why is it so difficult to find one in a stereo format that's well built, noise-free AND affordable?

So, KMA made a killer stereo ABY switcher to use in the workshop. In the process it was found to be so useful, it has been made available to the world too in a pedal format.

Whether you're looking to switch or combine your stereo input signal between two separate destinations or switch or combine two separate stereo input signals into a single output, the KMA Machines STEREO ABY pedal is a dependable little helper for your tonal quest. Created with a focus on durability, reliability, simplicity and hassle-free operation, this passive ABY switcher also features True Bypass active silent relay-based soft switching to reduce mechanical noise and unwanted pops and clicks when in use. So, all you have to do is choose your path and perform!

KMA's STEREO ABY features a fully passive design for the best signal integrity, along with True Bypass active silent relay-based soft switching. While that might be a hell of a wordy mouthful, what it means practically is that the audio signal itself is entirely untouched and without any colouration. Plus, you can use the device in either direction, for sending to different sets of amps or effects or for switching inputs/ instruments/devices into your chain.

However, the actual switching is taken care of by reliable and sturdy soft switches as a separate active circuit. By employing this switching technology, mechanical noise is greatly reduced, as is the risk of those pesky loud c
licks and pops that have plagued so many boards and has haunted so many musicians, since the inception of ABY boxes.

Okay, besides just looking cool and fulfilling boyhood dreams of an army of robot bears with freaking lasers as eyes, the 3 distinct LEDs actually serve a practical purpose; to quickly and easily show you what signal path you've selected at a glance. Review: CircoLoco Records is a new record label forged in partnership with the iconic video game creators Rockstar Games. After four editions of colour coded releases, we now have the entire collection of 20 tracks compiled here on one 5xLP package. From the Black edition there's the tunneling techno of Adam Beyer's powerful 'Break It Up', from the Violet edition you have Margaret Dygas' majestic broken beat journey 'Wishing Well', as well as tINI with the neon-lit disco of 'What If, Then What?' featuring Amiture (Green) and Sama Abdulhadi with the steely and hypnotic techno of 'Reverie' taken from the Blue series - plus many more.

Notes: The Black3 uses a three piece OTL cantilever that has a Grado specific diamond mounted on a brass bushing.

What's the difference between Black2 and Green2?
Approximately 15% of the Black3 production run meet higher specifications. These are hand selected from the batch and designated as Green3.

Grado's OTL, or optimized transmission line, technology provides an ideal transfer of signal from the surface of the LP to the generator of the system. This technology rejects unwanted resonances and lowers distortion preserving the fundamental and harmonic frequencies of the music. This also helps keep noise generated by the motor system in the cartridge to a minimum.

Grado's OTL stylus/cantilever design makes records sound quieter, improves the height, width, and depth of the soundstage, and present more detail than previously obtainable.

The Black3 is hand assembled by Grado's team in Brooklyn, with some builders having over 25 years of experience. This updated series of cartridges offers excellent tonal balance, dynamics, and realism, for a most rewarding reproduction of vocals and instruments. The coil winding techniques using ultra high purity copper wire, which were honed during the development of the Lineage Series, have let the electrical circuits achieve unison between the four coils in each phono cartridge. This allows for a precise balance between channels and accurate stereo imaging.

As in all Grado phono cartridges the Black3 is powered by a twin magnet system that optimizes the balance between stereo channels. All internal magnetic circuit parts are held to extremely high tolerances creating the desired stereo imaging. Grado's patented Flux-Bridger design allows the Black2 to have one of the lowest effective moving mass generating systems while creating an excellent balance throughout the full frequency range.

Notes: The Kenton Merge 4 can merge the data from up to 4 separate MIDI sources (e.g. Master keyboards or controllers) into a single MIDI data stream which appears at both of the MIDI out sockets. It features 4 opto-isolated MIDI inputs and 2 MIDI outputs.

Notes: TM is a probabilistic random sequence generator based on the research of Alan Turing. His Turing machine was a mathematical model of computation that could, in theory, create any output based on a set of instructions and input variables. In a similar way, the TM chooses random values for steps in a sequence based on the user's probability settings. Envelope controlled filter is an effect type that ventures beyond the mainstream yet is equally at home in a wide range of genres and equally effective on guitar, bass, keys, horns and more. Electro-Harmonix is a pioneer in this effect category and has been making envelope controlled filter pedals since the 1970s! The Nano Q-Tron springboards off that deep heritage.

Here's how it works: The Nano Q-Tron responds to the user's playing style and dynamics. The volume of the input signal it receives (also called the envelope) controls the cutoff or center frequency of a swept filter. Notes: Module A-147-5 contains four voltage controlled low frequency oscillators (VCLFO) with triangle waveform outputs. All LFOs share a common frequency control. Each of the LFOs 2, 3 features a Delta control which is used to shift the frequency of the LFO in question up or down. With the Delta controls at center positions the frequencies of all LFOs are roughly the same. To control the frequencies by external control voltages four CV inputs are available which follow roughly the 1V/oct standard.

Application examples:

Generation of four triangle modulation signals with a common frequency control for all LFOs and individual controls for the frequency deviation of each LFO, manually adjustable and controllable by external control voltages
Generation of modulation signals for polyphonic FM/PWM applications. For this the four CV inputs are connected to the same control voltages which are used to control the frequencies of the corresponding VCOs. That way each LFO follows the frequency of the associated VCO with the possibility to control the frequency of all VCOs (control F) and the frequency deviations (Delta F controls). For the simultaneous modulation depth control the Quad VCA module A-130-4 is recommended.
Generation of complex modulation signals by summing up the outputs (e.g. by means of a mixer module A-138n / A-138i / A-138j)

Technical notes:

The level of the triangle outputs is about +/-5V (10Vpp)
The manually adjustable frequency ranges from about 0.025 Hz (about 40 seconds) to about 50 Hz with the delta controls of LFOs 2, 3 and 4 about center position
The frequency deviations adjusted by the delta controls are about +/-1:5. Example: with 1 Hz in center position the frequency shift ranges from about 0.2 Hz in position -5 to about 5 Hz in position +5 (1 Hz/5 = 0.2 Hz, 1 Hz*5 = 5 Hz).

The scale of the CV inputs is roughly 1V/oct (not adjustable)
The CV inputs are normalled from top to bottom. Provided that only socket CV1 is patched CV1 controls the frequencies of all four LFOs.
When each CV input is patched to it's own control voltage each LFO is controlled individually by it's own CV. In this case CV1 controls only the frequency of LFO1.
Internally the rectangle outputs are available at four terminals (typ level +/-10V or 20Vpp). If required they can be wired to four sockets of a DIY breakout module made by the user, 1k protection resistors are recommended to avoid short circuits. If lower levels are required passive attenuators (voltage dividers) may be used.
Internally is even an (unbufferd) triangle sum signal available. For this each of the four triangle outputs is simply connected to the sum output terminal via a 47k resistor. This output has high impedance and should be buffered or amplified to avoid level drop when the load changes (e.g. by means of an A-180-3 or A-180-4 or A-183-3).
By changing the values of the capacitors in the LFO circuits even other frequency ranges are possible (e.g. Quad VCO to form kind of a cloud VCO). Pay attention that the accuracy of the CV input scales is not sufficient for precise 1V/oct VCO applications. The 1V/Oct scales cannot be adjusted and the circuits are not temperature compensated.

Review: When people think Black Sabbath, they're most likely thinking of their initial tenure with the incomparable Ozzy Osbourne, while then there's the other camp who recognise the greatness of the Oz-Man but opt to worship at the shrine of Ronnie James Dio. Notes: Uni is a triple attenuverter utility module designed to give cases gigantic macro control knobs.

Inputs:

CV inputs 1 and 3 - CV input for bidirectional attenuation. When input cables aren't plugged into these jacks, 5v reference signals will be used.
CV input 2 - CV input for either unidirectional or bidirectional attenuation. When an input cable isn't plugged into this jack, a 5v reference signal will be used.
Switch - toggles CV input 2 between unidirectional and bidirectional attenuation.

Outputs:

CV outputs 1, 2 and 3 - attenuated CV output. If no cables are plugged into an output jack, it is summed into the subsequent output jack.

Module A-130-8 contains eight linear voltage controlled amplifiers (VCAs). Each VCA features a control voltage input (CV), a signal input (In) and a signal output (Out). In addition three mixers are included: the socket labelled "1-4" outputs the sum of the VCAs 1-4, the socket labelled "5-8" outputs the sum of the VCAs 5-8, the socket labelled "1-8" outputs the sum of all eight VCAs.

The signal inputs are able to process levels up to 10Vpp without clipping. Each CV input is equipped with a trimming potentiometer that is used to adjust the sensitivity of the CV input in question. In the factory the module is adjusted for the CV range 1...+5V but can be re-adjusted by the user for other control voltage ranges (e.g. 0...+10V).

The amplification range for each single VCA is 0...1. The signals of the sum outputs have a lower amplification to avoid distortion.

The VCAs and mixers are fully DC coupled, i.e. the module can be used for the processing of both audio and control voltage signals. The control voltage and signal inputs can be normalled by means of small solder pads (e.g. 1 > 2 > 3 > 4 and so on, or 1 > 5, 2 > 6, 3 > 7, 4 > 8 for the stereo application mentioned below).

Notes: Module A-160-2 is an enhanced version of the standard clock divider A-160. The module is a frequency divider for clock/trigger/gate signals, designed to be a source of lower frequencies, particularly for rhythm uses. The Clock input will take any digital signal from, eg. LFO, MIDI sync, or the gate from a MIDI-CV interface. At the outputs, you have access to three sets of seven different sub-divided clock signals, from half the clock frequency down to 1/128. The low/high levels of the output signals are 0V and about +10V.

The A-160-2 also has a reset input. Whenever a reset signal is sensed, all outputs are set to certain levels which depend upon the selected mode.

These are the most important features of the module:

- Clock edge type selected by a jumper on the pc board:
- Positive: the rising edge of the clock signal triggers the state change of the outputs
- Negative: the falling edge of the clock signal triggers the state change of the outputs

Reset behaviour by two jumpers on the pc board:
- Level triggered: the level at the Reset input triggers the Reset
- Edge triggered: the edge of the signal at the Reset input triggers the Reset
- Positive: a high level (> 2.5V) or the rising edge at the Reset input triggers the Reset
- Negative: a low level (< 1 V) or the falling edge at the Reset input triggers the Reset

Output polarity selected by a jumper on the pc board:
- Positive: non-inverted outputs
- Negative: all seven outputs are inverted

Notes: The 2hp VCA is a dual, linear VCA. It uses the renowned 2164 SSM architecture, giving it extremely low distortion and high quality audio outputs. With a CV input attenuator, and DC-coupled inputs this is your new go-to module for voltage controlled amplification of audio or CV.

Notes: A-133-2 is the slim version of the A-133 but has some additional features and improvements available compared to the A-133.

Module A-133-2 can be used for a lot of applications: as a simple VCA, or a voltage controlled polarizer/attuverter, or a voltage controlled inverter up to a DC coupled ring modulator. In principle the module contains two special voltage controlled amplifiers (VCAs) that allow both positive and negative amplification.

The overall amplification is definded by the sum of the voltage generated by the Man control, the external control voltage CV and the position of the CV control which works as an attenuator for the external control voltage. Without external CV the amplification is +1 when the Man control is fully CW. In the center position the amplification is zero and fully CCW it's -1 (i.e. the incoming signal is inverted). By means of the external control voltage CV the manually adjusted amplification can be modulated. CV can be both positive or negative (i.e. bipolar) to obtain positive or negative amplification values controlled by the external CV.

In addition the CV signal can be modulated via the modulation control input Mod by means of another control voltage. The Mod socket is normalled to +5V, i.e. a constant positive voltage is used as modulation CV provided that no plug is inserted into the Mod socket.

With numerous requests from the pedal community and professional players worldwide, Nobels have added the option of an internal Bass Cut switch under the battery cover to help tame your low end if needed. In standard mode though, you still get the full frequency response of the original that is perfect for warming up single coils etc. In addition, the internal power circuitry has been increased to allow for 9-18 V capability to provide extra headroom, if your playing styles and tone goals require it. These new features haven't altered the fundamental tone and vibe, but have increased the versatility of the pedal massively for modern rigs.

With the drive control, the distortion can be easily adjusted from almost clean to maximum drive. The circuit also works very well with your guitar's volume control, so by backing off the volume you can clean up your tone. The tonal range is controlled by the Spectrum control tone pot with mid-click and fluorescent pointers on the Glow-in-the-Dark knobs. Turn the knob clockwise and it increases the bass and treble at the same time, while turning it counter clockwise has the opposite effect. The midrange stays untouched in either direction, to ensure a transparent yet warm tone wherever the Spectrum knob is placed.

Notes: MIXZ is a multi-channel mixing module for mixing audio, CV, and gate signals with excellent linear response and low noise. Balancing a clear visual layout and multiple mixers in a small footprint makes the MIXZ easy to use in a variety of configurations within a modular synth. Its high-quality analog mixing circuitry makes for a great sounding mixer with plenty of headroom, providing a smooth, organic merge of dynamics and excellent separation of mixing sections and channels. MIXZ has three sections:

Mixer A: a low-noise, 4-channel mixer with independent gain control for each channel.
Mixer B: a low- noise, 4-channel mixer with master gain control.
MixBus: a multi-channel mixer that mixes signals from modules utilizing the Tiptop MixBus.

Mixer A and B can be configured as either two independent, 4-channel mixers or as a single 8-channel mixer. If the output of Mixer A is not in use, then Mixer A will be routed internally to Mixer B forming the 8-channel mixer.

Tiptop MixBus is a new method we have developed to mix audio signals through the Eurorack power bus board without patch cables. A little bit of magic, eh? Although this technique is not ideal for a low-noise mix, we found it to be useful for some applications, including mixing our drum modules, which all have a MixBus-enabled output. The result is that your drum modules are always available and mixed on the master out of the MIXZ with a flip of a switch. This will save you time and frees up cables for repatching sound again and again, while keeping the channels of MIXZ free to bring other signals into the mix.

Combining the MixBus with Mixer A and B, the MIXZ sums dozens of channels in only 10HP.
