Early Death
Review: Playing the guessing game is becoming increasingly regular with regards to releases on The Trilogy Tapes; like Levantis, Rezzett and Ondo Fudd before them, Chemotex arrive on Will Bankhead's label with a foggy sense of mystery that's hard to unravel. Although we may never know whether the producer will turn out to be the moniker for someone more notorious or just another example of Will Bankhead's canny A&R, TTT releases are rarely about the name on the label, and more about the head turning nature of the music itself. Still though, Bankhead appears to have stumbled upon perhaps the most corrosive TTT material yet, with "Schrade Knives" every bit as sharp as the name suggests and comparable to Container having a particularly bad day. However, it's edged out by "Payphone Player", which is pretty much a noise techno version of the ringtone from hell. As you'd expect, it's not for the faint of heart.

Smooth Motion (5:05)
Look Back Motion (5:11)
Review: DJ Nobu & NHK yx Koyxen new MTV moniker is something only The Trilogy Tapes could come up with, and it's another fine addition to the label's infamous web blog, which contains all sorts of outlandish sounds from every corner of the globe. "Snow Ball" and "Smart Ball", on the A-side, are two sides of the same coin; the former bleeps placidly to an eerie groove of molecular hypnotics, while the latter enters the rave with a slow yet brutalist assortment of bass bumps. "Smooth Motion" is a fuzzy, imperceptible techno experiment in the same style as Thomas Brinkmann's oddities, and "Look Back Motion" rattles an itchy, acid-driven stomper over a bare-bones groove that has TTT stamped all over it. That artwork, too...

Review: Geo Rip is the trio of Aaron Leitko, John Calvin Jones and Mike Petillo who made their debut four years ago with a cassette release on U-Udios out of Takoma Park, MD (USA). Their eponymously titled sophomore effort here on The Trilogy Tapes features four experimental cuts, all said to be improvised live-to-tape. From the wonky electronics and splintered beats of opening track "Drop In Center" leading into the off-kilter deepness of "Nah Press Fake Text", their sound then diverts into more electro (-ish) sounding territory on woozy B2 track "Underwater Bodycam".

Review: Lukid & Tapes combine their scuzzy sounds once more as Rezzett for this new and sonically fucked up outing on The Trilogy tapes. It's lo-fi music full of perfect imperfections and dusty sound sources, cruddy rhythms and distant cosmic noise that sounds both as if dug up from under many layers of ancient soil but also somehow sent back from the future. It is now a decade since this pair made their first outing but their sound remains fascinatingly original. For loose genre references, imagine breakbeat hardcore, 90s jungle, granular Detroit techno and raw Chicago house all chucked into a blender.
