Review: Hip hop super group Run The Jewels aka Brooklyn-based rapper-producer El-P and Atlanta-based rapper Killer Mike continue to turn out new albums that continue to get a great reception. But at the same time, their old albums are still much sought after and so are being reissued. Run The Jewels 2 first came back in 2014 and received widespread acclaim from critics. They appreciated its darker, more layered production and Killer Mike and El-P's lyricism and chemistry and its guest contributions from the likes of Zach de la Rocha, Travis Barker and Diane Coffee.

Review: On their second album Desperado, the Eagles went deep into the idea of the American Wild West. With their country twang, Glenn Frey and Don Henley's songs were already cowboy-friendly, but this album took the concept further. Released in 1973, it captures everything you love about the Eagles from shit-kickin' rock n' roll like 'Out of Control' facing off with sentimental classic 'Tequila Sunrise'. After all this time it's the title track which remains one of the band's most beloved songs - everything a lonesome man on the prairie needs to hear after a hard day and a hoedown.

Review: Van Halen's third release, Women & Children First, showcases the band coming into their own after their meteoric rice to fame in the late 70s. Originally released in 1980, the album made the top ten and sold over three million copies with little radio play and not even a top 40 song. The album is also ranked #36 in the top 100 Heavy Metal records of all time. Released on limited numbered 180 gram at 45RPM Audiophile SuperVinyl with the UltraDisc One-Step process spread across two records. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab US's pressing is perhaps the ultimate copy to have for the discerning audiophile.

Review: Singer, songwriter, former Navy sailor and Oklahoma native Zach Bryan first rose to fame in 2019 with his self-released debut country album DeAnn. Bryan's raw storytelling approach attracted a dedicated following, justifying many follow-ups - his latest EP Summertime Blues included. Something of a sibling piece to the recent album American Heartbreak, the EP deploys sweet vocal lilts, banjo strums and fiddle bowings to channels many brooding, blue-collar emotions, reflecting lives lived on the road and bittersweet days gone by.

Do It To The Music (Fred Falke X Zen Freeman remix)
Review: 'Technopera' is the debut EP by Ampersounds (Fred Falke and Zen Freeman), featuring Rufus Wainwright. It's a bold claim for a debut electro-house EP to feature vocals by such a renowned artist. But Fred Falke nad Zen Freeman are no rookies either, having won the hearts of many a house and techno reveller in France, Europe and beyond since the 1990s. Ampersounds and the Wainwright collab was made manifest after an intellectual chat the trio shared over some highfalutin poetry; fittingly, Technopera has an air of intellectualism about it, with highlights like 'Solitude Of Heart' portraying a downtrodden mood blended with smart production and nods to '80s tropes.

Review: The latest release from the French label Zingiber Audio is simply called Split EP #001 and it features the label founder Cor100 (Thibaut Corsant) and the UK duo Acanalar. For the first side Cor100 gives us the super slick tribal builder 'Housetest 2'. The track takes through ups and downs that allow any DJ playing it to transfer perfectly to any direction you wish to take it. Nice groove! 'Vase De Chine' on the other hand, is an addictively sexy dancefloor heater. On the second side, 'PO144' is a deep chugging more minimalistic track with some nice melodic elements surrounding it. 'PO148' finishes the EP with a fun romp into a more tribal psychedelic zone. The label's 12th release to date brings us four classy tracks to enjoy.

Review: Bs As deep brings his latest work to Onwards Recordings, through which he transcends time and space through shuffly, serene deep / Chicago house motifs. All tracks here are swanging but soft, tending synaesthetically towards the blue-purple, occupying that thin nave between melancholy and uplift. The mid-section piano layers on A2 'Blow Cafe' are a real highlight, though they're second only to the seductive, addictive hip-house narrative delivered by vocalist Maxi Iborquiza.

Review: NOPAU's Rich Mahogany EP, released on Our Sin from Romania, is a journey into deep, minimal techno. The EP opens with 'Rich Mahogany', a fun and thumping techno track with tribal grooves. The next track, 'Inside Of Resyn', has a minimal tech sound reminiscent of the early 00s, with catchy melodies and cool sounds. 'Midnight At The Rio Grande' features a growling bassline, eerie atmospheres and a gritty groove with jangled percussion. The Rqz remix of 'Midnight At The Rio Grande' adds more snap to the track, giving it a tech house feel. Overall, a very solid release with a range of minimal electronic funk.

Review: Electric Ballroom welcome Thomas Schumacher and A.D.H.S. through their doors for a wicked collab in the mode of big room and progressive techno, with a side-tint of psytrance. Also avowing a Bulgarian folk music influence, 'Mirazh' and 'Aksijan' command epic dynamic pressurisations by way of gargantuan kick and FM stabs at the acme, and arpy rate-modulated buildups at the nadirs. 'Aksijan' is particularly harsh and forceful, owing to the pair's no-holds-barred approach to production.

Review: Pluto's Plan returns with an explosive four-track VA release, blending the expertise of label founders with fresh talent. Tourman ignites the Side-1 with 'Simulation,' a cosmic acid journey that pulsates with energy. Hatsvali follows suit with 'Cowboy Blasters,' a heavy dancefloor groover that showcases the label's signature sound. On the Side-2, Pluto's Plan co-founder Hudson delivers 'Ral9005,' a hypnotic tech house track that mesmerizes with its infectious rhythm. Review: White Dopes On Funk's Ne Plus Ultra EP makes a triumphant return with a 2024 reissue, reminding listeners of its UK rave classic status. Side-1 features the original version of 'Ne Plus Ultra,' a post-rave gem that transcends time with its techno-infused futuristic vibes. Its pulsating beats and captivating melodies create an awe-inspiring atmosphere on the dancefloor. On Side-2, the Magik Black Purse mix offers two distinct interpretations of the track. The first mix delves into a deeper groove, accentuating the pronounced acid line and delivering a raw, stripped-down version with less emphasis on melody. Meanwhile, the second mix retains the essence of the original but injects a breakbeat, adding an extra layer of dynamism and energy to the composition. 'Ne Plus Ultra' encapsulates the essence of 90s house and acid, offering a diverse range of sounds and textures that appeal to both nostalgic ravers and contemporary dance music enthusiasts.

Review: Melody Of The Soul continue to explore their melodically charged strain of minimal tech house on this fourth release on their label, which leads in with the prog-tinted seduction of 'Night Owls'. It's subtly epic, charged with sweeps of orchestration which tease at a big drop to come. 'Flame' has a slightly more intimate, heads-down approach, but it's no less detailed and dynamically produced. 'Igako' explores some pop touches in the context of a bigger room sound which still holds fast to the slick tech house framework and 'Ask The Universe' takes a more delicate approach with pattering percussion and melancholic piano which will set any set off on a sentimental trip.

He shows why he is healed in such high regard with this new three-track EP which kicks off with 'Hypnotic Grayscale,' a nice sleek and elegant minimal roller carefully detailed with aloof vocal sounds. 'Everything That Is Seen' is bright and subtly uplifting with wispy melodies adding a celestial touch and 'He Restored My Soul' then brings a little more otherworldly charm with its woozy pads and smeared vocals over floating and liquid rhythms.

Review: Locked In Records delivers a dynamic EP with The Amigos, showcasing the talents of Andy Somoza and Juaan across four stellar but very different techno tracks. On Side 1, Andy Somoza sets the tone with 'Disperso,' a homage to the Dutch techno sound of 1991, complete with a Technotronic-inspired bassline that infuses the track with playful energy. '5Am' follows suit with its heavy early 90s bassline and infectious groove, enhanced by retro vocal samples that add an extra layer of nostalgia. Flipping over to Side 2, Juaan takes the reins with 'Waita,' offering an eerie and atmospheric journey characterized by its late-night spooky melody. 'Mi Partner' rounds out the EP with a moodier, more melodic vibe, evoking a sense of chill-out ambiance while still maintaining its techno edge. Each side of this record offers its own unique flavour making this a very versatile record.

Review: Way Out West is Sonny Rollins' 1957 foray into jazz with a visually Western edge. Famous for its novel use of the 'strolling' technique - on which the esteemed American tenor saxophonist only solos with bass and drums, and drops the piano and guitar accompaniment - the sound produced is a uniquely up-close one. This Craft reissue captures that very same curious mood of Rollins' first adventure"out West", which we vicariously experience through this record.

Review: Blue Cheer are the cult choice for those who adore their seminal hard rock from the end of the 60s. They might not have reached the fame of Hendrix, Zeppelin and the like, but they were just as influential and daring in their approach. After the wild impact of their debut album Vincebus Eruptus they followed up in quick fashion with Outsideinside, which legend has it was so loud in places it had to be partially recorded outside. Whatever the case, there is more than enough psych-tinted blues rock brilliance to sink your teeth into on this 1968 album, which gets repressed in blue and shows the band at their scuzzy, squalling best on anti-classics like 'Sun Cycle'.

Review: Self-styled “semi-cosmic” and “way wonky” sorts Talking Drums – a mysterious Manchester-based crew dedicated to digging in pound bins in search of wayward classics to re-edit – return with a seventh collection of inspired reworks. The undoubted killer here is ‘Doner Summer’ (we chuckled, at least), a suitably cosmic chunk of Munich-made disco smothered in exotic Turkish instrumentation and trippy electronic noises. Over on the flip they deliver two takes on a re-imagined Algerian record, which they’ve cheekily named ‘Chaba Ranks’. There’s their original mix – proto-dancehall, Algerian style, with added analogue synthesizer insanity – and the largely vocal free, Balearic dub style ‘Chaba Skanks’.

It's feel-good house with nice dancing piano chords and a Balearic feel while 'Feel This' brings more summery chords and dusty drum loops for some open-air dancing fun. Vertigini then offers the 90s-tinged 'Box Of Pandora' and Mo'Cream closes out with the already classic 'I'm Sure.'

Review: In Outer Wilds, the player commands an elusive character in a quest to explore a solar system stuck in a 22-minute time loop that ends with the sun exploding. Tasked with ending the time loop, the player must navigate the alien wastes and ruins of the Nomai; with iam8bit's latest release of Andrew Prahlow's score, we can now put ourselves in said player character's shoes in finer cinematic detail. Prahlow's prolific score is the kind of hopeful, transcendent soundtrack that instantly readjusts your demeanor to a state of awe, reminding you just how vast the universe is. There's no better way to explore your inner self - proverbially roasting marshmallows alongside banjo strumming - than with this beautiful, poignant masterpiece of an album.

Review: Broadcast's Collected Demos collections span era-defining moments that dot the band's career. One of several new demo compilations to mark the band's sad closing knell, Distant Call is one such record, and comprises fourteen demos that were worked into finished productions appearing on Haha Sound, Tender Buttons and The Future Crayon. Though most of these are tenderer versions of these songs of yore, two cuts here - 'Come Back To Me' and 'Please Call To Book' - are formerly unheard originals, both of whose songwriting is credited to the band's own Trish Keenan, discovered shortly after her passing in 2011. Full of dusty deuteragonies and gothic, tape-hued waltzes, this is a rare, once-in-a-lifetime, stripped back snapshot of the band's cutting room floor.

Please Call To Book
Review: As the title suggests, Broadcast have collected all their demo recordings made between 2000 and 2006 and compiled them onto a single 14-track record. But that's not the main piece of news: sadly, this one marks the end of releasing from the band, tying the bow on an game-changing career to say the least. Many of these tender tidbits were worked into finished productions appearing on Haha Sound, Tender Buttons and The Future Crayon; it's an impressive flex to be able to flaunt your one-offs and pack them onto a single recorded finale. What's more, the connotations aroused by form - demos - as well as the sonic content of these gems plays nicely up to Broadcast's now well-established aesthetic, which is one for the ages, to be sure. The album also includes two songs discovered by James after bandmate Trish's passing: 'Come Back To Me' and 'Please Call To Book' which was her response to Broadcast's 2006 'Let's Write A Song' project, where fans were asked to submit lyrics on a postcard which would then be worked into a finished song.

It's Only Love That Gets You Through
Review: Sade's Lovers Rock marks a significant evolution in the band's sound and image. Departing from their signature luxuriance, the album embraces a sparser, knottier sound that beautifully balances past influences with contemporary trends. Adu's vocals, thick and low as ever, blend seamlessly into the breezy landscape of acoustic guitar, reggae bass, and simple percussion, creating an atmosphere of understated sensuality. The album's themes range from new love to motherhood to societal issues, showcasing Adu's lyrical prowess and her ability to navigate the complexities of human emotions. Lovers Rock also pays homage to the cultural influence of Caribbean Britishness, both in its title and its musical style, adding depth to Sade's sonic palette. While the album was released amidst a pop landscape dominated by shiny, slick productions, Sade remained true to their sound, avoiding obvious trends and opting for a more introspective approach. The album's impact reverberates through contemporary music and allowed Sade to maintain their unique identity and continue evolving with each release.

Review: Sade's first album in 10 year at the time, 2010's Soldier of Love reaffirmed their unique place in music. In an era dominated by bombastic pop acts, Sade's signature blend of smooth grooves and restrained emotion still stands out today. The album maintains the band's classic sound while subtly incorporating new elements, like the dub-esque snare crashes on 'Babyfather.' Sade's music, often characterized by its tasteful minimalism, captures moods with nuance and precision, as seen in the haunting piano motif of 'Morning Bird.' Singer Sade Adu's warm tones and controlled delivery add depth to the album's emotional landscape. Soldier of Love challenges listeners accustomed to immediate gratification, offering a tranquil yet emotionally rich listening experience.
Ultimately, it serves as a litmus test for listeners open to music that balances pleasure and introspection. With its soothing allure and timeless appeal, Sade once again proves why they remain unparalleled in their craft.

Review: Sade's 1992 album, Love Deluxe, immerses listeners in a luxurious blend of quiet storm, R&B, and jazz-pop, enveloping Sade Adu's evocative expressions of desire and heartache. Emerging from the mid-'80s UK jazz-pop scene, Sade perfected a sound that fused jazz, bossa nova, and soul with a modern, streamlined edge. From their beginnings as a fusion of former members of post-punk and new wave bands, Sade evolved into a cohesive unit, crafting seamless compositions that seamlessly merged soulful staircases of sound with liquid-crystal pop-funk. Love Deluxe stands as their most monolithic work, a sonic journey characterized by its ethereal fluidity. Sade's music became synonymous with cosmopolitan exotica, transporting listeners to a world of jet-setting luxury and romantic introspection. Adu's introspective lyricism explores themes of love and longing with a depth that transcends traditional romanticism, delving into the complexities of human emotion. The album's production, marked by programmed beats and a minimalist approach to instrumentation, aligns it with the emerging trip-hop genre, characterized by its fusion of lushness and dread. The precise interplay of drums, synth, and guitar creates an immaculate sonic landscape, perfectly complementing Adu's mesmerizing vocals. Each track on Love Deluxe"serves as a poignant exploration of love's multifaceted nature, from the relentless devotion depicted in 'No Ordinary Love' to the introspective character studies of 'Feel No Pain' and 'Pearls. Through Adu's evocative storytelling and the band's masterful instrumentation, Love Deluxe transcends mere romanticism, offering a profound meditation on the mysteries of love, birth, and death. It's an album that defies easy categorization, inviting listeners to lose themselves in its blissful abstraction and emotional depth.

Review: Ben Webster's At The Renaissance captures a spellbinding live performance recorded at The Renaissance in Hollywood on Oct 14, 1960. This reissue, part of the Contemporary Records Acoustic Sounds Series, celebrates the timeless brilliance of Webster's tenor saxophone artistry. Accompanied by a stellar ensemble including pianist Jimmy Rowles, guitarist Jim Hall, bassist Red Mitchell, and drummer Frank Butler, Webster delivers a captivating set that showcases his superior and creative form. The album's repertoire offers a delightful variety, from the heartfelt rendition of 'Georgia on My Mind' to the infectious energy of 'Ole Miss Blues.' Webster's rich, emotive tone and masterful improvisation shine throughout, cementing his status as one of the founding emperors of the jazz tenor saxophone. This reissue, mastered AAA by Bernie Grundman from the original analogue tapes and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, this edition ensures an exceptional listening experience. Review: The Greatest Love is a fourth studio album from London Grammar, their first since October 2021's Californian Soil and one that comes 11 years after their groundbreaking debut album If You Wait went double Platinum. The band say it is a celebration of artistic freedom and comes after a period of chance in which some of them have had children, they have toured the world and sold tree million albums, had two number one hits and picked dup accolades like the Ivor Novello award and BRIT nominations. It embodies newfound confidence and creative liberation amidst personal challenges and industry scrutiny, and features a boundary-pushing sound that blends electronica with pop.

Review: This album recorded by Tatum and Webster in 1956 came just prior to Tatum's passing less than two months later. Revered as a masterpiece, the dynamic interplay between Webster's blend of aggression and lyricism and Tatum's flamboyance and delicacy creates a captivating encounter, with Callendar and Douglass providing impeccable support. Reissued previously by Essential Jazz Classics, this new edition adds bonus tracks from a 1953 Tatum solo session and four numbers from a summit meeting between Webster and Teddy Wilson. The opener sets a languid tempo, diverging from the breakneck pace of many bebop jams, establishing the album's relaxed vibe. And even as later cuts quicken the pace, there's an underlying sense of ease that permeates throughout. Tatum's cascades of notes serve as ornamental accents rather than urgent directives, while Webster, despite the excess reverb of the era, focuses on melody.

Review: The Hyperdrive label is back with a third outing which once again offers up some exciting and forward-thinking new artists. Anderson's 'Sweet Psylow' kicks off with some psychedelic synth loops over crisp tech house drums that hark back to the 90s prog heyday. HearThuG's 'Back To The Future' is a darker sound with whistles, snappy snares and eerie chords and Luis Malon & Seb G then combine for the bouncing techno rhythms and acid-laced pads of 'Extasis Nebular.' Last but not least, Jamie Leather's 'Strange Commodities' is a surging cosmic techno trip with dynamic drums and perc and majestic leads. This is another fine release from this young label.

Six-voice analogue variable character desktop synthesiser
Notes: Supercritical Synthesizers introduces their first desktop instrument, Redshift 6 - six voice analogue Variable Character Synthesizer

Supermassively dense analogue oscillator combined with a chameleon analogue filter with versatile gain staging. Now sixfold.

Redshift 6 combines technology from the company's previous products, the Demon Core Oscillator and the Neutron Flux Filter. Each of the six voices features a DCO with analogue waveforms generated under digital control. The filter core is an analogue 4-pole state variable filter also digitally controlled to act like almost any classic vintage synthesizer filter and more. In addition to the oscillators and filters, Redshift 6 has all the features expected of a modern synth - plenty of modulators, flexible voice routing, multitimbrality, MPE, and DSP effects.

Redshift 6's idea is something that is wrapped in the moniker "Variable Character Synthesizer". Each voice's analogue path regarding tuning, gain staging, filter, and more is under strict digital control. Redshift 6 has as lush and warm sweet spot inspired by the analogue polysynth tradition, but it can also cover the full range from almost digitally sterile and clean to distorted misbehaviour and beyond. No modelling here - it's all analogue until the bypassable stereo DSP effects processor.

The oscillator, already road-tested in the Demon Core Oscillator eurorack module, is featured in each of the six voices. The oscillator has multiple tricks up its sleeve, each one wrapped as an Engine for the user to choose between. Traditional twin oscillator engines, supersaw engines, flanging phase sync engines, and transistor organ engines are all powerful modes in user-friendly ways that are easily controllable and modulatable.

Redshift 6's six voices can be configured in plenty of ways. Choose between true six-voice polyphony, classic vintage poly dual layer mode with 3+3 voices, six individual voices each with their own patch and physical output, or any combination of the above. Each of the six voices can also operate as a paraphonic voice with up to 16 note paraphony. Additionally, multiple filters can be chained by routing audio from one voice to another.

The form factor of Redshift 6 is a modern, compact desktop device with a 2.7-inch colour screen. Menu diving is reduced to a minimum, with quick navigation via the shortcut button grid. A selection of familiar synth controls are featured on the front panel. A macro mode is included with six user-assignable controls. The back panel features main audio outputs with a DSP effects processor and four auxiliary voice outputs.

One of the major design principles of Redshift 6 is to have a versatile and capable analogue platform and a flexible UI for new Engines, easily updateable via software updates.

Review: There's no fucking around with this record," says Nick Cave of his new album alongside the Bad Seeds. "When it hits, it hits. It lifts you. It moves you. I love that about it." And we do too. It makes a great return after a five-year break for the band and across its ten tunes it plays with ideas of both convention and experimentation. It is full of surprises an of course rich in emotion and the sort of mental imagery Cave has always excelled at next to offering up plenty of heartfelt narratives. Guests such as Colin Greenwood on bass and Luis Almau on nylon string guitar and acoustic guitar add extra layers to what is a fine return.

Recorded in 1955 for Prestige Records, this album features Davis alongside an extraordinary lineup of musicians, including John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones. Their synergy is palpable as they navigate through a series of wild compositions with virtuosity and innovation. Review: It's been a full five years since Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds released an original full-length LP. Their last was Ghosteen, the final of three albums to complete the triptych that also included Push The Sky Away (2013) and Skeleton Tree (2016). This makes Wild God something of a special one, marking the first time Cave and company have struck out on an isolable creative limb in over a decade. Unlike the heartfelt grief-stricken groundswells of the previous three albums, Wild God is an avowed 'deeply and joyously infectious' album that marks a return to Cave's reputable, searching, soul-stirring songwriting form; full of the same idiosyncrasies that formed the greatness of latter-day albums like Dig, Lazarus, Dig, albeit with a crazed edge that has perhaps never been heard before.

Review: Nick Cave & The Bad seeds present their first album in five years, Wild God, following 2019's Ghosteen. A testament to the band's recent spell of happiness, the stylistic and emotional complexity of Wild God is reflective of the complex emotional state a songwriter can find themselves in after a period of pain and tumult. It is indeed a "complicated record" (Cave's own words), with every cameo from David Fridmann to Jonny Greenwood in tow, conjuring up gothic romantic fantasies ("he flew through the city like a prehistoric bird" and "she died in a bedsit in 1993") and candidly heartfelt instrumentation, but with a kooky edge. Though the singles released so far err on the side of convention, our inside intel indicates the presence of an overall rock-genre-bending record elsewhere, owing to a happy period of reconnection and creative synergy experienced by the band.

Review: Spiritual jazz fans are going to rather excited about this new one from the hard working people at P-Vine over in Japan: Chicago saxophonist Prince Billy Marge Wright's finest work, 'Summer Love', is now arriving on its own 7" for the first time ever. It is previously lost material that showcases his next level sound though here featuring mainly keyboard instruments as opposed to his more usual saxophone, but that only makes it all the more uplifting. On the flipside is a remix that is just as rare so this one really is an essential record for your collection.

Review: P-Vine has got a couple of treasures up its sleeve for you here with a newly remastered reissue of The Mighty Ryeder's single 'Let There Be Peace'. This has never before been put out on its very own 45rpm and the original single is a much sought after and expensive gem, with the B-side featuring Muro aka King Of Diggin's 'Evil Vibrations', a tune best known as a sample source for De La Soul on their 'A Roller Skating Jam Named Saturdays'. Flip this new version over and you will find an edit of it that is just as compelling.

Review: Originally released in 1963 under the Contemporary Records label, The Cry! still stands tall as a hallmark of free jazz by saxophonists Prince Lasha and Sonny Simmons. The timeless album which is now reissued on the Craft label, also showcases the talents of Gary Peacock and Mark Proctor on bass, and Gene Stone on drums. This Acoustic Sounds Series edition boasts AAA lacquers cut from the original master tapes by Bernie Grundman, pressed onto 180-gram vinyl at QRP and housed in a tip-on jacket for a deluxe presentation, making it a fantastic-sounding record.

Review: Gesaffelstein's fourth album, GAMMA, marks a departure from his previous work, embracing camp over cool. With influences ranging from seventies electro-punk to synth-pop, the album is a riot of overdriven synth-pop and vintage rock'n'roll. Singer Yan Wagner's oily baritone adds depth, channeling Dave Gahan's toughness with a humorous twist. The album's eccentricity shines through in Wagner's deranged lyrics and unpredictable delivery, injecting humor and unpredictability into the mix. Tracks like 'The Urge' and 'Hysteria' showcase Gesaffelstein's knack for crafting sharp hooks and infectious grooves. Clocking in at concise lengths, each track contributes to the album's charm, focusing on thrusting hips and sharpened hooks rather than lofty concepts. GAMMA is a refreshing departure from Gesaffelstein's previous sound and a exciting new direction.

Review: Art of Tones is well renowned for his eclectic blend of deep house, disco, and jazz funk and it is all that which he blends together on a remix of SEK's 'Show Me The Power' to get this latest 12" from No Fuss off to a fine start. Deepmore then makes waves with the irresistible slink and jazzy melodies of 'Love You' while label regular Saison offers up 'Deliver You', which brings a blues-inspired vocal element and transforms it into a raw and authentic deep house gem. Austin Ato handles remix duties for this one and notches up the tempo to get things pumping on rich bass and lithe pads.

Expandable 8-part hybrid multi-timbral desktop synthesiser including 4 voice cards
Notes: The ISLA Instruments Caladan Is an expandable 8-part analogue/digital multi-timbral desktop synthesizer module boasting multiple synthesizer engines by way of voice cards. Sharing much of its DNA with Isla's S2400 desktop sampler and the Futuresonus Parva MPE Synthesizer, released in 2015.

Without any voice cards installed, the Caladan has its own internal digital synthesizer engine with playback capabilities of Soundfont (.sf2) and SFZ multisample formats, with the added benefit of being able to run a (possibly multiple) plugin based synthesizer (VST, LV2, CLAP formats). Isla's target for this is 32-Voices (subject to change).

Voice Cards

Caladan has internal slots for up-to 8 voice cards, accessible via an easy access 'trap door' underneath the unit. Said cards are able to be essentially any type of synthesizer, be that pure analogue, digital or a hybrid of both. The voice card API will be open sourced with development kits made available, allowing other designers and developers to create synthesizer cards for use in the Caladan.

At launch, an improved version of the original Parva voice card will be available, the specifications of which are as follows:

Oscillators
3 Digitally-controlled analogue oscillators per voice
Sawtooth, triangle, and PWM waveforms
Variable-width saw waves
Tunable +/- 5 octaves
Hard Syncable
Independent level controls
Envelopes
4 4-stage (ADSR) envelopes per voice
Exponential curves for punchy attack and natural decay
Linear mode also available
Loopable envelopes
Routable to >40 destinations
