A Love Letter to the Analogue Monosynth:

A modern, semi-modular synthesiser inspired by the instruments designed by our heroes. The Pittsburgh Modular Microvolt 3900 takes a new approach to building a raw, analogue monosynth with a host of unconventional and inspirational features. Patch cables optional.

Creative Synthesis Design:

With our new temperature stabilized, dual VCA oscillator core, the analogue audio engine of the Microvolt 3900 feeds a set of timbral waveshapers crafted for deep harmonic shaping, enabling a layer of additive synthesis alongside the classic subtractive synthesis waveforms. Waveforms are fed into our binary filter, a custom state variable filter architecture offering near infinite resonance with or without self-oscillation. Sonically this creates a juicy, fluid filter adding depth and energy to the oscillator that can scream if you ask it to.

The heart of the Microvolt 3900's sound is our new dynamic VCA technology. Where a standard VCA works in two dimensions, the Microvolt 3900 dynamic VCA technology adds a third dimension. As the dynamic VCA closes, decreasing the amplitude, harmonics are removed from the source. As the dynamic VCA opens, the harmonics are restored. This mimics the behaviour of sounds in nature. The result is a lively, organic sounding synthesiser full of energy. The design of the dynamic VCA also allows the instrument to be plucked or struck, opening up another set of percussive musical possibilities.

Open Electronic Experimentation:

The Microvolt 3900 is patched internally and does not require patch cables to dial in a wide variety of unique and powerful sounds. For deeper experimentation, the Microvolt 3900 includes a 39-point Eurorack format friendly 1/8" jack patchbay for complete signal routing control over a full complement of audio and modulation options. A four-stage envelope generator, multi-purpose function generator, wide range LFO, chaotic random source, arpeggiator, sequencer, and MIDI to CV control are also available to create dynamic sounds unique to the Microvolt 3900.

Includes:

- 5 Nazca Audio brand patch cables
- MIDI connector cable
- Universal DC power adapter

Hand-stained all hardwood eurorack synth module enclosure with power - 360HP of space
Notes: ***POWER SET FOR EU AND AUSTRALIA 220-230V:
The Pittsburgh Modular Structure 208 and Structure 360 eurorack enclosures use a switching power supply that needs manually set to the correct AC input voltage. The internal switch has already be properly set for 220-230 VAC. This setting works for the EU and Australia or other countries that use 220-230 VAC power.
For use in countries that use 100-120 VAC power, such as North America and Japan, the switch inside the case on the AC/DC regulator needs to be switched to the left. The switch is marked with a Yellow sticker printed with "AC input voltage can be selected by switch. Check input voltage avoiding damage before power on." The switch is located on the side of the enclosure below the arrow.

Maximum Power for a New Generation -

Beautifully stained hardwood triple row, 360hp powered eurorack travel case with lid. A huge case to house a monster synth. Features include a professional, heavy duty, internal power supply designed to exceed the needs of the most demanding analog and digital eurorack systems.

Everything is New:
With years of research and two case lines under our belt, we decided to start over and produce a line of cases for the next generation of eurorack synthesizers. The eurorack modular ecosystem is expanding faster than ever and manufacturers are constantly pushing eurorack cases and power supplies to the limits. What started as a power supply designed to drive primarily analog synthesizers has transformed into a supply that needs to simultaneously meet the unique demands of sensitive analog circuitry, power hungry digital processors, and ground sensitive user interface modules.

We started with what matters most. Clean power. A lot of it. Up to 3x the amount of clean power available in cases from other brands. Next we turned our focus to the enclosure itself and there was only one goal. Make the case stronger. Our engineers tested countless combinations utilizing different types of wood, joints, adhesives, assembly techniques, and hardware to ensure that Structure cases are as durable as they are beautiful.

With a clean and gorgeous design that promotes creative exploration, the Structure enclosures are our most robust and refined case line yet. With massive amounts of both room and clean power, you can reach completely new heights in your creative performances.

Dynamic impulse filter synth module in Eurorack format - 8HP wide
Notes: A New Species of Lowpass Gate:
Organic and percussive, the Dynamic Impulse Filter utilizes an entirely new, all analog design to replicate the impact transients and vibrancy of a percussion hit. The result is a versatile filter module that sounds natural and energetic. The Dynamic Impulse Filter works in one of three modes: resonant lowpass filter, high quality VCA, and a combined lowpass gate mode that manages both timbre and loudness at the same time. The core of the filter uses a Sallen-Key topology to produce a smooth two pole filter that will self-oscillate at high resonance settings.

We Love Vactrols Too...
The dynamics response control is the key. Historically, lowpass gates have used a light dependent resistor called a vactrol to impart a magical, organic response onto a sound. This unique signature has given the vactrol an almost mythical status in the synth community. However, the venerable vactrol is not without its problems. Vactrol response times can vary wildly, creating sonic differences from module to module that cannot be adjusted without replacing the vactrol. The fruit of over two years of research and development, the Dynamic Impulse Filter evolves the lowpass gate into the present by retaining the sonic characteristics we love about vactrols while solving all the problems that come with it. The unique design of the Dynamic Impulse Filter replaces the vactrol with a modern analog circuit created to replicate and expand on the signature sound of the vactrol. The response time of the Dynamic Impulse Filter is not static like a vactrol; instead it is tuneable allowing the response of the module to adapt to any musical context.

Used as a filter, the Dynamic Impulse Filter offers a wide sonic palate with smooth frequency sweeps and aggressive resonance. The Dynamics Response control is an essential part of the filter's unique ability to create rich, tuneable sounds. The impulse trigger input and the exclusive Dynamics Response control allow the module to add an organic, percussive quality to any sound or become a versatile analog drum generator. The Dynamic Impulse Filter will uniquely emulate everything from snappy deep kicks, woody toms, and expressive hand drums, to open up a new world of electronic percussive sounds.

Shared Response:
The Response output of the Dynamic Impulse Filter can be used to control other modules that utilize vactrols. The Response output superimposes the variable Dynamics Response onto vactrol based modules allowing the response of a static vactrol to become adjustable. This opens a range of new possibilities for other modules that use vactrols.

Dynamic Impulse Filter Controls:
- Dynamics Response Knob - Sets the decay time related to the impulse gate input and dynamic CV input.
- Dynamics Knob - In filter mode, the dynamics knob controls the centre frequency of the filter. In VCA mode, the dynamics knob controls the pass through signal level. In lowpass gate mode, the dynamics knob controls both the centre frequency of the filter and the pass through signal level.
- Dynamics CV Knob - Attenuates the incoming dynamics cv signal.
- Filter Mode Resonance Knob - Only active in filter mode, the filter mode resonance knob controls the amount of resonance.
- Mode Switch - Switch between the 3 module modes. VCA position (up) enables VCA mode, both position (centre) enables lowpass gate mode, and filter position (down) enables low pass filter mode.
- Input Jack - Audio signal input.
- Dynamics CV In Jack - CV input used to modulate the dynamics amount.
- Response Out Jack - Dynamics response CV output. This output if the dynamics response circuit is optimized to control the vactrol response of modules utilizing vactrols. It is designed to be patched into a CV input. The response out jack will respond like a gate when used with non-vactrol modules.
- Impulse Gate In Jack - Gate or trigger input used to strike the vactrol and quickly modulate the dynamics of the module.
- Out Jack - Audio signal output.

Voltage controlled analog waveform decimator effects module - 8HP wide
Notes: The Crush is an audio destroyer; a voltage controlled, all analog sound decimator. A sonic laser designed to shatter waveforms into a million pieces. The sound of the Crush module is defined by three parameters, Sample Rate, Interpolation, and Mix. Sample Rate assigns the periodic voltage sample timing, breaking down an audio source into ever-larger static chunks. The Interpolate switch tries to rebuild the original waveform from the remaining pieces imprinting another layer of errors and unique artifacts on the output. The results are crushing.

The Crush wrecks audio without ever sounding harsh or thin. Compared to a digital bit crusher, the analog Crush sounds full and warm. Taking advantage of unlimited bit and sample rate resolutions, the Crush avoids lo-fi digital results by smoothly downsampling at infinite resolution.

An integrated voltage controlled mix circuit allows the perfect amount of destruction to be added to the audio. Manually set the mix or use a control voltage to sweep from squeaky clean to completely crushed.

CRUSH CONTROLS:
Sample Rate Control - Sample rate control.

Sample Rate CV In Control - Sample Rate CV input jack attenuator.

Interpolate/Step Mode Switch - Step mode offers true downsampling. Interpolate mode attempts to smooth the downsampled waveform.

Output Mix Control - Controls the signal mix of the Mix Out.

Mix CV In Control - Mix CV input jack attenuator.

Crush Patch Points:
SR CV IN - CV input modulates the Sample Rate.
MIX CV IN - CV input modulates the Output Mix.
INPUT - Waveform Input.
CRUSH OUT - Processed waveform output.
OUTPUT - Mixed waveform output

Cascading analogue waveform sculpting oscillator - 12HP
Notes: True analog innovation, the Lifeforms Primary Oscillator was designed to stretch the boundaries of pure sonic sculpting. The Primary Oscillator uses unique cascading waveform processing to create increasingly complex, fully modulatable waveforms. Through the use of multiple interwoven waveshapers, a simple waveform can quickly mutate into something deeply dynamic and harmonically rich.

Custom waveshapers include a harmonic sine wave; a sine processed to add just enough harmonics to give a resonant filter something to dig into. Next, the included blade wave processor is an evolution of our custom modulation circuit, creating modulatable ramp and pulse waves. The fragments generator is an analog downsampler capable of crushing waveforms to dust without ever sounding thin or cold. Also included, the timbre wave folder enables deep spectral change by repeatedly folding the waveform in on itself until the original waveform is unrecognizable.

The Primary Oscillator is not meant to be a clean oscillator that produces perfect waveforms. Controlled signal interactions and the unique set of cascading waveshapers at the heart of the Primary Oscillator allow for a uniquely musical approach to experimenting with a wide array of interesting sounds. Instead of relying only on the standard set of simple wave shapes, the Primary Oscillator builds on the basics to offer a powerful palate of infinitely variable waveforms. No other analog oscillator offers such a creative and deep set of audio processing tools.

Packed with deep signal routing options and high quality preamps, the System Interface is a flexible audio hub, perfect for both studio and live performance. Squeezed into 24hp.

The System Interface is a six channel mixer with three channels featuring high quality preamps and stereo panning. Signal routing options include a post level auxiliary send with stereo aux return, and independent assignable bus and main mix sends. Headphone output can be assigned to the main mix, bus, or both.

Preamps on channels 1, 2, and 3 offer 15x of clean gain with a unique soft clipping overdrive circuit. They are perfect to raise the level of external, line level gear to modular levels or to dirty up an already modular level signal. Channel 1 has a dedicated output designed to allow it to function as an input for external sources without hogging the bus or aux send.

Because most mixes do not require each channel to have a full complement of features, channel 4, 5, and 6 share auxiliary, bus, and main mix controls allowing for maximum channels within a small footprint.

Three independent signal paths open the mixer up to complex routing possibilities. The auxiliary send can be used as an effects send or alternative mix while the bus is used to cue up sounds for live performance or to split the mixer channels into 2 independent mixers. The possibilities are deep.

3 separate Eurorack modules housed together in a purpose-built, handmade enclosure
Notes: The Voltage Research Laboratory is a completely different analogue synthesiser where every function of the instrument has been influenced by the behaviours and systems of the natural world. Wildly experimental and extremely deep, the Voltage Research Laboratory is a sonic playground created to explore the natural systems and lesser known fringes of analogue synthesis.

The Voltage Research Laboratory is 100% eurorack modular format compatible and is comprised of 3 separate eurorack modules housed together in a purpose-built, handmade eurorack enclosure. More than a collection of tools and functions, it is a unique modular synthesiser designed to reward deep experimentation and encourage the creation of unique sonic systems.

The unique sound palette of the Lifeforms Voltage Lab originates with a complex oscillator pair that utilizes a wide range of shaping and manipulation options to move away from basic geometric shapes to more harmonically rich tones. A custom wave folder with enhanced waveform warping, linear FM, amplitude modulation, ring modulation, waveform cycling, hard sync, and more are available for extreme sonic research.

A set of multi-function generators work as interactive voltage processing systems to create and modify complex control voltages. The function generators act as voltage controllable envelopes, LFOs, slew generators, and more to produce evolving control signals. Voltage controllable parameters and multiple unison modes create complex and intertwined modulation systems through time.

Twin dynamics controllers pull everything together. A unique circuit expanding on the classic low pass gate, the dynamics controller with variable response adds an organic depth to the sound of the Lifeforms Voltage Lab by simulating the natural behaviour of sound. The multi-mode signal processor features a 12db resonant filter, VCA, and percussive low pass gate modes.

Sound interacts with the world around it. The Voltage Lab uses analogue delay to simulate this interaction and create an artificial sense of time and space. Manipulation of delay time and feedback add depth and warmth through reverb, chorus, flanging, Doppler, slap back, and echo type effects.

Chaos is everywhere. Random gates and control voltages spark uncontrolled reactions, disrupt systems, and generate ideas. The Voltage Lab utilizes noise, stepped random CV, a pseudo-random sequence generator, pitched random CV, pitched random sequences, and random gates to add multiple levels of unpredictability to any patch.

Intuitive and inspiring, the Lifeforms Touch Controller replaces the creative restrictions of a traditional chromatic keyboard with a set of fully configurable multi-dimensional touch pads. A duophonic touch controller that utilizes two sets of five touch pads to offer a flexible and interactive performance surface. Performances can be interpreted with a unique combination of monophonic and duophonic responses. The channel animator is available to quickly generate complex sequences or glitchy chaos. Intuitive and inspiring, the Lifeforms Touch Controller is the perfect launchpad for an experimental journey.

A Voltage Research Laboratory exclusive, the Utility module adds a few welcome features to round out the functionality of the instrument. A unity gain signal mixer/splitter along with stereo headphone and line outputs.

A beautiful 96hp eurorack enclosure designed with the warmth of walnut and the strength of steel. The Research Console eurorack format modular case pairs classic desktop synthesiser ergonomics with a modern eurorack form factor and clean, reliable power supply.

Designed to integrate into any size eurorack system, simply patch 4 audio signals through the integrated high quality VCAs to create a set of unique percussion voices. Eurorack drum programming has come to life.

Anything is a Drum:
Traditionally, patching up a modular drum kit was constrained by the amount of envelope and VCA modules in a system, restricting the number and complexity of percussion voices in most systems. Another option was to use dedicated drum modules that offer a limited sonic palate and few modulation options. The Lifeforms Percussion Sequencer breaks through these barriers by including a percussion tuned analog envelope and VCA on each channel. Patching anything from a basic sine wave to heavily modulated and processed noise sources through the Lifeforms Percussion Sequencer will quickly create a distinctive drum kit that takes full sonic advantage of the unique synthesis options available in any system.

The Mind of a Modern Drum Machine:
At the heart of the module is a 4 channel, 32 step beat sequencer designed for live performance. Seamlessly move around the module tweaking patterns and effects without ever stopping the beat. Create and store up to 32 sequences using live performance or step mode recording with pattern lengths varying from 1 to 32 steps. Patterns can be copy and pasted to easily create multiple versions of a beat. The sequencer is driven by an internal tap tempo or external clock source. A dedicated clock in/out jack syncs the sequencer with other modules.

Four Integrated Analog Envelopes and VCAs:
Instead of limiting the drums to a few onboard voices or lo-fi samples, the Lifeforms Percussion Sequencer uses an analog envelope and VCA built into each channel to shape any audio source into a percussive instrument. The envelopes are designed with a razor sharp attack and variable decay/release allowing for maximum control over the output of each channel. The envelopes can also be used externally. A short envelope creates a trigger while longer envelopes can be used as a modulation source for oscillators, filters, or anything at all.

6 Adjustable Pattern Effects:
The Lifeforms Percussion Sequencer includes 6 unique pattern effects to expand the musical possibilities of traditional grid style beat programming. Effects include everything from swing and beat shifters to glitch and generative algorithms designed to manipulate the sequencer pattern. Each channel can run a unique instance of one pattern effect at a time. A master pattern effect channel is also available that affects all 4 channels of the sequencer. The combination of the channel effect and the master effect allows for up to two effects at a time on each channel. Each effect has one parameter that can be adjusted to dial in the perfect response.

- Shift Effect
Delays the trigger output of a channel by small divisions of the tempo. Use this effect to create half-step or stutter-step drum triggers. Effect knob controls the amount of channel shift. The range of shift is 1/8th to 7/8ths of a beat.

- Glitch Effect
Probability based glitch effect that creates chaotic gates based on a cascading chance algorithm. The resulting patterns are always in sync with some division of the clock, allowing for stuttering but not disjointed patterns. The probability is set using the effect knob. The range of the glitch effect is minimal to absolute chaos.

- Density Effect
Sets the number and timing of triggers created for each active step. The result can be anything from a doubling of the trigger to a rolling effect. The effect knob controls the trigger density.

- Morph Effect
Create evolving patterns. The morph effect is a probability based algorithm that modifies an existing pattern by adding or removing active steps. The effect knob sets the probability that the pattern will morph.

- Swing Effect
A classic drum machine effect meant to mimic the feel of a real drummer by shifting the timing of every other step. The effect knob controls the amount of swing.

- Add/Drop Effect
Temporarily add or drop steps from a pattern. The results are similar to the morph effect but changes to the pattern are not compounded as the pattern plays allowing the resulting pattern to stay anchored to the original sequence. The effect knob sets the probability that a step will be modified.

The Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers Lifeforms SV-1 is a complete dual oscillator synthesizer, designed to be the core of your eurorack modular system. Building on the sound and legacy of our celebrated Waveforms oscillator, the SV-1 module features two full-range independent analog oscillators; sound sources that are perfect for dynamic and inspired performances. In addition to these two high-performance oscillators, we stuffed the SV-1 with a perfectly curated set of modular synthesis tools including dual, chained mixers, a plucky, four stage envelope generator, and of course, our legendary analog state-variable filter.

The Lifeforms SV-1 is a synthesizer powerhouse, providing absolutely everything you need to create gigantic and iconic synth sounds: roaring bass, shimmering leads, lush pads and warm drones are only a few knob turns away. Instantly, out of the box, a rich feature set with a fluid, easy to understand interface empowers you to create vibrant, thick tones. Modulation and Tools sections fill out the analog SV-1 modulation capabilities with a triangle and square LFO, two sub-octave oscillators chained to the main oscillator, and noise with sample & hold.

Your Sound, Your Way:
Pre-patched under the hood, patch cables are not necessary to get started. But as soon as you begin patching, you will feel the power provided by the 53 patch points and 21 knobs. By breaking each feature of the synthesizer out with patch cables, a tremendous amount of flexibility and control emerges to patch up any sound your imagination can dream up. All the tried and true analog classics are there at your disposal: sine, sawtooth, triangle and square. In addition, our exclusive and powerful blade wave on Oscillator 1 adds a unique weapon to your sonic arsenal. Deep modulation options award you complex control of nearly every function of the SV-1.

A Team Player:
We've designed the Lifeforms SV-1 to be the perfect centerpiece of any eurorack synthesizer regardless of size. In a smaller system, the SV-1 provides a wide variety of synthesis options through a hefty set of synthesis tools. Combined with a larger collection of modules, you can unlock never-before-heard expressiveness and unparalleled control over the rich feature set of the SV-1. Synthesiser voice module with unique sound palette - 48HP
Notes: The Lifeforms Voltage Lab module is a completely different type of analogue synthesizer, where every function of the instrument has been influenced by the behaviours and systems of the natural world. Wildly experimental and extremely deep, the Lifeforms Voltage Lab module is a sonic playground created to explore the natural systems and lesser known fringes of analogue synthesis. The Voltage Lab module is more than a simple collection of tools and functions, it is a unique modular synthesizer designed to reward deep experimentation and encourage the creation of unique sonic systems.

Generation:
The unique sound palette of the Lifeforms Voltage Lab originates with a complex oscillator pair that utilizes a wide range of shaping and manipulation options to move away from basic geometric shapes to more harmonically rich tones. A custom wave folder with enhanced waveform warping, linear FM, amplitude modulation, ring modulation, waveform cycling, hard sync, and more are available for extreme sonic research.

Manipulation:
A set of multi-function generators work as interactive voltage processing systems to create and modify complex control voltages. The function generators act as voltage controllable envelopes, LFOs, slew generators, and more to produce evolving control signals.

Interaction:
Twin dynamics controllers pull everything together. A unique circuit expanding on the classic low pass gate, the dynamics controller with variable response adds an organic depth to the sound of the Lifeforms Voltage Lab by simulating the natural behaviour of sound. The multi-mode signal processor features a 12db resonant filter, VCA, and percussive low pass gate modes.

Dimensional:
Sound interacts with the world around it. The Voltage Lab uses analogue delay to simulate this interaction and create an artificial sense of time and space. Manipulation of delay time and feedback add depth and warmth through reverb, chorus, flanging, Doppler, slap back, and echo type effects.

Unstable Systems:
Chaos is everywhere. Random gates and control voltages spark uncontrolled reactions, disrupt systems, and generate ideas. The Voltage Lab utilizes noise, stepped random CV, a pseudo-random sequence generator, pitched random CV, pitched random sequences, and random gates to add multiple levels of unpredictability to any patch.

Flexible six channel audio hub in Eurorack format
Notes: Packed with deep signal routing options and high quality preamps, the System Interface is a flexible audio hub, perfect for both studio and live performance.
