Review: ** RANDOMER REPRESS ** Rohan of Randomer's return to the Hemlock label is heralded with Bring/Curtains, a club ready 12" described amusingly as "two iceberg sized hunks of pure stereo freeze". Randomer's been relatively busy this year, issuing a Surgeon approved white label and inaugurating Turbo's Sex Tags aping Warehouse series but it's great to see him back on Untold's Hemlock label for whom Randomer's done some of his best work. "Bring" will be familiar to those who regularly listen to Hessle Audio's Rinse FM show, first making a recorded appearance way back in May, demonstrates an icier, slightly deranged side to Randomer that's not been seen before. Accompanying it is "Curtains" which is blessed with the following wonderful description from the Hemlock press office; "A slo-mo steppers cut that's darker and sparser than George Osborne's mailbox on Valentines. Cold."

Review: Skee Mask, who only recently was found out to be called Bryan Muller, comes through with his second LP to date, making a wonderful follow-up to 2016's Shred. Compro is, ironically, comprised of a much more explorative palette of sounds, with many corners of the album veering off into otherworldly ambient, often through a striking new-age sensibility. The most impressive element of this album is its flow and evolution across its 12 tracks, sounding a lot more like one single-minded thought rather than a collection of disparate dance-not-dance tunes. The quality of the recording is noticeable, too, with tracks like "Rev8617" or "Via Sub Mids" sounding professional, both in vision and style. Through an intricate collage of breaks, samples, polyphonies, and subtle electronic manipulations, Skee Mask has truly mastered his own art, and is giving a new direction to the wider 'UK rave' sound. BIG.

Review: The introduction of the new Background Rimini label brings immense pleasure to its creators. The label's first release features the emerging Italian talent, Paolo Mosca, who has already made a name for himself with his productions on respected labels like Slow Life. With four tracks filled with psychedelic and trancey vibes, Paolo showcases his skillful production techniques and ability to craft emotionally charged music. Listeners can expect to embark on a journey as they immerse themselves in Mosca's captivating soundscape. Each track is a gateway to a world of magic, taking listeners on an otherworldly experience that will leave a lasting impression.

Stacktrace - "Heal" (5:49)
Review: Egregore Collective's second outing is another serious one that brings together five specialists from the world of deep dub music. Another Channel opens and plunges into a cavernous oceanic abyss with 'East Slope Dub' before Mantsche's 'Unknown Dub Story' (feat Bishop) has rippling chords that disappear to an infinite horizon while the paddy drums churn slowly below. There's an authentic dub feel to the endlessly wide open spaces of Masis's 'Mount Zio' and the flip brings more dark but delightful dub from Stefan Dubs and Stacktrace.

Dub02 (6:05)
Review: The Depth Over Distance label's doddub series is back with a second release and this one puts David at the controls. It's proper underground tackle that comes on limited, hand-stamped 12" with three timeless dub techno cuts. 'Astral' opens up with a hurried sense of rhythm thanks to the way the kicks lean into the breeze and the loopy synths almost fall over themselves up top. '0001' is an ice-cold autumn meditation at the shores of a frozen lake and 'Dub02' hints at a shift of gears with more bold drums and rising synths edging you to go harder. This is serious business for serious basements only.

Magic Orchestra (PAS Vortex remix) (8:18)
Review: Strap in for this one from B Sides because it is a high-octane techno ride that is unrelenting and kinda old school. 'Magic Orchestra' (PAS live Jack edit) comes first and features hamming drums, cut-up synth stabs and a sense of cantering drum funk that gets you off your feet and keeps you there. On the flip is a PAS Vortex remix that is much more stripped back and dialed into a tunneling techno vision of smooth rolling drums and serene synth work peeling off the atmospheric groove.

The Ceremony (5:02)
Review: Making his Blueprint debut last year with 'Neutrino EP', Kr!z returns with a glistening follow up EP, 'Revelation'. Having been at the forefront of techno for over a decade, known for his sound palette fusing hypnotic touches with an unbridled energy, Kr!z is continuing the sonic tradition set out by icons such as Jeff Mills, Steve Rachmand and James Ruskin. The opening track of this succinct four-track EP, 'Tidal Wave', washes over us in a relentless series of expansive synthlines and circling rhythms. Opening into dizzying hypnotism, 'Evil Eye' has a breakdown like no other - for this, Kr!z momentarily pulls everything back, reducing the track down to a skeletal structure, before gradually bringing in only the necessary components. A release that solidifies Kr!z's status as a keyplayer in contemporary techno.

Review: The fourth release in the 49North catalogue, Duncan Forbes along with remixers, DMX Krew and Ciel, delivers a golden three-track EP journeying through different iterations of the original 'Santa Cruz Roller Coaster' - an exhilarating, visceral and dance-ready breakbeat offering. Kicking off remix duties we have the genius of DMX Krew who, after allowing listeners a momentary pause while they rest in blurred-out, blissful atmospheres, throw us forcefully into the heat of the track, where incisive, snarling electro-funk takes the reigns. Next up, Toronto's fearless Ciel signs off the EP with a perfectly juxtaposing contribution brimming with suspense. A lesson in exercising restraint and precision, Ciel's production style impresses us once again. A dynamic and inventive contribution to the 49North journey, we can't wait for what's next.

Review: We've extensively covered the work of Greek electronic music project Neural Network for a long time now, thanks to their compelling fusion of experimental techno and industrial music with themes of malevolent AI and/or cyborg takeover. Mostly active during the 1990s, the trio were instrumental in bringing robotic ideas to EU techno. This reissue of 'Cybernetics' is a big curio, with four new alternate takes on classic neuromantic cuts including 'Authentic' and 'Mechanic'. For those who like to sprinkle a bit of dystopianism into their DJ sets, this EP littered with sinister vocal samples scraped from future-facing TV documentaries abut cyborgs.

Review: LOIF does a fine job of exploring a wide range of genres on this new EP for fast-rising Aussie label Animalia. Elements of techno, electro, bass, breaks and psychedelia are all melted together in the murky underwater world of this Melbourne producer. His tunes are a stylish mix of grooves that make you move and sonic details that intrigue as they drift by - they have the quality of alien life forms or bacteria that glow and scuttle about. Sometimes a weird vocals sample bleeds into ear short, at others it's purely abstract techno rhythms. Either way, this is fresh.

Review: House music mainstay Jimi Jules finds himself on DJ Tennis's revered Life And Death for a magical four-track exploration of left of centre electronic rhythms. A freaky vocal drone defines the spangled rhythms of 'Free Bird' with its whimsical chords adding extra fun. 'Lil Dirty' (feat Lil dirty) is a little dirty indeed - the old school scratching, filthy bass and naughty synth leads are all sure to bring some grit and grime to the club while 'Speed Meditation' is a perfectly stripped back rhythm made with freaky sound designs. 'Touched By Silence' closes out with another innovative rhythm and plenty more unusual sounds.

Review: Innershades pays tribute to classic dance music sounds on 'Heritage Vol. 1', infusing his tech and progressive productions with distinct sounds rather than merely emulating them. Monolithic drum sequences and menacing melodies run throughout the EP. 'This Is Belgium' features a clear-cut rhythm structure that allows the bassline to glide against SH-101 leads, while 'Eternal Voices' employs a 303 to create chaos and the energetic 'Rave Signal' combines ever-modulating leads, silky string layers and solid bass. The EP showcases Innershades's contemporary palette and pays respect to the new beat genre.

Review: A true exponent of the modern Dutch techno sound, Dimi Angelis has a fiercely formidable approach which is purpose-built for the sharp end of the night. His second EP for TH Tar Hollow results in some industrial strength clangers and bangers with all the 909 flaring a true techno head could wish for. 'Purify' in particular has a stern, drum-focused demeanour punctuated by metallic, loopy clangs which will send the right kind of dancer into blissful oblivion. The repetitive pummel into submission continues apace on the quick and cranky 'Drone Rider', as Angelis proves himself to be at the top of the game when it comes to hard and fast techno for the edgier kind of rave.

Review: Ignez is a regular on the Ghent label Token and now returns home with another textural techno outing filled with well-designed open spaces that help draw you in. The rather minimalist title track 'Aventurine' kick off with slick rolling drums and only the most deft synth details peeling off the groove next to more edgy and occasional stabs and whispered vocals. It's atmospheric stuff where 'Seraphic' is more eerie and paranoid in its synth sounds. 'Verdant' is more direct and visceral with its lashing lines and hard-edge drums and 'Cure' is a dubbed-out quick-stepper.

Review: Upstairs Asylum Recordings is one of the many seminal Detroit labels run by local legend Norm Talley. It's right in the middle of a busy run right now with no fewer superb run with three new EPs all dropping in quick succession. This one is a split EP with US duo Solid Gold Playaz taking care of the a-side. As always with this pair, their sounds are deep and dusty house with exquisite melodies tugging at the heart. On the flip, Gari Romalis steps up with the slick percussive skip of 'Detroit After Dark' then 'Panties' from Brian Neal brings jacked up analogue groves that lean into techno with a big fat bassline.

Where all the souls unite, drifting as one, dancing into the night." 063 features a bunch of truly energetic grooves; whether it's the euphoric trance of 'Andromeda' or the hypnotising tribal techno journey of 'Boreale', through to the loved-up bliss of 'Venus' or the progressive breaks of 'Chimera' - which makes the perfect track to drop at sunrise.

That's what he does here as he looks to Motor City creatives in the young King Milo, Tayloe and old friend John F.M. He kicks off in solo mode with some signature stripped back house futurism on 'Tongue Pecker' before 'Pain' is a high speed and sleazy ghetto bumper. The standout is 'I Love Your Girl Friend' (feat John FM) with its heart aching vocal, gorgeous piano chords and deep, dusty drum bumps. A real classic in the making which is followed by another achingly beautiful mix of soulful vocals and grotty lo-fi synth and drums on 'Some Good Loving' (feat Tayloe).

Tresor's extended focus on reissuing old Drexciya and Drexciya-related projects continues here with this version of Shifted Phases' 'The Cosmic Memoirs Of The Late Great Rupert J Rosinthrope'. A short-lived alias of Drexciya's beloved James Stinson, Shifted Phases' only LP here is one of few affiliated projects that has remained out of print ever since its rather low-key release in 2002. Wildly popular despite it, the music heard on the album is undeniable early electro, locking in a characteristically frank, almost meek, yet astro-nautical electro sound. Scratchy crud and sonar feedback beeps extend to the deepest sonic reaches on this one; you better salvage it from the abyssal waters of history (by copping it), and quick.

Nicolas Vogler - "Lost In Paradiso" (5:41)
Hurdslenk - "Runabout" (5:16)
Ruben Ganev - "Scattered" (6:33)
Review: The Reclaim Your City series is a commendable effort by the Heimat label to develop a 'world literature' of techno, aiming to move outward from its usual Eurocentrism and into a truly horizontal, transnational release approach. This time, the focus is on four emerging talents from different countries: Marcal from Brazil, Nicolas Vogler from Argentina, Hurdslenk from Germany and Ruben Ganev from Bulgaria. The diverse repertoire here clearly lends to the series' quality: Marcal's opener 'Magic Equation' is a cinematic, leadbeaten string mover, while Hurdslenk's 'Runabout' is equally gritty; all tracks seem to emphasise the natural magic that wafts off the texture of its beats, rather than adding too much additional instrumentation.

Review: Zoe McPherson's Pitch Blender is something of a mind-bender to say the least. As ever, it fuses crossrhythms with avant-garde soundzones, this time for what might be describable as the bleakest exploration of her sound yet. Adhering to the synthesist and live artist's usual commitment to dance music without a predictable pulse, McPherson's sound is increasingly ethereal and gritty at the same time, pads, vocals and cruds combining to form an elegant haze. This album is certainly not for the faint of heart, as we're plunged into ultra-compressed, limitless walls of rhythmic noise from the jump, with tracks from 'On Fire' to 'Unidentified Objects' instantly matter-beaming us to an alternate hell of dissociative samples and audio-magick. That shouldn't deter the best kind of listener though, and ultimately, the only kind of listener McPherson is interested in; the curious, fearless kind.

Review: Ultradyne has been called a 'fundamentalist' techno artist, and while this is a term we've hardly come across to describe much techno before, we think we get the gist with this new release, Nativist. The five-tracks on this banger-filled 12" tend towards the novelty moods of early electro, with 'Native Serenade' emitting all manner of window-wiping, slippery acid sounds, and the bleepific 'What We Must Do For Chaos' creeping into superfast hardcore. Themes of nationhood and 'protecting the realm' are present, speaking to techno's ironic appropriation of militaristic defence themes.

Review: The Well Street label welcomes Yushh for her debut EP. The Pressure Dome label-head (who has previously landed on Facta & K-LONE's Wisdom Teeth as well as Banoffee Pies) brings a mind-altering mix of sounds here. There is sparse and futuristic space techno on 'Kara Arriba' then deeply introspective downbeat on 'Siro Silo'. 'Dough' is a percolating rhythm piece with rubbery bass and dreamy pads while 'OXI Ambigan' floats through space next to fizzing synth details, distant nebulas and alien life forms.

Review: Tresor's extended focus on reissuing old Drexciya and Drexciya-related projects continues here with this version of Shifted Phases' 'The Cosmic Memoirs Of The Late Great Rupert J Rosinthrope'.

Review: 'The Cosmic Memoirs Of The Late Great Rupert J Rosinthrope' is an obscure rarity by a short-lived alias of Drexciya member James Stinson, Shifted Phases, which is now getting the full, refocused reissue treatment by German clubbing giant Tresor. Having remained out of print since its initially tiny release for over two decades, this bubbly yet grim electro album reflects an epistolary concept expressed musically rather than in written form. Rupert J. Rosinthrope is a mysterious character, but these cosmic memoirs hopefully shed at least some light on "his" misunderstood memory.

Review: Berlin-based maverick Stefan Goldmann returns after the exquisite and sonically spatial delights of his Vector Rituals album with two more upbeat tracks that nod to techno but nevertheless steadfastly refuse to follow its stricter rules. 'In Aggregate' and flip track 'Carob' both throb and surge their way to the run out groove, eschewing the usual array of drum sounds to leave the rhythmic urgency down to other elements and turning the genre's on its head. Which is, let's face it, what he does best.

Review: Lo Fidelity Music is back with more high-quality tuneage. This time it is the Rave Invaders series helmed by Lennard Ypma that gets us dancing with a bonkers mix of brilliance including a remix from the unique mind of Legowelt. His take on 'Wolf Men' is spaced-out house music with a midpoint morph that brings on utter carnage. It's a heavy weapon to keep up your sleeve, for sure. Elsewhere there is serrated acid madness on '818313', caustic cosmic stompers like 'Matig Modern' and electro acid vibes on 'Wolf Men.' A fierce collection of fresh electro, for sure.
