Armando Cusopoli - "Non C'e Sole" (3:43)
Tony Iglio - "Luci Di New York" (3:29)
Review: Two years ago New Guinea joined forces with Early Sounds Recordings to offer up a killer compilation of rare 1970s and early 80s disco, jazz-funk and electrofunk recordings from Napoli, the Italian city they call home. Such was the success of the set that they've decided to offer up this equally impressive sequel. Amongst the mostly ultra-obscure, little-known cuts you'll find a wealth of highlights, from the high-octane disco stomp of Tonica & Dominante's "Babilonia", the spacey boogie business that is Ara Macao's super-sweet "Reflection", the languid AOR-funk of Maria Kelly's "Dimme" and the low-slung jazz-funk brilliance of Tony Iglio's "Luci Di New York".

Review: Emotional Response has described soFa's fourth compilation for the label as "internationalism for the adventurous DJ", full of club music for the open-minded. It's basically an eclectic, esoteric musical travelogue that serves of intriguing, entertaining and admirable electronic music for those of a leftfield persuasion. There's much to enjoy, from the undulating melodies, off-kilter beats and mind-soothing chords of Infuso Giallo's 'Torus', and the moody techno-not-techno wave minimalism of Puma & The Dolphin ('Grass Drum'), to the analogue-heavy cold-wave dystopia of Houschyar ('Intercontinental'), the dark ambient techno of Lamusa II ('Artificial') and the tribal tinged electronic psychedelia of Bolva ('Rite II').

Review: Putch continues to take sole charge of the music on their own self-titled label. This fifth transmission, which again comes as a limited hand-stamped white label 12" - follows on where the previous four, which all sold out in quick fashion, left off. That is to say with a dusty house vibe that is driven by frayed kicks, well-programmed rhythms and sharp percussion to cut through the deepness. Add in some melodies that range from cosmic and spaced out to trippy and neon, and you have another high-functioning EP.

Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Six years after delivering his debut album - a digital-only affair called TruSkool - Demuir has finally got round to recording a follow-up. The Toronto native's brand of house is chunky, groovy, deep and funky, taking cues not only from previous collaborators such as DJ Sneak, but also those of his contemporaries that make great use of dusty samples and killer drum programming. As a result, Visions manages to work both as a collection of club-focused cuts and an album you can listen to repeatedly from start to finish. Our picks of a pleasingly strong bunch include the fluid, disco-tinged, Hipnotic-sampling brilliance of 'Mind, Body & Soul Call Me', TUSH hook-up 'Skylar' (a superb slab of gospel-tinged soulful house) and the delicious Fred P collaboration 'Dream (Part II)'.

Review: Those interested in Japanese cartoons should know Space Adventure Cobra. First broadcast in 1982, it is now considered one of the country's finest animated TV series. This triple-vinyl box set celebrates Kentano Haneda and Yuji Ono's music from the series, combining compositions featured on the show with unheard extended versions and tracks that never made the cut first time round. Musically, it's a mix of Japanese disco, sax-sporting lounge jazz, jazz-funk, neo-classical movements and eccentric interludes, all doused in layers of cosmic dust and stargazing colour. The release also comes packaged with a 12-page booklet telling the story of the series and the making of the appealing, endlessly entertaining soundtrack.

Emile - "Jeu Froid" (6:14)
Review: The second Abstract Cuts release is an EP split four ways, but with new, unconventional approaches to the dancefloor at the heart of each submission and all using vintage drum machines and samplers. The Robot Dance Connection's 'Powers Of Ten' (R2d2 live edit) kicks off side one, shiny high frequency polish played off against a gorgeously stubborn techno beat, before the slinkier and smoother 'Gold Saucer' by Brunzi offers an equally danceable but less angular counterpoint. Flip it over and Tomska's 'Lethal Overdose' (Touch dub 2022) offers rushing sonics, off kilter snare damage and four to the floor thump, before Emile's 'Jeu Froid' completes the set in grimy basement style.

Review: Here comes a truly show-stopping swooner on Penrose, the sublabel of the ever-trusty Daptone Records. This is the first solo outing for Jensine Benitez, who is usually found singing with Thee Sacred Souls, a hard-gigging outfit who always send the crowd home elated after Benitez takes centre stage. With her bandmates on hand to provide back-up duties, we get treated to a pair of dreamy soul songs that capture a little 50s swing which gels beautifully with Benitez's arresting voice. Both tracks are downtempo lullabies perfect for those intimate, wind-down moments with the one you love. Trust us, this is some seriously romantic stuff.

Review: Weird balearic acid electro and downtempo from the group known as Hektisch Sprengen DJs (known as the heads of the label Terra Magica). Their efforts until now have been to release oddball music from their contemporaries, but never before have we heard anything from the heads themselves. Drawing on Latin music styles such Cumbia, there are all manner of phoned-in vocal samples thrown in, such as Dr. Alban's refrain from the 1990s hit 'No Hash Hash, No Cocaine'. A low-end-centric, soft-edged effort to induce trance states in the listener.

Review: A Flock of Seagulls may be best known for their hit song 'I Ran (So Far Away)' but the band's influence on synthpop and new wave, outside of that claim to fame, is actually much greater. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1982, features the iconic track as well as other memorable cuts such as 'Space Age Love Song' and 'Wishing', adding extra far-out elements to the formula already cut out by The Cure. The band's distinctive hairstyle, featuring asymmetrical cuts and a gravity-defying swoop, became known as the "Flock of Seagulls haircut," even refernced in the film 'Pulp Fiction'. Cleopatra US's reissue of the album is a reminder of the band's lasting impact on 80s pop culture.

Review: Aaron Andrew's Chubby label doesn't rush things. Since launching in 2018 and now only just hitting its sixth release though the music sure is worth the wait and is proof that quality will always win over quantity. Leonid's twin brother, Al Smith opens up with the cuddly and cosmic depths of 'Drama Room' before getting more dark and unsettling with his twisted synth modulations on 'Full Of Music', which then becomes a gorgeous downtempo cut with star-gazing pads and splashy hits within the Specter remix. Dan Piu picks up the pace for some delightfully warm deep house dynamics on 'Days Gone' and 'Snows Of Solaris'. Last of all is the more scuffed up, heads down deep house murk of Rai Scott's remix of Dan's intro tune, 'Day's Gone'.

Thus, The Boyfriends was born and lurch into the fray so they did in unencumbered fashion with a bevvy of pop sensibility and mega hooks hidden behind a frenetic bent. Wrapped Up In A Dream compiles the group's two singles as well as studio material and demos, remastered from the original tapes and pressed to its very first vinyl home. Take a listen and potential spin to one of the great powerpop punk outfits forgotten to time no longer.

Review: The Blow Monkeys' classic debut Animal Magic sees a well-deserved 4xCD reissue, physically looking back on the year of 1986, in which elegant lead singles such as 'Digging Your Scene' took New York by storm. The album blends pop, funk, new wave and soul, likening the human condition rightly to that of animals - and it's no surprise that there's an anticapitalist bent running throughout the album too. A wealth of bonus material here appears too, as sophisticated sax, synth and reverb sway off into the horizon.

It's packed with creativity as per usual from the Dutchman who is known for building bridges between Detroit and Amsterdam. First up is 'Between the Surface' which is a steamy and intense techno roller with plenty of Motor City soul. The melodic synth lines take over on 'Dazed' with its watery droplets and elastic rhythm then 'Immortal' closes down with a darker vibe, more minimal styling and eerie pads.

Review: Henry Wenceslas Thenard's obscure but wonderful zouk sounds are real treasure, and also super expensive if you can find the originals. This one is a noter zouk funk disco bomb that first came on the artist's 1978 album Laser. Miaou-Miaou has a compelling rhythm with lush autistic guitar riffs and seductive vocals up top and the whole thing really comes alive with the horns. On the B-side is a Deni Shain & Mister Francky remix that brings it up to date for modern dance floors with a little more weight and then a horns version which puts them front and centre.

Building on an increasingly otherworldly set of inspiration - which he's gradually entertained as his career has marched on - this new LP 'Imagine' playfully dissects the possibilities of dance music from the perspective of an alternate reality. Buzzing leads, detuned leads, and international flavours evoke a modern take on sounds espoused first by the likes of Amorphous Androgynous or Charanjit Singh.

The title track opens with a hint of Balearic breeziness in the warming chords that roll over silky beats. Subtle vocal sounds add extra warmth which Nick Beringer builds on with his remix. It's the definition of soul electronic music with its bubbly bass and golden pad work. 'Calasantrope' then brings a nice rasping bassline to power things on a little more before 'Infusion' hints at a little cosmic trigness which will be perfect for the dead of night after parties.

Our Reality is an impressive four tracker featuring some collaborations with some well known and up-and-coming producers. Side A features the spiritual deep house of the title track (feat Nathaniel Asamoah) which really channels those Prescription Records vibes of old, while the cavernous and glacial 'Another Reality' (feat Amber Vineyard) takes a more ominous turn. Over on the flip, Baltimore legend Karizma lends his Midas touch to a properly deep re-rub of the A1 cut, as does 25 Places on the False Reality Treatment - which pushes the track into emotive and life-affirming territory.

This 22-track extravaganza is noted to have been Fabric's most challenging licensing ordeal to date, having to polish a variety of sonic gemstones including by The Logic Box, Box Clever and Psychedelic Research Lab. Clearly, the relative obscurity of the names on the CD make this the duo's ode to 'hidden' house. Their original track 'Higher Elavation', meanwhile, cements this mysterious mood with surreptitious basses and smoggy pads.

Review: "It was not like falling in love - it was falling in love," says Phoebe Bridgers of how Boygenius came into being. Digital pen pal letters exchanging recommendations and adoration for poets and songwriters, a chance meeting in the green room of a venue - when fellow members Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus struck up a friendship over a copy of Henry James - and, eventually, a studio session that led to the recording of not one song, as planned, but an entire EP.
Skip forward to today, and The Record represents the culmination of this meeting of minds. The three women, each garnering widespread acclaim in their own right prior to forming this group, are proof that sometimes sums can be equal to their parts. Emotionally charged, alternative rock, packed with exceptional songwriting, the kind of lyrics that hit home then make a bed for themselves, it's a real gem.

Combining pristine indie pop gloss with melancholic lyrics and experimental production, highlights such as 'Emily, I'm Sorry' amount to paeans for the death of relationships and braving extreme weather for the sake of love. Masterful harmonies dart and glide across each production mix, cementing the bandmembers' vocal abilities.

One can almost be guaranteed an easy ride through this album thanks to its emphasis on vibe rathe than posey complexity. Echoic laughter, sonic reflections and delayed acid lines all pepper its omnipresent, rubbery basses, with baseball organs ('Creepy') and trance tropes ('One Step Closer', 'Mortal Trance') cropping up aplenty.

Review: Lloyd Cole & The Commotions - Cole, Blair Cowan, Lawrence Donegan, Neil Clark and Stephen Irvine - were formed in Glasgow in 1982, where Buxton-born singer-songwriter Cole was studying Philosophy and English at the University. A paragon of 'well-read pop music', this might be considered an form of art pop, being the debut that cemented Cole's intellectual reputation, and perhaps a prototype of the popular 'softboy' trope from the early 80s. Crisp soft proto-indie rock and haunting, near gothic synths underlie hits such as 'Forest Fire', sure to rouse emotions even in the coldest and most book-shy of listeners.

Review: Moscow label FrouFrouFrou marks its eighth release with an all-star lineup. A braggadocious cut from French DJ Dylan Dylan opens up Side A, a funk-step number with a great vocal sample. Belgium producer Hatt.D steps up next for something more sultry in 'Emotionz (Part 2)', with a quintessential 90s flare complete with 808 State Loon calls. Speaking of birds, Australian disco collector Dawn Again's 'I'm Like a Bird' is a swansong of beeping synths and atmospheric drone synths and Manhood offers up a tropical vibe with a mid-tempo sunny house cut. Continuing on the expansive summer atmosphere, German DJ Palmate offers up a reverb-synth laden upbeat jam in 'Departure' that prefaces the tech-heavy deep house 'Pluto' by DJ Bigspin. A huge variety of upbeat tracks for the more mid-tempo deep house fan.

Review: Since 2020 Wachita China has been piling on the electro deviance through their own WC label while also moonlighting on the likes of low income $quad. This latest record keeps up the edgy aesthetics and uncompromising machine pressure, veering from the techy stomper 'Along Dancing In The Shoegaze Tample' to the thumping intensity of 'Chinese Takeover', stopping by the broken beats and metallic pings of 'Strobe Sword' and welcoming DJ Disappointed to collaborate on the slightly sweeter synth flourishes of 'Dorsal'. 'TAI1 EDiTTT' completes the set with a catchy dose of hard-pinging electro-tech with a subtle pop thread buried in the mix.

Review: First cropping up in 2012, the mammoth A-Sides series from the titanic Swedish techno label Drumcode charges ahead into its 11th installment (can you believe it?) while also managing to split said installment alone across seven slices of vinyl. This is the fourth record of seven in part eleven. Only gigantic-room techno could justify this waxen audacity; the music is braggadocious to boot, with contributions from Nicolas Taboada, BEC, Avision and Cosmic Boys. The tracks here are as dreamy as they are goosebump-inducing, easily seguing between massive transitions and drops to cathartic reesebound trances.

Review: Houndstooth has come a very long way since it launched as the nightclub fabric's sister label aimed at less up front electronic tones. Over the years, it has widened its remit, meaning the roster now includes artists so far removed from where the imprint originally came from you'd struggle to believe the back story, establishing itself among the most varied and exploratory UK labels today.
Enter US experimental artist Katie Gately to prove our point. Fawn is a trip, to say the least. Themed around childhood and what comes next, it audibly reflects the tantrums, the wonder, the rebellion, and the growth that we endure from those earliest years through to teenagehood. And it does this through noisy art rock and avant-garde pop. A real creative triumph everyone should hear.

myVolts Beatsplitter Dual Output Switchable Signal Splitter Audio Interface (black) myVolts Beatsplitter Dual Output Switchable Signal Splitter Audio Interface (black)
Cat: 924225 Rel: 30 Mar 23 • View all Audio interfaces

Dual output switchable signal splitter audio interface.
Notes: The Beatsplitter is a single to dual stereo splitter with switchable channels.

It can duplicate outputs, but it can also merge inputs. Which signals appear on each channel is determined by how a small switch is set on the side of the unit.

On the Left channel, in can be set to Stereo, LL (Left, Left) and Mono. On the Right channel, it can be set to Stereo, RR (Right Right) and Mono.

In output mode, the stereo cable plugged into the unit has a Left and Right signal. If the output is set to LL, then the Left channel signal from the input is duplicated to both Left and Right sides of one output, creating a false stereo. The same can be achieved with the Right input signal, by setting the Right sided output to RR.

In input mode, the Left channels from ach of the two inputs are merged onto the Left channel of the output when switched to LL. The same happens for the Right channels when switched to RR.

What does the Beat Splitter do?

The Beat Splitter allows you to manage the signals to your desired outcome. In practical terms, it solves channel mis-match problems, for example, did you ever want to...

Share an output of your jam with a second person with headphones? Whether you want to share the output of a player, or a mini-synth like a PO, or duplicate the output of your summing mixer, this very easily achieved.

Have a second output to record any of the above on a recorder, or even bluetooth send it to a camera or phone. The convenience of being able to "get in" at any point in your setup means greater flexibility when recording.

But I can do those things with a standard splitter cable, is there anything else it can do?

Get a true stereo output to two independent speakers. For example, if you wished to take a laptop audio output and send L and R channel independently to a Left and Right speaker, true separation is achieved. You can send a LL to one speaker and RR to the other. This will be far better than a stereo splitter cable, which will give you a LR on both speakers, or a stereo to mono cable, which will give you a L Mono and R Mono on each speaker.

Create a stereo effect when you want it. There are numerous situations where audio will end up only on one side of your headphones, or worse, one side of your mix in recording. These include, when your guitar, or violin pick-up only outputs Mono, or when you run your keyboard through a Mono effects pedal. Using the LL output, you can "stereo-fy" your Mono output, by creating a false stereo duplication of the channel.

Allow yourself to easily record on two channels with one input. If you wanted to record an interview, but have only a single input stereo recorder, Beat Splitter makes it possible to record the two voices independently. For example, a smartphone with audio input jack could have the beatsplitter attached, then a mic could be plugged in to each of the two inputs, set to LL and RR, the phone would record person A on L channel and person B on R channel. This would obviously work with any two channel recording requirement, with synths, guitar and voice, etc.

Avoid Sync "hammer" in your mix. A lot of small synths have intelligent systems for clock control, usually existing on the Left side of your stereo connection. Avoiding this in your mix is possible with the Beat Splitter. For example, using a Pocket Operator as sync master to control a Korg Volca slave. One Beat Splitter channel has output audio, the other outputs sync. This can be also be achieved with a stereo to dual mono cable, but if you do, you will most likely end of with your PO audio on one channel, as in the point above.

For desktop synths, manage audio independently from sync to avoid distortion from multiple pass-throughs and allow recording on independent tracks. The suggested method for connecting a number of Pocket Operators, is to run them in a train, each passing sync and audio on to each other. Each pass-through requires the adding of gain, which can provide significant noise and distortion as it passes through multiple amplifications. This also removes the possibility of individual volume control per PO and the recording of the POs outputs as individual tracks. With Beat Splitter, all these limitations and difficulties are removed.

Can TAPS be combined?

Yes, they can be combined, they are also stack-able, you can plug a Beat Splitter into a PO, then plug a PnP into one of its outputs. These configurations solve other problems, such as...

Wet/Dry effects on your tabletop. If you want to duplicate your audio output from a device (with Beat Splitter), then you can run a cable through an effects unit (e.g. Korg Monotron), put a PnP on its output and you get a Wet/Dry version of the effect by turning the pot in Volume mode.

You can A/B test two sources of of a input to a mix. Just set up like point 5 above, then use a PnP to pan between the two inputs.

myVolts Hot Tip - light-up PSU tester, polarity indicator, with pass-through.
Notes: Power Supply Tester

Hot Tip is a power supply tester - it lights up when you connect a working power supply to it.

Uh-oh. Something's not coming on - but is the plug or the device that's dodgy? It's easy to test a plug with the Hot Tip. Just plug the power supply into the wall, then connect it to the Hot Tip - the LED illuminates if there's power, so you'll know if your plug is good or bad.

The female end of Hot Tip accepts a standard 5.5mm outer diameter / 2.1mm inner diameter barrel tip - it's the commonest size, usedon 98% of effects pedals, synths etc.

If you want to test a power adaptor with a different size output, just add the sizes you want to your cart, and we'll send you the parts to fit.

Not sure what size tip you need? Ask us and we'll advise - myVolts has 12 years in the power game and there's nothing we don't know about power.

Power Passthrough

Hot Tip doesn't get in the way of the power - you can power a device through it.

You can power a device without removing the Hot Tip from the PSU tip end - the LED draws almost no power, so you can go ahead and plug the tip end of Hot Tip into your device. That's handy for dark environments, like on a stage - or anytime you want to know and be sure there's power available. (The only works for gear that Hot Tip fits into, 5.5mm outer diameter and 2.1mm inner diameter).

Polarity Indicator LED

Hot Tip illuminates BLUE for centre positive polarity, and RED for centre negative polarity.

Power supplies got mixed up, now you're not sure what polarity which PSU is? Hot Tip contains a bi-colour LED, and lights up BLUE when the connected PSU is polarity centre positive (BLUE C +) and RED when the connected PSU is polarity centre negative (RED C -). It's written on the Hot Tip too, so you don't need to remember it.

Review: American singer Omar Apollo dropped his debut album last year with singles such as 'Go Away', 'Bad Life', and 'Tamagotchi' all performing well. The record was the artist's first ever entry into the Billboard Top 200 which no doubt rewards him for deciding to rewrite the whole thing after not being happy with the first version. "I wasn't excited about it. It was good music - it wasn't bad music, but it didn't feel like me" he said at the time. The genre-hopping record mixes up pop-punk, r&B, hip-hop, indie-pop and elements of Latin trap, funk, psychedelic music and traditional Mexican music.

Dwarfed by the likes of Faith No More, Fantomas and Mr Bungle, Tomahawk debuted in 2001. Frontman Patton teamed up with The Jesus Lizard's Duane Denison, Battles/Helmet stickman John Stanier and Melvins veteran Kevin Rutmanis on bass, Tomahawk took a direct shot at the melodrama of nu-metal and tapped into a truer, more evocative idea of disturbed America. It's a masterpiece from start to finish, wildly unhinged but with a dead-eye focus.

Review: In the labyrinth halls and corridors of Mike Patton's musical endeavours, there are always hidden treasures to be unearthed. Dwarfed by the likes of Faith No More, Fantomas and Mr Bungle, Tomahawk has retained more of a cult appreciation since their first album came out in 2001. With Patton teaming up with The Jesus Lizard's insanely talented guitarist Duane Denison, Battles/Helmet sticksman John Stanier and Melvins veteran Kevin Rutmanis on bass, Tomahawk took a direct shot at the melodrama of nu-metal and tapped into a truer, more evocative idea of disturbed America. It's a masterpiece from start to finish, wildly unhinged but with a dead-eye focus, and surely ranks among the finest projects Patton has ever turned his distinctive larynx to.

Review: While he might not have enjoyed the same global superstardom as Daft Punk or Bob Sinclair, Alan Braxe has more than made his mark as a legend of the French touch movement. As co-creator of monster house anthems 'Music Sounds Better With You' (with Stardust) and 'Intro' (with Fred Falke) he's shown off his skills in crafting an eternal classic. In 2005 The Upper Cuts was released to shine a light on the wider reaches of his impeccable oeuvre - every track a pitch perfect slice of Parisian dancefloor gold. Now it's being reissued in newly remastered form with some bonus belters including Braxe's remix of Britney Spears' 'Anticipating'.

Review: Alan Braxe & Fred Falke's 'Intro' was an undeniable earworm in its day, being the scratchy French house montager on present everyone's decks for at least several summers in a row in the early 00s. Few know Braxe was also behind the inimitable 'Music Sounds Better With You' by Stardust, alongside Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter of course, for which he was finally credited on 'The Upper Cuts' here, first released in 2005. Now almost twenty years later, the EP gets a full reissue, documenting some of the artist's most well-known hits.

Review: The 2005 album 'The Upper Cuts' is a classic work of house music history that can still light up a dancefloor; a work of sadness and joy; darkness and light; profundity and release. If you want to know how French Producer Alan Braxe helped to create a new template for the French house sound in the early 2000s, right when French house needed it most; or how Braxe's gorgeously clean productions and evocative synth melody provided a bridge between the first wave of French house and the Ed Banger / Justice / Kitsune axis that followed; then your answer starts here.

'The Upper Cuts', rounds up several of Braxe's greatest hits, including the Bangalter collab 'Music Sounds Better With You' and - most prominently - his work with Fred Falke, a bass player Braxe met on military service. Braxe and Falke's union created some of the best house music records of the 2000s, with Falke's slinky, melodious and very funky bass lines fitting like a glove around Braxe's production know-how and ear for a melody. This newly reissued version adds seven bonus tracks including Braxe's iconic remix of Britney Spears' 'Anticipating' and two completely new tracks.

Review: Hospital Records has reached a milestone that few independent labels ever do: their 500th release. It's an astonishing achievement, so to mark the occasion they've put together a two-disc set of exclusives and previously unheard remixes of classic label cuts. While there are few surprises, there's plenty of heat on show, from the sparkling, summery d&b brilliance of Marky and Makoto's remix of Solah's 'Everything Is Possible', and the bowel-bothering bassline-goes-D&B mind-warp of 'Red Pill' by Flava D, to the ragga jungle-with-steel pan-melodies of Voltage's Sweet Irie hook-up 'Natty Love (Serum VIP)' and the punchy, MC-sporting peak-time weight of Iyre's 'Want No Drama (feat T-Man)'. Throw in fine contributions from Hospital mainstays London Elektricity, SPY and Logistics, and you have an excellent celebration of one of British dance music's most iconic imprints.

From Enei to Makoto, the full range is flexing here. Highlights galore but attention needs to be paid to the fantastic futuristic funk link between Rohaan & MRSA (AKA Mat Zo), Hugh Hardie & Stay-C's space-aged swooper 'Impala', the brazen rudeness of Unglued Lens & Whiney's 'Lazy Hardcore' and the sweet jazzy subtleties of Winslow's 'Spaced Out'. Here's to the next 500.

Review: It's album number nine from The Hold Steady, who, as it happens, marked 20 years as a band with this release (or at least the anniversary roughly coincided with the LP landing in stores). During that time, these masters of rough and tumble, near-barroom rock for and by the people, have climbed the ladder of musical fame, enjoyed time in a well-deserved limelight, and then returned to the underground from whence they came.
Understanding that journey is important. Achieving heights of mainstream success a decade or so ago, it's not that the half-spoken word vocal delivery of frontman Craig Finn has waned in impact or emotional resonance. Nor has the timeless, brass and piano hued rock & roll instrumentation gone stale. Instead, their relentless consistency means we almost take the quality of every song and record for granted, leaving die hard fans to carry the torch. Perhaps now is the time to correct that.
