Review: Utopia Club Tracks, the new 12" dancefloor subdivision by Utopia Records takes a dubbed out direction with legendary UK house producer Neil 'Nail' Tolliday under his 'Smoke' guise. Music for being eyes down in the smoke, these late night cuts expand on the sound of Basic Channel and Rhythm and Sound with extra groove and just enough elements to create a modernist house palette, essential for any DJ that goes deep.

Review: The second release from Music Makes Us is produced by a young, up and coming producer from Leeds. Einerlei has an unrivaled ability to create long revolving landscapes of techno, which over the course of the track take you on a journey, adding subtle elements as you listen, but retaining the core rif. This ability to create a whole piece of music out of a simple melody may seem simple in its delivery, but as you listen you notice the varying layers that make up these two driving dub techno tracks.

Review: Zeta Reticula is the Electro alias of Umek, a Techno legend that has 25 years of production and chart topping hits. Zeta Reticula has strong releases on top labels such as Electrix & Mechatronica. With this EP for Monotone, we experience the solid sounds and refined Electro styles that Zeta is known for. The title tune, Digital Card is groovy while maintaining a constant build up of energy throughout. The remix from Exzakt & BFX takes it to a different place with their signature deep bass sound. Both of these are ready to tear up speakers in clubs around the globe. The B side keeps the EP going with a brilliant number, Endless Clue. Solid percussion and industrial growling basslines. Going a bit deeper however maintaining the club vibes. Finally Message In Code offers a fantastic ending to this Electro EP. 303, 808 & 909.

Review: Carl Finlow is one of The UK's unsung electro heroes. On "Hashtag", he's remixed by another criminally underrated British electro and dance music wizard: Radioactive Man (a.k.a. Keith Tenniswood). This tight jam from 2013 finally got a wider audience last year thanks to Helena Hauff's memorable Denkmantel set. "Hashtag" combines Drexciya-referencing synth work with the perfect amount of acid flourish and a menacingly gliding bassline. Re-released due to high demand and mint copies selling for L160 on discogs. Pure bliss.

  3. Spook In The House - "Conspiracy"
Review: After a busy Summer on the road, South London's Silverlining returns to his home-grown imprint for the tenth release on his cult series. The EP opens with his sublime 2019 remix of Arctor and Jay Hill, previously unrleased on vinyl. On the flip are two reissues: the first of his 1998 remix of Ravi McArthur from Reverberations; and a Detroit-inspired electro track written at the tender age of 19 back in 1995 under his early Spook in the House guise.

Review: Vigenere is creating a mysterious vibe with its obscure collaborative releases, but the music speaks for itself as it plots a course through deeper realms of the dance. After contributing to the first release, Malin Genie is back and seemingly flying solo for a more direct trip into dubby techno territory - that's certainly the vibe on opening immersion heater "Eschaton". "Drain" has a more tripped out minimal flavour with the after hours in mind, while "Venus" swaps moody atmospheres out for a hazy shuffler peppered with slices of warm instrumentation. "Elara" brings things full circle with another crooked dub-out to bring eyelids down heavy in a state of transcendental bliss.

Review: Trauma Collective returns with four cuts of decidedly hypnotic and abstract techno from ever-prolific ASC. Rounding out the last decade with a string of stand-out releases on his own imprint, Auxiliary, the San Diego producer brings his cerebral sonic aesthetic to the fledgling Madrid label. "Loop Research" showcases a singular artist unbound by tempo and at the top of their game.

Review: Following two well received releases on 20/20 Vision - 'Machine Life' & 'Asimov's Code' Versalife returns to the label with his latest album 'Manifold' serving up futuristic electro with signature emotive synth work to trigger the imagination. The Dutch producer Boris Bunnik aka Conforce continues his dystopian journey with auditory echoes of a cosmic abyss. Peppered with moody tones, deep bass lines and robotic funk, 'Manifold' navigates the future landscape in true Versalife fashion.

Minimal/Tech House
  1. Sky Kings
  2. Cellular Entanglement
  3. Unfurling
Review: The levels of intrigue continue to run high around the rapidly developing Vigenere label, as the Malin Genie-helmed label continues to showcase lesser known talents operating in more adventurous corners of the techno domain. Yard One are a UK duo split between London and Manchester, and you can certainly here a rough n' ready soundsystem attitude and the ghost of classic '90s techno permeating the textured, knotty rhythms on opening cut "Sky Kings". "Cellular Entanglement" takes things in a more serene direction, but not at the expense of crisp beats to propel the twinkling synths along. "Unfurling" presides over the flip with a mystical atmosphere that should appeal to those who like their techno oceans deep and dubbed out to perfection.

Review: Unlike many producers who operate within the broad sphere of techno, Aes Dana (real name Vincent Villuis) has always favoured albums over singles. In fact, "Inks" is his seventh album since debuting in 2002, though it's also his first for almost eight years. From start to finish, "Inks" is as hushed, atmospheric and trance inducing as you'd expect, with Villuis offering up a mixture of ambient soundscapes (many laden with field recordings), trip-hop flecked slow electronica cuts, ultra-deep and hypnotic progressive house cuts, droning aural textures and blazed dub techno workouts. The tracks with beats are nominally dancefloor-friendly, but the whole set is best enjoyed while lying flat on your back with your eyes firmly closed.

No rules. Just reality. Wildness. Nothing can be stopped.

Review: Seminal reissue alert! Baby Ford had already been a chart-baiting acid house superstar by the time he launched the PAL SL label in 1996. He'd left behind the major label scene and moved firmly back into the underground with exploratory techno releases on Ifach and collaborations with Mark Broom. This new label marked a shift for Ford though, setting him up for the trips into minimalist club tracks that have been his bread and butter for decades now. From the machine soul trysts of "Slow Hand" to the woozy techno thrust of "Tall For His Height" and the atmospheric house wriggle of "Kez", this release is a classic through and through. Beat the sharks and nab a copy of this long out-of-print gem.

Review: Once again tugging on the proverbial heart-strings, MDA Analog returns with a vibrant new EP designed to emote friendly vibes and good spirits. "Lost but not Broken" provides a dreamy outlook with a hint of melancholy, but finally resolving with a message of optimism. "A Theory of Everything" delivers a thouroughly housey vibe to complete the first side. On the B side, "Mimico Creek" bubbles along with upbeat tones, while "Scavenger Hunt" completes the collection with a catchy vibe.
