Review: Shelved since 1981, "Three Little Words" is a collection of unreleased recordings from a veritable supergroup. Comprising heavyweights such as songwriter/producers Bill Meyers and Guy Thomas and Blood Sweat & Tears' Neil Subenhaus, Toto's Jeff Porcaro, Novo Combo's Carlos Rios, drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Boruff and Mike Fisher, the album is an AOR-meets-yacht-meets-80s ballads that's captures every member's prowess and collective tightness over nine short sweet tracks. Slick, incredibly well produced and loaded with a keen eye for arrangement and composition, it's remarkable these haven't surfaced before. An incredible piece of excavation from Preservation Records.

Review: Twenty years ago it sounded like an oddly poignant evocation of pre-millennial tension. Two decades later it stands as an eerily prescient glimpe into the technological alienation and dislocation of of a new era. Yet more importantly, OK Computer is no more or less than a sparkling, dramatic and moving collection of songs that haven't lost any of their impact in the interim. The sound of a band stubbornly refusing to follow up the stadium-strafing stylings of its predecessor The Bends - and instead bursting headlong into experimentation and wild creativity -is portrayed in still more vivid colours by the alarmingly strong collection of out-takes and B-sides collected herein, Yet there's no getting away from the chill and spark that marked out OK Computer from everything surrounding it in the post-Britpop malaise, and continues to do so in the pre-Brexit counterpart.

Review: "In Rainbows", Radiohead's seventh album, finally gets a physical release! It's one thing downloading this landmark album, but to actually hold this is something special. Not only do you get increased sound quality, but you also get the amazing artwork from Stanley Donwood. This album includes "Nude", a live favourite for many years that was originally written during the "OK Computer" sessions. More minimal that their "Kid A" period, "In Rainbows" does something that very few albums have done - its sound is distinct from previous Radiohead albums, but is still clearly Radiohead. Hail to the kings, they are back on top form. Get this album while you can.

Review: Since their early heyday of mammoth pop hits, electronic-indie duo MGMT seemed to sound gradually more and more conflicted, unsure whether to continue producing stadium-scale hooks or follow their eccentricities. It seems, with their fourth full-length 'Little Dark Age', that they've opted for the latter - sounding all the more confident and cohesive for it. 'Little Dark Age' sees the pair channeling their synthetic poppy psychedelia into their darkest, most serious and interesting songwriting yet. Anybody who panned 2013's self-titled album or 2010's 'Congratulations' should be pleasantly surprised by this return to form and new-found resolve. 'Little Dark Age' is a far cry from MGMT's definitive debut, but it's to the band's credit that exploring the more weird and wonderful corners of their pop-sensibilities has worked so well.

Review: Music On Vinyl are our new best friends. With a wide range of music being reissued as of late, Yello's 1987 One Second is just spoiling us. Never being fully acclaimed when it was originally released, this is one album which really spans the full circle in terms of artistic ideas sonic experimentations. While being tagged primarily as a pop work, it's really more of a lesson in synth manipulations and nutty beat-making. "The Rhythm Divine" has to be out top track but do check the whole thing, it's magnificent...

Review: This recording of the Philadelphia Orchestra performing Sergei Prokofiev's 1936 story and orchestral score Peter and the Wolf was recorded in 1977 and was originally released in 1978. The role of the narrator on the recording was initially offered to both Peter Ustinov and Alec Guinness who both turned it down, before David Bowie agreed to take on the role, supposedly as a Christmas present to his son. On the B-side is another equally as charming piece of recent classical history, Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide To The Orchestra as narrated by Hugh Downs.

Review: As Radiohead tour the world and then regroup to record their new album, Thom Yorke releases his own record, 'The Eraser' on XL Recordings. A collection of nine new songs, the record was written and played by Thom and was produced by Nigel Godrich. Variously hailed as "The Best Band In The World" (Q Magazine), "Rock's Best Live Band" (Rolling Stone) and the band were placed at number 1 of Spin Magazine's 40 most influential artists, Radiohead has arguably become the most acclaimed and adventurous force in modern music. Over six studio albums the group have proved that it is possible to make massive creative leaps whilst continuing to grow in worldwide stature. Their records set new benchmarks for others to aim towards, whilst their live shows reach levels of intensity and exploration that few can match.

Review: 1981's An Eye For An Eye is, to this day, the only LP produced by Byrne & Barnes together, and it's as playful and fresh as the first day it came out. While it's a little more on the synth side of things, it reminds us of other blue-eyed soul artists such as Ned Doheny, and throughout its eleven tunes, there's plenty of romance, mystique and soul-ridden funk. Think of it as the prototypical bridge between a 70's jazz-funk LP and the beginning of pop music as we know it today. Blue-eyed soul at its finest!

Review: Having explored the rich heritage of Nigeria and Ghana with well researched vigour, Soundway turn to Kenya for their next adventure... A rare insight: while Lagos was churning out seminal Afrobeat compositions, Kenya took to western influences in a much subtler fashion. With heavy emphasis on the Kenyan benga and Afro-Cuban rumba there's a much deeper, local folk presentation and format throughout most of the selection. Complete with detailed notes and beautiful presentation (like all Soundway compendiums) this won't look out of place in any collection.

Review: There's a chance this Liverpudlian four piece will be familiar by now. This, their 11th studio outing, first unveiled as the 1960s slipped into the 70s, is a bonafide epic from an outfit that weren't lacking in epics; in many ways a culmination of their time together, marking the end of their active years and beginning of their legacy. By this stage, then, they've emerged from years spent on the inner journey and time on the outer, space cadeting to the hallucinogenic fuelled tones of "Sgt. Peppers" and "Revolver". Of course, there's still plenty of explorations happening, but the gritty blues rock of opening track "Come Together" really sets the tone. Five decades on, it still sounds great and maybe even better than you remember. Even if you own the original, this anniversary edition is worth having.

Review: It's vital that the uninitiated understand one thing about 21-year-old Alexander O'Connor - his infectious and well crafted pop tunes are almost destined to bore a hole into your brain and stay there for quite some time. Like Michael Buble meeting Ed Sheeran at someone's Macmillan Coffee Morning. If that sounds even vaguely off-putting then this one clearly isn't aimed at you. But it is aimed at those who appreciate artists that can switch between a kind of Grammar school rap delivery, croonerdom and uptempo boy band business. From the piano and vocal R&B number "Pluto Projector", to the chart-friendly freight train of "Never Had The Balls" and the light acoustic guitar soul effort "Stressed Out", O'Connor's third studio album "Pony" is an incredibly sweet introduction to an artist who's clearly packing plenty of talent.

Review: Following the liberation of Zambia from British colonial rule in 1964, a musical revolution took place in the Southern African nation. By the start of the 1970s, the country had its own unique fusion style known as Zamrock. A thrilling fusion of psychedelic rock, James Brown style hard funk and indigenous musical elements (most notably vocals and rhythms), the style was hugely popular in the nation throughout the decade. This superb double-vinyl compilation provides a brilliant overview for newcomers, gathering together scene staples and lesser-known gems from the likes of Witch, Ngozi Family, Ricky Banda, Machine Gunners, Salty Dog and Born Free. For the curious, the story of those who shaped the style is told in greater detail in the accompanying booklet.

Review: Re-imagining and reconstructing Philippe Sarde's original source material, Swedish trio Death & Vanilla have retrospectively scored Roman Polanski's cult 1976 thriller 'The Tenant'. Recorded from a live performance at the Cinemascore Film Festival, the repeated hypnotic phrases, poised vibraphone and organ parts and dissonant soundscapes perfectly match the film's themes of paranoia and deluded hallucination. The band's style - akin to Broadcast & Radiophonic Workshop - is cleverly deceptive in sounding simultaneously new and old. It pulls from modernity by dipping into electronica and mesmeric trip-hop style phrases, while the group's instrumentation and respect for the source material makes their music sound of the film's time. Most importantly, this rendition of 'The Tenant' is one of those uncommon gems of a soundtrack whose strength of musicianship lets it stand up on its own as a piece of music just as much as it does an accompaniment to its film counterpart.

Review: The latest missive from crate-digging reissue imprint Rocafort Records shines a light on the halcyon period of Evasion Disques, an imprint founded by members of rebellious French rock band Les (Faux) Freres in the late 1960s. Comprising 12 little-known cuts released on the label between 1970 and '73, the collection does a terrific job in highlighting the wide-eyed, psychedelic era brilliance of some of the label's now forgotten artists. Listeners can expect to hear a mixture of bluesy psychedelic rock, low-down Gallic funk, dream pop, Ramsey Lewis style excursions (see Hand's brilliant "Shifting Leads") and slightly kitsch instrumental workouts guaranteed to put smiles on faces.

Review: The Africa Seven label might not have been around for very long, but the London-Paris dynasty has certainly established itself as a no.1 outlet for rare, unhinged world music. This is Africa Airways Volume 3: The Afro-Psych Excursion, a gorgeous compilation spanning the years 1972 to 1984, and it clearly offers some of the most magnetic tunes that they label has put out thus far. There isn't a mediocre song in here and, as the saying goes, it's all-killer-no-filler; take African Black's "Nzango", for example, a twisted, FX-heavy tribal experiment, or the more soulful highs and lows of tunes like "Zinabu" by Bunzu Soundz. Rough, dusty, completely psyched-out, and inimitable the whole way through; if you're looking for something that'll get the heads turning, and the diggers jealous, then this is your LP. Highly recommended.

Review: Considered by many to be one of the best live albums of all time, 'At Fillmore East' the classic album by the Allman Brothers, recorded at the
pinnacle of their success, was a huge hit for the band. In 1971 the Allman Brothers were already one of the most popular groups in America,
but by the time this album hit the streets their brand of Southern rock had become a national obsession. One of Rolling Stones' '500 greatest
albums of all time', it was the band's last with guitar hero Duane Allman who was killed in a motorcycle accident later that year.

Review: For the younger generation maybe it's Wolfmother, and for everyone else it's Black Sabbath, but for a slightly ironic psych rock band that's here to be taken seriously, with a pinch of motorik fun, Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs bring home the bacon. King Of Cowards provides the north eastern Brits with arguably their most rock solid record that comes in at six tracks large, in a suitably punky pink vinyl pressing. It can sometimes be few and far between that perfect place, or band, that has the ability to capture the visceral vibe, howl and punch of heavy rock but there's no denying these guys do it with devil horns all the way.

Review: It's been twenty five years since the last Roger Waters solo album, and given the fractious nature of global affairs of late, it's hardly surprising that the lugubrious 74-year-old rock colossus has had no trouble finding things to get angry about of late. Dishing out songs on drone warfare, terrorism and American nationalism, 'Is This The Life We Really Want?' - which is stylistically very much in the mould of his post-'Dark Side' oeuvre - may be no barrel of laughs, but it's oddly reassuring that his righteous rage remains undiminished, not to mention aided and abetted by the skills of Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich in its intensity and relit ire.

Review: We've had more Neil Young compilations thrown our way over the years than many of us care to remember, but only one really sticks in the mind, and it's this one. Originally released in 1977 and chronicling the period in which Young went from being a simple member of Buffalo Springfield to one of the most heralded North American songwriters of the late century, and comprising work from that band alongside Crosby Stills Nash and Young, it's studded with delights aplenty. From the extended guitar sprawl of 'Down By The Ocean' and 'Cortez The Killer' to poignant balladry like 'After The Goldrush' and 'Helpless', no-one captured the dreams and hopes of the hippie generation in quite the way Young did, and this collection is a magnificent testimony to his most fertile and heartwarming era.

Review: Sacred Summits were the first to reissue Luis Perez's timeless Mexican hymns, back in 2014, but the diligent Mr Bongo has decided to buy the rights to press some more copies up. To us, that's only good news because we absolutely love this album. First released in 1981, it has been an almost impossible record to get a hold of on vinyl, but it absolutely SHOULD be readily available to anyone - through vast landscapes of subtle electronic manipulations and organic instrument improvisation, we are immersed in an endless world of mysticism, where each new listen will unearth something new and wonderful. What a sublime LP. Warmly recommended.

Review: Romania's Rodion GA is by no means a new name. The founding and only remaining member, Rodion Rosca, has been making music since the Communism-oppressed times of the 70's and 80's, where psychedelic sounds were by no means appreciated! It's only recently that Rosca's forward thinking music has truly seen the light of day, and following a retrospective on Strut, the equally on-point BBE present this 20 track selection of long-lost material! This stuff is seriously out-there, and each track brings something different to the table. From the drum-machine, Eastern vibes of "Acvila Fragment", to the gnarly, guitar-thrashing electronic of "Cosmic Game, and even the post-punk oddities of tracks like "Paradox", there's something in hear for all diggers and wax junkies. Recommended, of course.

Review: Be With Records look to continue a consistent run of reissuing important rarities by unearthing this gem from Arthur Russell's discography. This debut from the short-lived New York outfit The Necessaries is a key moment in the city's early 1980's art-rock/new-wave movement. Led by artist and composer Ed Tomney and formed of members of East-Coast tastemakers such as The Modern Lovers & Red Crayola, 'Event Horizon' sounds both of its time and forward thinking - playing with angular garage abrasion, jangling oddball art-rock and pop warmth. Russell's involvement, a year after forming respected disco group Loose Joints and just prior to writing his experimental solo cello work, is testament to his broad versatility and voracious love of music. This is an essential album for both Arthur Russell enthusiasts and collectors and lovers of East Coast new wave.

Review: Although the UK's Be With Records are indeed masters of reissues, we didn't really expect them to be releasing Ned Doheny material. Don't get us wrong, he is the master of blue-eyed soul in our world, and it is a surprising yet much appreciated release! This self-titled LP is the master's debut, a 1973 cross-over that has always had the diggers' panties in a twist thanks to its funky sensibility and rock-infused backbone. There's hit after hit on here, starting with the Southern-style riffs of "Fineline", and swiftly moving onto more soulful territories with the likes of "On & On" or "Lashambeaux". While his Numero reissues have been clearly disco-tinged, this album is more contemplative, more rooted in country rock and it makes one hell of a roadside companion. Recommended.

Review: Deep into his chamber-lurking follow-up Wu odyssey, Leon Michels stumbled upon shy New York twosome The Shacks and convinced them to record this hazy summer-primed 45". Singer Shannon steals the show with softness and honesty as the band weave a psychedelic bed of sliding guitars and faraway harmonies. Both laced with a woozy 60s edge and beautifully playful lyrics, the whole EP sparkles with soul and talent from both The Shacks and Leon's ever-reliable troupe.

Review: English actor, writer, and musician Matt Berry - of Darkplace and IT Crowd fame - covers, yes, covers an assortment of classic British TV themes. The result is an album to be appreciated as much as it is to be taken seriously, as it is to be enjoyed. Of course there's a pinch of humour with Berry placing himself alongside a muppet and Doctor Who on the album's cover art, but it's the theatrical, jazz and upbeat, yet easy listening approach of the album which really paints the picture. The LP's opener "Are You Being Served" is undeniable sweetest spot of nostalgia here, with the minutia of Thames Television indents, at 8 seconds long, also checked and covered. Recorded solo by Berry himself, it's a burgundy-beige trip through the technicolour memory of one's formative years enjoying the early-evenings and afternoons watching a select choice of the UKs most iconic TV.

But there's more than that to what they do, with the band's hippy disposition taking in a frenetic array of genres like kwaito and shangaan electro ("Summer Fungus" & "Omni Omni") while more dancey pop numbers like "Chimes" and can be found alongside darker alternative indie cuts like "Ata", "Black & White" and it's 10-minute long opening title track. Review: Chicago's chilled out space rock collective Cave have been puttin' funk in their step for around 15 years now, with local label Drag City a trusted home to their most recent music. Having released their last two records, this third effort provides their first in five years which delivers yet again an instrumental bevy of hypnotic jams, maintaining their penchant for psychedelia that touches on '70s inspired krautrock, island percussion and of course a gluttonous amount of free jazz fusion. A recording spate in Chile has no doubt added some spice to the six tracks here with "Sana Yago" cooler than strollin' down the neon streets of south-side Chicago itself. Listen up!

Review: If there's a duo who know how to come up with a name, it's Holydrug Couple, and Hyper Super Mega couldn't sound any better. There's a lot of oohing and cooing on this LP, however it's the group's timid and sweet touches that hit home most. There's a friendliness to the music, with "Forever End" the album's undeniable hit number, with echoes of Elton John piano rock (you'll hear it) there to be heard in "Ikebana Telephone Line" too. Further in you'll find the more dreamy, shoegaze-y and 90's pop colours of "I'll Only Say This" and "Easy", to the change in mood that is the urban, danse noir effort "Lucifer's Coat". Take in some more lo-fi synth of "Western Shade" and there's no playing down this album is what Holydrug Couple say it is.

Review: Les Claypool and Sean Lennon as you may suspect are The Claypool Lennon Delirium; the former being slap bass aficionado of the band Primus, and the latter of course the son of Beatle, John Lennon (& Yoko Ono). It presents the pair's second LP after a handful of EPs for ATO Records (Think Alabama Shakes, Ben Kweller, and Kaiser Chiefs) and it's a '70s futuristic embrace of psychedelic rock and funk cosmosis. Across nine virtually instrumental tracks - if there are vocals they're sung in a freakish "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" tone which sounds best on "South Of Reality". It's very much an album of hallucinogen, experimental, preamped and acoustic skill, with Pink Floyd and BBC Radiophonic Workshop semantics abound! A good one for that next trip, space bugs, grand canyons, interzone, and all.

It presents the fifth album Los Angeles label In The Red have released this year which, to stretch a writer's imagination, can be filed under: spacey western distorted punk pop. The album dusts itself up in a tattered post-punk style with the motoring "Cruisin' The Night" while also moving into more trip hoppy numbers like "End Times". In a way it's like colliding Suicide with Massive Attack and more of the turned Chemical Brothers genius. To dance, grumble or swing, Warm Drag hits the spot.

Harmonic distortion and an upbeat take on swinging, garage rock is how the band are making their name, with the surf rock of "Corinna" a highlight alongside the rolling drums and punky vocals of "Every Inch Of My Mind". With the band still full of a youthful, romantic angst, their debut opus sees the troupe scramble together a playful melee of amped guitars and loose drums to fit that perfect vintage feel.

Review: Smokey, heavy, whiskey-soaked and dramatic, Manchester's The Underground Youth provide us with a new album following the two they dropped in 2017. There's something incredibly UK about the band and their sound, which comes with a touch of Madchester about them too for good measure. Album opener "Sins" is about as drastic as anything Nick Cave could come up with, while there's echoes of Joy Division in Craig Dyer's voice throughout, while simultaneously there's something undeniably post-punk about the band's radical production. Edgy, raw and stone-faced yet full of flavour and deep seated in the malaise of melancholic shoegaze, this album title sets it all up really: Montage Images Of Lust & Fear.

Review: Norway legends of the scene Motorpsycho add yet another title to their cavernous discography - that dates back to 1990 - with The Crucible, an album riffing on the Salem Witch trials, which follows up from 2017's The Tower, adding yet more cultural dialect to their artistry following Let Them Eat Cake (2000) and Still Life With Eggplant (2013). Recorded last year at Monnow Valley Studios, Wales, with production hands Deathprod, aka Helge Sten, and Grammy Award Winner Andrew Scheps (think Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Audioslave and The Mars Volta), its epic title track, clocking in at 20-minutes, does the album justice alone. Taking up the entire B-side after two hellraising scrambles of avant-garde, psychedelic rock, Motorpsycho delivers a slow burning, storytelling journey through a thicket of pure sublimation.

Review: Jean Pierre Decerf's records have been sampled by top talent in the game (Wu-Tang Clan's RZA) and have also been massively inspirational to the likes of indie talent such as Air. However, the Parisian has always been something of a recluse and it's only now that his best moments have been collected into a definitive compilation by Born Bad Records. As both the cover and title suggest, this stuff is pure psychedelia from start to finish and tracks like "Like Flight" are simply stunning, where freaky guitar riffs meet with twisted synth patterns, funky percussion swings and seductive vocals. Not to exaggerate or anything but this LP might well be the best thing that's landed here at Juno HQ this week and you'd be silly not to pick it up. Essential electronic and discofied innovations.

Review: Previously spotted changing hands for over L300, the mysterious Argentinian band's one and only album from 1973 gets a long-awaited reissue and the moment you put the needle on it, you can hear why it's been in such demand. A frenetic, fiery instrumental saga that brings Latin, Afrobeat and funk together in one thick, spicy brew that ranges from poignant introversion ("Evenescente") to pure duelling guitar theatre ("Colision") Not dissimilar to acts such Azymuth, this really is a remarkable piece of work. Significant props to Pharaway Sounds for the excavation.
