Review: Robsoul Recordings has continue on the rich tradition of superb France deep hose for many years after the first wave of artists and labels came and went. This third edition of its Classic Sampler series is another joyous one that opens up with the jazzy loops and soul-drenched house grooves of Demuir's 'From Paris To Strasbourg'. Vincent Caira's 'Back Again' is more solid and raw but no less heartfelt then Mo'Funk & Roland Clark cut lose with an unabashed piano sound on 'Bring Together' that will get hands in the air. Three timeless tracks that really tap into the original spirit of house music.

Review: Phil Weeks, the unstoppable force behind Paris' esteemed Robsoul Recordings is back at it again with the On The Floor EP. The title track on here is one of his fiercer offerings in recent times and could find definite crossover appeal with techno DJs with its relentless and over-compressed stomp, giving it an industrial edge and real dubby feel until that disco sample comes creeping in gradually. Be sure to check this out, it's a killer! It's then business as usual on the loopy and funked up DJ tool "Funk In Your Trunk (Tool)" which puts him up there with DJ Sneak as masters of disco cut-ups. Finally on the flip is the roaring funky-disco house soon to be anthem "Be With U".

Review: Toka Project drop this next biggie on the red hot Robsoul imprint. The a-side's "Gotta Go" is pure bumping funk with wicked shuffling beats, choppy bits of vocal snippets and a wicked vibe that sounds one part Derrick Carter and one part Inland Knights. On the flip "People" is another nasty slab of bumpity house that would easily sit on Tango, Bambino or Drop. Rounding off the EP is "I've Got These Beats", a track that borrows the bassline from Peter Brown's disco classic "Keep On Dancing" and rocks it out deep and funky.

Review: With DJ Sneak set to feature amongst the second round of "Reckless With Your Love" remixes due out on Permanent Vacation next month, consider this EP on Robsoul a chance to familiarise yourself with the daunting Chicago based producer. "Move Your Butt" is the crowd pleaser here, indulging in a cheeky spot of Sisqo sampling but weaving the compressed and slowed down vocals expertly between trademark crisp jacking syncopation. "Dunno Why I Like It" is even more pumping, propelled along by rubbery bass and seemingly infinite diva wails. "Sneakwaves" has a dreamlike vocal sample that undulates with filtered intent around the layered house groove.

Review: Niall Tolliday's resurgent production streak under the formerly dormant Nail guise was in full swing in 2013, gracing the likes of Fear Of Flying, Robsoul, Airdrop and his own Shabby Dolls label with his own brand of sample heavy and funk fuelled house of a decidedly stout persuasion. Given the reception afforded to Block Trax Vol. 1, his debut for Robsoul last year, it's little surprise that Phil Weeks has tapped Tolliday for a second volume which contains more of the same. For anyone that enjoyed Tolliday's work as part of post millennial duo Bent, it's excellent to see him applying similar levels of deft sampling to more floor focused sounds. Block Trax Vol. 2 is primed perfectly for any self respecting house music set.
