Review: A repress here of 2019's under the radar 'Box EP by The enigmatic British producer JS Zeiter, who executed more greyscale dub techno excursions of a typically high caliber on this one. After some spookily sensual ASMR action on intro 'The Code' he continues to build the suspense on the beatless Subarctic Soundscape of 'Darkness Falls' before dropping the power on the cavernous and glacial beats of 'On The Moor'. Flip over and take on more of the frozen seascape on the deeply hypnotic groove of "Empty" before one more emotional ambient outro in the form of 'Endgame'.

Review: Japan's Thinner Groove flesh out their distinctive aesthetic with every new release. This time around, they welcome none other than Lemmi Ash, KOOLMFL and Sonic Weapon for a collaborative three-track EP of lowercase minimal tech and textural vignettes. The aim of the game is best encapsulated in the label's commentary: "each track can add a distinctive touch to the night, as like completing your cocktail with lemon and/or lime". Each track indeed sounds to the ear akin to how a fruity garnish tastes, with Ash's 'Presence' bringing tart citrine breaks notes to a gracefully held glass vessel. KOOLMFL's 'Atonbow' is drier bitters, barely availing itself of its trembling chords and sampled vox after an ultra-snappy initiation featuring a mere bass and kick-clap. Thinner Groove know all too well that good music is like an excitation of the flavour palate, and that minimality is the thing that lets such flavours sit.

This is lively club music that comes from the place where house and techno meet. 'Damn Right' will get you up on your toes with its busy drum programming and soulful synths. 'Reckless' is then unhinged soulful techno with mad chords and bleeps, 'Dance' is an old school, euro-tinged house anthem with big chords and bigger vocals and 'Soundclash' brings a more twisted late night rave sound - all of these tracks are true weapons.

Review: Fresh from serving up some savage "Rave Reworks" on an ultra-limited 12" single, techno's leading number crunchers return with an EP of fresh studio jams. As usual, what's on offer is intense, full-throttle and mind-altering in the extreme. Check, for example, opener (and title track) "000000005", where increasingly ragged, wayward and psychedelic acid lines surge forwards over a stomping, kick-drum dominated beat, or"000000006", an acid techno onslaught that waves a glow-stick towards the Halcyon days of German techno-trance. The acid-fired '90s techno revivalism continues on the flip with two more chunks of sweaty, mind-altering peak-time insanity. Not one for the faint hearted.

Review: The third edition in the mysterious Suoni Incisi series is another exercise in slo-motion tribal trance that would make even the master Donato Dozzy sit up and notice. The A-side cut is sublime ambient techno awash in layers of intricately woven textures, led by a gently bouncing arpeggio. Review: Suoni Incisi is very ably marking itself out as a new school leader in tribal, trance-tinged new age and mind-melting deep techno of the sort that Need and Voices From the Lake have mastered before now. The eponymous artists steps up again here with two more long-form cuts - the first being an undulating, rubbery cut with heady flutes and super-deep bass rotations that sink you into a mindful state immediately. 'Track 2' is no more hurried and again takes a slow-burning approach with languid synths and liquid details peeling off the linear but loose drums. What an EP.

Review: DATA17 is back with more of that irresistible hand-stamped white label minimal and tech house goodness. 'Pour Toi' kick off this particular party with high speed tech funk loops and crashing hits that demand you dance while wonky synth lines unfold up top. The clipped and kinetic funk continues on 'C La Vie' which has distant playground found sounds and balmy pads and 'Sous Influence' that slips down into superbly icy and economical minimal grooves, with nagging leads hooking you in as the militant drums march below. It bangs from the off with his signature heavy drums defining each of the tracks across all four sides of vinyl. '100% Juice' is peak time tackle with incendiary hit hats and loopy synths, 'Slush' is a head melter with more warped lines and elsewhere 'Wonky Workout' does exactly what says on the tin. Review: Following the release of his blisteringly heavy Funfzig album on Rekids last year, Mark Broom returns to Matt Edwards' imprint with a teaser for the hotly anticipated follow-up, 100% Juice. Review: Lowfreq77 is taking no prisoners as he steps up to deliver the second release on Summa Cum Laude. The Italian producer has only emerged in the past few years, despite having dedicated a great deal of his life to producing music. It was clearly worth the wait - "1804" is the kind of fist thumping techno that leaves no body motionless as it rips its way through the dance in a hail of relentless claps and nagging synth hooks. "Rails" meanwhile amps up the Robert Hood style twitchy loops, making this a techno record for those who like their beats pure and unrelenting.

Review: In what could be the biggest techno release of 2013 so far, Geophone delivers a rarely seen VA package, with Mike Parker only appearing in remixed form. Donato Dozzy and Neel's revered Voices From The Lake collaboration supply their first release outside of Prologue with some throbbing brain pulses in "Reptilicus" - much harder sounding than their album material. Shifted's remix to Parker's "Mnajdra" is outrageously Berghain-centric, as mechanically mutated insect buzzes hammer away to scraping and suctioned percussion. Ukrainian artist Stanislav Tolkachev, who is making a name for himself since his track "Building Peaks" on Developer's Modularz settles into Geophone's 19th release with his usual frenetic pace, this time employing thudding drums and melancholic atmospheres likened to Aphex Twin's more emotional material.

Review: Veteran producer and the founder of Planet Mu, u-Ziq (real name Mike Paradinas) presents what is arguably his best album yet, though it will fly under the radar for those who are only interested in his early work. Like something between domestic house, beatific trance, and watery music for Atlantean holiday-letting, 1977 says it's a nostalgia trip to when Paradinas started making music under different monikers, when in actual fact it's the kind of thing we haven't ever heard him do to such an affecting extent. A family affair, Paradinas' partner Meemo Comma's voice peppers the album in a ripplingly soft manner, while a washed-out lounge mood, worthy of re-soundtracking the film Solaris, continues the album's instrumental charge.

Review: Part of the early 80s Sheffield avant-garde scene, In The Nursery was formed at the turn of the decade between twin brothers Nigel and Klive and Humberstone. As living mirror-images, they knew likeness first hand; it seems fitting that they would embrace the imitative, reproductive spirit of industrial music. Under the shared moniker, they would subvert the prevailing mood, agonising grotesque military connotations of an uncertain future by working in a new style, "martial electronica". As heard on this latest set of Recordings made between 1981-1999, their sound was not totally tinny or robotic, making use of cinematic and Romantic tropes in near equal measure to futuristic shock-horrors. From spectacular edge-of-your-seaters ('Stone Souls') to operatic apogees ('Listen') and modish drum machine workouts ('A To I'), this is a comprehensive compilation, just as suited to the spectacular screen as for the auratic DJ set - pick your poison.

Review: You have to admire Alex "Omar" Smith's work rate. He's been slinging out regular releases now for the best part of a decade and shows no sign of slowing down. "1992" is his second EP of 2019 and contains a trio of contrasting cuts in his distinctive, hardware-driven sound. Perhaps the biggest surprise is closing cut "Homey Trinitron", a techno-tempo workout that wraps fuzzy, lo-fi synth motifs around weighty and distorted, ghetto-house influenced drums. He provides a chunk of loose but locked-in deep house drowsiness (see the warm, shuffling and punchy title track), as well as a cheery, piano-driven A-side that's as warm, rush-inducing and anthem-like as anything he's released to date.

This is a third release of such treasures and it focusses on tunes from 1992-1999. Review: Shewey Trax welcomes California-based Delicate Instruments aka Delinstr for a pair of cosmic new cuts that he serves up as two different mixes each. Opener '2 Another Planet' (Superspace Breakdown mix) has sugary video game melodies raining down like old school Mario or Tetris over thudding deep house kicks. The Delisntr Speed Down mix brings some twitchy acid details while 'Solamente' (Problems mix) is another beguiling mix of 8-bit melodies and supple drums that tap out hypnotic patterns while floating through space. Review: With a name like Chiwax you surely know what you're in for right? The German label serves up another Windy City classic by the legendary DJ Skull here - under his birth name Ron Maney - with the 2 Entities EP, originally released back in 1996 on the seminal Relief Records. A classic for those that know, it's got the spooky and minimalist shuffle of "Bring It Home" and the heads- down stomper "Reborn Souls" which is classic DJ Skull all the way, complete with its heady loops underpinned by skipping rhythms. On Side B, "Reconstruction" also has more of a mid-90's Chi-town techno sound, only this one's even more driving and nasty - a proper basement jam to be experienced under the strobe lights.

Review: Phonica Records toasts 20 years in style with this three-disc exploration of the house and techno they're best known for. It's no surprise they were able to pull in a heavyweight cast of characters for this collection, but they've made sure to leave enough room for the stars of tomorrow, too. Familiar names include Daniel Bell, Shy One, Willow, Peggy Gou, Midland, Will Saul and Ron Basejam, but there's also surprise inclusions like Tim Reaper and Comfort Zone teaming up for a signature jungle excursion. This is a heavyweight reflection of everything Phonica has represented for the past two decades, but equally a sign towards where they're heading in the future and it couldn't sound rosier.

Review: Having built his reputation via a trio of must-check EPs on Bokeh Versions, Mars89 transfers to Alex Hall's "mutant electronics" imprint Natural Sciences. The producer is a neat fit on the imprint, with "2020" containing a quartet of creepy, hard-wired, industrial-tinged cuts that seem eerily fitting for these troubled times. He begins with the bone-rattling beats, machine-gun percussion hits, ricocheting metallic clonks and gut-punching bass of "GoodThing", before successfully fusing mutilated industrial sounds and paranoid rhythms on "JoyCamp". Over on side B, "DayOrder" is a strangely swung slab of mind-altering electronica that defies easy description, while "MiniLuv" is a thumping stomp through lo-fi techno territory in the company of a steroid-fired monster.

Review: After launching last year via an arguably overlooked EP from Obsidian, Parallel Connection has made us wait a little while for the London label's second release. It comes courtesy of Sela, a 25-year-old French producer who apparently honed his soon to be trademark sound while living in the UK. There's much to enjoy across the four track missive, from the alien electronics, loose-limbed broken electro beats and chiming lead lines of '2020 Connection' and sub-heavy, acid-flecked stomp of 'Animal Kingdom', to the pitched-down electronica eccentricity of 'Really Get Fucked' and the psychedelic late-night tech-house hedonism of 'Mr Rabbit', which boasts bleeping melodies reminiscent of both mod-90s ambient techno and Yorkshire bleep and bass.

Review: The brand new Hyperdrive label kicks off with a mix of the old and the new - some tracks made recently, some that date back to the 90s, all of them top quality. Liquid Earth opens up with the spaced-out synths and electronic house sounds of '1_HP_D' then Art Of The State gets a little more tranced out and cosmic on '2_HP_D'. Dan Piu's '3_HP_D' is a tech house exploration with wispy sci-fi leads and a playful rhythm then Luis Malon & Seb G combine for the turbo-charged tech of '4_HP_D.' The legendary Freddy Fresh closes down with a high-speed sound on '5_HP_D.' Says the label, "Hyperdrive is dedicated to preserving the rich history of electronic music," and on this evidence, it will do so expertly.

He now shows another side with a fresh offering of dubbed out grooves that find him delicately reinterpreting a pari of tunes from his singer-songwriter double-album Anthems For A Lost which is due early next year. Review: Schiksal is a project from Rudi Huybrechts, a small-town Belgium resident who devoted the 80s to learning his craft as an electronic dance music producer. He got his break in 1988 when Marc Grouls played his track '24 Hours' at Antwerp nightspot Prestige, and thus this record came to be. It's absolutely of the new beat era, but has a certain unconventional flair which often comes with those from more provincial backgrounds. Review: It wasn't long ago that UK dance and hip-hop favourite Mike Skinner topped up his corpus with '3 Minutes To Midnight' and its complement 'Breakfast At Tiffany's', juxtaposing an intense post-garage flair on the former track with a sense of contemporary romance on the latter. It has been plucked from the annals of time - and out of the hands of the second hand market sharks - for reissue on Distangled, a sub-label of Dutch imprint Frame Of Mind. 'Data Society' is perfectly supple and seductive bleep techno for mind-melting 4am trips and the rest of the superb EP touches on lo-fi dub techno on '3D Bingo', peak time cosmic cruises like 'Child Wave' and bumping party pumpers such as 'Fashion F.' 'Xtra Tall Tee' has a physical, unrelenting low end with just the right amount of distortion to make it sleazy, and is overlaid with hurried synth sequins that bring neon light and curious energy while some scratchy background vocal and raw as hell snares finish it in perfect style. Review: The beauty of pure, hard hitting techno is laid bare across the four high grade weapons served up on this new EP from Mode 1, the Irish DJ resident at Subject Dublin and District 8. His drums are taught and canter like a race horse while synths that range from edgy and stone lit on "Sonntag" to trippy and spaced out on "The Road Back" add the detail. "Fallen" is an industrial sousing loop-fest that leaves you brilliantly disorientated and "Watchers" gets more lo-fi and gritty, with a more stripped back sound that is no less compelling.

Review: 2023 was a knockout year for Portuguese artist Temudo, taking in techno totems like Blueprint, Klockworks and Hayes in pursuit of his driving, sharply-focused sound. Now he lands on Italian label Sublunar with more of that refined, precision engineered gear for the wormhole crew. 'U Where My Second Choice' is a taut, edgy workout with a nagging synth hook, but 'Asset 2' ratchets down to a pure, heady locomotion which will take you tunnelling deep into the night. '2029' has a restrained funk which will work the body good and proper, and 'Affection' simmers down to a minimal palette peppered with pointed blips moving in expertly sequenced formations - smart techno at its finest.

Review: Iceland's Thule offshoot label 66 Degrees was a vital label back in the day. After a 20-year hiatus, it came back strong in August and now follows up quickly with a second superb EP. This one is a carefully curated various artists collection that pulls together some local house anthems new and old. Ozy's 'Sequential Dub' is a super smooth deep house number with lush chord work. Sanasol brings heavier, more raw house drums and grinding bass that will get floors in a sweat. Oz Artists mixes up a raw, mechanical groove with balmy, dreamy pads up top to make for something utterly compelling on 'Atomox; while last of all Terry Cummingz pays homage to dusty Windy City house on his perfectly lo-fi 'Cherry Bon Bon. Review: The undisputed godfather of Australian techno Cam Bianchetti aka DJ HMC has enjoyed a deserved second coming under his Late Nite Tuff Guy guise but this is where it all started with these two classics. First track "6AM" originally released in 1996 is a true mid-nineties zeitgeist that could have been spawned during an evening at the Packard plant in Detroit, but actually conceived in Adelaide. It's overdriven acid backed by the pounding kick and metallic hiss of a 909 just like Plus 8 Records were doing back in the day. What can be said about 'Marauder' that hasn't already? It's resurgence as a Berghain anthem in the last few years is well deserved. This rendition being a much more serious and restrained version than the 2001 version. Get your hands on this timeless piece of history.
