Review: To get away from the 'one track after the other' compilation concept K&D checked in at Havlis Super Sound where their man Alex (don of the echo chambers) has a secret dub-laboratory. There K&D did a dub session on the selected tracks to inject some dynamics and life into it. They took two bottles of Highland Park whisky and their old dub-echoes from the cellar and did a smoked-out dub echo-orgy.

Review: Blackalicious' debut into recorded hip-hop has come to be acknowledged as a seminal album of the 1990's. Chief XCel (in collaboration with DJ Shadow at times) does what should be unthinkable (as he does on Nia and Blazing Arrow as well somehow), and provides beats that match up to the aptly-named Gift of Gab's sensational flow. Guest appearances by Asian Born and Lateef the Dread Piper (known these days as Lyrics Born and Lateef the Truth Speaker respectively) round out the album. This is the double vinyl Mo Wax version, containing an extra mix of the classic "Swan Lake". Don't miss!

Review: Next in the series of Downwards re-releases is a big one. After a long time out of press, Surgeon's debut LP "Communications" gets re-rubbed with brand new label art and a limited edition clear vinyl pressing (400 copies only). Anyone who knows the history of either Downwards or indeed of Surgeon himself will recognise what a landmark release this was, a clear statement of intent that caused dramatic ripples in the larger techno pond, and ultimately led to his further relationships with Tresor, and high-profile remixes for the likes of Dave Clarke and The Advent etc. Essentially this is an album that shows a hugely important point in his artistic development. Six tracks of raw, metallic techno, created using incredibly simple equipment (usually just one drum machine, one keyboard, and one reverb unit) but where the whole is considerably more than the sum of its parts.

Review: Wall of Sound originally dropped the Give 'em Enough Dope series way back in the nineties. Volume Three came in 1996 and is known amongst fans as ofd the best best of the lot. It rounds up house, big beat, downtempo, jungle, drum & bass and more from a wide array of artists. The whole thing is now being reissued on double vinyl and CD and features plenty of classics from enduring names like Les Rythmes Digitales, Q-Burns Abstract Message, Russ Gabriel's Audio Spectrum*, basement jazz, Faze Action and many more. A real classic from the vaults, for sure.

Review: Back in stock. Mika's amazing treasure box of rare Sahko music unleashes another wicked slab of cracked Nordic bass explosions and abstract melodica, this dating from 1995. Summertime writing for Helsinki residents probably means they get an extra half hour of daylight a day which might explain the slightly warmer glow emitting from the tracks on "Olento". Wrapped in a unique debossed card sleeve, inside you'll find the CD inside another card holder (in cool shades of green). Enough designer lifestyle, the music will give your bass cones as much abuse as "Metri" but where that album locked you in your fridge and left your there "Olento" subtly increases the variance on tempo as the micro tech bump tracks swing more, the downtempo tracks make you feel hazed up and flowery and the ambience injects a certain Eno warmth. An amazing re-issue to file next to "Metri" and "Kantamoinen". Mika's 2005 glow will intensify even more this summer when Pan.Sonic's long muted collaboration with Suicide's Alan Vega drops on Mego, stand well back these fireworks can sting! Essential.

Review: After his surprise drop with music writer and producer Blackdown on the Keysound label last month, the enigmatic Burial is now back with a fresh new EP all of his own. It comes on his longtime home of Hyperdub and features two more of his deft designed, ghostly deep dubstep post-nightbus joints. 'Chemz' is a strict raver filled with rushed up sounds, plenty of dance floor love and big hooks that is many different tracks, moods and vibes all rolled into one. As always, these Burial sounds look back to go forwards and do so in thrilling fashion.

In 1981 he recorded "E2 - E4" completely solo in his West Berlin Studio, live, in "one go" and without any later editing, over-dubs or such. Inspired by American minimal music artists like Steve Reich, Phillip Glass and Terry Riley. A piece of Music was created that would years after influence and change the whole electronic music scene.

Review: Japanese production duo Kudo and Toshino Nakanishi (aka Major Force) were early pioneers of the cut & paste ethos, predating the likes of Cut Chemist by almost a decade. This retrospective of their best work was collected by Mo Wax boss James Lavelle and issued as a luxury 5 LP box set. Here available for the first time as individual vinyl pieces, it represents an essential collection of b-boy gems (with a few dope house trax for good measure) all of which easily sit alongside classics of the genre from the likes of Double D & Stienski and Coldcut.

soundtrack & dialogue from cult cartoon series
Review: The incredible soundtrack to an even more incredible cartoon is now back in stock again. Original soundtrack and dialogues from the well-known TV cartoon series. Viva La Felicita - Viva Happiness! Vinyl debut for Signor Rossi! For the first time since the seventies this soundtrack with its intelligent and full-of-fantasies musical ideas by Franco Godi and his Ensemble is available now. Signor Rossi was an Italian-made cartoon (1975-1978) from Bruno Bozetto consisting of 3 series of 12 episodes each. The cartoons told of the adventures of Signor Rossi and his doggy pal Gastone and their quest for happiness in all manner of places (and times) such as the Stone Age, the Middle Ages and the future and encountering all kinds of characters including Zorro, Tarzan, Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes, Aladdin and many more. The music from Franco Godi (aka "Mister Jingle" - from his work on a variety of advertising music) perfectly conveys playfulness and light-hearted adventures and uses a variety of styles and signatures to match Signor Rossi's adventures. There's also a few dialogue samples from the cartoon and some versions of the tracks that were recorded for export to Germany.

Everything You Do Is A Balloon
Review: Boom! Finally another reissue of Boards Of Canada's seminal Hi Scores LP from 1996! Along with the likes of Aphex Twin, LFO and Squarepusher, these guys have helped to define how we see electronic music today and this particular LP is arguably their most complete when it comes to the dancefloor. The title track is a twisted, floaty bindle of breaks and beats, but it doesn't end there. Tracks like "Nlogax" are inherently Detroitian in nature thanks to the bleepy drum machines inside, and all we can say is that if you haven't laid hands on this album yet, you shouldn't miss the opportunity to cop it now. It's still so relevant and contemporary, it hurts.

Review: After some 12" releases with repetitive, subtle grooves and sound textures Hallucinator uses the space offered on this CD to fill it up with its complete musical vision. Previously released tracks can be found between new, exclusive material. 'Landlocked' is a reminder for the fact that repetition doesn't necessarily mean boredom.
