Pop
Review: The Pet Shop Boys, a renowned English pop duo, have announced the release of their second single, "Dancing Star," from their forthcoming album, Nonetheless. Besides the captivating main single the extended single features two vibrant and infectious pop dance B-sides in 'the uplifting 'Sense of Time' and the energetic and euphoric sound of 'If Jesus Had a Sister.' These songs showcase the artist's versatility and ability to blend different musical elements to create a cohesive and captivating listening experience. DJ superstar DJ Solomun and Superchumbo apply their talents to each remixing 'Dancing Star' for some major play in the clubs. With its diverse offerings, the album caters to a wide range of music lovers, inviting them to dance, dream, and lose themselves in the world of electronic dance music.

Review: If you've caught either Khruangbin or Leon Bridges live before, or indeed listened to anything by either band or producer-singer-songwriter, you'll know where this 20-minute EP is heading. The sleeve art, which gives more than a nod to the 1960s hippy movement, also offers a major clue.

Tripped out, smoked out, lackadaisical, bliss-infused overtures, honied and syrupy, easing you in so far that you don't quite realise how hard it is to crawl back out of the sugar-coated opiate haze. A collection of heady, hallucinogenic work for 21st Century high plains drifters, it's jazzy, psychy, lush soulful fare you'll be wanting to hear again and again, capturing the heat and slow pace of America's southern states with heartfelt songwriting from genuine masters. The result is something very special indeed.

Review: The hype machine may have kicked into overdrive at the announcement of a new Aphex Twin EP, but after all there's a reason we all get so excited. Richard D. James is just a rare sort of artist - one who can wrench untold depth, detail and feeling from the oddest of angles and still keep it rave-ready in the process. It's been a while since we had some new material from the Cornish wonder, but now he's gifting us four fresh slabs of braindance par excellence which bristle with his distinctive touch. Those subtle microtonal shifts in the melodies, the particular flair with which the drums are dissected, the overall head-spinning tapestry of the whole thing - no one does it quite like Aphex, and this CD single gives you his considerable skills in the highest definition.

Fragments Of Reincarnation (2023)
Review: Sheffield-based experimental label Another Timbre is reissuing some of their most sought-after CDs, starting with this collaboration between Berlin-based Japanese composer and reeds player Michiko Ogawa and cellist, composer and noted classical-electronic fusionist Lucy Railton. Designed as an exercise in creating musical magic using just three musical elements - cello, organ and sho (a Japanese reed instrument) - Fragments of Reincarnation is an evocative, atmospheric and at times hypnotic piece that sits somewhere between cutting-edge modern classical, ambient and immersive sound design. The interplay between the cello and sho, gently dancing atop a bed of sustained organ chords, is particularly impressive.

Review: Following on from their critically acclaimed debut album, 'Voices Of Animals And Men', Young Knives release their hotly anticipated follow up 'Superabundancet'. A muscular clatter of pulsing guitars, head-spinning percussive thuds and harmonic, brotherly vocals provide the backbone to a rich throng of giddy, excited ideas and ageless, wry lyrical themes. 'Up All Night', released on Transgressive label, is the second single to be released from the album after the infectious, radio friendly single 'Terra Firma' and follows in its footsteps jumping up the playlists weeks ahead of release.

Review: DFA release 'Emily', the second single to be taken from Shocking Pinks' self titled debut album. Bittersweet and vulnerable, 'Emily' is a hypnotic and moody song that tells the age-old story of longing, jealousy and heartache, in Nick Harte's distinctive shoe-gaze style. It's one of the most personal moments on the record, with a beautiful and fragile overtone covering the rough layers of distortion and noise. The single comes backed with an exclusive cover of Magnetic Fields 'Nothing Matters When We're Dancing', plus remixes of album track 'Cutout' and 'Dressed to Please'. The remixes range from Expanding Head Band (ex-Tussle member Alexis Georgopoulos) and disco-edit scenester Lee Douglas, to techno favourites Deepchord / Echospace and Nathan Fake.

Crooked Spine
Review: Labrador brings you 'Final Say', the Second single from Sambassadeur's masterpiece 'Migration'. This is their most luxurious track to date. With Miami Vice-percussion, a choir that seems to be singing underground, galloping guitar 'Final say' is bound to dominate any tasteful dance floors in the year 2008. Pop group Sambassadeur revealed a not-so-subtle shift in direction with the summer's 'Subtle Changes' single. The next single from the band's U.S.-bound sophomore album, Migration, is another ambitious step away from the understated post-Velvet Underground twee pop of 2005's Sambassadeur or 2006's 'Between the Lines EP'. Instead, 'Final Say' embraces the thrift-shop glamour of Saint Etienne, whose sample-dropping dance-pop influence happily seems to have been prevalent lately in Sambassadeur's hometown of Gothenburg. 'Final say' is backed by the brand track 'Crooked spine'. It's one of very few songs guitarist/songwriter Daniel have sung since their debut album, and possibly the best he’s put his vocals on to date. Imagine a collaboration between early Jesus and Mary Chain, Abba and Carol King produced by Phil Spector and you'll have a slight idea.

Out on Deal, 'Sorry' is taken from Kaskade's third album 'Love Mysterious'. Though his trademark melodies, sensual vocalists, and emotionally driven sound remain intact, 'Love Mysterious' is a bolder production and reflective of Kaskade's growing acclaim and popularity worldwide. Love Bites (Andy Votel remix - video)
Review: This is a collaboration between one of the UK's best kept musical secrets and one the UK's most renowned purveyors of weird and wonderful. Will Tang, a singer/songwriter, guitarist and blues harmonica guru teams up with Manchester DJ, producer and Twisted Nerve label boss, Andy Votel, to produce one of the most eclectic releases we've seen. Votel, who likes to dabble on the musical fringes, has managed to mould Will's rootsy acoustic style with a furious tommy-gun break beat to create an unlikely concoction of whiskey soaked blues sensibilities underpinned with a killer dancefloor groove. Will, who has English and Chinese roots, is virtually a household name in Hong Kong. With a thirteen year career and five albums under his belt, Will's unique style, which draws on elements of everything from blues, jazz, rock, pop to hip-hop, has garnered much interest in the UK, including that of Votel, whose previous remixing duties include the likes of Elbow, Broadcast, Badly Drawn Boy, and Ian Brown.

Review: Rameses III are architects of the most beautiful swathes of blissful ambience. "Honey Rose" have the South London trio build a soundtrack to Jon Spira's mysterious short film "Suityman". Whilst the influence of Bruce Langhorne, Boxhead Ensemble and much of the 4AD roster can be keenly felt on this six song EP, so too can the wondrous drone narratives that are such a feature of Rameses III's previous works. More structured and melodious then much of their output, "Honey Rose" is the perfect place for a newcomer to begin exploring the music of one of the finest purveyors of ambient drone operating in music today.

Sweet Nothing
Review: "Ghosts" is the third single to be taken from the Ghosts album "The World Is Outside". Ghosts first met at school and have been together, in one guise or another, ever since. It is little wonder, then, that the music sounds so self-assured, and so very accomplished - ecstatic melodies, sugar-spun choruses and a precise understanding of pop music and all its infinite nuances.

Review: The Saturday Knights are a culmination of three freaks, a jaw-jacking combination of performing personalities: storyteller and entertainer Tilson, who can tickle any lady's funny bone; low-income yarn spinner and urban graffiti poet Barfly; and pumped up by the big beats and psychedelic turntable-artist, DJ Suspence.

Review: "Employee Of The Month", by The Anomalies, sounds like a cross between Jamie T, Just Jack and a cockney Arctic Monkeys. "Employee Of The Month" is more on the indie tip, while "Hats And Glasses" features funky breakbeats.

Suburban Knights (Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso mix)
Review: Hard Fi are back! They return with one of the singles of the year, "Suburban Knights". The first track to be taken from their eagerly awaited second studio LP "Once Upon A Time In The West", it's a blistering, electro-urban psalm of rousing hooks and genre-spanning sounds that's set to define the summer and dominate airwaves. Written by frontman Richard Archer and co-produced by Richard with Wolsey White, the new single is a welcome return for the critically acclaimed four-piece. "Suburban Knights" was mixed by Spike Stent, whose previous credits include U2, Bjork and Madonna.

Review: "Bleed It Out", by Linkin Park, is the second single to be taken from their chart-topping third album "Minutes To Midnight". "Bleed It Out" was co-produced by Mike Shinoda and Rick Rubin (U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Run DMC) and recorded at the infamous Mansion at Laurel Canyon. This is Linkin Park at the peak of their powers.
