Review: The Prism is an aluminum cube, small enough to fit in your palm. It was designed by Nicolas Jaar as a new medium for releasing music. The first release - CSA001 - features 12 (mostly) unreleased songs from Jaar and other Clown & Sunset collaborators.
The Prism is a piece of art in and of itself; its contents beg to be shared. Twin headphone outlets encourage connections to the object and between the 2 listeners. The Prism tries to restore physicality to the listening experience. The medium and the method are as important as the music itself. Review: Downwards co-founder Peter Sutton has spent the last 25 years carving his own dark, heavy and intense niche within UK techno. Yet despite achieving cult status within techno circles, he has never received the wider acclaim that has rightly been bestowed upon his Birmingham contemporaries Regis and Surgeon, despite a trademark style that closely resembles theirs. Pleasures That Kill, an expansive five-disc box set that contains pretty much every track Sutton has released on Downwards and Sandwell District, is a much-needed attempt to redress the balance. Packed to the rafters with pulsating, twisted, all-action techno slammers, the set also contains an entire disc of previously unreleased music - specifically a rare recording of Sutton's 2000 live collaboration with Regis. For diehard fans, the set is worth buying for that CD alone.

Review: Due to the sheer volume of work he built up during his lifetine, there have already been multiple box sets looking back on the career of the late, great industrial and noise maverick Marco Corbelli AKA Atrax Morgue. By our count, "The Silver Box" is the fifth such collection in as many years, though it's undoubtedly the most expansive yet. The wooden box contains no less than nine CDs covering 20 of Corbelli's most sought-after releases, many of which originally appeared on ultra-limited tapes in the 1990s. For fans of extreme noise, minimalist electronic experimentation (Corbelli famously used a very limited amount of equipment in his work) and ear-bleeding sonic movements, it's undoubtedly a must-have item.

Even so, he's never recorded or released anything this ambitious before: a vast box set containing no less than 10 brand-new, previously unheard albums, all of which were composed and recorded between 2018 and 2020 and have women's voices at their core. It's hugely ambitious, not least because the various suites that make up the 10 albums vary in tone and style, mix free improvisation with more considered compositions, and make use of musical sounds from all four corners of the world, as well as extended solo works for piano and voice. Review: Disputed and celebrated: Hermann Nitsch, Actionist and painter, composer and stage designer. He is one of the most renowned Austrian artists of today and nevertheless still divides the art world as before. Nitsch belongs beside Günter Brus, Otto Mühl and Rudolf Schwarzkogler to the most important main actors of Viennese Actionism. At the beginning of the sixties he carried out his first 'Actions' in Vienna, which involved several trials and three terms of imprisonment. His main work, the "Orgy Mystery Theatre", inspired by Greek mythology, as well as by Antonin Artaud and Sigmund Freud, has been introducing, building up and carrying on all art forms since this time. On this DVD there is a 4-hour overview of all 'Actions' of 1962-2003, as well as an interview from 2005. The 80-page book (German/English) with a text by Florian Schreiner and numerous photos explains the theoretical basis of Nitsch's work. Review: While Frank Zappa and his Mothers of Invention band made deliciously wild, weird and eccentric records, their freewheeling brand of psychedelic, progressive and garage-rock fusion was taken to a whole level in their live performances. It's for this reason that Filimore East, a 1971 live set containing highlights from two shows recorded in the same venue over consecutive nights, is such a fan favourite. To celebrate the 50th (well, now 51st) birthday of the album, we've been treated to a deluxe edition that showcases both shows in full - John Lennon and Yoko Ono-sporting encore included - over six CDs. Review: Toby Amies' documentary In The Court Of The Crimson King takes a deep look at one of the true totems of British prog rock, King Crimson. As the band notches up half a century of existence, this portrait of Robert Fripp and assorted collaborators is one of those rare rock films which has an appeal beyond the die-hard fanbase. However, for the fans there is still a lot to savour, and this extensive box set is the best way to do it. Alongside the actual film there is an abundance of additional footage, two full live performances and exclusive music which is all spread over four CDs. If you love King Crimson, this is the box set for you.
