Maggot Brain Magazine #15
Cat: 994595

This cover feature is a career-spanning piece by Tamara Palmer on Bjork, with a terrifically gorgeous cover image by Marly Beyer
Notes: -BJORK: This cover feature is a career-spanning piece by Tamara Palmer on Iceland's most noted export since the foundation of their parliament in 930, with a terrifically gorgeous cover image by Marly Beyer. -MARCELLUS HALL delivers a 30-plus page excerpt from a graphic novel about life in indie-rock in the early 1990s that's stunning and lyrical.

-Hot on the heels of their world tour, it's an engaging photo essay from Detroit's premier music photographer Doug Coombe on the return of garage punk heroes BE YOUR OWN PET. -Mike Turner spends serious time with BMX champion CHELSEA WOLFE, right when she might be suspended from competition for being trans. -Ana Gavrilovska digs deep into the work of up-and-coming multimedia artist WAYNE PHOENIX. -Uncharacterizable instrumental musicians PENGUIN CAFE are back (under the direction of originator Simon Jeffes' son Arthur Jeffes) and Kurt Reighley is writing beautifully on them. (Their first two records for Eno's label are The Shit.) Cassette tape reviews; Lucy Sante delivers a tribute to the olden days of mp3 blogs.

Mimi Lipson weighs in on cats versus dogs in her advice column; Andy Beta talks of Annea Lockwood in the Icons column; the reissue of the issue is a box set of Pauline Anna Strom, by Michelle Dove; Fred Thomas on "why Sonic Youth's most underrated record deserves a second look" (guess which one it is!); an overview of reissue label Mesh Key for a new column on the people who run labels and stuff like that. In the new column Tracked (on music supervisors) Martin Douglas talks to Tiffany Anders, and it's largely about her work on RESERVATION DOGS! Then there's the column PHYSICAL GRAFFITI by editor McGonigal, an epic look at dozens of recent LP releases plus a few books (that's right, it's a bona fide multi-page record review column), plus the debut of Maggot Brain's food column with a disastrous visit to the Russian Tea Room courtesy of noted genius QUINTRON.

Zweikommasieben Magazin #17

Feat Alessandro Cortini, Anna Homler, Christoph Fringeli, John Maus, Peter Rehberg, Russell Haswell & more!
Notes: In the 17th issue of zweikommasieben something that has been apparent from the beginning of the magazine - whose credo is to study the present - only seems increasingly true: in the supposed present, temporalities overlap and intersect. They burst out, reaching at once backwards and forwards.

The magazine features interviews with John Maus about the six years between the release of his last two albums, with Anna Sagstrom and Daniel Iinatti of Country Music discussing accelerationist force of globalization or with Alessandro Cortini on the private retrospective of 1970s Italy in Avanti. In those conversations the nature of time shows itself as enigmatic, fragmented and displaced.

On top, this issue features interviews with Anna Homler, Errorsmith, Further Reductions, Gabber Eleganza, Jasss, Ossia, Peter Rehberg and Renick Bell; conversations with Russell Haswell and between Christoph Fringeli, Simon Crab and Nigel Ayers; a portrait on Mmodemm; an essay by DeForrest Brown Jr.; columns on gender in dancehall ("Basslines"), authenticity of field recordings ("Track Down Fiction"), pictures from Georg Gatsas ("We Are Time") as well as poetry with "Sound Texts"; and contributions by Angoisse, Ipek Gorung & Ceramic TL and Jay Glass Dubs.

In zweikommasieben #17, the nature of time also shows itself in the design-a design initially looking for an aesthetic of speed but ultimately as much a reflection of pausing as of deceleration and acceleration. And in this attempt to give form to time, there's also the primordial-musical moment.

Feat Chuck Krall, We The People, Coloured Balls, The Kameras & more!
Notes: For this issue, legendary rock photographer Chuck Krall (Creem, Rock Scene, Rolling Stone) opened his archive to us including rare and unseen photos from the 1970s (the Ramones, Bo Diddley, Arthur Lee, the Dead Boys, Flamin' Groovies, Link Wray and more), and also shares his remarkable story.

We also have feature stories on Florida '60s garage gods We the People, Aussie proto-punk hard rockers Coloured Balls, mercurial blues guitar master Michael Bloomfield, New England '60s teen crazies Rasputin & the Mad Monks, obscure UK new wavers the Kameras, cult private press psych/hard rock band Seiche, and the early Pretty Things remembered by their first manager, Bryan Morrison.

And look for our expansive, mind-bending interviews with Cleveland proto-punk legend Craig Bell (Mirrors, Rocket From The Tombs), eccentric pop genius Brute Force, and the late Don Grady (My Three Sons, Yellow Balloon).

All this and more, including our eagerly pored over review sections covering the latest reissues and rock-related books.
