Review: Move over Ross From Friends;' Brain De Palma is the newest and most hilarious dance name to hit wide-scale public consciousness in recent memory. This time, the fun and slippery house music producer stops off over at Peggy Gou's new Gudu Records, delivering yet another lovable pun - 'Purple Brain' - to a surrealists' pipe dream, and four tracks of synthpop preciousness. Beachside cocktails and jelly glimmer in the sun as we take in the sonic glory of 'Purple Brain', which reminds us equally of the style of mysterious artist E. Myers blended with the 8-bit uplift of Cold Beat or Anamanaguchi. Choice cut two is 'Once Were Dancers', an arpy, farty, renegade dance bit suitable for much fruity ocean-skimming and saucy skinny-dips.

Review: After being commissioned to produce several 'interlocking' ambient pieces for an art gallery piece in LA, Brian Foote and Sage Caswell decided to take the concept of 'audience crossfading' to the next level, creating an entire ambient album using a particular sonic technique. Over five long pieces from 'Waterwheel' to 'Smiley', their aim was to evoke the feeling of bodies moving in thoroughfares. The tracks are long-exposed movements captured in ambient space, blending rhythms and soundscapes for chillout rooms that exist only in memory now.

Review: Zon Records has released music digitally before, though this is the first time the wilfully eclectic Belgian label - and the producers behind the label, also called Zon - has made it onto wax. As vinyl debuts go, it's pretty good. They set their stall out with title track 'Keys For Days', a warming and sun-splashed slab of tech-tinged deep house peppered with warming chords, jazzy synth-bass and subtle TB-303 motifs, before diving into deeper, more immersive territory on the gorgeous, sunrise-ready 'Spring Break' (featuring vocalisations from Lotte Sarembe). Over on the reverse, 'Upon Us' is an analogue-rich chunk of deep tech-house, while Ukrainian producer Kirik's remix of the same track is a far more bass-heavy, tactile and otherworldly affair.

Review: The latest project of Massive Attack's Robert Del Naja - better known as 3D - Battle Box "fuses music, art and discourse across one-off live events, exhibitions and exclusive vinyl releases". The first 12" sees the producer team up with Elbow vocalist Guy Garvey to deliver an intriguing original, whose rumbling bassline and clattering organic drums seem indebted to the Four Tet school of house music production, existing in a hazy interzone between genres. On the flip, Hotflush and Hemlock artist Guy Andrews offers his own take on the track, a lurching tech-house behemoth whose swung rhythm and grizzled bass is offset by the kind of atmospherics that Del Naja himself would be impressed with

Girls (Ricardo Tobar remix)
Review: Whilst record label offshoots of mp3 blogs are de rigueur these days, first wave French blog Fluokids were ahead of the curve when they launched Fool House back in 2008. Their fifth release sees them plunder Scandinavia for the idiosyncratic sounds of Taragana Pyjarama, a young Danish producer who expertly blends house rhythms with organic hypnotic melodies. Whilst the name - inspired by a Roxy Music track - might be a mouthful, the music is delightful. Those of you whose bookmarks are filled with mp3 blogs will recognise "Girls" which first surfaced on the more discerning hypem huggers last summer and newly remastered here sounds just as beautiful. Sitting somewhere between the techno brilliance of DJ Koze and the Border Community stable and the woozy narcosis of acts like Blondes, "Girls" retains a certain timeless quality, with warmth that always grabs you fully. Ricardo Tobar of the aforementioned Border Community imprint remixes the track and stamps it with a glistening dancefloor sensibility whilst retaining the qualities that make the original so appealing. The young producer - previously known for Hivern Disc output as Eim Ick - includes two further original tracks includung the breathtaking "Sudanese Blonde". Tres Bien!

Review: Life on the road, with all the intense highs and lows that go with it, can make for an intriguing creative environment. So when a travelling band of Minus artists, including Heartthrob, Troy Pierce and Gaiser - touring and hanging out together during 2006 - started bouncing ideas off of each other and reworking tracks, it became essential to harness this energy in some way. "MVS1" is the first instalment in a series of collectable EPs designed to document these spontaneous, unpredictable and potentially explosive collaborations.

Review: Fuse London head honcho Enzo Siragusa is back with the Sanctuary EP, exploring his love of minimal house sounds and he comes up real well on this one, displaying another transition in his studio skills. The shuffling, exotic, Romanian influenced groove of "Double Dove" is the best evidence of this. It's more typical Siragusa fair on the druggy and deep after-hours jam "Solo" which rolls and shuffles along quite nicely. Finally "Gemini" is a vinyl only exclusive; a tough and rolling deep house groove with sombre and ethereal atmospherics to boot.

Review: Ukranian minimal wunderkind Mulen is back and we too are rubbing our hands in excitement every time he releases something new of late. Sometimes going under the name iO, sometimes iO (Mulen) and now Mulenv (just to confuse us!) but either way: it's always quality. "Blindness" is the rolling, funky, breaks driven and hypnotic groove as heard on his recent Jam EP on Propaganda. On the flip "The Cutter" follows in suit with its jagged rhythm and hip hop samples but is much deeper and suited more for the morning set where things get properly weird.

Review: Meander has been one of minimal and tech houses most vital labels over the years. It has remained low key but high quality and now gets a big selection of names to continue to this third edition of their Family Jubilee series. First up is the master minimalist and cult hero Christi Cons. 'For No Reason' is a lush symphony of starry-eyed synths and crispy tech drums that bring real class to the dance floor. Topper's 'Bell Without A Cow' is a more whacked out, dreamy number that draws you into its waify pads and skeletal drums and keeps you there. 'Estromanium' is a typically tight and kinetic closer from DeWalta.

Review: Ukranian imprint Tvir has certainly branched out from the more arcane 'Rominimal' influenced sounds it was putting out a few years back, with recent releases featuring Offenbach's Bodin & Jacob from the Traffic crew, and ascendant Belgian tech house producer Jerome C. On the Polybius various artists EP, the A side belongs to Frenchman Raphael Beneluz aka Prince De Takicardie (Twig / Cartulis) who serves up the mid '90's Frankfurter trance vibes of 'LSD' followed by the sci-fi electro bounce of the title track. On the flip, it's all about label boss Komponente with Kurilo, who were in particularly fine form on the moody afterhours rave energy of 'Antagonist'.

Review: Sobek is a name familiar to those who like their tech house stripped back, and now the man born Marton Csere brings his underground funk to Germany's Monaberry. 'Casio Samples' is a track that traps you in a state of trance thank to its looping bassline that is forever tumbling away, while crisp drums keep things moving. Add in withering sci-fi pad and you have a superbly futuristic sound. There are deeper, water more heads down grooves in 'Ruler Of The Line' and tripped out delights on 'Legend Of Outer Pace' while a Tyu remix of this one brings some weird and wonderful design to a fine EP.

Review: Weirdtracx out of Argentina reaches release number three and with it continues to bring freshness to the world of minimal and tech house. Matias Chaple Aka Matichap is one of the members of chapsenza (from the Relik label) and has an infectious style when working solo. 'Balance' is slick, funky deep and cosmic house music with interesting sound design and hooky motifs to draw you in. 'Hybrid' is more cosmic funk with cyber sounds, deep bass and driving beats while 'Light' continues in that trend of being both heady yet physical music with plenty of curious details. 'Molecular' closes out with the most high speed groove of the lot, but picking a favourite here is futile - all do a fine job.

Review: The Wigflex label, born out of a peerless, many-limbed operation in Nottingham, has been a little dormant of late. The last release, 2015's Wigflex City Monsters compilation, came out as a limited edition toy and cassette double pack - this is a crew who like to do things differently. Now they're back, presenting the relatively unknown Son Of Philip, whose sound features the kind of full-frequency synth warbles that might well trigger latent Border Community fans. Across three original tracks, Son Of Philip explores a sensitive sound which feels like a comfy fit on Wigflex. To keep things spicy though, the mighty Actress steps up on the B2 to deliver a dusty, thumping techno version of 'Rubber Stamp'.

Review: The young Coventry based party throwers behind the Motoring label continue to shift along nicely here as they glide into fourth gear with a new one from Ali Whitticase. This EP marks the imprint's most foray into vinyl and Birmingham based Ali Whitticase does it justice with his title track finding a sweet spot between deep house and minimal tech. Jordan Masters remixes into something more busy and bustling, with sci-fi pads and busy drum work. A Jos remix then reworks the tune into a more airy dub techno jam and 'Saucy Thoughts' has a lovely bassline that rides up and down the scale to soothing effect.

Review: Italian artist Mennie has worked with Julien Sandre on a number of occasions, as well as landing on Rawax, Moscow and Adult Only and now debuts on Infuse. His style is too maximal for minimal but too stripped back to be fully fledged house tackle, so straddles a nice divide between the too. There's plenty of interesting sound design to help make these tracks pop, from the trippy put pads to the squelch bass, the muffled vocals to the bendy sine waves. It's all music that works as well for the head as it does the heel and is a fine addition to any decent record bag.

Radar (James Dexter remix) (7:47)
Review: If you've not come across Jhns before, there's a good reason: the producer's only previous release was a digital-only collaboration with Sam Gittis on Dub Forest. He could well be a producer to watch in 2021 though, because this debut solo outing on Inermu Wax is pretty good. He sets the tone smartly via 'Dreams', a smart, smooth and sparse tech-house box jam that's as hypnotic as it is gently alluring, before opting for a more glitchy, wonky and off-kilter style of tech-house drug0chug on 'Off Course'. 'Radar' is a dreamier and more positive-sounding affair that doffs a cap to late '90s UK tech-house, while James Dexter's accompanying remix brings the track bang up to date whilst retaining some of its more ear-catching melodic elements.

Review: Following the explosive Direkt EP last summer, Rowle Music's vinyl-only project Abduction return to their V/A roots with four fresh flavours from exciting new acts hailing from every corner of the minimal galaxy. Userunknwn and Soyro tag team for a silky dubbed out adventure that's not dissimilar to Sascha Dive. Romanian newcomer Bucurie follows with a slab of psychedelic breaks before we flip for two more dark gems. Rares Romanov taps into that hip-shaking, conga-fuelled Luciano vibe before Cerec closes the show on the warmest tip of the set. Bouncy, fat but still stripped back, think Swayzak or Luke Solomon's output from the early 2000s and you're in the right playground. Bon voyage.

"Joko" is up first, getting a buoyant seeing-to by Andhim who injects the track with all kinds of nerve-jangling excitement. There are MIDI brass stabs, lush pads and a percussive workout to get people working the floor with all their might. "Line" gets a more tender touch from Till Von Sein, whose playful approach is imbued with sunshine and good vibes while sporting a little Balearic slouch in its easy tempo and airy atmosphere.

Review: The Sushitech festivities continue unabated with this bittersweet repress of an all-time classic from the much-missed Detroit figurehead Mike Huckaby. 'Baseline '87' ranks amongst his most fabled works, riding as it does around an irresistibly catchy square wave bass hook and one of those no-nonsense beats that the legendary producer did so well. For the sound of Huckaby in full flight though, 'Musik For The Dancefloor' on the flip soars thanks to the interplay between the pads and chords while retaining that steadfast focus. In memory of a true dance music hero, why not revisit a classic that should be comfortably sat in every record bag?

This sixth transmission is another candidate to do so and as always is a various artists affair that draws together a fine gaggle of talents. Sun Archive & Venda kick off with the subtle and dubby bump of 'Louder' then Miller ups the pace with the slippery synths and rhythms of 'Next.' Sy's 'Trip Me' goes bit on crunchy hi hats and tech house sounds from outer space and Moises layers up busy percussive patterns with a lumpy groove to make for a high tempo slice of minimal house.

Review: Energy 52 aka Paul Schmitz-Moormann and Harald Bluechel inaugurated the semail Frankfurt trance label Eye Q with the anthem "Cafe Del Mar" in 1993, named after the long running Ibiza bar and institution. It was the soundtrack to the rave culture movie Human Traffic in 1999 and later went on to be voted #1 in Mixmag's 2001 '500 Best Tracks Ever' list. Here, Renaissance recruit Tale of Us for the second edition of their quarterly-century celebrations. In fact, since the series' inception in 2016, he's provided all but one of the releases. Thanks to this latest 12", that remarkable record stays in tact. The Romanian producer explores his more positive side on opener "Start Get Yourself", a clever combination of sweaty, jacking machine drums and fluid, watery and downright dreamy electronics that runs for eight mesmerizing minutes. Flip the disc, first for the deliciously bass-heavy and bumping "Generation House", where jazzy electric piano motifs rise above a swinging rhythm track, and then the early British tech-house lusciousness of "No Bullshit".

Review: Puglia, Italy based imprint Out-Er has had quite a year, with releases by the likes of Detroit minimal techno innovator Terrence Dixon aka Population One, British tech house hero Aubrey and Dutch techno legend Orlando Voorn. The label (run by Simone Gatto) now presents an impressive compilation celebrating five years in business and it is rather impressive, if we do say so ourselves and signifies some brilliant prospects on the horizon for 2017 and beyond. Highlights here weren't limited to: Dial Records and Berghain regular Efdemin with the oddball avant garde/techno crossover of "Don't Bang Your Fingers" where its hypnotic groove supports a bizarrely used dialogue from a cooking show. Then, quick: hide your AIRA because The Analogue Cops are here! They give us the slow burning and dusty hardware jam "Speculation", which is very good. Also, don't forget to check the aforementioned Voorn's collaboration with Motor City don Juan Atkins on "Reloaded" for your fix of hi-tech soul.

"The Arc" prowls with all the string-soaked majesty of an early Rolando cut while the stringless version hits a little harder. "D Drive" jacks with a slappy bass groove while tipping a slight nod to Yazoo with its vibrant riffy ripples while "Transcending" is all about the big dubby synth washes and off-kick bass palpitations. Let's hope there'll be more to gander from Michigander very soon.

Versions 2 follows up the first volume which was released back in 2012 and on this one we've got some really great grooves. Take for instance the sunny, bouncy and slightly retro flavoured deep house of "Keep It Real Son" which will appeal to fans of Tuff City Kids or Kim Brown. Also there's the cowbell driven nu-disco boogie of "I Need Your Love" which is absolutely infectious and "String For Fools"; definitely the most serious track on here and will create some sure moments of dancefloor drama with those strings reminiscent of hits like "Full Clip" and, well.. He's assembled another crack team of international contributors, too. Autre and Xinner join forces on opener "Nebula", a fine combination of low-slung techno drums, restless electronics and deep space sonics. "Maniac 3000" is a heavy tune, banging away at a fast tempo with an electrifying bassline, an itchy percussive knot, and some killer outsider sonics circling in its higher end - a true dancefloor bomb! On the B-side, we have a tune by the enigmatic Dfnb, the raw and sleazy "We Got Dirt"; another total winner, and a tune which you'll be hearing out on the regular...

Review: Parisian mainstays on Phil Weeks' institution Robsoul Recordings break out on their own, on their Ondule Recordings label. Joss Moog and Around 7 throw down some dirty, breaks driven house thats as dusty as you like it on the A side. Both on the absolutely stompin' title track and the funky "Gogospel" where the duo go all quirky, gospel sampling minimal house in the vein of local legends like Cabanne or Ark. On the flip, we've got "Green Gas" which as hazy and dirty as it sounds; but those fumes create a sense of woozy bliss on this dreamy deep house escapade. Finally, they save the best for last with "Hold On", where those latin drums and funk bass loops face off in infectiously cyclical fashion; almost as good as DJ Sneak's Sneaky Trax series back in the day.

Jamie Lidell - "When I Come Back Round" (live version - Matthew Herbert long Night dub) (7:42)
Matthew Herbert - "Megaphone" (7:20)
Review: The ACJ94 EP comes courtesy of Accidental Jnr, a new sub-label of Matthew Herbert's Accidental. Here he presents a remix of Jamie Lidell's "When I Come Back Round" from 2005's Multiply. Entitled "Live version - Matthew Herbert long Night dub" it's a much more raw and funky take on the track with tough drums and emotive elements where the source material is, like its name suggests, from an appearance on an L.A. radio station from some years ago. On the B side, we have the man himself Herbert with a new track entitled "Megaphone" a classic and proper deep house jam for the late night that's expertly crafted by the artist who has brought us such timeless classics like "See You On Monday" amongst many others.

Review: Hungarian minimal hero Nami is back following up some great releases of late on Eastenderz, Neoconcepto and of course his eponymous imprint which now presents the Hip Pocket EP. Starting off in fine form with the title track, a funked up and bumpy microhouse groove that will appeal to fans of Minibar or Musique Risquee; its subtle breaks offering an even nicer touch overall. On the flip its a much deeper and sultry affair on the smooth "Radio Delta" with its jazzy aesthetics and lo-slung sensibilities.

Sure (7:38)
Angie's Fucked (5:51)
Review: Back in 2001, Joshua 'Iz' Michaels decided to dust off his rarely used C++ alias for a two-track missive on Music For Freaks, the now sought-after I/O EP. Here, it gets a worthy re-press. Both tracks are typical of the period in which they were recorded and released, but have also lasted the test of time rather well. A-side "Sure" is a brilliantly trippy, "left coast" style affair, with Michaels wrapping watery electronics and eccentric samples around a bumping, sub-bass driven groove. Flipside "Angie's F*cked" is similarly hazy and dubbed-out, albeit with bolder electronics, snappier beats and a more hypnotic, 'locked in' feel.

Review: Amsterdam's Nachtbraker heads up Quartet Series which launched in 2016 and after four various artists EPs now presents its first solo artist 12" by local newcomer Scott Franka with The Gym EP. Starting out with the title track, which is a dubby and emotive exercise in deepness that has a classic, Larry heard style nostalgia about it, he also gives us "Toenail" which by comparison is much more rough and dusty but again utilising some really soulful pads and bumpy bass over its absolutely wicked drum patterns. On the flip things take a turn for the slightly more experimental on "Sorry" taking on the kind of UK sounds of Actress or the like, while "Street" goes for some electro style ghetto techniques.

Piranha (6:06)
Review: British techno legend Dave Angel has returned. The Rotation Records head honcho has teamed up with forward thinking Los Angeles label Halocyan Records for a brilliant EP aptly titled Incoming. On opening track "Clone" you'll be mesmerised by this veteran producer's knack for some of the best hi-tech soul this side of Detroit; this track is awash in hypnotizing pads, tight rhythm patterns and strong energy throughout. On the flip, "Defense" is aimed squarely at the dancefloor on this adrenalised and funky escapade full of cyclical chords, driving bass and tough enough drums; after all, this is the man known for his legendary Twisted Funk night back in the day with Darren Emerson. Finally, things get a bit more uplifting and tech house with this feelgood vibes of "Piranha" taking you back to the late nineties where fellow producers Stacey Pullen, Sound Patrol and Terry Francis likewise pushed new frontiers.

Review: When not manning their own imprint BCR, French duo Arcarsenal (Alan Mathias and Etienne Dauta) are serving up bombs on Finest Hour, Rue De Plaisance and Finale Sessions. They appear here for Chez Damier's Inner Balance with the Alter Realities EP which serves up four sublime cuts of dark, dub inflected tech house that will appeal to fans other proponents such as Samuel Andre Madsen or iO Mulen. A side track "Hurricane" gets all Arctic on you with its mesmerising 'deepchords' and rolling bass while on the flip "The Vessel" is the most serious offering on here: it's Aril Brikha style synth leads leading to some truly hypnotic bliss.

The Dawn (Dixon remix) (6:36)
Review: Kill The DJ regular Chloe Thevenin has made some superb records over the years, but few have been quite as magical as "The Dawn". Clocking in at just-under 11 minutes, the track builds slowly, with melancholic synthesizer loops, poignant spoken word samples and chiming melody lines wrapping themselves around shuffling drum machine beats and a thrillingly heavy bassline. Wisely, Thevenin uses the opportunity to build towards a heartbreaking climax via sweeping strings and brilliantly layered melodies. It's genuinely brilliant, all told. Heavy hitter Dixon opts to flip the script on the B-side, delivering a dark, foreboding and paranoid dancefloor version that makes great use of Thevenin's synth-strings and creepy spoken word samples.

Review: London's Rich NXT is back and the emerging producer is on fire at the moment with releases on FUSE London and now Vicenza, Italy based imprint HUND with the Crystal EP. On the A side "Automotion" has that bleepy and glitchy groove that's similar to Akufen stuff on Perlon way back. On the flip the title track is rolling deep and funky minimal house' a style that no doubt caught the attention of Enzo Siragusa; this one is definitely afterhours ready. The track also comes in a "Faster remix" which despite it's name is actually more of a dubby and reduced version; which works well too!

Review: Frankfurt up and comer Felix Reifenberg is well known by now to be affiliated with the local hardworksoftdrink crew and serves us some sublime minimal electro that's definitely in vogue right now on "Broakiloop" and "Kamelion" respectively. Broken beats, blips & bleeps and retro sci-fi fantasies are the order of the day here and we we're loving it! On the flip, Reifenberg translates said sensibilities into "Kanion" where he produces a deep minimal house groove that will appeal to fans of Spacetravel or Francesco del Garda's recent works.

Iuly.B - "HS23" (7:31)
Alejandro Vivanco - "WeMaDi" (7:27)
Jack Wickham - "Moonaker" (8:52)
Review: Ilario Liburni's Cardinal and Invade imprints are the go-to guys at the moment for the maximal sound; not quite minimal, certainly not tech house but somewhere in between with massively rolling and hypnotic grooves that put them toe to toe with other current purveyors like Memoria or Mulen People. On the Trip 1 compilation EP, some of the usual suspects are back. Label head honcho Liburni teams up with fellow homeboy Massimo Girardi (they're Belgian, by the way) on "Forensic", which starts out the track being dragged through brazen display before that big, bumpy baseline and tough beat set in nicely. Man of the moment Iuly B gets deep on "HS23" but it's still a pumping groove with a swing fuelled shuffle and woozy organ stabs. On the flip, Alejandro Vivanco gives us the funky and semi-glitchy "WeMaDi" which will really rock the after-hours and then Leeds' Jack Wickham with the rather Mulen sounding "Moonaker".

Review: Berlin's Cab Drivers are the real deal. If their extensive collection of classic Roland machines wasn't enough, they even sequence them all on an old Atari ST you don't get more purist than that. Paul and Augustowsky's new track "Correspondence" has all the hallmarks of their signature sound: bumpin', melodic, rolling and emotive. You know; the Cab Drivers sound! On the flip, fellow Berlin minimal techno legend Audio Werner steps up to deliver a more darker and emotive remix that strays on the dubbier side of things and we loved it: Tip!

Review: Austria's Philipp Lichtblau serves up the sophomore effort for his Vienna based Movin' imprint - which is not only a label, but also an event series at Vienna's Pratersauna and Sass Club. He has released numerous EP's on labels such as Traum sublabel MBF Ltd, Kina Music and ETE. Following up a great split EP with German minimal hero Ben Rau, Lichtblau strikes again with "Create" which is perfect modern tech house: rolling and hypnotic just the way we like it, and will appeal to fans of Djebali or iO (Mulen). Second original offering "Overthinking" follows on the flip, but it is all about Italian Alex Ground's tremendous remix - he delivers a boompty, swing-fuelled deep groove - which will be perfect to get hips moving on afterhours dancefloors.
