Fum E (DeWalta remix) (11:59)
Mult Asteptatul (U More remix) (9:37)
Review: High tech minimal house here for those that like their strains a lot deeper. Nu Zau is yes, you guessed it, Romanian and delivers the third release for Italian label Castanea. "Fum E" is a deep and eerie jam with high attention to detail; there's a lot going on this track and it's really hypnotic as a result. "Mult Asteptatu" like the last track goes for over nine minutes but is a more stripped and restrained DJ tool where a steady drum groove does most of the work, and that train horn sound.. wow! On the flip, Berlin's De Walta gives "Fum E" a funky and melodic remix reminiscent of his stuff in recent time on Cynosure. U More's remix of "Mult Asteptatu" uses spacey sirens, a creepy vocal sample on repeat and a broken beat; this one's perfect for a closing set!

Meuse (7:54)
Flirt (7:38)
Reponce Profonde (7:34)
Review: Mulen main man IO has been surprisingly quiet this year following a stellar 2019 in which he released a quintet of must-check EPs. The good news is that the Meuse EP was worth waiting for. The A-side title track is a terrific example of the more robust, peak-time-friendly end of his style, with addictive riffs, spacey electronics and ricocheting percussion hits riding a storming, beefed-up tech-house groove. He begins the B-side with a deeper, loopier and hazier (but not less rhythmically driving) excursion - the disco-tech jack of 'Flirt', before reaching for swinging drums, alien-sounding motifs and warming chords on hypnotic closing cut 'Response Profonde'.

Rehda N Pluhg (5:59)
Review: Pohl returns to Low Money Music Love for a first ever full solo offering after serving up a fantastic selection of tunes on the label in the form of a split EP with Paolo Macri in 2018. His elastic drum funk is in fine fettle from the off here: 'Undefined 034' is all bendy bass and wonky synths and brings real movement to the floor. 'D089' is reverberating tech funk with another excellent bassline and all manner of tripped out keys and '2.30 AM' continues on a similar tip. Last of all, 'Rehda N Pluhg' is a real stomper with a late night charm and curious sense of wispy melody that really gets under your skin.

Chris Stussy - "Pendulum" (7:19)
Rossi - "Apathe" (7:54)
Cuartero - "Heavenly" (7:33)
Okain - "Flyaa" (8:36)
Review: Beats bubblier than Babs Windsor, grooves more relentless than Phil Mitchell on a bender, charm like Ian Beale when he's living his best life; Eastenderz have been a consistent source of serious late night deep house delights for six years now. And rather than looking back over past achievements to celebrate the anniversary, they've reached out to some of their most exciting new members. Djebali's Chris Stussy breaks the ice with a timeless Northern Exposure-flavoured progressive breaks style jam before newcomer Dutchman Rossi weaves up some Om-style west coast dreams on 'Apathe'. Flip for a Luke Solomon MFF-era tech house bubbler from Spain's Cuartero before longtime groovesmith Okain makes his Eastenderz debut with the dubbed out Tejada-level hypnosis on 'Flyaa'. Warmer than Frank Butcher's overcoat.

Synthasy (8:10)
Nightingale (6:40)
Vizzle (7:29)
Review: East End Dubs keep the pressure up with another peak time belter to feed into their rapidly swelling catalogue. "Synthasy" marries snaking, nervy piano lines to a chunky tech house backbone with a fierce forward momentum, while "Nightingale" weaves a little trance bombast into the formula without over-egging those lead synths. It's a fine art to achieve that balance, and they've nailed it. "Vizzle" takes things in a more playful direction with wobbly tones and a cheeky bassline catering for those naughty moments when everyone's getting loose and having a real good time.

Broke Out (6:29)
Review: East End Dubs's Eastenderz label remains at the forefront of its own sound world with this heady and boiled down dub tech EP from Rigzz. The key to 'Together' is the airing of a sleek, infectious groove with deft sci-fi sound designs that occupy the mind. 'Peek 8' layers up fluid drums and kicks into a bubbling mix that never lets up and then 'Interlock' gets more loose, with warm and molten chords and a smart female vocal sample teasing and pleasing. Closer 'Broke Out' has the heaviest kicks of the lot. They swing down low and pull you in further each and every time.

The Secret Of Nim (7:17)
Tahiti Exploration (7:39)
Terza Rima (7:14)
Review: Not just content with hammering out minimal/tech house bangers on his eponymous imprint, East End Dubz upped his game on new sub legal Eastenderz, bringing some killer heat courtesy of Romanians lime Priku and Lizz. Next up is Nami who inaugurated the label back in 2014. "The Secret Of Nim" is a deeply hypnotic groove that you could imagine a crowd full sun-drunk youths on the beach at Sunwaves totally losing their heads to; this one is as bumpin' and funky as we like it! "Tahiti Exploration" is more on the traditional deep house tip but still quite enjoyable; Finally "Terza Rima" gets tough and rolling on you; this is what you wanted all along. This trance inducing groove will really rock the dancefloor.

I'm Gonna Give You Some (David Scuba remix)
Review: The Superfreq label rises Phoenix like from a six year absence with label figurehead Mr. C at the helm. Launched back in 2004 as an extension of the monthly Superfreq club night Mr. C ran out of the iconic and much missed venue The End, the label had a stellar discography over it's three year reign calling on likes of Levon Vincent, Adultnapper & Barbq. Re-emerging some six years later with both founders Mr. C and Luke vB involved along with new label partner David Scuba, Superfreq's plans for 2013 include a new LP from the former Shaman member along with numerous 12" releases - the first of which sees Mr. C in typical dark and driving form on "I'm Gonna Give You Some" which features his own vocals . David Scuba is involved in both accompanying remixes, collaborating with Dance Spirit on a tech infused effort whilst his solo rework weaves its way down the dub techno wormhole.

Review: We've become relentless pushers of (albeit, only the best) minimal and tech house as of late, and long lounging in the upper echelons of said slick stylee comes Ukrainian maestro Kirik with a four-track EP. Only the moodiest and dubbiest audionics prevail here: 'Dark Temptation' embodies all the sonic personality traits to charm our ears, healthily or not; techy machiavellianism, twinkling psychopathy, knocking narcissism. 'Next L' is a low-level trance grudger, while 'Dalaman' subtly places all sorts of spine-tingling foley sounds between the beats.

Review: We've become relentless pushers of (albeit, only the best) minimal and tech house as of late, and who better to celebrate of all that the kickless king of minimal himself, Ricardo Villalobos, remixing a sick classic from Matias Aguayo? The k-holed festival go-to here unveils a wonderful remix of Aguayo's 2013 track 'El Camaron', which also gets a 2022 rerub on the A. Originally forming one part of Aguayo's album 'The Visitor', the original is a tribal, moody unfurler that leans into chanted broken beat. In true Villalobos style, his version is the slowest of burns, straightening out the beat into a 4x4 progression set to subtly inflame dancefloors the world over this summer.

His debut for the Parisian label Griffe records - 'Destination Unknown', which came out last year - now sees a few more copies hit our shelves. We're bowled over by the Todd Terry-like swing on the A, 'Abduction', while the techier, bell-chimingly charming tones of 'Wireless Talk' and 'Xtra D' zap us with surplus energy, leaving us with a boundless motivation to dance by the time the EP's coldwavey sci-fi closer, 'Pattern Recognition', rolls around.

Op 23 (9:27)
Review: Curtea Veche's fifth transmission in the serii speciale series is a real doozy. It comes from the ever more essential Gathaspar on 12" transparent vinyl, with one track on each side. The opener starts as an experimental mix of single piano keys, tumbling drum sounds, spoken words and mysterious street level charm before a rugged rubbery baseline rolls off into the future. On the flip, 'Op 23' again pairs the weird and wonderful with the seductive and salacious. The bass and drums and gooey, the synths trippy, and it adds up to a perfectly heady late night sound.

In Motion (11:23)
Don't Play (feat Ava) (10:07)
Review: Theo Parrish is one of those characters who manages to unite lovers of both house and techno, indeed producing offerings that seem to make the distinction utterly redundant. How does he doe it? Well, if this pair of new tracks are anything to go on, it's the simple trick of making tracks that combine the soufulness and rootsy earthiness of house with a trippy sense of the futuristic and psychedelic that elevates them out of the ordinary.
Take, for instance 'In Motion's simple piano stabs and the subsequent off kilter groove that builds up around them. Or, equally, the cheeky bass keyboard manoeuvres that form the backbone of 'Don't Play' featuring Ava, funky enough to be Stevie Wonder but then matched with caustic, scything hi-hats that have more than a hint of the surreal and robotic about them. Best of all, it doesn't feel like a compromise, it feels like a full on creation that acknowledges both traditions but refuses to follow either slavishly.

Last Track At Sunrise (6:15)
Looking For U (6:29)
Looking For U (Dennis Quin RMX) (5:52)
Review: Nick Curly has revived his Cecile label to great effect this year. There have been a slew of fresh sounds from the likes of the German boss himself as well as Steffen Deux, De La Swing and now this collaborative offering from Miguel Lobo and Cristian Merino. The sound is still rooted in the tech house the label lis known for - and Miguel was saving up last time he rebased here in 2021 - but with plenty of additional soul. 'Last Track At Sunrise' is perfectly titled - it's driving to keep you locked after a night of dancing but has a lush vocal to signify the bright new day ahead. 'Looking For U' is a warped, elastic groove to latch you on in the middle of the night and then it gets a great remix from Dennis Quin who bulks up the drums, adds a little rawness and dances off into the future.

Review: American house don Delano Smith is one of the more low key artists from the mid west, but there is no real reason why he should be. He has a stripped back sound that is based on building the perfect loops and embellishing them with only the most subtle but subversive details. He follows that MO once more here on Mixmode Recordings. 'Twisted Dreams' is as stripped back as they come, but it still hooks you in for the ride. 'Anything' then gets a little more amped up, with bulky kick drums and mournful chords draped in from above. 'Constant' is full flavour, full bodied, rolling deep and dubby house par excellence.

Review: After the success of part one, the second half of this fabed Aspect double pack from 2000 gets a separate reissue by popular demand. M-Core's 'Get Down' starts proceedings, a slow techno burner that starts with spaced out eeriness but builds its momentum rhythm-wise almost literally brick-by-back. 'Evolved' by Soul Capsule Productions has a fresher, cheerier atmosphere to it, before the gloomy clouds gather again for closing track 'The Prayer' by Dark Boys.

Review: Representing the newer generation of the Mannheim sound, esteemed DJ/producer Fabian Winkels makes a worthy addition to legendary local label Cecille with the Sober Up EP. Fabe's particular brand of minimal house is on display once again, yet more optmised for main room dancefloors this time around. We particularly enjoyed the trippy and swing-fueled minimal funk of opening cut 'Solid & Straight', as well as the rolling, vocal-led tech house of 'At The Bar' or 'Frozen Cake' which are sure to rock dancefloors on The White Isle as much as they will in Berlin, while the deep and emotive B-side cut is aimed squarely at the afterhours dancefloor.

It starts in sedate, dubbed out fashion with the quiet artists of 'Hage Messy' but 'Monk & Das' then brings sublime drum sounds, fresh vocal samples and a track that oozes its own unique character. There are twitchy electronics over more dubbed out techno grooves on 'Hap Come Come,' fresh breaks on 'Snot Dive' and heads down minimal brilliance on closer 'Soul Def'. A versatile collection, well worth copping.

And he does it well, whether going deep, dreamy, tribal, vocal or piano. Here he links with another original great in the form of heroic vocalist Robert Owens. and they cook up a two-part track that is steeped in mystic magic and driven by perfect deep house drums. A standoff between contributing artists Mateo Dufour, Polar NL, Silat Beksi and Matpri, each track is a masterclass in the kind of black-cat slinkiness worthy of this brand of Dutch tech house, which requires subtlety to function effectively. Genie has never been one to be tunnel visioned on just one style of techno, and much like 'Midnight Zero', 'Acheron' embraces deep, acid, ambient and hardcore flourishes through the project. Sublee leads the way with the smoky, subliminal sound of 'Shuffle Kings' before DubTape offers up a subtly crooked beat to carry the whispers of pad and errant machine bleeps of 'Ziggurat'. The first two sold out fast so move quickly if you want a pice of this one - another slab of wax that fins the mysterious producer masterfully sampling and editing a range of sound sources. He has done similar on the likes of DJ Pierre's labels Jack Trax Records and Afro Acid but really hits the next level here with hard hitting and turbocharged bangers like 'Heavy Max' next to slower, more spaced out and melancholic jams like 'Butify'. The flipside starts off deep and atmospheric with 'Forget Your Imagination' and that pensive vibe continue through 'Nuhamba' before dramatic closer 'When The Sun Meets The Acid.'

One More Duck Seeker (feat Frd) (6:13)
Review: Following some great releases by Atawel and Cesare Muraca, Berlin's 192 label is taking the music industry by surprise with its third release by Kizoku, who drops the 'Waited Too Long' EP. Raw tech house grooves incorporating classic motifs are prevalent throughout on this one, whether it's the title track with its naughty bassline, the spooked-out rave antics of 'Flemme' or the darkly minimalistic night moves of B-side cut 'One More Duck Seeker' featuring label co-head Frd. A collection of future classics.

Tube Star (6:07)

Lazan Beat (Ultra Bass mix) (7:06)
Wires Around My Neck (5:27)
Review: House-master, Matthias, is the latest producer to debut on the iconic Scottish Minimal/Tech house imprint, Craigie Knowes. Delivering a class EP injected with originality and outright funk, this will be a no-brainer purchase for a long list of DJs and home listeners. On the A side, 'Tube Star' arrives with a throbbing bassline, honey-sweet synths and glinting percussion. For the A2, growling electric guitar melodies meet darkened synthlines and bludgeoning kicks to produce a powerful dancefloor-ready track. On the B-side, we have Ultra Bass on remix duties, offering a bass-stroke-acid-stroke-garage take on Matthais' signature sound - this is undoubtedly a peak time track for those out-of-control moments. Closing things up, 'Wires Around My Neck' slows to a patient pace - a duet of circling synth melodies and chugging drums give this track a delectably wonky, spaced-out vibe. A wonderfully varied release that is surely set to be a favourite for this year's circuit of festivals.

Touched By Silence (8:37)
Review: House music mainstay Jimi Jules finds himself on DJ Tennis's revered Life And Death for a magical four-track exploration of left of centre electronic rhythms. A freaky vocal drone defines the spangled rhythms of 'Free Bird' with its whimsical chords adding extra fun. 'Lil Dirty' (feat Lil dirty) is a little dirty indeed - the old school scratching, filthy bass and naughty synth leads are all sure to bring some grit and grime to the club while 'Speed Meditation' is a perfectly stripped back rhythm made with freaky sound designs. 'Touched By Silence' closes out with another innovative rhythm and plenty more unusual sounds.

Feels So Good (As It Should) (5:10)
Review: A keystone label in the minimal and tech house world, Butter Side Up are yet to disappoint, adding another dazzling release to their collection, welcoming back Liquid Earth for 'Deputy Dog' - his second EP on the label. Exploring a sublime and spaced-out club sound, the LA-based artist is a new school mainstay, having previously appeared on the likes of renowned label Kalahari Oyster Cult and his own label project, Liquid Earth Physical. Tight punchy drums and swirling, interplanetary pads veer into view with the opening track '2 Tha Dance Floor'. Next up, the title track 'Deputy Dog' arrives as a wonky counterpart with bleeping and squeaking modulated beats dancing over a full-bodied bassline. On the flip side, 'Rim City' touches on a West Coast house sound with funk-infused chords and energetic, driving drums. Closing things up, 'Feels So Good (As It Should)' loosens things up, flowing between shimmering cymbals and a delicate, vapour-like synth melody, punctuating the track at points and then swerving out of view at other moments. A wonderfully varied release from a do-no-wrong label and an up-and-coming producer to get excited about.

Track 1 (15:08)
Track 2 (12:43)
Review: It's time for another heavyweight 12" from Baku and we mean that both literally - it does on 180g wax - and metaphorically. Interestingly, this one is also pressed to 'eco vinyl' so it's as good for your conscious as it is for your soul. The two sides of this one are given over wholly to one track each. 'Track 1' is dubbed out and rolling minimal with loopy bass and myriad synth sounds peeling off the groove. The tension rises and falls to keep you locked then flip it over and 'Track 2' is more physical, with pinging drums, weird spoken word samples that are random as hell and another filler bassline.

Review: .Zurich has a small but well formed scene that now bears fruit in the form of this new label, alt?r:alt?r. Zefzeed takes the reins of the first sonic statement with four tracks of sophisticated and deep house and tech. 'A Well Watered Fern' is brain cleansingly smooth with buffed metal synths and liquid grooves. There is a darker minimal march to 'Save The Day' that reminds of Melchior and a sweaty pump to 'Farm That Face' that makes it a standout. 'Fishbed Touring' swings low with tripped-out designs and melted synths.

Inner Glow (Bluespirit dub) (6:15)
Review: We're always glad to hear new material from undisputed dub techno don Steve O'Sullivan. This new one on his own Mosiac label finds him facing off with Paul Simmons on a pair of deliciously deep cuts. 'Inner Glow' is given the whole of the A-side to make its mark and it does - with a slightly more soulful sound than you might expect. Rather than pure heads down underwater deepness, it's got a heart warming vocals hook and brighter chord vamps over the signature drum smoothness. 'Still Burnin''is a quicker cut with more radiant chords and a soulful spirit, then a Bluespirit dub of the a-side zones things out nicely.

Enzo Leep takes the helm on the A-side with 'Interplanetary Voyager' a pulsating and entrancing journey that propels you through the vast expanse of space and time, destined to ignite any big room or festival. Jacobo Saavedra follows with the explosive 'Dawner' a hypnotic blend of deep, bouncing basslines and captivating vocals. On the second side, Tied residents Ciphr and Snad join forces once again on 'Rainbow Chip', an electrifying groove that pushes boundaries and finally Christian Thomas concludes the EP with 'Local Motive' a sublime and velvety heater that delves deep into sonic bliss.

Review: Lukea and Illan Niccian combine their own respective sounds into this fresh EP on Dulceata. It kicks off with a track made by both, 'Pyrus', which is a wigged-out tech house cut with snaking bass and silvery drum sounds while a mysterious didgeridoo-style lead brings an original touch. Each artist then goes solo, with firstly Luka offering the low slung and late night depths of 'Providenza'. Illan Nicciani's 'Spiraea' is then a deep and spiritual closer with Mediterranean melodies washing over you as the liquid grooves and squelchy bass roll below.

Why So Serious (6:49)
Sunny Side Up (5:59)
Undercurrent (5:48)
Review: Since moving from Europe to Canada last year, Jordan Czamanski AKA Jordan GCZ has been relatively quiet, release wise, with just one solo EP and a collaborative album (Recreational Kraut, with long-time friend and studio buddy David Moufang) appearing. This return to Rawax, then, is a welcome development. Title track 'Polyphonic Glide's is particularly potent, with Czamanski combing tight, impactful drums with deeply spacey pads and chords, jazzy bass and his usual stoned, mind-mangling sound design. Elsewhere, 'Why So Serious' is a bouncy, hypnotic, acid-flecked box jam smothered in ghostly pads and echoing synth solos; 'Sunny Side Up' is snappy, out-there and intergalactic in equal measure; and 'Undercurrent' sits somewhere between Detroit tech-jazz, Reagenz style ambient techno and dubby deep house.

Piscot (7:16)
Review: UK label After Hours looks across Europe to the talents of Romanian minimal man Vlad Arapasu. He serves up classic, turn of the millennium final where it is all abstract sounds, farting bass and weird modulations. 'I Figured Out A Way To Be Outside' is a prime example of that with its pinging kicks and soupy pads, whirring spacecraft sounds and bulbous synth droplets. 'Einatmen' is more busy but just as heady with warming sub bass holding together a scattered mix of dry hits and distant chimes, subtle melodies and delicate kicks. 'Piscot' rounds out with another loosely held together fusion of vocals, sine waves and crunchy drum work.

Review: No CCTV captures plenty of dancefloor pleasures with this new EP from Trajano. It's a retro future blend of breaks, tech, minimal and something a little freaky that kicks off with the mysterious leads and hurried drums of 'Aquela La' (feat Villaca). 'Praiana' spins out on some lithe breakbeat programming with muted acid lines dancing in the spaces left behind and jazzy keys up top. 'Canal X' then keeps it more stripped back and deep and 'Flip!' is superbly designed and kinetic. Squelchy synth funk off-sets the stiff and rigid snares that snap over punchy kicks. A real bit of dynamite.

Review: New and exciting Los Angeles label YKW returns with a second release, this time from Montreal's Ohm Hourani who is well known in hardcore circles for his superb jazzy and minimal stylings. He offers one particularly standout track, 'Herbs Miles,' which mixes up a sample of Herbie Hancock discussing the legendary Miles Davis. His own live-recorded and processed trumpet layers in another soulful edge and makes it a brilliantly original jam. G76/Gojnea76 delivers a weird and wonky remix and then 'Down the Syncussion Hole' is another inventive and rather madcap sound from this studio wizard.

Review: Mike & Dot, already well-known for their luscious debut on Substatic (#52), now burrow themselves even deeper into technoid funk and succeed to uncover the tight floor pleasers once more. Each bar of the Lego EP is causing content head banging at the Substatic headquarters, underlining the idea of boosting new and undiscovered talent. They've got loads of that, those two junior techno heads from Jerusalem: In their extensive deep dripping tribalisms and DBX like bleeps & clonks stand next to post minimal 12-tone-madness and rapid glitch anthems, for the invincible optimists of a wild tap-dancing crowd. Almost boldly sophisticated, they distort their references and dash around the beats, however always leaving enough space to read between the lines. An unpretentious firework of good taste in four acts.

This marks the first time that assured and hardcore deep house heads Dungeon Meat and SlapFunk Records have come together and it is the result of Meat man Brawther hosting a comp on his Patreon channel for aspiring producers to try and impress. From the many entries he received, the four best are served up here starting with Ibiza-based A.M. Project whose 'Flippin' Kicks' has heavyweight kicks and plunging bass. UK-based ADMNTi & Jack Ling offer the quick tech funk of 'Meat Slap', Russia's Fanick brings a trippy breakbeat vibe with 'Watch Me' and Canada's Modal Logic offers 'Space and Science Center', a nice loopy and low-slung banger to close.

Review: As far as we can tell, Michael Dop is a new comer to the scene who shows he is well versed in dance effort dynamics with this new EP on Dutch label Heisenberg. His style on 'Makes Us - Us' is slippery and subversive - rhythms slip and slide under vocal apparitions and languid bass that keeps on pulling you in. 'FMME' then brings some prickly acid sounds to puncture a loopy and deep tech groove while the Nu Zau remix spins out more freely and fluidly. Last of all is a melodic delight in the form of the Wyro remix, which has shape shifting synth sequences always on the move.
