Review: House-master, Matthias, is the latest producer to debut on the iconic Scottish Minimal/Tech house imprint, Craigie Knowes. Delivering a class EP injected with originality and outright funk, this will be a no-brainer purchase for a long list of DJs and home listeners. On the A side, 'Tube Star' arrives with a throbbing bassline, honey-sweet synths and glinting percussion. For the A2, growling electric guitar melodies meet darkened synthlines and bludgeoning kicks to produce a powerful dancefloor-ready track. On the B-side, we have Ultra Bass on remix duties, offering a bass-stroke-acid-stroke-garage take on Matthais' signature sound - this is undoubtedly a peak time track for those out-of-control moments. Closing things up, 'Wires Around My Neck' slows to a patient pace - a duet of circling synth melodies and chugging drums give this track a delectably wonky, spaced-out vibe. A wonderfully varied release that is surely set to be a favourite for this year's circuit of festivals.

Review: Leading Romanian minimal proponent Dubtil is packed with some literally and metaphorically heavyweight wax via the Playedby label out of his homeland. 'I' kicks off with lush under-lapping grooves and silky pads that mesh perfectly with the lithe bass. It's loose body music followed by 'II', a darker cut with snaking and paranoid bass and crispy hits pinging off the groove. 'III' brings more layers of symphonic sound over tight, pinging kicks that meander onwards and sink you into a meditative state. 'IV' closes out with a more sparse and eerie vibe, occasional hits and lazy dub vibes that cast your mind free.

Review: If you're someone who craves a little underground mystique and some grit and grain in their deep tech house, you might well want to check the latest transmission from the shadowy oge collective. On the A-side, 'Contemporanea Mente' gets into a tricky, blippy strain of minimal tech house which opens up beautifully once the classic chords come drifting into the mix. 'Mazzone' summons a vintage early 90s flavour, but there's an inherent weirdness to the processing and sampling which makes this a cut above the average garage house revival joint. 'Mouse Liar' opens up the B-side with a boxy strain of electro steeped in starry-eyed synthesis, which Anania promptly twists up into mystical tripper par excellence.

Review: Top Pockets has got more of that irresistible house goodness for us here with Roy Vision at the buttons. There is nothing new or fancy about any of these four cuts but they all do exactly what house music should and that is make you move your feet and feel something inside. 'Rise To Crescendo' is a loose and jumbled percussive groove for slow-motion workouts, then 'Tunde's Track' has a deep, shuffling groove and Afro vocals. 'Working Faster' comes as another earthy and tribal-tinged sound and a dub.

Review: Minimal Man is the legendary studio partnership between Eon (aka Ian Loveday) and Baby Ford. They cooked up some of minimal's most essential tunes some 20-odd years ago and they have become expensive and highly sought after since. This EP is one of them and it features three killer cuts that will move a dancefloor as much today as ever. 'Make A Move' has a pent-up energy and forward drive that sweeps you up and keeps you locked amongst soft hi-hats and vamping chords. Part 2 is a little darker and more mysterious, with the drum loops a little edgier and the mood that bit more mischievous. 'Stay On' closes down with bubbling drum funk and swirling abstract synth world from deep inside some distant nebula in the sky.

Review: Copenhagen-based Icelander Ohm and Berlin-based Philipp Priebe mine the warmest depths of dub techno here across three stumble originals. 'Flickering Lights' is silky and muted, with smooth drums and claps gliding over a cavernous groove that is subtly lit with sustained chords. The Anton Kubikov remix is more lithe and electronic, with reflective synths and nimble leads making for a minimalistic workout. There is then a shadowy but dynamic dub vibe to 'Sacred Night' before 'Roaming' rives this EP home with a mix of deft sound designs and pillow dub drums. It's brilliantly introspective.

Review: Politics Of Dancing once again gets our vote here with some balmy deep house propositions from the eponymous production team working alongside French stylist Djebali. 'Close To Gate' layers balmy pads and smeared chords over punchy and dynamic drums with plenty of cosmic effects up top. There is a little more urgency to 'Soul Brothers' which skates and skips along nicely beneath shimmering vocals sounds and wispy melodies. 'Simple Minds' brings more physical drum work and infectious finger clicks while the Franco Cinelli remix gets things on more of a breezy and rolling tip. A useful, heartwarming EP of modern deep house music.

Review: It's still hard to keep up with all of Burnski's many different labels, but we're not complaining. This one, Constant Black, mixes up things with a tech and minimal twist and next to do so is Daniel Akbar. 'What' soon wins you over with its kinetic and infectious drum programming and smart samples - a phased vocal and a twisted synth lead. 'Retreat' gets more physical - the drums bang with an old-school flavour and hint of tribalism. 'Listen' is a big fat tech roller with low slung bass and 'This One' rounds out with some brilliant drum, hits and brain-frying bass sounds. Pow pow, what a record.

Review: Cesare Vs Disorder aka Cesare Marchese joins the ever-growing Raw family with an EP that shows off his studio mastery across four varied cuts. 'All One' (feat Kevin Knapp) is a fleshy minimal house cut with silky rhythms and lots of machine funk. 'Leo' then flips the script with old school breaks and rave tinged vocals for spine-tingling peak time action. 'You & I' drops into a dark and garage-tinged house groove that shuffles and wiggles under well treated vocals. Review: A keystone label in the minimal and tech house world, Butter Side Up are yet to disappoint, adding another dazzling release to their collection, welcoming back Liquid Earth for 'Deputy Dog' - his second EP on the label. Exploring a sublime and spaced-out club sound, the LA-based artist is a new school mainstay, having previously appeared on the likes of renowned label Kalahari Oyster Cult and his own label project, Liquid Earth Physical. Tight punchy drums and swirling, interplanetary pads veer into view with the opening track '2 Tha Dance Floor'. Next up, the title track 'Deputy Dog' arrives as a wonky counterpart with bleeping and squeaking modulated beats dancing over a full-bodied bassline. On the flip side, 'Rim City' touches on a West Coast house sound with funk-infused chords and energetic, driving drums. Closing things up, 'Feels So Good (As It Should)' loosens things up, flowing between shimmering cymbals and a delicate, vapour-like synth melody, punctuating the track at points and then swerving out of view at other moments. A wonderfully varied release from a do-no-wrong label and an up-and-coming producer to get excited about.

Review: Mysticisms continues its global search for amazing music, hitting gold again with an EP of four previously unreleased house meets IDM with a dreamy edges by Romania's HAN aka Dan Handrabur, culled from early studio recordings between 1991-95. After getting into record store culture he began building a studio and eventually gave up studying in favour of production, relocated to Vancouver, Canada, where his debut release (as X Drone with Adham Shaikh in 1993) began to establish Handrabur's role as an integral part its electronic scene. Appearances with Harthouse, Exist Dance, Eye Q Records and many more followed, plus collaborations with the legendary Phil Western. The four tracks here haven't aged at all, with nimble beats, action-packed arrangements and dreamy atmospheres, 'Give In & Resist' coming on like Rising High-era Mixmaster Morris crossed with the playfulness of Air Liquide, and 'Phantasme' revelling in the same cross-rhythmic fun that informed The Black Dog's classics.

Review: Waage is a firm favourite amongst dub techno fans. The Icelandic producer has long been turning out icy and atmospheric rollers for the heads and here he works alongside a fresh name, Quantal, who is sure to go on to big things. Here they land on Thule Records, a legendary label in its own right with roots going back to 1995. They kick off with the textured dub of 'WQ1' which has glitchy sounds paying over the rolling drums. 'WQ2' is much more smooth and streamlined, with an underwater current that sweeps you off your feet, then 'WQ3' leans into the wind with hypnotic techno drums and vamping chords that melt the mind. Last of all comes 'WQ4', a timeless dub with infinite horizons and the most frictionless drum loops.

Review: Robot Says A is a stunning EP that showcases the dub techno skills of Jukka Hanninen aka TM Shuffle, a Finnish producer who has been making waves in the scene since 2012. The four tracks on this vinyl are all deep and atmospheric, with lush pads, subtle melodies and crisp rhythms. 'Moonset' is a dreamy and hypnotic track with a soothing vocal sample and a warm bassline, followed by the more upbeat Infinity' an energetic track with a catchy synth hook and a driving groove. Over on the flip, 'Kupliva' is a collaboration with another Finnish dub techno artist, Monoder, and it features a swirling and spacey sound with some glitchy effects. Finally, 'Echo' is a minimal and dubby track with a sparse and haunting vibe.

Review: Back Of The Bus is always where the cool kids hung out and on the evidence of this first release that will be true of this label too. It comes with fresh and characterful artwork and minimal house beats packed with charm. Manchester-based producer Pach is the man behind them and he opens up with the bouncy 'Double Trouble' before cutting up a more tough-edged groove with '7am Start.' 'Hassle In The Castle' has a nice percolating bassline that never lets up as narcotic pads drift and smear all around and 'Stairway To Heaven' gets all trippy and late night. Review: Burnski's Constant Black keeps on serving up the heat with a new one from Michael James, who is something of a label regular by now. He kicks off here with 'Remember' featuring a rather iconic vocal sample that cannot fail to get crowds going. It's well worked over an infectious house beat with warming bass. 'Tequila' is another kinetic cut, this time with skewed synth lines and prickly percussion that is raw and tech-edged. Closing out this classy but party-starting EP is 'Remember Me' (version 2) which is a real pumper with twisted acid lines and a killer groove that is catchy as Covid. Review: John Barera has always brought an extra special musicality to his deep house tunes over the years. This time out he joins forces with Brian Abelson for a six-track excursion that works well beyond the confines of a dancefloor. 'The Prelude' is a gorgeous downbeat cut that sounds like it's been played live with lo-fi drums and funk bass riffs. 'The Arc' is surging and soulful deep techno and 'I Am Free' is a driving cut with jumbled percussion and loose claps under a passionate vocal cry. The magic continues through the electro-tinged breaks of 'Another Night', twisted Balearic bass of 'I Was There' and funky drumming of 'The Return'. Brilliantly varied and tasteful.

Review: London-based Italian David Agrella is the man behind the Agrellomatica Records label and now for its fifth release, he has tapped up some undeniably quality names to remix the title tune from his debut Modulo EP back in 2007. Baby Ford kicks off with a deliciously deep and dubbed-out minimal house roller that is detailed with wispy chords and eerie vocalisations. Agrella himself then flips it into a rubbery 909 workout with pops and bubbles next to the leggy drums. GNMR goes for a gritty, heads down and back room techno roller and to close, NDR brings a retro techno sound with molten acid lines. All in all a very useful outing.

Review: Dutch producer and DJ Dennis Quin takes things into his own hands once more here with a new EP of rock-solid house grooves on his self-titled label. These are tracks that are well-informed by what has gone before but is never too slavish to house history. They follow on from big outings on the likes of PIV, Cecille, Defected, Jerome Sydenham's Iconic Ibadan and Kaoz Theory (he has also collaborated with Kaoz boss Kerri Chandler) and feature the swinging bulk of 'Temptation', busy drum breaks of 'Ascending', dark energy of 'Odyssey' and sleazy vibes of 'Love Fiyaa.'

Review: Aterral Limited has taken things slowly to start with but that's fine because the quality of the label's first few releases has remained high. Carlo is behind this one and opens up the EP with 'Hungover', a tune that features Black Loops, who has previously released his own EP on the label. It's lithe, funky deep house with silky synth work and classic drums. 'Lelazo' (feat Emanuele Barilli) carries on down the same path but this time has a darker bassline and more garage tinged skip in the grooves. On the flip side things slow down to a sunset sound on 'Maison' (feat Hauke Freer) and 'Poops' Feat O is a tight, well swung bumper with jazzy keys. Robust and emotive house music from front to back, then.

Review: Welcome label head DJ Life sticks his head above water for this compelling EP of high inapt but stylish tech house tools. There's swing, grime and hints of garage to the opener 'Clam Zone' as well as plenty of deft little designs that bring it fully to life. 'Goblins March' is perfect heads down stomping tackle while 'Hotdog Technology' leaves planet earth and takes us on a trip through spaced out landscapes full of neon colours and melted metal. Last but not least is 'Adventurers Backpack' which is a psychedelic mix of prog, techno, trance and god knows what else that rounds out a superbly colourful and characterful EP.

Review: .Legit Trip is back with his sixth release on Ibiza-based Jack's House Recordings. The Dark Moan EP opens with 'Acid Babe', a bouncy and energetic track that combines a classic 303 bassline with funky drums and robotic jack vocals, while 'Otkuda', is a tunnelling and hypnotic affair properly made for the heads-down moments. The B-side kicks off with the title track, a a moody number that's equal parts slinky and hypnotic, while the infectious minimal funk of 'Gotcha' with its looped vocal refrain is a playful and uplifting way to end the EP.

Review: The seventh release of Sasaki Hiroaki's Yotsume-Music sees Hisashi Ito aka Hulot (Raum...musik, BELOW, FROGMAN/U.S.B.) welcomed to the fray, quite possible, given the EP's title, taking influences from Mr Hulot, the hero of Jacques Tati classic film 1953 'Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot'. Like said hero, there's a kooky, loveable eccentricity to his two productions - he counts Herbert and Moritz von Oswald among his main influences - with Tom Ellis Remix and Sasaki Hiroaki Remix adding a remix, one on either each side.

Review: Rawax first released John Selway's Real EP back in 2020. It has aged well and is still an in-demand 12" following the sell-out of its first run. As such the German label reissues it now just as it was the first time around. The title cut is a tribal and chunky house number with thumping drums offset but tender and barely-there whispers. 'Sliders' is a twitchy technoid stomper with a sleazy vibe and the urgent, hurried grooves continue through 'Wraecca', this time overlaid with swirling solar winds and busy synth modulations. Proper tackle.

Review: Aad de Mooy is better known as Paradise 3001 and has been releasing his fulsome take on techno since the mid 90s. Blue Highway is an EP from back then, 1994 to be exact, and it has aged faultlessly because these tracks will slot into any modern set without a problem, and likely be some of the best in it, in fact. It kicks off with the warped synth and bass entanglements of 'Mind & Motion' before the more gloopy and cosmic bass of 'Ludomil 75'. It's a masterful bit of future music that's followed by the vibrant Jaydee-like 'Blue Highways' and dreamier scapes of 'The Gates Of Dawn' and progressive cosmic funk of 'Mellow Moebe.'

Review: Dub techno don Steve O'Sullivan's Mosaic label is back with a new dubs series and vol 1 kicks things off with a real doozy on lovely red wax. The boss himself offers up a Bluetrain special edition dub of Hidden Sequence's 'Synapse' which is all icy lines and liquid rhythms which make you think of some frozen lake on a misty morning. Sub Basics (Temple of Sound, Lion Charge Records) opens up with a fresh dub laden track with rippling chords, tons of echo and rolling drums on 'Quarters.' Both are timeless dub outings, as you would expect from this label.

Review: Relikt Originals has done a fine job of rolling out plenty of high class house sounds so far. This seventh transmission is another one that finds Hurlee taking us on a trip through the cosmos. 'Break Every Rule' in fact breaks none. It's a traditional house cut with painterly pads smeared over well designed drums but it is well-executed. 'Like Flames' has a heftier punch and hi-tek soul feel with nagging little vocal hooks adding some spice. 'After The Fall' is a more bubbly and laid-back vibe with lush synth layers and 'Closer To You' then completes a warm and heartfelt EP with another future-facing, punchy house cut with subtle vocal soul.

Review: .Zurich has a small but well formed scene that now bears fruit in the form of this new label, alt?r:alt?r. Zefzeed takes the reins of the first sonic statement with four tracks of sophisticated and deep house and tech. 'A Well Watered Fern' is brain cleansingly smooth with buffed metal synths and liquid grooves. There is a darker minimal march to 'Save The Day' that reminds of Melchior and a sweaty pump to 'Farm That Face' that makes it a standout. Review: 1432 R US could as well be called Tech R US in a nod to the great toy shop as it is known as one of the key labels in the sub-genre. Sami is the artist behind this latest slab having previously appeared on the likes of Random Mind State and World Building. He gets mad busy on the opener, with wires synths, bleeping machines, smeared dub chords and jostling drums all layered up to competing rhythmic effect. 'Way Up' has a darker vibe with heavier drums and more edgy synths. 'Twin' is a percussive jumble that is loose but will lock you in with its freaky vocals and 'Deep Blue' is a stripped-back and more serene deep tech trip that encourages daydreaming.

Review: The Meld label continues to establish itself and its sound in the murky minimal and tech house undergrowth with another fresh EP. This platter comes from Londoner Kawaii San who kicked the year with a fine outing on Magic Carpet and now builds on that with four more aqueous and innovative grooves. 'Poetry In Motion' is a thumping cut in the mould of the early Eddie Richards sound. 'More & More' has a dubber low end a little more room for trippy details and zippy synth motifs. 'Aqualand' is a smooth and serene cosmic viber and then proving he has real range, San's final cut 'Tape Display' rides on a nice broken beat.

The sound design is remarkable throughout here right from the first moments of 'Scheunenfund', which is an elegant groove that slowly awakens with bird calls and sleek new age ambience. 'Seidenstreifen' is more drum lead, the broken beats percolating under an eco-system of shuffling synth motifs. 'Erntegold' then heads off to the cosmos on seven techno drums and widescreen astral synths that recall the early Detroit forefathers. Review: The always tasteful Half Baked crew looks to one of their own for this fresh slice of delicious minimal. Sam Bangura was a new young resident for the party back in 2018 and since then has really honed his own sound. It's laid bare here across four fine cuts, with opener 'Range Finder' serving up bristling drum machine grooves and cheeky basslines overlaid with cosmic chords. 'Axel's Limp' is a brilliantly vibrant melodic overload with scintillating drums and plenty of neon colours. 'Bugbear' gets more gritty with a standout bassline powering forwards rugged tech house and 'How Are U Feeling?' then gets spaced out and slick.

Review: Acapulco Heat is a new duo from Acapulco made up of Felipe Valenzuela and new comer Ossios. They share a love of colourful shirts and making "sensual moves in the shade of palm trees" and here offer up a set of cuts designed to encourage dancefloor mindfulness. 'Intellectuelle' is a crispy tech house groove with thudding kicks and enough detail to keep the mind as locked as the heels. 'Gonna Do & Do It More Now' is a highlight on the flip - a trippy synth line buzzes about over flappy drum programming that suspends you in the groove. The one and only Titonton Duvante offers a remix that has a darker heart.

Across the four fresh cuts are explorations of the sound worlds where electro, tech, acid, minimal and breakbeat all collide. 'Dream Shores' is an emotionally intense cut with waves of synth and subtle acid, crisp drums and big bouncing beats. 'Planet JX' is a darker, more downbeat number full of future menace and melancholy and 'Andromeda' is a cosmic workout with fizzing lines and sonar pulses over mid tempo drums. The last cut of the lot might be the best - the dreamy 'Now Is The Time' with its majestic chords and melodies over Detroit house drums.

Review: Absolutely no prizes for guessing what the House House House label is all about. Next up in it is Jay Leklass with four rock solid and old school leaning cuts. 'The Drummer' has that archetypal dark 90s bassline and gritty drums beneath tribal percussion. 'Feel The Bass' cuts loose on more wild synths and vamping chords while the drums bring hints of garage swing. 'Sustain' then layers up leggy kick drums and raw percussive patterns with stiff chords making for a mechanical groove. Last of all 'The Vibe' has a diva vocal swirling about the mix next to Detroit styes sustained chords. A more than useful EP.

Review: No CCTV captures plenty of dancefloor pleasures with this new EP from Trajano. It's a retro future blend of breaks, tech, minimal and something a little freaky that kicks off with the mysterious leads and hurried drums of 'Aquela La' (feat Villaca). 'Praiana' spins out on some lithe breakbeat programming with muted acid lines dancing in the spaces left behind and jazzy keys up top. 'Canal X' then keeps it more stripped back and deep and 'Flip!' is superbly designed and kinetic. Squelchy synth funk off-sets the stiff and rigid snares that snap over punchy kicks. A real bit of dynamite.

Review: It has been well over a year since we last heard from Mayurashka which is a shame because that last outing on Ladybug out of Japan was a fine deep house excursion full of fresh ideas. Animals Dancing is the label where we are now finally treated to more of that with the Guidance to The Sennou label. The title cut is full of gloopy synth lines and paddy drums ambient details and a warm neon glow. 'Percaholic' is darker and more physical, with train track grooves and warped bass melting the mind before 'Sashima' gets back to more clean synth loops and airy cosmic vibes. 'Upperhorse' shits down with Far Eastern melodies and bird calls over a downtempo drum line.

Review: As far as we can tell, Michael Dop is a new comer to the scene who shows he is well versed in dance effort dynamics with this new EP on Dutch label Heisenberg. His style on 'Makes Us - Us' is slippery and subversive - rhythms slip and slide under vocal apparitions and languid bass that keeps on pulling you in. 'FMME' then brings some prickly acid sounds to puncture a loopy and deep tech groove while the Nu Zau remix spins out more freely and fluidly. Last of all is a melodic delight in the form of the Wyro remix, which has shape shifting synth sequences always on the move.

Review: Ray Mono started out as a resident in Leeds at the cult mono_cult party and has since gone on to emerge as a top talent in the studio. He has a fresh blend of minimal, house and tech that has taken him to labels like Moxy Music but now it is that OG home of mono_cult that welcomes him for a first release on the new label. True to form this is silky and irresistible tech with liquid grooves and smart samples, seductive synth lines and plenty of emotion as well as dancefloor clout.
