Review: Detroit house hero Kyle Hall returns with his biggest project in some time in the form of Transmissions, a new double album on his own well-regarded Forget The Clock. All six tracks have enigmatic, functional titles and the music is as idiosyncratic as ever. Each one veers more towards techno than is Hall's usual style, with pulsating synth lines and tight, dusty drum tracks making for stripped-to-the-bones grooves. Later on, things grow ever more abstract with twisted acid lines screwing their way through the increasingly ragged and roughshod drums. These are perfectly imperfect jams from a master of the form.

Review: Norm Talley returns to his Upstairs Asylum label alongside fellow US house pioneer Delano Smith for Straight Up No Chaser, an eight-track opus featuring four solo cuts each. Talley's gritty, dubbed-out, low-rolling house style is present and correct throughout with the loopy chords of 'Blak Bottom' getting things going, 'The Flip' getting more cavernous and aqueous and 'ISO Vision' leaning into dub techno. Night Moves was born in 2012, after they visited Jenifa Mayanja in Connecticut in summer 2011 and promised her a party to play in London. Review: SIT, short for Sideways Invisibility Theory, is the collaborative project of Vlad Caia and Cristi Cons. As two scene leaders of the Romanian minimal phenomenon, both artists have proven over many years to have a unique vision for creativity and fresh approaches in what can be a homogenised scene. Of their many achievements, on their Amphia label as much as elsewhere, this album on Sushitech stands as one of their finest moments. As with all the best Romanian minimal, it's also still hotly in demand, making it a welcome addition to Sushitech's 15th anniversary pressing marathon. From dub tech laced rollers to gossamer-light trippers, this is the classiest end of the minimal tech house game from two artists with the vision to push things a little bit further.

Review: California's Joe Babylon has been steering his own Roundabout Sounds through some lovely deep house waters over the last few years. Now the producer makes a big statement with his own debut album. He is something of a veteran having co-founded Plug Research back in 1994 and hosted underground events in Los Angeles during the mid '90s. Following on from outings alongside the likes of Rick Wilhite and Rondenion he now brings his own dusty, carefully disheveled house sounds to the fore. They have been crafted using an MPC which gives them their rough-edged appeal and they go from heads down back room joints to dubbed-out minimalism via dream late-night reveries. Review: The first compilation on Koze's Pampa label is a lovingly curated affair. It starts with the left field house of Herbert's take on Lianne La Havas and Ada's r&b-infused "You & Me", as well as DJ Koze's own hymnal take on Roman Flugel's "9 Years". Other Pampa regulars like Axel Boman are well represented and he provides the ultra-mellow "In The Dust of This Planet". Equally though, Koze also provides a platform for newcomers to the fold. The monumental results join the dots between Detroit and Berlin across a collection of timeless cuts that meld bassline funk, hypnotic minimalism and soulful machine sounds into propulsive, emotive dance floor joy. Review: With a sound perfectly crafted for the emotive pop tones of Kompakt, Kolsch delivers the 1977 long player in a cascade of effervescent melody rendered through bold production. The DJ Kicks series has managed to outlast the vast majority of other DJ mixes we can think of - the good, the bad, the populist, and the plain cash cow. Even the mighty fabric compilations have rebranded and rethought, bringing the original legacy, FABRICLIVE included, to a respectful end at 200 outings. Strange, then, to think, that !K7's mighty offering to the world of "What should we listen to at the afters?" has arguably managed to become more relevant as the years have flown by.
There was a time when the series existed at the lighter end of club fare, with some examples barely even matching that description. These days, though, there's often a dance floor heaviness central to the selections, with Jessy Lanza's broken, bass-driven set a case in point. Pointless attempts to describe the music, and lazy track list namedropping aside, this is energy-packed, heads down, futurist stuff packed with infectious percussion.

Review: Cult minimalist Fumiya Tanaka last released an album on Perlon in 2019. He now returns with a new collection of precision tool tracks hat have been made by sampling his own sounds from his own DAT tape archive from the 90s. Reconstructing those sounds today in news ways makes for a faultless blend of the old and the new. There are silky, dubby tech house tunes, rich melodic minimal work outs and deep house grooves along the way. This release is the first part of 'One More Thing' with the second part dude later in 2022 as a separate double pack.

Review: Berlin-based DJ, producer and live-act Oliver Koletzki steps up to his own label Still Vor Talent with a tenth studio album. Its title Trip to Sanity is a reference to the classic German children's story 'Tabaluga' about a little dragon and is said to reflect the artist's own journey over the last 18 years in the scene. It's one riddled with a child-like curiosity for new sounds and it comes with plenty of collaborations as has always been the way with Oliver. There are jazzy downbeat cuts, party-starting house anthems and plenty of deeper moments that showcase fine craft and real musical artistry.

Review: Since breaking through a decade ago, Pierre Daniel AKA Pit Spector has spent much of his time collaborating with others, as a quick glance at his bulging discography will confirm. Because of this, it seems rather fitting that the Parisian producer's second full-length (his first dropped a decade ago) is full to bursting with tracks that were either co-produced with others, or feature guest vocalists. It's a move that guarantees plenty of musical diversity, with Daniel's glitchy, tech-house grooves variously being fused with elements of swing-time jazz (San Proper and Dandy Jack hook-up 'Sympatico'), deep acid ('Layback', with Tin Man), hip-house (Dave-Aju-sporting number 'Love Love'), bass-heavy tech-funk ('Prospectin', featuring The Mole) and hazy, jazz-flecked deep house (Goodwill, where Uncanny Valley's Cuthead lends a hand).

as according to him "this is the most mature music Sascha ever did". Like its forerunner 'Bravo', you can expect nothing
like 08/15 speed- techno with 140 bpm - but a fresh and direct, catchy sound. Sascha's demand for techno, amongst others,
is the directness that is created by the structure of his tracks. On the other hand, you can associate something with every
single song on the album. Mr. Funke definitely found his style and knows how to prevent boredom. Every track is full of surprises.
'Mango' is the perfect opener for this album, as it begins to slowly introduce the emotions of the further tracks.

Review: Minimal and tech-house DJs went wild for the first, double album-length missive from Germany's OFFM label, so we expect this follow-up to sell quickly, too. As with its predecessor, there's much to get excited about on OFFM number two, from the breezy synth stabs, undulating blissful melodies and bubbly rhythm of DJ Meme Generator's "Lowlife" and the throbbing tech-funk of Non Paying Buyer's "Pressato", to the deliciously spacey wonder that is Tomi's "Moti", where dreamy chords and intergalactic electronics ebb and flow above a rolling Paris-style tech-house groove. In other words, it's another top-notch selection of well-produced club cuts.

Review: After previous travels through space in the minimal constellation on records for Binh's Time Passages and Vera and Alexandra's Melliflow label, Berlin-dwelling Italian producer lands himself an impressive debut on the mighty Perlon. Fresh off a new Fumiya Tanaka LP and that superb Margaret Dygas 12", Perlon are operating on all cylinders at the moment and this debut Spacetravel LP is a fine addition to the label canon. Some eight tracks deep, the cannily-titled Dancing Therapy already sounds like a future Perlon classic, breezing from hypnotic reduced house ("Kill Divas") to haywire techno deviations via stripped down minimal DJ tools. Dancing therapy indeed!

Review: Slovenian veteran Valentino Kanzyani first made his name producing balls-out techno toughness with old pal Umek, but in recent years has softened his sound somewhat. This debut full-length, released 13 years after his first single dropped, gives a snapshot of where he's at right now. Although rhythmically dense, dancefloor focused and blessed with moments of near percussive overload, Love & Gratitude is nevertheless blessed with a decidedly soft centre. This is thanks in no small part to the Slovenian's deft use of hazy soundscapes and low-key melodies, which add texture to his undeniably enjoyable grooves. This double vinyl edition of the album lifts out the four most DJ friendly cuts from the 13 track CD version and lays them down one a side.

Review: "Numerous elements from the Soviet era expressed through meticulously selected pieces of music." That is the sentence that describes the Berg Audio imprint, and it's pretty much exactly what is communicated through the medium of sound. House and techno are the two main ingredients here, but there is so much depth and diversity to everything that this label touches; this time we're treated with a collaborative affair, a VA LP by the apt name of Directions. Inside, you'll find your usual shades of house form an unusual bunch of artists, making this a novelty and something to boast about in the ol' DJ booth. Even US tech legends Delano Smith and Steve O'Sullivan make an appearance, acting as a guiding light for the rest of the newbies trying to make their name in the more minimalistic end of the dance spectrum.

Review: Back in 2008, noted experimentalist Alva Noto began a sporadic series of albums that were far more focused on dancefloor-inspired rhythms than his usual eccentric and inspiring fare. Unieqav is the third and, we're told, final part of the series. The album is apparently meant to be a sonic representation of an underwater dive, a conceptual theme which manifests itself through the storied producer's use of deep and atmospheric chords, fluid and occasionally glistening electronics, and rhythms that evoke images of ever-deeper dives into the dark, cold depths. Rhytmically, there are nods to electro, IDM, dub techno and Autechre, though the mood remains laidback and intoxicated throughout.

Review: After Hamid kicked off the H+ label last year he returns with an intriguing double pack that draws on a wide variety of collaborators to turn out some truly innovative leftfield house music sounds. There's an overarching theme of micro house hovering around Methods For The Madness Vol 1, but it's far from run of the mill stuff. The opening cut featuring Josh Tweek is a sparkling, swinging affair that piles on the funk and the delirious effects, while Jesse Morrison's own turn on the closing track winds up in a haunting, abstract slice of refined reduction.
