Review: Taken from Shogun's recent 10 years collection, here we find two of the label's stone cold classics twisted by two of the best remixers possible... Calibre does the honours on Perez's soulful stepper "Forsaken". Adding a seemingly endless roll to the drums and letting Peven Everett's vocal take centre stage, it's - typically - yet another essential Calibre moment. Flip for Calyx & Teebee's update on Spor's still futuristic slammer "Aztec". A gamechanger when it was released in 2009, C&T have paid total respect and added just the right touches to ensure its relevance in the game six years later.

Review: Two cuts taken from Shogun Audio's 10 Years collection, delivered - naturally - on 10". First up is Spectrasoul showing off their darker side with the gritty, scuffy techy roller "Ben". No messing around, just pure sandpaper soul. Next up is Rockwell's "Play Some Normal Music". Armed with a fantastically sweary sample (which, we hope, is a real recording taken in complete context) it's a rapid, acid-riddled neck-snap jam done in the way only Rockwell knows how. Hooray for normal music!

Review: Alix Perez here with a release you'd expect to surface on Eglo under his Arp 101 alias as opposed to Shogun Audio. Regardless, Annie's Song is a bold statement of Perez's undoubted production talents, demonstrating he's fully capable of producing tracks that in a perfect world would gain mainstream success. Teaming up with vocalist Sam Willis, "Annie's Song" is a vivid, 21st century slant on UK RnB replete with slow burning synths, half step drum programming and plucked strings. On the flip Shadow Child rewires the track for the club, fixing on an authentic UKG flex that sounds like it's been dug up from a forgotten DJ EZ mixtape.

Review: More commonly seen behind the decks in a club as opposed to twiddling knobs in the studio, "Someone" from Shogun Audio head honcho Friction has turned many a head (including, bizarrely, Fearne Cotton's). This remix EP sees contributions from The Prototypes and Rockwell, with the former rising South Coast duo serving up a half step infused effort that comes across as a rougher variant on DJ Fresh's chart chopping endeavours. In contrast Rockwell lays the focus on the emotive potential of those vocals, pitched down, scratched up and placed amidst a restrained arrangement dipped in fuzzy atmospherics and diced up syncopation.

Review: Special Spearhead off-shoot SIDE revisits S.P.Y's 2010 classic with two stunning modernisation. Keeno & Whiney emphasis the cinematic drama and string-surged soul of the original, allowing the vocal to remain full focus. Hybrid Minds, meanwhile, add a great old school subby texture to the blend. Chopping up the vocal neatly and laying it softly over an energetic skippy breakbeat, it's Hybrid Minds at their heaviest and most driving. Make sure this record is by your side at all times.

Review: With a title like "The Way We Were", it's perhaps unsurprising that this latest missive from former Creme Organization artist Myriadd is a tribute to the glory days of '80s acid house. As you'd expect, it's authentically made, offering a rock-hard fusion of tough analogue drums, droning acid bass and 303-bating riffs. Although alien and icy, there's still a warmth to proceedings thanks to sympathetic mastering and Myriadd's use of vintage analogue gear. Even better, though, is John Heckle's remix, which somehow puts a rocket up the original and turns it into a sweaty, arms-raised belter. It may be called "The Way We Were", but it still sounds fresh.

Review: Detroit's dub techno and ambient don Rod Modell, best known as Deepchord, is not only re-issuing one of his best albums this month but also serving up this new work with Viennese sculptor Marit Wolters. It sees Wolters produce sculptures that make a sound of their own, or "speak," as she puts it, while of course it is actually Modell who has shaped those sounds. They are now presented here on a limited edition CD that comes with a 24 page booklet featuring pictures of Wolters' work, plus a poster, plus a card.
