000 Baby (6:41)
000 Baby (OM Unit remix) (6:17)
Review: After many years turning out 12"s, Klasse Wrecks has decided to serve up a first-ever 10" and they give the honour to Mr. Ho. His '000 Baby' is a delightfully widescreen sound - a post-rave mix of comedown electronics, dusty breakbeats and soothing ambient pads with some smart vocal samples drifting like wispy clouds. On the flipside, we're treated to and OM Unit remix that beefs things up and speeds up the drums. The percussion too is more defined and the energy levels ramped up with deft 808 bass and searching acidic leads. A nice yin to the A-side's yang.

Review: Jurgen Paape has a brilliantly characterful sound and wrote one of our favourite silly records in 'Ofterschwang' some 13 years ago (go check it out, it's brilliant.) We're glad to hear some new music from the long time Kompakt legend and co-founder and once again it's not what you would expect. 'Allein' is a downbeat piece with oriental melodies and gently plucked strings over warm bass. It's not for the club, that is for sure, but the flip side version 'Allein In Italien' sure is. This one is a chugging and brit Italo disco number with retro 80s synth sounds and plenty of joyous grooves.

Review: So, who is this mysterious Afefe Iku? After absolutely destroying the dancefloors all year long with his infamous bootleg of Radiohead's "Everything In Its Right Place", which he smartly put out in extremely limited amounts of vinyl around the same time his mentor, Osunlade, featured his cover of that very same song on BBE's "Exit Music: Songs With Radio Heads". In all honesty Afefe remains a mystery even to us. So, let us start by saying who Afefe isn't. Unfortunately, for those who thought he was Osunlade, you are mistaken, but don't feel ashamed, because Afefe creates at Osunlade´s studio in Santorini, which makes sense to pinpoint him as Osunlade. Afefe is a very quiet man. Like our lost brother, J Dilla, Afefe wants his music to do the talking. And this is exactly what we're going to do. "Body Drummin" is exactly what it is. A percussion heavy track strictly for the dancefloor, its organic, yet techy-tinged feel brings such an urgency to move your hips that we would only recommend this for playing after midnight. Of course, if you insist, be our guests.

Review: Two of TLB's classic cuts get updated here, with 'Our Rhythm' reconstructed by Matthias Tanzmann {aka Gamat 3000} and 'Terry's House' re-rubbed by Terry himself! Tanzmann completely deconstructs 'Our Rhythm' and turns it into a crunchy reduced house weapon with relentless bassline pressure and a techy heads-down appeal. TLB's remix adds dirtier edges and intricate percussion to the original, resulting in a wicked tech-house offering.

Review: Adorning ten inches of clear red vinyl, Skylax present the latest in their series of Terre Thaemlitz curated House Explosion releases. Volume 3 sees the house music polemicist present live versions of tracks that were part of Electronics, his 2008 collaboration with conceptual German noise orchestra Zeitkratzer. Recorded in Berlin, Sprinkles drops live acoustic versions of "Down Home Kami - Sakunobe" and "Hobo Train" which stretch the concepts of what passes for deep house brilliantly. This is resolutely not music you'd bang in a warehouse at 2am and is a marked contrast to the deranged Moodymannisns of the recent House Explosion Vol 2 but Sprinkles fans will love this.

The latest is their tremendous Firecracker 4 EP, originally released in 2009 and perhaps one of the Edinburgh label's definitive records - just look at all those DJs that have charted it above! Present is the absolutely epic, Dennis Parker-sampling "Barely Eagle" by Linkwood & House Of Traps on the A side plus Linkwood appearing again on the B side with his crafty edit of Tabou Combo Superstars 1979 classic "Ooh La La". The Way I Feel
3 AM
Review: When you get Gadi Wolf, Deniz Kurtel and Desolat chap Guti on the same record the results are going to be rich in sound and highly desirable amongst the deep house fraternity. Purportedly recorded as the virgin hours of 2011 settled down in the luxurious climes of the Marcy Hotel, there's a languid sensation to the latest Double Standard ten inch that backs up the myth. A Sider "The Way I Feel" is a fuzzed out odyssey of warm bass and gentle tones of piano and chords intertwined across a bed of delicate drums, with more than a hint of intimacy and lustful thoughts added by Kurtel's distant cooing. Complementing this, "3am" sees the trio indulge in a muddy trudge through rough hewn beatdown, gradually unfurling into a so slow but so good vocal led, loose limbed techno throb, perfectly suited for the time hinted at in the title.

A hardware only affair, "Neon Light Time" and "Pola" show off Brunn's unbeatable Clavia keys and the delightful analogue 707 touch as he manipulates his hardware through tough, gritty beats and into a deep, balmy house groove. A master of his trade, Brunn doesn't attempt anything out of the ordinary on Dust Part 2, but rather manipulates the beats with an intricate poise. Soaring cosmic bleeps, finely tuned hats and rolling basslines span both sides of this limited edition vinyl, which arrives accompanied by stunning artwork from Franski.

A Second Earth
Review: ** REPRESS ** The ever excellent D'Marc Cantu serves up this two track re-entry on MOS DEEP which serves as an enticing prelude to the producer's eagerly awaited debut album (of sorts) which is due later this year. Across both sides of the hand stamped ten inch Cantu demonstrates the ease with which he can work vintage, driving Chicago house rhythms and more emotive, utopian visions of machine made sounds. Lead track "How Are We Doing?" is the former, with wide reaching analogue thrusts gradually being joined by soaring strings over a driving jack groove. Our favourite however is the B Side "A Second Earth", a blissful saunter through laidback melodic touches and skittering rhythms that could go for infinity and not lose its charm.

Hnny - "Want To Know What Love Is"
Kornel Kovacs - "Down Since '92"
Review: Further cementing their reputation as the merry pranksters of house music, Studio Barnhus drop their sixth release and you'll either love it or hate it! We love it. The mysterious HNNY delivers an edit of Mariah Carey's cover of Foreigner's power rock ballad "I Want to Know What Love Is" that expertly fools around with her money notes. The addition of creeping neon synths gives the track a brooding R&B flex and the sudden drop into silence that marks the end of the track is hilarious - it's worth dropping this just to see people's reactions. Barnhus regular Kornel Kovacs adds further heat on the flip with a simmering, low riding early 90s vocal house bumper in the shape of "Down Since '92" which will appease the serious house heads.

Love's Got Me High (Jimpster remix)
Review: The prevailing wisdom in music is 'if it ain't broke don't fix it', and we had some trepidation when we learned that there were reworks planned of Terrence Parker's "Love's Got Me High". Despite these reservations, it's clear that Marc Romboy and Jimpster have delivered versions that are respectful of the original and certainly meet its high standards. Romboy's take centres on loose, organic drums and soulful keys, filtered subtly. These elements provide the basis for a sensuous male vocal to intone the track's title. Jimpster's take is trackier and more suited to DJ usage, its hissing, rasping percussion combined expertly with an insistent rhythm, but here too Rhodesy keys and crowd screams and yells ensure it has a high soul quota. Check it!

Anyone who checked out Transmissions will no doubt have wished Talley treated your ears to more of "Man On The Moon" than the three minutes the EP opener afforded. Thankfully a gracefully extended variant of that track which is three times longer (and thus three times better!) lines up on the B Side. Ahead of that Talley indulges in some expertly crafted explorations through rippling, utopian techno on "Earth 2 Moon", which locks into a vicious groove once those rattling hi-hats drop!

Review: Fine Art is one of our favourite little labels here at Juno, with each release from the London via New York imprint a joy to behold both sonically and visually. The latest, from Auckland-based Hit It & Quit It radio host Frank Booker, contains two sublime excursions into low slung jazz-flecked house spread across two sides of 10" in vinyl. Title track "Hope" teases an infectious looped guitar lick with pan-pot percussion and occasional flourishes of piano, while "No Delay" delves deeper still, with oven-warm chords undulating hazily beneath the ebb and flow of live sounding drums and the most subtle of bass lines.

Review: Returning to WNCL after his exuberant re-emergence last year, Knowing Looks doesn't hold back in testing the limits of the dancefloor. "Listen To My 45" is the kind of track specifically crafted to sit uneasily in your ears on first listen but in time the wildly disparate elements amass to a glorious cacophony of damaged, unconventional groove. "Ghost Baby" darts into action on an uptempo micro-house groove before adopting a deranged synth. By the time thick layers of percussion and amen breaks whip around that lead synth there's no doubt that you're listening to one of the most starkly original producers in operation at present.

Review: 2011 was a pretty special year for Gerd Janson's imperious Running Back imprint and they open proceedings on the next annual chapter with two cuts from their digital archives on this killer Digital Dubplates 10". The A Side houses an absolutely sublime version of Todd Terje's "Snooze 4 Luv" from the magnificent Ragysh EP, further exposing the sumptuous horizontal qualities with aplomb. Providing some nice contrast is an equally refined remix of Son of Sam's "Nature Makes A Mistake" from Jack Plug. The reissue of this 1984 industrially charged oddity was our favourite Running Back release of last year, and the chance to grasp a physical copy of Plug's effort (which is superior to the more highly lauded Ame remix) should not be passed up. Running Back also win the prize for first great runout groove inscriptions of 2012.

Review: After stellar contributions to the series from Bakey USTL and Vakula, Unthank swings back into action with a release from a producer much closer to their Edinburgh home, Lord Of The Isles. This Scottish producer has already graced some fine imprints such as Tusk Wax, Ene and American Standard with his music, while perhaps reserving the best so far to the excellent Hot Blobs EP released on his own Little Strong label. His contribution to the still fledgling Unthank canon improves on that release however, arriving in typically attractive cover art and described as "a journey of whiskey, analogue electronics, Scottish landscapes, nostalgia and underground parties". Musically the five tracks peak and dip between the differing emotions inherent in house music and sound as good as anything Firecracker have released to date.

Ma Spaventi - "Wrecking"
Aroy Dee - "Mr Floyd"
Review: There's something strangely appealing about M>O>S Deep releasing music on a 10" record; the compact size and the neat packaging are complemented by the fact that each piece of music is so stripped down, raw and full of sub-bass that they can barely press it onto such a small and lovable piece of wax. And in keeping with releases from 2AM/FM and D'Marc Cantu, the tenth release for M>O>S Deep - a split EP with Ma Spaventi and label boss Aroy Dee - features two tracks packed with so much raw power that the grooves struggle to tie them down. The record opens with Spaventi's "Wrecking", a stripped down track consisting almost solely of growling acid lines. The whole piece of music seemingly hangs on a menacing and aggressive 303 workout set at a snail's pace and interspersed with crisp hi-hats and a kick drum soaked in reverb. Aroy Dee provides balance with the flipside and his peculiarly titled "Mr Floyd". In typical Dee style the track features an unending parade of blissed out pads, gentle textures and layer upon layer of deep house. It gently nudges you along, revealing more depth with each passing minute, allowing the full-bodied percussion to gently build the tension before it melts to nothing amongst his perpetually translucent synth work.

Review: Dubbyman's Deep Explorer imprint comes correct with a limited edition white label 10" from Kai Alce. With roots that stretch across America, from Atlanta to New York and Detroit, Alce is tied closest, musically, to the Motor City (he was hired to do lights at the city's legendary Music Institute at the age of 16). The Willow EP positively drips with Detroit machine soul; the title track features floating synths and a subtle bassline working beneath Azulu Phantom's vocals. This leads into the excellent "Track 3", which features some raw, brittle drums, soulful moans and an unforgettably deep bass line. Flip over for the acid-tinged Deep Explorer remix of the title track, which takes the original and spans it out over an entire side of wax with subtly hypnotic results.

Review: With his long player freshly dropped for Tsuba, Canadian producer Tazz gets under the knife with a couple of reworkings aimed squarely at the deeper end of the house dancefloor. 6th Borough Project get to grips with "Worked It", going for a slightly more pumped and modern sounding cut than a lot of their rootsy disco productions, using subtle flicks of melody to create a moody piece. Matthew Styles meanwhile goes further down into the murk with a thoroughly dubby version of "Giovanni's Keys", going heavy on the reverb and submerged keys but keeping things functional for the floor.

Review: New Ethereal vibes straight out of Russia! Unknown artist SH2000 marks the 22nd release for the label and it comes as a fresh addition to their already impressive catalogue. "Good News" is a wonky, acid-laden house excursion with sharp breakbeats and a studious arrangement of polyphony and effects. Over on the flip, Yuri Shulgin takes care of the remix and emphasises the disconnection between the breakbeats to full effect. "Get Down 1" especially bubbles and soothes with a dense bed of synths that call to mind the finest aqueous ambient tracks. "Get Down 2" is far more primal with its sparse drums n' bass refrain, while "Get Down 3" is equally direct albeit with a more angular funk to the beats.

If you've dipped into the Mikesh & Filburt contributions to Mirau, Permanent Vacation or Liebe Detail Spezial you'll be well aware of what to expect from "No Other"; those coming to this release with inquisitive ears will be rewarded by one of the more shamelessly uplifting tracks to emerge over the summer months. Review: Killer debut turn on Mr Zap's Ethereal Sounds label from Miruga, last seen appearing on the appropriately named Drift Deeper label at the turn of 2012. Ethereal Sound completists will gladly add the Human Tube EP to their collection, with the two tracks from the Japanese producer a perfect fit for the label's aesthetic. Commencing with freeform percussive touches cascading around the channels, the title track eventually settles into a thick set groove, with a glacial sheen somehow keeping a lid on the many layers of texture and found sound that Miruga packs inbetween. It has that dual sensation of busy and calm that punctuates so much Ethereal Sound output and is complemented by the facedown business of "This Side Of Sunshine", a bonafide entry into deep house authenticity. A central playful axis between stop start piano samples caked in vinyl crackle and equally dusty drums is complemented by some well judged chord shimmers that remain just within ear shot - you can picture Peterson investing in fresh pants at the mere prospect of playing this one.

Review: Very limited double 10" from Berlin based producer Sven Weisemann, who pops up with his first original release of 2010. The self taught pianist, acoustic guitarist and percussionist is just as happy dabbling in jazz and soundtracks as he is piecing together deep house and techno, and across two sumptuous 10"s we are treated to the full breadth of his talents. The ethereal beauty of "Lateral Flection" offers nary a kick drum, with Weisemann instead focusing on layering intricate sonic atmospherics. "Tidal Wave", meanwhile, conjures images of a gentle ocean rather than tsunamis, and the sparse, barely-there percussion and ghostly whispers on "Placid Love" mark it as perhaps the most beautiful moment on the LP. A well worn phrase it may be, but these tracks need to heard through a nice set of speakers or headphones for the listener to fully appreciate the subtle textures and electronic nuances. Some six months on from it's original release and both the A Side and it's flipside counterpart "Angel Brain" still sound just as current, and there's the added bonus of them now being housed on a particularly ripe looking Pineapple coloured ten inch. Review: Following the "Detroit Beatdown", known better as Theo Parrish 'Falling Up' (Carl Craig remix), comes the next vinyl release in the first chapter of Detroit Beatdown. Released as a limited 10", this EP demonstrates the housier, jazzier side to Third Ear's Detroit Beatdown project. Even so, these are kicking tracks, typical of all dance floor orientated music that comes out of Detroit, with deep grooving bass lines and great drum programming. Side-A is Amp Fiddler, using his Amp Dog Knight moniker, and Jovante working together. Amp Fiddler needs no introduction. His distinctive voice and keys keep the vibe set by Malik Alston with his own piano flourishes. Amp's wah-wah electric piano is a dope sound, and works brilliantly on this track. Jovante is a talented newcomer on the Detroit scene. Jovante adds live drum programming, live timbales, and flute. Together, Amp and Jovante give the track a grooving, carnival feel. Malik Alston contributes additional production. Side-B is Malik Pittman from 3 Chairs giving Darren Abrams' "Loose Piano" a work over. The original track on Detroit Beatdown Volume One, was many people's favourite, and this remix displays a wonderful loose piano riff, with pumping bass and glitchy percussion. The track is perfect for building the vibe and getting those first hands in the air on the dancefloor.

His deep powerful vocals add a haunting, thought-provoking and unforgettable refrain to this Jamaica-meets-outer-space cut that is utterly hypnotic. Sexy, driving percussion is paired with cosmic bits and transformative echo effects, giving the classic dub sound a whole new life.

Coco's Nuts (Social Disco Club remix)
Review: Fledgling imprint Elevator People release their third EP, leaving Austrian born, London based Giulio DJ in charge of this lovely little 10". "Coco's Nuts" is a subtle Balearic beast, with a funky guitar riff riding shuffling drum patterns and a slow BPM. Portguese producer Social Disco Club, who can't seem to put a foot wrong at the moment, chips in with a spacey chugger on the flip. Top release.

Just Can't Leave It Alone
Too Many Facets
Review: Lone's Magic Wire imprint - until now a conduit for Matt Cutler's own productions - opens its door to the fledgling talents of Neon Jung. The first two releases on Magic Wire announced Lone's change of musical direction in consummate style last year, initially with the "Pineapple Crush" single and then the excellent Emerald Fantasy Tracks mini album. Neon Jung's release - pressed up on a nice little 10" - certainly adheres to the Magic Wire ethos of drawing on classic influences and dipping them in contemporary sonic aesthetics, with the two tracks dripping with seriously raved-up chords and a vintage electro bump. "Just Can't Leave It Alone" is a killer mutant house jam that bumps and twists in all the right places. The midway breakdown shows just how tough those drums really are! Flip over for "Too Many Facets", which fuses a hyperactive synth melody to a quicker broken beat, very much suiting the rainbow coloured artwork that adorns the vinyl. An excellent little package.

Mass X
Review: Right, you know the drill. New Firecracker 10". Sumptuous artwork? Check. Killer music? Checkity check. Gavin Sutherland aka Fudge Fingas is the man behind the seventh instalment in the cult series, with A-Side cut "What Works" showing a move away from the soulful strains of his recent long player for Prime Numbers and towards moody, shuffling Detroit house. It seems fitting that remix duties are handed to Vakula - it was Firecracker after all who first showcased the Ukrainian producer's sounds to a wider audience - and despite his prolific form in recent times, his appearance here still feels very special indeed. Unsurprisingly, he turns in a memorable, highly atmospheric remix of "What Works", before another Fudge original, the chiming sea of calm that is "Mass X", rounds off an essential release.

Saturn V - "The Fresh Heir"
Traxx/DMC - "Modem"
Review: In advance of his forthcoming album for Nation, multi-genre specialist James T Cotton teams up with label boss Traxx under their infrequent Saturn V collaborative project on this jet black ten that's backed with a Traxx & D'Marc Cantu collab. "The Fresh Heir" is filled with waves of live synth patterns expertly weaved over a relentless techno rhythm and it's the inherent musicality shown throughout that makes it something special. "Modern", the B Side trip from Traxx and DMC, is a bleep heavy warehouse jacker filled with thrilling John Carpenter synth washes and underpinned by ever so slightly unnerving acid vocals.

Review: Having launched in fine style with the crazed Moodymann meets Dance Mania genius of Bakey USTL, Firecracker's Unthank offshoot keeps the focus squarely on Eastern Europe with some equally fine productions from a more celebrated entity. If this year is going to be dedicated to anyone, Ukraine's favourite son must surely be on the list - treating our ears and your hips to a veritable bounty of expert releases on numerous labels of high repute - Dekmantel, 3rd Strike and Ethereal Sounds to name but three. Anyone who has indulged in just one of the aforementioned releases should need no prompting to check this ten inch - with Vakula drawing on a surfeit of influences such as AFX, Claro Intelecto and DBX across the three untitled tracks. The A Side is where the deepness lies whilst the flip contains an expansive deviation into subaqueous, stripped down, hypnotic minimalism. Don't be expecting "A Tender Place" Mk2 but do expect to be seriously impressed.

Fred Everything & 20For7 - "Friday" (feat Vanessa Baker - Crazy P dub)
Review: Second vinyl only sampler for the forthcoming digital only compilation that celebrates five years of Lazy Days with some classy remixers like Crazy P, Art of Tones and Ian Pooley taking on the label's best-loved tracks. This classy two-track ten kicks off with a Greg Wilson remix of "U Give Me" from Lovebirds which douses the crispness of the original in a sheen of resplendent pads, expertly dubbing out the vocal refrain and generally sexing proceedings up some. On the flip Crazy P tackle boss man Fred Everything's collab with 20 For 7 and Vanessa Baker, dropping a tightly wound burner filled with jagged arpeggios and bumping rhythms that ascends excellently into full on disco mode midway through.

A Tender Place
Nose Candy
Heroin
Review: Even if you weren't privy to the news that Firecracker had launched an offshoot, your immediate thought when grasping this inaugural release on Unthank would be that it had something to do with the Edinburgh imprint. Arriving in bespoke purple hand stamped sleeve art pressed on 10 inches of clear vinyl and wrapped in Japanese style plastic, it's one of this year's most attractive propositions for vinyl obsessives. This is all without even approaching the music, a debut peek into the musical mind of newcomer Bakey USTL, an Amsterdam dwelling Estonian producer. In "A Tender Place" Bakey has delivered one of the most disjointed, flagrantly risque, thumping eight minutes of house music your senses might be exposed to this year. In contrast to the sleaze on the A Side, the opposing proceedings open with the shuffling future soul abstractions of "Nose Candy" minimalist beatdown at it's finest, whilst "Heroin" marks a swift descent into the depths of South American narcotic noise. Thus the schizoid brilliance of the A Side is matched by the slightly menacing strangeness of the opposing side on a record which is limited in numbers and high on demand.

Review: Smallville stalwart Christopher Rau is currently in a rich vein of form - in recent times he's dropped some typical Pampa genius and been responsible for a slick remix of Drake & Griffiths tech house stomper "The Devils Eye". Ethereal Sounds boss Anton Zap handpicks as the next contributer to the background series - which has previously housed our favourite ES release from Uncle Deep. Handed such a task, Rau excels, crafting two deep jackers that come wrapped in a multiplicity of warm sounds - "Onion Smell" contains the best sounding kick drum we've heard since Uncle Pepe dropped "Deep Burnt" way back! Check "Tooth Brush & Rain" for a more percussive treatise on the KDJ template too. Big tip!

Skipson - "The Mel Skipson Project" (Editspot part 1)
Review: Who said clearing samples was a nightmare? Skipson - being a the good chap he is - sent the final version of "K's Editspot pt.1", which used Rob Mello samples, to the man himself for his blessing. Rob - also being a good chap - liked the new version so much he offered up a remix! And so the Mel Skipson Project was born, and thanks to Quintessentials both versions are now available to the record buying public in nicely presented 10" format. Mello's tweak is pure sweat-drenched peak time fodder with killer vocals pressed up against an acidic Chi-town bassline - big tip. Skipson's version is not as incendiary, opting instead for sampled crowd noises, deep Motor City chords and a straight up house bump. Killer release!

Review: Belgium label Curle released "Golden Dusk" from German artist Frank Martiniq in 2010 on 300 limited golden vinyls, selling out more or less instantly. Now in 2011 the deep techno cut is back, this time reworked by US deep house master Scott Grooves and Kataconda. "Panther Version" is dusky and warm from the offset, with low synths crawling and prowling seductively behind metallic and tightly sprung hi's. "Panther Beats" on the flip opens with and focuses on complex drums and beats, manipulated and worked to their full potential. Rapid hats, sharp cymbals and heavy kicks and patterns stream through in a captivating manner.

Another Thing
Review: Veteran UK act Inland KnightS team up with Derby duo Da Sunlounge for a ninth volume of ever so slightly cheeky deep house refixes on the Borrowed imprint. "A Little Bit More" craftily reworks one of last year's most eponymous pop tracks from a peroxide hit machine that featured the rapping talents of a daisy age legend and mouthy newcomer. Heavily filtered and driven by low bass frequencies, it's one of those tracks that will make people do a double take. Complementing this on the B Side is a lolloping E Funk style rework of the best legs in the business's most famous track. The object of many a rework and re-edit by everyone from Theo Parrish to Danny Krivit over the years, it's to the credit of all involved that "Another Thing" brings something different to the table.

The Journey (Scott Grooves & Kataconda Panther remix)
The Journey (Scott Grooves beats)
Review: Norm Talley's "The Journey" is somewhat of a modern day Detroit classic. A secret weapon of many, it's been a staple within record bags since its first release in May 2009. Scott Grooves is one of those, and in true Grooves style, he's done an edit of it. The difference with "The Journey" though, is that this the first of his countless edits he's actually released to the record buying public. "Panther Remix" is an endearingly low slung, subtle take on Norm's original made by Grooves and Kataconda. Rolling percussion and progressing chords envelope from the offset, and get increasingly endearing as the track chugs along. "Panther" is irresistibly mellow whilst retaining its Detroit house appeal. Flipping over, the Scott Grooves Beats version focuses on the hollow beat of the percussion, honing in on a breathtakingly simple loop.

Review: Gadi Mizrahi's Double Standard imprint graces our ears with yet more beautiful music from the prodigious Nicolas Jaar. Lead track "Wouh" is so slow it's almost going backwards, but Jaar layers the music perfectly, creating enough space between the downbeat hip-hop instrumentation to create a warm, soulful atmosphere. "Love You Gotta Lose Again" and "Don't Believe The Hype" share the B Side, the former featuring a pleasing vocal bouncing of twangy guitar licks, while the latter offers another insight into Jaar's love for downbeat, moody electronica. Presented in 10" all white vinyl, making for a killer all round package.

Here he turns up on Fine Art Recordings - one of Juno's favourite labels - with a remix from none other than Vakula to boot. The original version of "Rock Your Body" offers a dense array of swirling synths, tough drum hits and enchanting strings. The way the track dips and swirls towards a rousing finale is particularly memorable! Vakula's remix meanwhile floats in wonderfully textured melodies, with the strings slowly teased in. As one expects from Fine Art, the lovely music comes wrapped in lovely artwork too - highly collectable business here!

Ce N'est Pas Bon (JD Twitch edit) (5:20)
Review: Long term advocates of JD Twitch's selecting skills will be very happy to see the appearance of this 10" featuring the Optimo man's edit of Amadou & Mariam. Originally made back in 2008, this edit has been a staple of JD Twitch sets and was intended to be released as part of the third volume of the superb charity focused Autonomous Africa series that was issued earlier this year. Licensing issues put the kibosh on those plans, but with the edit having belatedly been granted permission Twitch elected to issue it as one off 10" instead of waiting for volume 4 in 2015. As with the best edits, Twitch's amendments to the original version of "Ce N'est Pas Bon" are subtle and understated, adding little rhythmic elements that make it easier to slip into a DJ set and hypnotise minds. All proceeds will once again go to the Mtandika mission in Tanzania.

Having previously released a superb EP from Budapest-based Imre Kiss, they've now turned to one of the country's more established names, S. Olbricht (an alias of producer Martin Mikolai). There's much to admire on this intoxicating four-tracker, from the alien electonics and hustling drums of leftfield techno opener "Fi", to the crackling, off-kilter rhythms and ghostly chords of "RPSTS". Elsewhere, Mikolai demonstrates his deep house nous on the warming "IIX1", and fuses twinkling melodies, creepy chords and a throbbing low-end groove on the similarly impressive "Veuns".
