Review: After many years turning out 12"s, Klasse Wrecks has decided to serve up a first-ever 10" and they give the honour to Mr. Ho. His '000 Baby' is a delightfully widescreen sound - a post-rave mix of comedown electronics, dusty breakbeats and soothing ambient pads with some smart vocal samples drifting like wispy clouds. On the flipside, we're treated to and OM Unit remix that beefs things up and speeds up the drums. The percussion too is more defined and the energy levels ramped up with deft 808 bass and searching acidic leads. A nice yin to the A-side's yang.

Review: Jurgen Paape has a brilliantly characterful sound and wrote one of our favourite silly records in 'Ofterschwang' some 13 years ago (go check it out, it's brilliant.) We're glad to hear some new music from the long time Kompakt legend and co-founder and once again it's not what you would expect. 'Allein' is a downbeat piece with oriental melodies and gently plucked strings over warm bass. It's not for the club, that is for sure, but the flip side version 'Allein In Italien' sure is. This one is a chugging and brit Italo disco number with retro 80s synth sounds and plenty of joyous grooves.

Review: Bless the Firecracker gods for their ongoing series of essential represses! The latest is their tremendous Firecracker 4 EP, originally released in 2009 and perhaps one of the Edinburgh label's definitive records - just look at all those DJs that have charted it above! Present is the absolutely epic, Dennis Parker-sampling "Barely Eagle" by Linkwood & House Of Traps on the A side plus Linkwood appearing again on the B side with his crafty edit of Tabou Combo Superstars 1979 classic "Ooh La La". Not forgetting Fudge Fingas "Situation Diminished" either; a nice, deep and smoky excursion through soulful blues territory. Not to be missed the second time around!

Review: Nothing beats a bit of clear vinyl, especially if it's got some badass electro pressed onto it. Its clear that Australian Inkswel, is of the electro-boogie persuasion and here's three tracks to prove it. "Do It" is catchy and crisp with lovely mid 80s synthpop vibes, "Tu Machito" is pure old skool electro and "LFO Bounce" is a fantastic b-boy drum box workout. Funkineven beefs up the latter hissy percussion and more melodies than you can shake a synth at.

Review: Fantastic Man, otherwise known as Mic Newman, helms the debut release on his own Fine Choice imprint, a vinyl only endeavour primed to fill the needs of the more discerning deep house aficionados out there. A fixture on the effervescent deep house scene in Melbourne (he's part of the tongue in cheek Melbourne Deep House Mafia) Newman has been expanding his discography in recent years with appearances on Tsuba and Murmur complemented by the rise of his Fantastic Man alias with key drops for Let's Play House and Wolf Music. Founding Fine Choice seems like an appropriate step right now, and the two tracks on this Late At Night 10" are true examples of sample laden, beat down house at its finest, both demonstrating his deft editing skills and talent for subaqueous grooves. Recommended.

Review: With a title like "The Way We Were", it's perhaps unsurprising that this latest missive from former Creme Organization artist Myriadd is a tribute to the glory days of '80s acid house. As you'd expect, it's authentically made, offering a rock-hard fusion of tough analogue drums, droning acid bass and 303-bating riffs. Although alien and icy, there's still a warmth to proceedings thanks to sympathetic mastering and Myriadd's use of vintage analogue gear. Even better, though, is John Heckle's remix, which somehow puts a rocket up the original and turns it into a sweaty, arms-raised belter. It may be called "The Way We Were", but it still sounds fresh.

Review: Brad Peterson and Rai Scott aka 2Deepsoul go limited edition and hand numbered for their white coloured 10" Earth Energy Part 1 EP on Spanish label Minuedo. Bubbling and acid toned squiggles dance upon staccato hi-hats and choral melodies in the upbeat and sweat sounding house cut "Serenade". Analogue warmth is ever present throughout the "The Silence of Winter", as hypnotic leads and LFO infected synths influence serenely sung vocals and top end EQ twiddles. A collector's must have.

Review: Firecracker's reputation has been based on pairing some classy deep house and disco productions with the kind of mouth watering art work that sends "hand to wallet" brainwaves coursing through your body. They kind of took it to an amusing extreme with the upfront edition of this Fudge Fingas heavy 10", which was clearly released to test the limits of feverish collectors. All manner of screen printed sleeves and inner sleeves and "authentic Ettore Sottsass 1982 printed fabric bag" clearly did the trick as all 46 copies now sit proudly in collections across the land. This being Firecracker, you could hardly call the full release of Untytled a "bog standard" edition with some rather pretty printed art sealed in a polythene bag. Music wise, two Fudge Fingas originals sandwich Linkwood getting the Fudge Fingas treatment with the effervescent, dusty business of the title track the clear winner for us!

Review: Starting up the Monochromatic imprint in style, two fine examples of deep house exploration show their skills off with a track each on this slab. Specter is up first, mixing together cavernous tones with cheeky FM bell leads and a strange off key chord stab for the central melodic hook, delivered through the Fred P school of atmospheric reverb usage while the beat ticks away dutifully. Having only scored a remix prior to this more noticeable appearance, Banfield Audio is supremely focused in their mission with a hypnotic square wave bassline and elegant drum machine beat, with very little else in the way of distractions.

Review: An Aeroplane classic gets the Deetron treatment on the second limited edition 10" release from the Eskimo label. Originally released as part of Aeroplane's ambitious debut LP We Can't Fly, the Merry Clayton featuring "I Don't Feel" had never been remixed before the Swiss producer was invited to rework it as part of the exhaustive, multi disc ten year anniversary Eskimonde compilation from the seminal Belgian imprint. No doubt the track had previously remained untouched due to Clayton's powerful vocal turn which melded perfectly with Vito De Luca's rubbery Hi NRG production, but you can't fault the way that Deetron has reworked it, laying down an extended intro that burns with intensity before dropping a thumping, precision tooled beat. A previously unreleased Instrumental version adds some heat on the flip.

Review: The latest transmission from Underground Quality HQ sees label boss Jus Ed at the helm on a swiftly delivered riposte to Dope Jams, having been included in the latest end of year diss list from the New York record store. That the Dum Jams 12" should arrive so soon after Dope Jams announced plans to close their store after seven years of selling records (and pissing people off) is ironic, but makes us wonder who really won here. There's a certain degree of cultural novelty inherent in the lead "Detox mix" which is thankfully balanced out by the tougher B Side "Techno Fuck" version.

Review: The seemingly unstoppable Rawax introduces us to yet another hot prospect; photographer and visual artist Robin Scholz. Conjuring sounds that are just as imaginative and illustrative as his visual work, "Track 1" is awash with waves of minor chords, spiralling synth flickers and a hypnotic sense of groove development while "Track 2" takes a low-speed adventure into the earliest phases of progressive house. Stunning stuff.

Review: New Ethereal vibes straight out of Russia! Unknown artist SH2000 marks the 22nd release for the label and it comes as a fresh addition to their already impressive catalogue. "Good News" is a wonky, acid-laden house excursion with sharp breakbeats and a studious arrangement of polyphony and effects. Over on the flip, Yuri Shulgin takes care of the remix and emphasises the disconnection between the breakbeats to full effect. It almost sounds like a dub version of the original and it's exactly the sort of thing which we like to hear. Exquisite productions from a great independent label!

Review: While there might be something no-nonsense about the tools MS has at their disposal for the latest Rawax emission, and there's certainly no nonsense to be found in the track titles ("Get Down 1, 2 and 3" respectively), there's actually a sophistication at work that belies the rugged Chicagoisms of the production values. "Get Down 1" especially bubbles and soothes with a dense bed of synths that call to mind the finest aqueous ambient tracks. "Get Down 2" is far more primal with its sparse drums n' bass refrain, while "Get Down 3" is equally direct albeit with a more angular funk to the beats.

Review: A double dose of Filburt and the GoodGuy goodness this week as the Leipzig duo complement their excellent Jacob Korn collaboration on Permanent Vacation with this dinkified ten inch debut for the Riotvan imprint. If you've dipped into the Mikesh & Filburt contributions to Mirau, Permanent Vacation or Liebe Detail Spezial you'll be well aware of what to expect from "No Other"; those coming to this release with inquisitive ears will be rewarded by one of the more shamelessly uplifting tracks to emerge over the summer months. A vocal turn brimming with soul sits atop what can only be described as a chord driven old school piano house banger which really deserves widespread appreciation. Permanent Vacation's in-house duo of Benji and Tom take it deeper on the flip with a little help from The Drifter - last seen on an Erdbeerschnitzel cut.

Review: Killer debut turn on Mr Zap's Ethereal Sounds label from Miruga, last seen appearing on the appropriately named Drift Deeper label at the turn of 2012. Ethereal Sound completists will gladly add the Human Tube EP to their collection, with the two tracks from the Japanese producer a perfect fit for the label's aesthetic. Commencing with freeform percussive touches cascading around the channels, the title track eventually settles into a thick set groove, with a glacial sheen somehow keeping a lid on the many layers of texture and found sound that Miruga packs inbetween. It has that dual sensation of busy and calm that punctuates so much Ethereal Sound output and is complemented by the facedown business of "This Side Of Sunshine", a bonafide entry into deep house authenticity. A central playful axis between stop start piano samples caked in vinyl crackle and equally dusty drums is complemented by some well judged chord shimmers that remain just within ear shot - you can picture Peterson investing in fresh pants at the mere prospect of playing this one.

Review: After Hakim Murphy and Ike Release inaugurated the Innerspace Halflife project earlier this year with a sublime debut on the former's Machining Dreams imprint - they now grace Aroy Dee's ever excellent MOS Deep label with a further enthralling journey. Even if the aforementioned Cosmology EP passed you by, you should be familiar enough with the respective solo endeavours of both producers to be suitably excited by "Wind". You won't be disappointed either, with the track unfurling from its icy origins into a monstrous arrangement dominated by the fluctuating acid bassline and razor sharp hi-hats, while the soaring chords that intermittently spread expansively over proceedings add brief moments of Utopian calm amid the relentless jacking pressure. This is complemented by a solo Ike Release cut in the shape of "Phazzled" which adopts a more atmospheric tone as ever present clouds of analogue fx add a hazy sensation to the strident drum programming and woozy chord arrangements - quite aptly described by MOS Deep as "classicist house with a future perspective".

Review: Lone's Magic Wire imprint - until now a conduit for Matt Cutler's own productions - opens its door to the fledgling talents of Neon Jung. The first two releases on Magic Wire announced Lone's change of musical direction in consummate style last year, initially with the "Pineapple Crush" single and then the excellent Emerald Fantasy Tracks mini album. Neon Jung's release - pressed up on a nice little 10" - certainly adheres to the Magic Wire ethos of drawing on classic influences and dipping them in contemporary sonic aesthetics, with the two tracks dripping with seriously raved-up chords and a vintage electro bump. "Just Can't Leave It Alone" is a killer mutant house jam that bumps and twists in all the right places. The midway breakdown shows just how tough those drums really are! Flip over for "Too Many Facets", which fuses a hyperactive synth melody to a quicker broken beat, very much suiting the rainbow coloured artwork that adorns the vinyl. An excellent little package.

Review: In advance of his forthcoming album for Nation, multi-genre specialist James T Cotton teams up with label boss Traxx under their infrequent Saturn V collaborative project on this jet black ten that's backed with a Traxx & D'Marc Cantu collab. "The Fresh Heir" is filled with waves of live synth patterns expertly weaved over a relentless techno rhythm and it's the inherent musicality shown throughout that makes it something special. "Modern", the B Side trip from Traxx and DMC, is a bleep heavy warehouse jacker filled with thrilling John Carpenter synth washes and underpinned by ever so slightly unnerving acid vocals.

Review: Second vinyl only sampler for the forthcoming digital only compilation that celebrates five years of Lazy Days with some classy remixers like Crazy P, Art of Tones and Ian Pooley taking on the label's best-loved tracks. This classy two-track ten kicks off with a Greg Wilson remix of "U Give Me" from Lovebirds which douses the crispness of the original in a sheen of resplendent pads, expertly dubbing out the vocal refrain and generally sexing proceedings up some. On the flip Crazy P tackle boss man Fred Everything's collab with 20 For 7 and Vanessa Baker, dropping a tightly wound burner filled with jagged arpeggios and bumping rhythms that ascends excellently into full on disco mode midway through.

Review: Even if you weren't privy to the news that Firecracker had launched an offshoot, your immediate thought when grasping this inaugural release on Unthank would be that it had something to do with the Edinburgh imprint. Arriving in bespoke purple hand stamped sleeve art pressed on 10 inches of clear vinyl and wrapped in Japanese style plastic, it's one of this year's most attractive propositions for vinyl obsessives. This is all without even approaching the music, a debut peek into the musical mind of newcomer Bakey USTL, an Amsterdam dwelling Estonian producer. In "A Tender Place" Bakey has delivered one of the most disjointed, flagrantly risque, thumping eight minutes of house music your senses might be exposed to this year. In contrast to the sleaze on the A Side, the opposing proceedings open with the shuffling future soul abstractions of "Nose Candy" minimalist beatdown at it's finest, whilst "Heroin" marks a swift descent into the depths of South American narcotic noise. Thus the schizoid brilliance of the A Side is matched by the slightly menacing strangeness of the opposing side on a record which is limited in numbers and high on demand.

Review: Smallville stalwart Christopher Rau is currently in a rich vein of form - in recent times he's dropped some typical Pampa genius and been responsible for a slick remix of Drake & Griffiths tech house stomper "The Devils Eye". Ethereal Sounds boss Anton Zap handpicks as the next contributer to the background series - which has previously housed our favourite ES release from Uncle Deep. Handed such a task, Rau excels, crafting two deep jackers that come wrapped in a multiplicity of warm sounds - "Onion Smell" contains the best sounding kick drum we've heard since Uncle Pepe dropped "Deep Burnt" way back! Review: Who said clearing samples was a nightmare? Skipson - being a the good chap he is - sent the final version of "K's Editspot pt.1", which used Rob Mello samples, to the man himself for his blessing. Rob - also being a good chap - liked the new version so much he offered up a remix! And so the Mel Skipson Project was born, and thanks to Quintessentials both versions are now available to the record buying public in nicely presented 10" format. Mello's tweak is pure sweat-drenched peak time fodder with killer vocals pressed up against an acidic Chi-town bassline - big tip. Skipson's version is not as incendiary, opting instead for sampled crowd noises, deep Motor City chords and a straight up house bump. Killer release!

Review: Belgium label Curle released "Golden Dusk" from German artist Frank Martiniq in 2010 on 300 limited golden vinyls, selling out more or less instantly. Now in 2011 the deep techno cut is back, this time reworked by US deep house master Scott Grooves and Kataconda. "Panther Version" is dusky and warm from the offset, with low synths crawling and prowling seductively behind metallic and tightly sprung hi's. Review: Veteran UK act Inland KnightS team up with Derby duo Da Sunlounge for a ninth volume of ever so slightly cheeky deep house refixes on the Borrowed imprint. "A Little Bit More" craftily reworks one of last year's most eponymous pop tracks from a peroxide hit machine that featured the rapping talents of a daisy age legend and mouthy newcomer. Heavily filtered and driven by low bass frequencies, it's one of those tracks that will make people do a double take. Complementing this on the B Side is a lolloping E Funk style rework of the best legs in the business's most famous track. The object of many a rework and re-edit by everyone from Theo Parrish to Danny Krivit over the years, it's to the credit of all involved that "Another Thing" brings something different to the table.

Review: Norm Talley's "The Journey" is somewhat of a modern day Detroit classic. A secret weapon of many, it's been a staple within record bags since its first release in May 2009. Scott Grooves is one of those, and in true Grooves style, he's done an edit of it. The difference with "The Journey" though, is that this the first of his countless edits he's actually released to the record buying public. "Panther Remix" is an endearingly low slung, subtle take on Norm's original made by Grooves and Kataconda. Rolling percussion and progressing chords envelope from the offset, and get increasingly endearing as the track chugs along. "Panther" is irresistibly mellow whilst retaining its Detroit house appeal. Flipping over, the Scott Grooves Beats version focuses on the hollow beat of the percussion, honing in on a breathtakingly simple loop.

Review: Gadi Mizrahi's Double Standard imprint graces our ears with yet more beautiful music from the prodigious Nicolas Jaar. Lead track "Wouh" is so slow it's almost going backwards, but Jaar layers the music perfectly, creating enough space between the downbeat hip-hop instrumentation to create a warm, soulful atmosphere. "Love You Gotta Lose Again" and "Don't Believe The Hype" share the B Side, the former featuring a pleasing vocal bouncing of twangy guitar licks, while the latter offers another insight into Jaar's love for downbeat, moody electronica. Presented in 10" all white vinyl, making for a killer all round package.

Here he turns up on Fine Art Recordings - one of Juno's favourite labels - with a remix from none other than Vakula to boot. The original version of "Rock Your Body" offers a dense array of swirling synths, tough drum hits and enchanting strings. The way the track dips and swirls towards a rousing finale is particularly memorable! Vakula's remix meanwhile floats in wonderfully textured melodies, with the strings slowly teased in. Review: Magic Wire come through with a much needed repress of the magnificent rave thump of their debut release, "Pineapple Crush" from Lone. Some six months on from it's original release and both the A Side and it's flipside counterpart "Angel Brain" still sound just as current, and there's the added bonus of them now being housed on a particularly ripe looking Pineapple coloured ten inch. For the uninitiated "Pineapple Crush" lays down relentless heavy rave stabs on top a crashing 808 pattern underpinned by that distinctive Think break and topped off by a unique melody. Amidst the pounding 130bpm bass drums and euphoric rave stabs of B Side "Angel Brain" Lone works in a brilliantly fuzzy melody which shimmers with intent on the glorious breakdown. It also gives us another opportunity to implore you to seek out his brilliant mini LP Emerald Fantasy Tracks.

Review: Following the "Detroit Beatdown", known better as Theo Parrish 'Falling Up' (Carl Craig remix), comes the next vinyl release in the first chapter of Detroit Beatdown. Released as a limited 10", this EP demonstrates the housier, jazzier side to Third Ear's Detroit Beatdown project. Even so, these are kicking tracks, typical of all dance floor orientated music that comes out of Detroit, with deep grooving bass lines and great drum programming. Side-A is Amp Fiddler, using his Amp Dog Knight moniker, and Jovante working together. Amp Fiddler needs no introduction. His distinctive voice and keys keep the vibe set by Malik Alston with his own piano flourishes. Amp's wah-wah electric piano is a dope sound, and works brilliantly on this track. Jovante is a talented newcomer on the Detroit scene. Jovante adds live drum programming, live timbales, and flute. Together, Amp and Jovante give the track a grooving, carnival feel. Malik Alston contributes additional production. Side-B is Malik Pittman from 3 Chairs giving Darren Abrams' "Loose Piano" a work over. The original track on Detroit Beatdown Volume One, was many people's favourite, and this remix displays a wonderful loose piano riff, with pumping bass and glitchy percussion. The track is perfect for building the vibe and getting those first hands in the air on the dancefloor.
