Total XTC (Fixate remix) (4:42)
Way Back When (feat Esther Durin - Halogenix remix) (5:07)
Review: Get unstuck with these two delicious refixes from Unglued's debut 2021 album Interplanetary Radio as two of the most highly respected beat carvers apply their scalpels to one of Hospital's most exciting new-generation stars. The ravey 'Total XTC' is perfect fodder for Exit's Fixate as he winds up the 4x4s and laces it with his own special hardcore essence. The super sweet soul of 'Way Back When' is also a perfect fit for its remixer as Halogenix brings a whole new hazy shade to the dreamy vibes. Far out.

When The Devil's Paid (Alex Trebo remix) (5:38)
When The Devil's Paid (Vanilla Dream DnB remix) (8:12)
Review: Here's a spot of unlikely cross-cultural collaboration, as Finnish jazz man Timo Lassy joins forces with veteran Brazilian soul man Ed Motta. The resultant cut, "When The Devil's Paid", is a summery and sun-kissed chunk of gentle samba-soul with Motta providing a typically breezy and emotion rich vocal. Lassy's old pal Jimi Tenor heads up the accompanying remix package, wrapping the original's snaking sax and heartfelt vocals over a hybrid electronic/acoustic groove. Elsewhere, Alex Trebo delivers a sensual nu-jazz rub and Vanilla Dream unfurls a pleasingly punchy and jazzy drum and bass interpretation. When the weather outside is grey and damp, stick this on and all will be well with the world.

Toriton EP

Toriton (WPH version) (9:07)
Lalalalaland (7:33)
Review: Although Satoshi Fumi has been releasing music since the dawn of the millennium, we're not sure he's ever made a better record than this first EP for We Play House. For proof, check A-side "Toriton", a fresh version of a 2016 cut that brilliantly joins the dots between 1990s Japanese deep house don Mr YT, British intelligent techno and the far-sighted sci-fi techno of fellow Tokyo resident Ken Ishii. If that wasn't enough to set the pulse racing, B-side "Lalalalaland", a Balearic-minded, piano-heavy dance through saucer-eyed dream house territory with added sunrise-friendly synthesizers, is arguably even better. In other words, you need this record in your life.

Find My Way (Marius Circus disco dub)
Review: Deep Balearica beckons as Almunia conjures a spell-binding fusion of guitars and studio effects. Imagine Andrew Weatherall producing Simon and Garfunkel. The soundtrack to the perfect sunset, this gradually builds with the most genuine euphoria that could possibly be mustered in a studio. For a proper dancefloor jolt, jump on Marius Circus's dub... Armed with a pumping 4/4, mild acid squirts and heavy dub effects on the guitar, it's the soundtrack to the perfect night that follows the perfect sunset. Make sure this finds its way to your collection.

Lolita (2:39)
Keep It Movin' (2:58)
Plot Twist (2:20)
Review: Lolina is Inga Copeland aka London based Russian songstress Alina Astrova, who was formerly part of defunct cult favourite Hype Williams. On these three short tracks she sings out of tune over dirty grime beats on "Lolita" or "Plot Twist" and delivers an electro-infused indie-pop ditty on "Keep It Movin". Like previous records 'Live In Paris' and 'RELAXIN' With Lolina', this has been self-released. Hype Williams were a music and art group best known for consisting of UK-born artist Dean Blunt and collaborated with Copeland between 2007 and 2012 in this self-described 'relay project' which passed between the artists every five years.

Track 1 (7:20)

Track 3 (5:13)
Review: Less than two months after the first mysterious VEDIT release sold out in record time, the publicity-shy re-edit series returns. The first of a trio of untitled scalpel works is a thrilling low-slung dub disco affair that wraps sparkling electronic sounds and vocal samples around a surging, bass-heavy groove and stomping beats. Turn to the B-side for some solo-heavy jazz-funk/disco fusion (the instrumental workout "Track 2") and a wonderfully cosmic, dubbed-out take on the kind of smooth and spacey, late night cut that would once have inspired DJ Harvey and the rest of the Black Cock edits crew.

Track 3 (6:36)
Review: After visiting Australia earlier in the year, Vakula decided to join forces with Sydney-based crate-digger Daniel Lupica to launch Tropical Jam, a global-minded re-edit imprint. This tasty ten-inch marks the label's debut, and as you might expect, it's really rather good. All of the material going under the knife is thoroughly obscure, but also rather good. They open with a punchy and floor-friendly rearrangement of a horn-heavy disco-funk jam of African origin, before working their magic on a low-slung Afro-boogie gem full of low-slung bass, synthesized marimba melodies, flash-fried funk guitars and delay-laden vocal snippets. A brilliant package is completed by an extended take on a soulful, boogie-era Caribbean reggae jam.

Bluebird (7:03)
Number 13 (6:35)
Review: After the widespread acclaim for "Shoulders Back" and "July V", Leif fires up his 10" TIO Series with another pair of dazzling, future-minded cuts for the more inquisitive dancefloor. Increasingly he's been moving away from house and techno conventions towards intriguing broken beat variations, and that's apparent in abundance on this new release. "Bluebird" rides on a set of tough but dynamic drum ripples, but the stand-out element is the gorgeous twinkling arpeggio that pirouettes over the top of the beat. "Number 13" meanwhile takes a moodier, dubbier approach without losing that deft programming, harmonic warmth and crafty rhythmic interplay that has become Leif's calling card in recent times.

Review: Hot on the heels of the VEDIT crew's second sold-out 10" comes volume three. As usual, there's no info about either the tracks going under the scalpel or those involved, just a trio of on-point reworks to add sparkle to your DJ sets. We're particularly enjoying the A-side interpretation, which offers a spacey and lightly dubbed version of a fizzing disco-funk number full of spiraling synthesizer solos, spacey effects, clipped guitars and sweaty drum solos. On the flipside the publicity-shy scalpel fiends first rearrange a Clavinet and electric piano-solo laden disco-funk wriggler before dipping their toes into the multi-coloured world of cosmic disco with predictably impressive results.

Review: Serbia's Disco Fruit crew continue to bring the heat with their razor sharp edits and productions mining the golden era of funk-fuelled part music. On this occasion Dr Packer and Loshmi have joined forces for two certified bangers that rank highly on the boogie scale. "In Case Of Emergency" is a tidy reworking of Gayle Adams' "Emergency" that keeps the groove heavy but stretches the jam out for extended dancefloor pleasure. On the flip, it's British funk outfit Delegation that get the Disco Fruit treatment, winding up with the stretched out delights of "House In Downtown," guaranteed to get any soiree worth its salt shaking down to the ground.

Review: Destination Rio: Barefoot Beats stamp into the new year with these two sunkissed, hip-slinking workouts. Disco doyen Dicky rolls out a steamy percussive affair that builds on every 16 with layers of percussion, horns and dubby overlays. Flip for "Tata Giro" from Rio's own Joutro Mundo; an instant beach number with big vocals, fantastic attention to detail and a squidged out bassline that wriggles without end. Soul for the soles... Review: Masterworks Music returns with The Masters Series: their illustrious 10" vinyl-only brand. On this fourth instalment is some 'cracking' tackle for any modern disco head... sure to blaze up the night!' courtesy of Obas Nenor. The Tel Aviv based producer has appeared previously on Defected, Heist Recordings Strictly Rhythm, Mahogany Music and his own label, Nenorian. Now unleashing his 'weirdo disco' style where he packs his studio creations within a tidy, 10" format on a double-header with "Candies" on the A-side: which is a cheeky little boogie down jam on the deeper tip. Has more cowbells and vocoders than you can shake a Telex record at. Holding down the B-side is the well funky "Stay" with its chunky Moog bassline leading a tight, sun-kissed groove that will be sure to get any serious Disco Stu working up a sweat on the dancefloor in no time.

Review: Last time out Kieron Ifill AKA K15 was sharing vinyl space with legendary British techno producer Mr G. This time round, he's back on a solo mission, laying down three deep and expansive tracks for the mighty Eglo Records. Opener "Sunbeams" is undoubtedly a slab of hazy summer sunshine, with Ifill encasing a jaunty samba groove in lilting Rhodes riffs and Kaidi Tatham style synthesizer solos. The influence of Tatham's Herbie Hancock-inspired approach can also be heard on the intergalactic jazz-funk positivity of "Sunbeams 3", while "Essencia" is deliciously woozy and glassy eyed, with yearning melodies and analogue synthesizer chords rising above skittish jazz drums.

Da Plant (4:03)
Review: Paris' excellent Dockside Records is back with another total winner, once again from Detroit's Gari Romalis, who appears here under his electro-minded DJ SCSI moniker. "7 Miles" is some pure Michigan heat, thrashing out raw, distorted bass sonics over a minimal, stripped-back beat groove that has Roland written all over it! The B-side features "Da Plant", a more house-minded nugget that still retains much of Romalis' industrial outlook, and that inimitable machine movement that can only come from a city like Detroit. Two burners, one ten inch, and some gnarly bass vibes.

Let Me Keep Away From You
Review: Destination mid 70s Nairobi where Madagascan guitarist Jimmy Mawi was laying down some serious vibes... Signed to EMI's Pathe imprint, he released three singles during his career which have all since faded to obscurity. Until now. Dusty, garagey and steaming with raw blues fusion, it's hard to deny any parallels to Hendrix as Mawi expresses himself with a rough heartfelt frenzy. Highlights include the Zep-level smoked out soul of "Blue Star Blues" and the insistent drive and reverbed out faraway vocals on "Black Dialogue". Another exemplary Afro-funk find from Soundway.

I Hate Models - "Requiem Of Desolation" (9:39)
Umwelt - "Requiem Of Haunted Warehouse" (6:39)
Review: Given a choice between raving or dying, almost all of us would grab a whistle, crack open a fresh pot of Vicks and head straight for the nearest warehouse. That's certainly the approach that would be taken by Rave or Die label boss Umwelt, whose releases continue to sound track messy nights out in fields and former factories the world over. His contribution to the label's tenth EP, "Requiem For A Haunted Warehouse", is fittingly titled: its spooky melody lines, unsettling low-end chords and bustling, house-tempo hardcore breakbeats could easily soundtrack an occult gathering of techno Ghostbusters. Fellow French producer I Hate Models takes a slightly different approach on the A-side, wrapping mutilated ice cream van chimes and intense acid lines around a thumping, kick-drum heavy rhythm track.

Review: For the latest missive on their fast-rising DET313 label, Gary Martin and Yossi Amoyal have dug deep into the archives of Martin's long-running Teknotika Records imprint. First up on the A-side is a re-mastered version of "A City At Night", a Martin cut from 1990 that mixes the futurist intent of Motor City techno with chunkier, UK style techno grooves and the kind of stabs and musical flourishes more associated with Robert Hood or Terrence Parker records. Side B boasts a freshly extended edit of another Martin gem - this time under the Gigi Galaxy alias - from 1994. "The Dream" more than lives up to its title, with Martin wrapping restless bass, starry lead lines, alien electronics and sumptuous chords around a hypnotic deep techno groove.
