Pimping People In High Places (Woodword Ave alternative mix) (6:52)
The Medusa Touch (6:50)
Review: WHITE VINYL REPRESS: Gary Martin is well known for his unique productions and his label Teknotika is surely a classic coming out of the famous motor city. This special 10" holds two sought after tracks that were found on a lost DAT tape by Yossi Amoyal and Gary Martin himself. On the A side we have a long time secret weapon, it's a hypnotic groove that was heard on many classic sets, Zip and Ben Klock to name a few. An extremely insane, hard to find Gigi Galaxy track that was changing hands for silly prices is on the B side, for those who know... massive release!

Review: Quite when Record Store Day starts and ends amidst all the vinyl delays we're all suffering from is anyone's guess these days. But this is a record set for that celebration of all things waxy and it is a limited 10" with tracks by Edi Fitzroy and DATC Dubcrew which were all produced by Mikey Dread. It comes on hand numbered copies on solid red, solid green and solid gold coloured vinyl. 'The Gun' kicks off with withering synth work and fat rolling rhythms before 'Invasion' sinks into a much slower, deeper dub. Flipside versions offer more rib rattling bass and pillowy drum

Review: V Recordings' appropriately named 'Chronic Rollers' is back with another bomb cut. The lead tune here came to acclaim first when Kenny played it during his Formations Records Black History Month Stream on D&BTV and since then it has had plenty of heavy plays. Here it gets served up as three different versions with a dub, reggae and jungle mix. The first is the reggae version with big, steel plated drums and plenty of bounce. The dub mix then pairs things back and allows the FX room to breathe and the jungle mix is a real peak time roller.

The World Is Full Of Plankton (7:59)
All Is Harvest (6:45)
The Emptiness Of Nothingness (6:45)
Review: Not a lot sounds like The Amorphous Androgynous, which is a relief because with a name like that you really do need to back it up with something experiential. A quick search online can tell anyone the duo - better known as Future Sound of London - have a strange relationship with Noel Gallagher, having recorded with him only to then be told by the Manchester man the outcome was shit so he destroyed the masters. Apparently these then turned up in a sock circa 2018 and you could almost be forgiven at least one of the tracks is here.

Actually, The World Is Full of Plankton comprises three tracks from 2005's album Alice in Ultraland, but the wailing, trippy, spaced out vocals that float in and out of dominance on the title number almost sound like the old Oasis lad. It's a deep and very operatic affair, which contrasts the exotic spatiality of 'All Is Harvest' and the prog rock piano stepper, 'The Emptiness of Nothingness'. Amazing stuff.

Pressure (M-Beat remix) (5:52)
Review: Fugitive is a production duo made up of Aquasky's Dave Wallace and Shaun O'Hara, who also recorded as Mad Dog and Special Red amongst many other projects in the early 90s. Now they're back on Sub System with 'Pressure', a rowdy slice of D&B with some lively sampling that has all the Akai crunch you could wish for. It's not clear if it's an archive rip or a new joint, but either way it's got more than enough goods to mash up the dance. As if that wasn't enough, veritable legends M-Beat are on the B-side offering a remix which leans back on the beat and gives the toasting MC ample space to do his thing.

Impulsive Behavior (6:20)
Void (5:02)
Review: Under Black Helmet's 'Impulsive Behaviour' has never made it to vinyl before so this 10" pressing is welcome indeed. It has long been in demand and a secret weapon of many. It's pressed here with 'Void' on the flip which is a rock solid, broken beat monsters. The synths rattle like metal in the wind, howling vocals bring the darkness and make it a perfect cut for vast, grotty warehouse deployment. The standout though is of course 'Impulsive Behaviour' a rolling techno master with buried bass, edgy synths peeling off the linear grover and a real sense of ever building techno momentum.

Sika Be Ba (5:06)
Review: A 10" featuring the finest that highlife has to offer, Crentsil was a figurehead of Ghanian music during the 70s and 80s who was introduced to highlife music at the turn of the 90s - a combination of pop, jazz, disco, and funk. 'Obi Baa Wiase' and 'Sika Be Ba' are two tracks with a close-knit message of gratitude, hope and faith between them, with the former being the staple track of Crentsil's long career after being played at weddings, festivals, and live concerts by local bands. A pair of incredible tracks produced by Charles Amoah utilising limited equipment to create an authentic party atmosphere, jovial flutes and plucky strings are the accompaniment to A.B. Entsils's proclamation of joy - put this on at the party and the room are sure to start moving.

Review: More fresh behaviour from the Cosmic Bridge builder Om Unit. This time focusing his energies on the 150-ish section of the BPM scale, across five tracks 'Flux' takes us to some exciting places. We're disarmed by ambience ('Process'), massaged by dubby uptempo shakers ('Angels', shuffled up steppy, spacious techno ('Ramp'), twisted by contemporary electro translations ('Rubberneck') and sent back home to bed with more wonderfully abstract and ambient synth washes that bring everything together ('Autumn Shadows') Highly recommended.

Mischief (7:12)
Review: Following previous drops from Mr Stone, Pico and Professor Balthasar, the Odd Numbers label continues its march into cheeky-but-deep house music with this cool and deadly two-tracker from CAB. Atop the steady-trucking, funkified undercarriage of 'Poppa' there's a mellow mood which should sit right with the current wave of deep but uptempo club gear doing the rounds. 'Mischief' has a smoky demeanour and plenty of wigged-out sounds creeping through the folds of the mix, but it's still primed for the peak time floor where it counts. The Odd Numbers crew prove once again to be a safe bet for the classiest of contemporary house with brains and brawn in equal measure.

Love's Got Me High (Marc Romboy Systematic Soul remix) (6:46)
Love's Got Me High (Jimpster remix) (6:36)
Review: A decade ago, Marc Romboy decided that he wanted to remix one of his favourite tunes, a 1995 cut by Terrence Parker as Seven Grand Housing Authority called 'Love's Got Me High'. He released his rework of the piano and organ-rich, gospel-influenced house track later the same year, pairing it with a similarly fresh Jimpster revision. You can enjoy both remixes on this ice-white vinyl reissue. Romboy's version is slower and even more emotionally resonant than Parker's original mixes, with hazy hand percussion and warming bass joining the Detroiter's vocals, organ and piano. Jimpster's take is chunkier, woozier and more hypnotic, with a lovely "soft-touch" feel and as much expansive musicality as you'd expect from the virtuoso musician turned deep house producer.

Clear Skyz (1996 VIP) (5:45)
Review: By the time the public could get their hands on it in 1998, DJ Die's 'Clear Skyz' had already become a D&B anthem in the producer's home city of Bristol. Die and his close confidantes within the West Country - think Roni Size and DJ Krust, for starters - had been rinsing his original 'VIP Mix' of the track off dubplate for two years, though until now that version had never been released. Fittingly pressed to a single-sided 10", it's a more raw, lo-fi and mind-altering version than the 1998 single take, with more extensive use of dub style bleeps and delay trails, creepier electronic flourishes and plenty of chances to admire Die's hazy, techno style synth stabs. A genuine slab of D&B history.

Caramel Chameleon opens up with a couple of tunes that he says are inspired by memories he has of childhood when he would walk on green hills. 'Sugary 2096 (Acid mix)' sure has a nostalgic feel, with its conversational synth leads and subtle acid lines washing over a crisp, punchy electro beat. O the flip is the more downbeat 'Apulian Feelings' with its rasping bassline and gentle, smeared chords bring a cosmic feel. A fine first EP.

Review: The impact of Weldon Irvine's music across a wealth of genres cannot be overstated with his jazzy piano playing and compositions regularly passed down to newer generations. Artists like Q-Tip and Mos Def are noted admirers of the jazz-funk artist, and the distinct sounds of Irvine echo across the ages in samples etched into hip-hop history. The album version of Time Capsule was originally released in 1973, and this 10" features two versions of 'Deja vu' on the A-side and 'Feelin' Mellow' and 'Watergate --- Don't Bug Me!' on the B.

The currently unavoidable Tim Reaper steps up first with his fine-tuned breakbeat chaos on 'Evergreen' before Technimatic member Wardown gives 'Home Movies' his own emotional twist. All breezy breaks and bags of space, he brings out the soul in every key stroke and guitar strum. Delivered on 10" but sounding XXXL, it's another essential BMTM outing.

This time they look to the legendary Spanish techno titan Oscar Mulero and fellow mainstay Umwelt for a pair of true blistering cuts. 'Taste The Rope' has brutal, blistering and distorted drums pummelling away while mysterious pads up top speak of an astral voyage. Review: Special tunes require special treatment and so it is that this monster drum & bass remix comes on its own light blue marbled, hand-stamped, one side and limited edition 12". The artist is unknown but the tune won't be. It is a throwback jam with a hefty piano line dropped in over a rugged bassline. The pitch shifted vocal soars and tugs at the heart strings, while low end wobble really minces your grey matter. The hoover sounds, sci-fi twitches, snatched vocal yelps and snares so sharp they pierce your ear drums all make this an absolute bomb.

Review: Alpha & Omega (who have album coming on Steppas) are an ever reliable duo that come on strong here with a limited edition 10" on Partial Records. 'Shuruaat Aur Ant' is a richly layered and deftly detailed modern dub cut. The steel plated drums and wub-wub bass set a firmly rooted groove, while all manner of intimating but subtle leads and vamping chords, tinkling tambourines and alluring vocals help to hypnotise. The flip side is a stripped back version, 'The Beginning & The End,' which is a more heady, empty cut.

They've put out some fine albums since 2016, most recently 2020's A Funky Bad Time, while this tidy Pressure 10" is their first outing of 2021. Representing both their pathways into this music, from north to south, the duo recruit the likes of London's Verbz and Manchester's Sleazy F Baby to vocal and narrate their delicate, subtle but ultimately heavyweight rhythms. Review: Here's a pleasant surprise: a fresh, forward-thinking collaboration between sometime Hessle Audio regular Pearson Sound and mutant reggaeton specialist Clara Sobrino, a Spanish vocalist and producer has previously worked with Low Jack. In its A-side vocal version form, 'Mi Cuerpo' genuinely offers the best of both artists' styles, and as a result sits somewhere between post-dubstep UK bass, dancehall and reggaeton. Sobrino's mostly spoken word vocals are stylish and sleazy sounding, adding extra layers of heat to an otherwise exemplary joint production. Turn to the flip for the instrumental version, which is naturally every bit as weighty, rhythmic and percussive.

His today 10" opens with a big bit of celebratory, hands in the air house. It was initially recorded between Vienna and New York in 2004 and 2006 with each artist responding to the other's compositions. Accompanying text says that the record fuses "unstructured and imaginative qualities of improvisation with the satisfying sculpture of composition." In short, it is a powerful ambient album with a quiet but devastating artistry. Heavy chords linger in the air, distant shakers take your mind away, foggy atmospheres are run through with gentle winds. It is beautifully melancholic.

Review: Velour's much loved album on Wolf Music gets the full remix treatment here. Four of the cuts get reworked by label associates old and new and it is mainstay Hulk Hodn who goes first. His take on 'Tom's Garage' is a noodling chords and late night seduction. South London's Footshooter then brings some big broken beat work and swirling synths to a floor facing jam, and Frits Wentink follows up his big recent Dekmantel release with a high energy stomper that bubbles with dreamy vocal charm. Last of all is super cool and jazz heavy 20/100 remix of 'Luminate' that is space age, Detroit tinged, sunset house.

Hello My Love (5:40)
Baby Please Don't Go (Oooh No) (5:34)
Review: How Do You Are? has another serving of super edits from the long ruling and always crucial Too Slow To Disco series. This tidy twosome comes from La based maestro Luxxury who firstly works his magic on a funky, dubbed out and space age disco roller that hovers at an inviting mid tempo. It is grown up dance music to get down to with a classic melody and vocal samples to send those shivers down your spine. An AOR classic is under the scalpel on the flip with 'Baby Please Don't Go (Oooh No)' rolling deep and slow on lush strings and Balearic pads.

Good Days (explicit) (4:43)

Review: SZA's sophomore 2017 album Ctrl remains one of contemporary r&b's best records of the last decade. It cleared up with awards and has had us hanging on tight for a follow up ever since. There is none on the horizon yet, but there have been a couple of singles in the last year. 'Good Days', on her home label Top Dawg Entertainment comes with clean and dirty versions. The tune has all the glossy synth work and swirling pads you would expect, with SZA's own aching vocals layering in the soul and vulnerability, while warm backing vocals add an extra element of goodness.

Electro
Unsaid (7:18)
Born In The USB (7:19)
Review: By his previously prolific standards, Keith Tenniswood AKA Radioactive Man has been rather quiet over the last few years, in part because he spends much of his time mixing and mastering work by other artists. Sonicus Coniclus, which arrives on a rather tidy ten-inch, is therefore a more than welcome release from the UK electro veteran. A-side 'Unsaid' is prime peak-time Tenniswood, with dubbed-out rave riffs and spacey synth sounds riding a heavy, redlined electro groove and a grumpy, bowel-bothering bassline. Tenniswood successfully dips the tempo on B-side 'Born in the USB', layering a slower electro beat and growling bassline with funky lead lines and shimmering synth sounds. Ace!

Review: Manuel Darquart is actually a couple of Kiwis named Louis Anderson-Rich (aka Louie From The Club) and Sean Whitaker, who nowadays live in London. They are back on local imprint Wolf Music after their debut for the label last year with this 10' featuring a couple of nice reworks of the track 'Keep It Dxy'. On the A side, we have got Italian Don Carlos' remix which takes the track into sunny balearic territory, while over on the flip you can enjoy the low-slung broken beat swing of Manny D's Sleazy Sunday mix.

Review: The next release on Shall Not Fade comes from none other than deep house legend, Fred P. Also renowned for his musical offerings as Black Jazz Consortium, the New York-bred, Berlin-based producer is accredited with over 100 releases, all instantly recognisable given their warmth, depth and modesty. The new 'Out All Night' EP tops up the roster, and is replete with shaky synth tremblings, underwater movements, and broken clap-drum assortments.
