Review: Finally, the debut Bochum Welt album Module 2 has been reissued after an initial run on Rephlex. Bochum Welt (Gianluigi Di Costanzo) has just recently celebrated 30 years of releasing music. His brand of IDM, electro and techno has been often copied but never equaled. His futuristic music seems to always be forward thinking and ultimately, timeless sounding. This edition is on matching green vinyl and includes all the classic material of the first release. Fans of AFX, Squarepusher and Cylob are sure to be aware of Bochum Welt. But for those who aren't....

Review: Dave Clarke's Red Series remains a vital benchmark in the evolution of UK techno. Released between 1993 and 1996, the three-volume run even managed to brush the UK top 40 back in the good old days when anything felt possible. Tracks like 'Wisdom To The Wise' will forever be etched in the make up of techno, and for very good reason. Now the whole series is being given a lavish reissue treatment which takes in all the original releases along with additional discs of rare, archival tracks and remixes, all bundled up in a box with a booklet and autographed by the Baron himself.

Review: Bleed Like Me was the hugely successful and critically acclaimed fourth studio album from Garbage. Originally released in 2005, the recording of the album had some ups and downs that included the band disbanding during recording and eventually cutting the subsequent tour short as well. Through all of that, the album reached number four on the top 200 Billboard chart which was higher than any of the previous more commercially successful albums. Although none of the songs were hits, the album sits very well with fans of the band. Nearly 20 years later, we finally get a vinyl version of the album! Spread across two lovely transparent red vinyl we get the Deluxe Version. Listen and enjoy one of the best rock bands of the past 30 years.

Review: Anoushka Shankar's Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn is a riveting sonic journey that seamlessly blends eastern and western musical sensibilities. From the rocking piano motifs of 'Pacifica' to the dreamy textures of 'Offering' and the mystical ambiance of 'Below the Surface,' each track unveils layers of evocative dreamscapes. Shankar's sitar weaves enchanting melodies, complemented by the soothing sounds of waves and voices. The album's fusion of instruments and tonalities creates a healing experience, inviting listeners to relax and float downstream. With its profound depth and beauty, Chapter II transcends mere background music, resonating as a genuine artistic expression. Anoushka Shankar offers a compelling soundtrack for introspection and tranquility.

Tears On Tape was their eighth and final album from the band whose career covered nearly 25 years. Originally released in 2013, this is the first reissue and fans of the band are celebrating that this will also be its' very first time on vinyl. Green vinyl that matches the artwork as well is a nice touch. Experience some of the last key tracks from this ground breaking band like 'All Lips Go Blue', 'Into the Night' and the title song 'Tears On Tape. Available here on double vinyl, the November 15, 2002, performance, a benefit for striking firefighters, stands as one of Strummer's final shows before his passing. A poignant highlight includes a three-song reunion with Clash bandmate Mick Jones, their first in two decades. The gatefold sleeve showcases unseen concert photos, accompanied by liner notes from Fire Brigade Union Secretary Andy Gilchrist. This release marks the first comprehensive vinyl and CD availability of this historic concert.

This wax version has all 20 tracks from the album and they span the entire length of the band's career from its start up until the point of release. It shows a subtle evolution in songwriting and sounds but always with that signature style that made the dance-pop icons so well-loved. Andy Bell and Vince Clarke are some of the most enduring and award-wining songwriting duos to ever come from the UK and this shows why.

Review: A triumphant return for modern synth-pop chart-toppers Everything Everything, Mountainhead is an album-length analogy for our present condition, and an oozing forth of slick, joyous music at that. "Making a mountain out of a molehill" is certainly lent a positive spin when considered in light of "starting from nothing", i.e. music career-making; Everything Everything did just that in the mid 2010s when they charmed their burgeoning audience with their sophisti-synth prowess, and this is a sophistication that can only be continually reinforced hereon. For their latest concept album Mountainhead, all of society is imagined as working towards the creation of a manmade mountain; at the top is rumoured to be a huge mirror that reflects endlessly recurring images of the self, and at the bottom of the pit is a giant golden snake; the primal fear of all believers. Everything Everything make joyous work of the dreaded maxim, "the taller the mountain, the deeper the hole", delivering glitzing, falsetto'ing gems in the form of 'Cold Reactor' and 'R U Happy?', both of which transcend their initial synthpop reveries to become more than their constituent sum.

Review: Suicide are generally referenced in terms of their earth-shattering late 70s debut, but of course Martin Rev and Alan Vega did work together after that. A Way Of Life was their third album, released in 1988 when the world around them had changed so much from when they started out, and yet their sound was still devastating and imposing amidst the culture of bands they'd influenced. Recorded with The Cars' frontman Rip Ocasek, the resulting nine industrial pop songs are as brilliant as anything from their fabled earlier works, and in this special expanded edition we're also treated to a fully remastered version including a clutch of additional tracks including their live cover of Bruce Springsteen's 'Born In The USA'.

Review: Imagine a Dance'o'drome: some dastardly mixture of a David Cronenberg's Videodrome, perhaps, and a giant colourful tube-socked festival ala Electric Daisy Carnival. Whatever inspired French producer and DJ Yuksek to envision such a coinage, we'd like to know. This new full-length project from the artist contains 12 tracks of walloping sunset disco, colourful experiments house and funk, and guest appearances by Breakbot, Queen Rose, Polo & Pan and more. The album is described as "a tribute to the dancefloors of the world" and "a celebration of freedom and joy".

Review: Icelandic trio Sigur Ros havent released a new album in a decade but now, following their signing with BMG, they finally break that run with ATTA, which is their eighth long player overall. The famously progressive, emotive, timeless sounds of the band haven't diminished over the last decade as signified by the first single - the rather epic 10-minute epic 'Blodberg'. The album writing process began in 2019 and was recorded across multiple continents and studios, including the legendary Abbey Road in the UK. The London Contemporary Orchestra feature on one of their most adventurous and accomplished albums in some time.

Review: Icelandic post-rock auteurs Sigur Ros return from a ten year creative silence with the ethereal and warming ATTA. Where 2013's Kveikur proved easily their darkest and most sonically menacing work to date, their decade-long respite has rewarded the trio with crippling reflection. Their first LP since the departure of drummer Orri Pall Dirason, whilst reinstating keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson, who rejoined the band in 2022 following his departure not long after 2012's Valtari; the material here could be the most glacial and ambient they've ever conjured. With artwork featuring a flaming rainbow, vocalist Jonsi elaborates -"Trans and queer and gay rights have been trampled on so much recently. It's scary to see. Around the world also, it feels like we're going backwards." Embracing these woes, and utilising classical motifs to conjure swells of operatic, post-rock gloom, their sonic return is one of both hushed grace and worrying despondency.

It is the first of three releases which will come between tours and form an ever evolving story. Review: Kylie Minogue still remains just about Australia's premier cultural export. She is now up to a rather impressive 16th studio album with Tension, which is her first decent-sized body of new work since the 2020 disco, dance and pop album Disco. This one has a hint of electro-pop to it but it's still rooted in glossy, accessible, happy dance sounds that will be popular at weddings for decades to come. Dutch DJ and producer Oliver Heldens has linked with Kylie for one of the better tunes, '10 Out of 10', which is a mix of 80s, 90s and 00s eurodance.

Review: Alison Goldfrapp has infamously broken away from her involvement with the longtime synth duo Goldfrapp to explore new solo outings. Finally, we hear the extent of her efforts in this arena: The Love Invention, her newest album, is a dazzling dance-centric vision of electropop in technicolour, aiming to put across Goldfrapp's vocal range and stylistic versatility (not least through various collaborations across the dance music spectrum, from Richard X to Claptone and Paul Woolford). Love, lust, desire, amour... just about every variation on the feeling is conveyed on this stonker of an LP.

Review: The latest album from Alice In Chains, and the first to be released in five years (following up 2013's The Devil Put The Dinosaurs Here), Rainier Fog was released in 2018 and now already hears a full reissue via their label BMG. Nominally and in content, the album was inspired by the volcanic Mount Rainier, which overlooks Seattle and looms large like a geo-musical behemoth over the seattle Music scene, from which the band first emerged alongside the likes of Nirvana, Screaming Trees and Soundgarden. A paean to the band's hometown, Rainier Fog lands as a heady mixture of oral history, suspense, together with all the signature hallmarks of AIC's grunge-sludge. It now comes reissued in coloured vinyl 2xLP form.

Review: LP, again on LP. The fourth studio album from L.A.-based singer-songwriter LP, Lost On You is a vertiginous stare into the abysses of vulnerability and loss, lyrically transcribed into album form by the person behind the moniker, Laura Pergolizzi. A sophisti-pop Frankenstein, this reissue of the original 2017 release hears us delve into mind of LP once more, hearing her run the gamut of everything from stylish folk-pop to bluesy electro-pop, and evoking influences from Linda Perry to Chrissie Hynde.

Review: Rapper Mick Jenkins is a much-loved fixture in today's hip-hop landscape, but despite his credo, he shows hardly any signs of complacency. To the contrary; Jenkins says his latest LP The Patience reflects an uptick in thinking about the way he makes music - patiently. In contrast to earlier projects like Elephant In The Room, released in 2021, The Patience, in Jenkins' own words, reflects a newfound he recently found in the process - when he "stopped focusing on a concept and just wrote spontaneously to the beat". In an era where hip-hop increasingly becomes mired in concept, The Patience is a refreshing slice of high-art rap, bringing together upper-echelonic production, advanced flows, and nostalgic moods.

Review: For their second album, Slave To The Grind, rock behemoths Skid Row decided to go with a more harsh and raw sound. They also upped their lyrical game and found fresh new ground that swerved your more typical rock cliches. It paid off and the album that was originally released in 1991 became a classic with fans old and new. The heavy metallers now reissue it in all its original glory on orange and black marbled vinyl which means you can enjoy highlights like 'Livin' On A Chain Gang,' 'Slave To The Grind' and 'Get The Fuck Out' in a sonic quality never experienced before.

While featuring a career-spanning set of the trio's most face-melting rippers from 'Killer' to 'Rosalie' to 'Killed By Death', the set is most notable for the surprise appearance of former guitarist Michael Richard Burston aka Wurzel, who provides his shredding abilities to the epic one-two punch finale of 'Overkill' and 'Ace Of Spades'.

Review: The Virgin Prunes were masters of the uncanny, juxtaposing nightmares with lullabies, beauty with cruelty; combining gentle vocals and the spoken word with anguished wailing from purgatory itself. Their first album, A New Form Of Beauty (1981), powerfully laid out this terrain. Its themes ranged from mournful tales of unrequited love, frustrated sexuality, morbid eroticism and wasted youth, to yearnings for distant dreamlands, all of which were juxtaposed with macabre visions of dystopian societies, overpowered by dark forces and where demons run amok. Guggi's art work for A New Form of Beauty, which intimates a heartless transaction within a domestic setting, is in keeping with this sensibility. Now reissued by BMG, this 2024 deluxe edition features all four parts of the album remastered from the original tape, plus a trifold reverse board sleeve and a 16-page, 11-inch artbook with brand new sleevenotes.

Review: Those smoothest of modern funk operators Chromeo are back with a new album. As the title might imply, Adult Contemporary finds Canada's premier boogie revivalists reflecting on grown-up relationships, with a grown-up sound to match. Don't be mistaken, the duo of Dave 1 and P-Thugg are still absolutely betrothed to the funky blueprint they first came up on 20 years ago, but there's a sense of maturity here which shows Chromeo ageing gracefully. The pop hooks on the likes of 'Personal Effects' are still second to none, and there's even a surprise guest spot from La Roux (remember her?).

Review: The internet has very much kept Rick Astley at the forefront of everyone's mind with its classic Rick-rolled trick. Maybe that's why his music is being remastered and reissued now, or maybe it's because plenty of people still love its guilty pleasures. Hold Me In Your Arms is a notable full-length as it was the Astley album to be produced by British songwriting royalty aka Stock, Aitken and Waterman. It turns 35 years young in 2023 and back when it first arrived it reached the Top 10 in multiple markets including the UK, Canada, Germany, Italy and more.

Review: Heads will know Suicide as the pioneering duo of electronic music and proto-punk from New York City, consisting of vocalist Alan Vega and instrumentalist Martin Rev. Fewer will know anything more beyond the pale of their debut album, though. 'A Way of Life', their third studio album released in 1988 via Wax Trax!, heard them escape the noise - exploring a more hypnotic, minimalistic synthpop sound. That being said, stonkers like 'Surrender', 'Jukebox Baby 96', and 'Dominic Christ' all still captured the doomy New York zeitgeist. This remastered edition contains a full remaster from its original tapes, as well as a brand new, never-heard-before live Bruce Springseen cover no less.
