The 'CIZZLE' is a dual digital 'phase distortion' VCO inspired by the classic Casio 'CZ' series synthesizers. Intellijel's design goal for Sealegs was to create the warmest, most musical and organic delay module possible - something that would sweeten and enhance any audio one chose to feed into it. As such, great care has gone into modelling the most distinctive and desirable sonic characteristics of three different types of delay circuits: Tape; Bucket Brigade, and Crossfading Digital.

A plethora of onboard controls enable you to dial in exactly the sound you want; synced or un-synced delays times (for both left and right channels); a built-in modulator with seven morphing waveshapes, a Wow & Flutter emulation, and an envelope follower; plus dedicated low- and high-pass filters; built-in hiss & crackle noises; per-model colour controls; a spacious reverb; and a re-configurable signal flow through the unit. Mixer section

Each channel has the following:

Stereo or mono - Each channel can be treated as a stereo channel or a mono channel with two summed inputs.

CV inputs for both panning and level control

Two send buses - You can route each channel to one of two send buses. Each send bus is stereo. You can choose if you want the send to come before or after the level/panning controls.

Mute - The mute has both latching mute (up) and a momentary mute (down). The mute uses a capacitor to slow the turn off and on of the mute action. So it is mostly click-less, but you may find an occasional pop.

Cue bus - You can route each channel to the cue bus.

Mains Section

Two stereo sends outputs
Two stereo returns - which can also be used to directly insert into the main mix.
Main stereo outputs - level controlled with the slider and stereo VU meter.
Main mono output - summed output of the main L&R. If you are after an 8ch mono mix, you can use each channel in stereo mode, use the level control to control the level and then pan control to control the levels of the two channels.

Cue Section

1/4" Headphone jack along with level control
Fader control to listen to the main mix, cue mix, or an adjustable mix of the two.
Expandable

Bartenders can be cascaded to create 8ch, 12ch, or 16ch mixer. The main level is what is sent the main level control can act as a group control.

Barbacks can be added to add 2ch to your mix. Barbacks can also be cascaded enabling up to a 16ch mixer configuration.

Send-VCA can be added for CV control of the level of the send.

DVCA, Cast Iron, Mingles, and USB-2CH can all be connected with Dupont cables (aka female to female breadboard cables) via pin headers on the back of the modules. Connecting the in and out pins will send/receive the audio into the next module.

Ostrawa is a full stereo four-channel voltage controlled mixer featuring a stereo mixing bus, one stereo auxiliary send per channel (switchable between pre and post VCA) with stereo returns, clickless muting, individual level meters, and a super-clean and DC-coupled signal path designed with high-quality VCA and opamp chips.

Xaoc Devices have carefully crafted Ostrawa's voltage control response to achieve what we believe to be the optimal user experience found in a Eurorack mixer. The design features an elaborate control circuit that combines the internal voltages generated by the panel potentiometers with external CV over volume and stereo balance. The result is a natural attenuator response that constrains VCA gain to a usable range while minimizing distortion.

Tempete Magnetique is deeply inspired by the classical filters design as well as West Coast synthesis complex oscillators.

At it's core, has 4 multi-mode 12db filters that can be chosen to be routed in series or parallel, which can be used independently or combined and even cross-modulated, controlled by CV or with an integrated envelope follower (which can be used as a dynamic responsive envelope) and even pinged.

The Tempete Magnetique was designed to have several levels of use. The individual level with the use of separate filters, perfect for quadraphonic processing of different sources (A B C D).

The pair sections which allows for more complex stereo effects or to generate synthesis voices (X, Y) and finally, the global level with a cross-modulation of filters.

The independent outputs have been designed to be fed back into their input, turning them into oscillators (not really precise one, but you can make synth voice kind of V/Oct tuned with their very own sound, due to the fully analogical design, these oscillators may have strange behaviours sometimes, but this instability will bring you the warmth of analogue gears).

The pairs sections, of course, can filter an incoming signal, but can be transformed to full synthesis voice, percussion engine (exited by the ping input and modulated with the envelope follower) and way more.

This filter allows for anything from gentle, subtle filtering to a storm where the undulations of your sound and their intensity create new types of textures.

OSC2 - Yellow. Follows 1 rhythmically as a carrier.
OSC3 - Red. Strictly related to OSC2 but can set-aside 1 as a modulator2.
OSC4 - Orange. Act as a shutter to filter or interrupt the whole communication.
RM - oscillators power starve input.

Outputs:

TR - a rectified always positive 0-7v CV source3.
NM - the main audio signal straight out of the oscillators.

Notes: Alia is a 10HP oscillator platform much like the Versio and Legio platforms. Launched in 2023 with a reboot of the beloved Basimilus Iteritas and Manis Iteritas, along with a new oscillator, Debel Iteritas, Noise Engineering is back with three more firmwares for the platform.

Separate hardware is available for each module, and a customer with any Alia module can try any firmware for free by going to the Noise Engineering Customer Portal and connecting with the included USB cable.

Cursus Iteritas Alia

Dynamically generated wavetable oscillator using orthogonal functions on a swappable oscillator platform

Cursus Iteritas Alia is Noise Engineering's take on a wavetable-inspired additive oscillator. Cursus creates sounds from a dynamically generated wavetable, then gives the user spectral controls to sculpt and modulate. Cursus has three different algorithms, based on different conceptualizations of frequency: Fourier, which uses sine waves; Daubechies, using wavelets; and Walsh mode, using the Walsh transform. All that math is hidden behind a set of friendly controls that produces an extremely wide variety of harmonic sounds, perfect for melodic sound design. Cursus has long been regarded as the gentlest Iteritas, but if you need some beef and extra low end, try mixing the suboscillator output into your patch.

CIA is available on Noise Engineering's 10HP Alia oscillator platform. Buy an Alia module and use the included USB cable to connect to the Noise Engineering Customer Portal and check out any other Alia firmware, free of charge, any time.

A machine is born

The Machine began as a quest to create a rich-sounding eurorack snare drum synthesis module to complement the existing Mutant Drums. The project quickly became too large and costly to justify the module being capable only of snare drum sounds. So, the decision was made to learn from the architecture of the TR-909's snare and kick circuits, in order to develop a module capable of generating multiple forms of analogue percussion, and various other effects.

Like the other Mutant Drums, the Machine has its roots in classic analogue percussion synthesis. Even though it can create totally alien sounds, it still has the capability to deliver those classic 909 house snares and kicks if you want them. There are no microcontrollers in the Machine. The signals and waveforms are all generated by discrete components and ICs, for a distinctly analogue sound, and user experience.

It is one of the essential Serge modules. The GTO is an offspring of the famous Serge SSG.

The Smooth section will place a positive and negative slew on input voltage transitions for lag effects, voltage controlled portamento and for low frequency filter applications. In Cycle-mode (cycle jack patched to the input), the Smooth side “will oscillate yielding a voltage controlled triangle wave LFO. A high level into the HOLD input will enable the Smooth Function to be used as a track-and-hold circuit with voltage controlled slew rate.

The Stepped function can be used as a sample-and-hold with voltage controlled slew rate limiting. In Cycle mode, a pulse applied to the Sample input will generate complex staircase waveforms for control voltage applications and for use as audio signals.

Each side has a temperature-compensated 1V/Oct input for use as an oscillator with a frequency range of up to 20kHz (left) and 8kHz (right). Each side tracks over 5 or 6 octaves.

The Coupler is an internal comparator which compares the output levels of the Smooth and the Stepped Generators. This output is useful for generating complex control voltages or random voltages.

Fully redesigned from the original Cosmix, the Cosmix Pro is an eight-channel mixer intended to work nicely for performance as well as production. Suitable for line-level stereo signals as well as Eurorack levels.

A completely new design, with a lot of attention to sound quality, with a clean, low noise signal path, and lots of headroom.

It features the same amount of channels as the previous Cosmix, 4x mono in, and 2x stereo in.

There's one mono aux bus, and an additional true stereo AUX for all channels, with a dedicated mono and stereo return.

Each channel has a pan pot, a big push button for clickless muting, and a dedicated LED level meter to visualize channel output level.

The mono channels come with a handy low cut switch. (-3dB @80Hz / -6dB @ 45Hz)

The stereo channels have an optional +18dB gain, allowing you to easily mix in line level external gear.

The two stereo channels also have a CV input for voltage controlled panning.

There are connectors on the back for daisy chaining, or for connecting to future expanders/other mixer units.

The older model Cosmix is discontinued until further notice, since the parts for the drive circuit are unobtainium.

That's also the reason there is no dedicated drive circuitry in the new model.

The Dual Looping Delay (DLD), designed by 4ms and Gary Hall, is an advanced audio processor for creative synthesis. Not a tape or analog emulation but a modern crystal-clear digital delay, the DLD combines features of delay, looping, and sample-tight synchronization for powerful and dynamic sound capture and modification. The DLD is designed to integrate seamlessly with modular timebase and sequencing devices such as the 4ms Quad Clock Distributor (QCD), etc.

What is a "Looping Delay"?
Modern looping devices grew directly from hardware digital delays of the late 70s and early 80s. A looping delay, modelled on units such as the classic Lexicon PCM42, has the very long storage times associated with dedicated looping, but without triggered record and playback functions.
By default, a looping delay records and plays continuously, though recording can be suspended at any time with Infinite Repeat. Sustain of delays and loops is mainly accomplished with regeneration, allowing an organic, evolving approach to sound creation as new material replaces old, more or less gradually. The 4ms Dual Looping Delay also provides advanced clock input and output facilities that allow for locking delayed and looped material with sequencers and rhythmic devices.

New features in firmware version 5:

Noise Engineering received tons of requests for NE filters over the years, and Roucha Legio is their first dedicated release. The filter features lowpass, bandpass, and highpass settings and tracks frequency via the dedicated encoder and extremely accurate 1v/8va CV input. Roucha Legio's CV-controlled resonance parameter can go from clean to acidy-squelchy for bassline joy. Add CV for filter sweeps that will knock your socks off. Of course, because it's a Noise Engineering module, there's a Fold knob. Add wavefolding to the signal chain before, after, or both before and after the filter.

Noise Engineering have made it easy to carry out dramatic buildups and cuts with Roucha Legio. Just tap the encoder to bypass; tap again to turn the filter on again. Want to automate it? Send a gate into the Bypass input. The filter will remain bypassed as long as a high gate is present.

Roucha Legio is also a DSP and oscillator platform: users can change the firmware on any Legio module, 100% free, to any other firmware in the Legio series.

A kick drum lays down the foundation of your track, the root of your beat. You need the low end to create a pumping motion and the high end to cut through the mix. All this while maintaining spectral room for other sounds. So it can be quite an undertaking to get right.

Which is why Malstrom have developed Mandrake. A kick drum synthesizer that targets kick drum sounds for Dance, House and Techno music. Inspired by physical models, DAW drum synthesis and sound mixing techniques. It divides the sound into a "Hit" and "Body", with sound shaping possibilities for both sections.

Mandrake's "Hit" is a resonating filter which is saturated to have a square-like shape. It generates a short pulse that can be tuned and attenuated. Which results in a short click that will cut through the mix when and where you need it.

Mandrake's "Body" is made up from another resonating filter. Its wave is slightly saturated and filtered to resemble the harmonics of a drum. More saturation can be added in the form of uneven harmonics to create harsher tones. The result is then sent to a damping circuit that is used to tame the sound. Finally the body can resonate which leads to more liquid sounding drums, or specific frequency boosts. All of the body's parameters are connected which makes it super fun and playable!

A few more functions allow Mandrake to be adaptable to different situations. Two shapes with different harmonic content and volume decay shape. An envelope output to provide a normal or ducking envelope to further sculpt your sound, or to side chain other sounds. An accent or volume CV input to provide two volume control options. And a clean-up switch which adds a high-pass at 25Hz to remove the rumble, a spectral dip at 300Hz to make the kick sound less "boxy".

Mandrake is not another 808 or 909 clone; its analogue circuitry is entirely built from scratch to create an original sound. Also nothing more than a great kick; ranges to get into detail, and useful kick drum sounds throughout its settings!

Orobas is a dual tube amplifier that is composed of two identical units.

Each channel has two audio inputs with dedicated gain controls and one output volume control.
Thanks to clever routing, a wide variety of sounds can be created. The two channels can be connected in parallel or in series (Parallel / Series). In series connection, the output of channel 1 is still active, good for parallel signals (note: each channel output is phase-inverted in relation to the opposite input). This way, feedback can be generated by feeding back the signal from output 1 to e.g. a control voltage input.

The screen control voltage input determines the gain and the sound characteristics. Additionally, the input is normalized to INPUT 1 of the respective channel.

The Suppress control voltage input is normalized to the input signal if nothing is connected. The purpose of this input is to direct electrons reflected from the anode back to the anode. Turning the knob to the positive does not change as much, turning it to the negative slightly attenuates overtones. With a positive control voltage the change is minimal, but with a negative control voltage you can realize e.g. ducking effects and effectively switch off the tube. Audio Rate Modulation is also possible here and a bit milder than with the Screen CV, but still effective.

The evocation potentiometer controls the feedback of the second output into the first channel. The sonic performance is very much dependent on the Plate Bias switch. The Plate Bias switch effectively controls the headroom. This allows you to use the tubes in three different settings, from fuzz sound to full distortion.

All through the project of developing this module, created all those circuits one by one, which are an absolute necessity to create a sound. The purpose was to fit them all into one module. That's how this composite and compact module was born, and got named MODULATION TOOLS.

All the parts of this module have their own in- and output, but it also has several internal connections as well. These connections can be disconnected too, you just have to plug a cable into an input. So all the parts of this module are capable of working altogether or separately as well.

How is this possible? Let's see!

The NOISE GENERATOR output connects to the SAMPLE & HOLD input. The SAMPLE & HOLD output connects into the GLIDE. The SYNC LFO triggers the SAMPLE & HOLD, so we get a synchable random generator.

Using a switch you can select the waveform you wish to have on the input of the VCA & INVERTER. In addition, the VCA & INVERTER has its own level control potentiometer, own CV input, also has normal and inverse output as well.

The SYNC LFO is capable of working in two different modes. Using the NORMAL mode the frequency can be controlled by the RATE potentiometer between 0,05Hz and 50Hz. In MATH mode the Rate potentiometer works as a divider, so the incoming sync pulse, or TAP can be divided or multiplied too. x1,5; x2; x3; x4; /1,5; /2; /3; /4

Besides all of these features, the SYNC LFO has SYNC, RESET and CV inputs too, also has individual SQUARE and TRIANGLE outputs. You can adjust the CV input level, and select if you want it to affect either the RATE or the SHAPE. Using the SHAPE potentiometer, you can set the pulse width of the square wave, also the triangle wave can be adjusted either to saw and ramp form as well.

With the CV input selected on RATE in MATH mode, you can switch between the DIVIDER settings from the keyboard of your synthesizer or sequencer. It gives you the possibility of changing or modifying the beats of the LFO, to the rhythm of your music. This gives you very exciting possibilities to compose rhythmic modulation.

Each control output can be parameterized individually.

The AS MIDI/CV Interface is a flexible controller module, which contains 4 analogue CV output, and 8 digital output. It can be connected by USB directly to the DAW, or to any other instrument/controller via MIDI. In the case of USB MIDI, it can operate as a MIDI interface, so it passes on the MIDI command coming from USB, to the MIDI OUT.

For setting parameters, there are 6 navigation knobs, and a 2 x 16 character LCD. The equipment can save 8 different program settings.

For the ergonomic shape the MIDI, and the USB connectors are not placed on the front, but instead they have an individual module, or can be fixed on the back of the synthesizer.

All the analogue CV outputs are equipped with a 16 bit high speed DAC, and a precision OpAmp. These CV outputs independently can be NOTE, VELOCITY, AFTERTOUCH, PITCH BEND, or CONTROLLER outputs. The polarity of all the outputs can be adjusted, so this way in case of the NOTE setting the pitch control key can be reversed for example. Out of the four CV outputs on the #3 and #4 you can choose 0V / 10V, or -5V / +5V voltage interval. For example at a PITCH BEND it is a required parametrization.

Digital outputs can be GATE, TRIG outputs, or SYNC, RESET, START / STOP outputs separately, on any MIDI channel. GATE can react on pressing or on releasing (S-TRIG) of the key. The TRIG can react on pressing, on releasing of the keys, or even both.

The SYNC mode can be the standard PPQN SYNC for drum machines for example, but it has a DIVIDER as well, to choose the measure. All this from 1/1 to 1/32, even by triola and dotted beat too.

Tiptop Audio's Z-DSP is a cartridge-based open source digital sound processing and effects generating platform for your modular synthesizer. Lush audio processing, greater stereo depth and a unique set of digital synthesis is what the Z-DSP is all about.

The Z-DSP has a stereo digital sound processor with 24-bit sampling, 15kHz of bandwidth, voltage-controlled parameters of stereo feedback, program switching, DSP parameters, equal power crossfading dry/wet mixing, as well as sequential program control switching and a clear display - all in Eurorack format. A dedicated clocking input for the DSP chip does wonders to passing sound by bending the algorithms in an unexpected way, a hardware technique computer plugins can't do and is unique to the Z-DSP.

In a recent update, the Z-DSP (NS) got an all new design of its analogue circuitry, contributing to a lower noise signal path, clearer sound of the entire frequency range, lower distortion and better immunity to noise emitted by other modules sharing the same power supply. A new analogue dry/wet circuit has been implemented to remove the 3db gain drop when the mix knob passes through the centre of the dial making the use of this function more practical in a live application. A reverse polarity protection has been added as well. The new front-panel matches Tiptop's colourful design, and a single printed circuit board and surface mount technology improve reliability during production and use. The powerful Z-DSP engine remains the same as the original Z-DSP module and all cards are compatible across both versions.

Based loosely on the Buchla 100 series Gates, each channel boasts a discrete VCA with a rich overdrive sound, stereo panning, a tilt EQ and an easily accessible mute switch. There are four channels, each with four dedicated outputs, separated into groups of four. 4X4X4. Input a signal into any channel and use that channel's outputs to spread the input signal throughout your rig. With outputs spread out in this manner, it inspires creative modulation and patching.

Channel 1's input is normalled into Channel 2's input for use as a 1x8 mult. Likewise, Channel 3's input is normalled into Channel 4's input for use as a 1x8 mult. When nothing is patched into Channels 1 and 3,+5V is fed into each input for use as an offset throughout their respective channels with a peak to peak voltage of -5V to +5V available at each output.

Each output has attenuator/attenuverter potentiometer control. Center position is off - no signal at the output. These outputs are buffered so that with one input you can have four separate and different variations of the input signal at each of its corresponding outputs.

See-thru colour coded LED indicators denote which channel an output belongs to for easy maneuvering during live performance and in dimly lit situations, and there are also numbered dots below each potentiometer that denote that as well.

The Zorx 1U CV Bus uses +12V 90 mA and -12V 90mA, and doesn't need a +5V rail to operate. It has a depth of 27mm. The faceplate is black matte with copper.

The 20 HP Zorx SILENCER 1U CV BUS Expander is also available to buddy up with the 1U CV Bus.

The Zorx 1U SILENCER is a clickless 20 HP 4 channel performance silencing module that lets you manually switch each channel on and off, thereby muting it, with latching or momentarily capabilities. There is also a MIX OUT that sums all of the SILENCER's outputs into a single mono output. A connector cable [included] can be connected from the rear of the Zorx 1U CV Bus to the rear of the SILENCER which will take the last four outputs of the Zorx 1U CV Bus and duplicate them, normalling them to the corresponding inputs of the SILENCER. This normalization can be overridden by patching an input into each channel so that the SILENCER can act on its own or in tandem with the Zorx 1U CV Bus, or a combination of the two. Illuminated numbered dots correspond to the 4 channels of the 1U CV Bus for easy recognition.

The SILENCER can be used as a 4-channel on/off/(on) performance switch, a 4-channel audio or CV mixer, or a combination of the two while having control of which channels you want in the final mix.

The SILENCER consumes +12V 40mA and -12V 40mA and has a depth of 40mm.

With a 3rd generation technology, the ConVertor E1 is capable of detecting the pitch of the audio and synthesize a choice of four waveforms (presets) as well as extracting the pitch CV, envelope CV, and gate CV signals as accurately as possible today. Built for efficiency and stability. The intuitive interface makes controlling its plentiful functions easy. Functions that would have taken additional 7-12 external modules are now offered at a touch of a button. It offers saved/recalled from presets for a "plug and play" live performance/during expensive studio sessions where time is of the essence. An expansion MIDVerotr E1 can add MIDI output sustain pedal input, arpeggiator to MIDI and back to ConVertors, centralized control for groups of ConVertors and more all via a high-speed, bi-directional 4-pin header connection called the "Sonicsmith bus".

The ConVertor E1's preamp audio input can receive a balanced/unbalanced audio signal at line level, instrument level, or dynamic microphones with a clean preamp featuring a unique auto-gain of +50db range to accommodate all types of audio sources. Pitch tracking evolved to become so accurate that no filter is needed, no matter the source material or its frequency range. The ENV now has a compressor and attenuator/attenuverter. There are also separate ENV CV compressor/expanders and attenuverter/attenuater to each internal CV destination like the VCA and CV out. The FM input also has its own quantizer, and attenuverter. 6 Character LED meter reflects the input level of the audio input or menu choices periodically. VCO mode will separate the preamp from the oscillator leaving it completely independent while still providing the ENV CV out. In VCO mode the oscillator will be controlled only from incoming 1V/oct CV input.

The P-SHIFT knob is an inf. an encoder that shifts the relative pitch of the internal oscillator and the pitch CV output within a 5-octave range in semi-tones. The FM CV input can accept external CV sources to shift the pitch of the oscillator as well but can do so continuously or quantized to musical scales. With internal VCA, VCF, quantizer, attenuverters, LFO's, routing, and different modes of operation, the ConVertor E1 offers presets to keep the show going smoothly.

Notes: The Cascading Register from Omiindustriies is a source of pseudo-random voltages and gates using a shift register-based architecture. It takes inspiration from digital shift registers, runglers, linear feedback shift registers (LFSRs), and analog shift registers. The module features an eight-bit shift register and voltage-controlled clock; broken into four main function blocks: clocking, data, CV, and gates.

The shift register includes eight gate outputs and three variable CV outputs derived from the state of those gates. CV 1 is determined by OO, O1, O2, and O3. While O2, O3, O4, and O5 correspond to CV 2 and O4, O5, O6, and O7 make up CV3. This grouping of stages creates three copies of the same data shifted by two clock pulses. Each CV output includes variable control over the amplitude. CV1 and CV2 include attenuverters and CV3 uses an attenuator. The eight pseudo-random gate outputs work great as both timing and modulation sources, particularly when used with percussive modules.

Data comes from the data gate input, manual seed button, and three feedback taps from the shift register itself; with each part of the data stream XOR'd with the other parts. While the module includes a voltage-controlled clock normalized into the clock input, it accepts a wide range of external clock sources, from sub-audio to audio, all the way to video rate signals. The module includes normalization from CV3 to the CV input on the clock oscillator, creating a self-influencing feedback configuration without the need for any patch cables. When using an external clock signal, the internal clock works great as a data source by patching from the clock output to the data input.

Explore the sonic space of phase cancellation! Phase cancellation shapes the characteristics of all acoustic instruments. It forms the basis of chorus and phaser effects. It gives vibrancy to detuned oscillators. The vibrant sound of pulse width modulation or the roaring sound of animated supersaws are a small part of a much larger sonic space that the Triphase Oscillator is built to discover.

The Triphase Oscillator produces three different sawtooth waves at the exact same pitch but with independent phase control. These are blended in a bipolar CP3-type mixer, giving a rich waveform at the output. By blending in a wave with a positive polarity, you reinforce in-phase harmonics; by blending a wave with a negative polarity, you reduce in-phase harmonics. The phase differences between the waves distribute the harmonics from in-phase to out-of-phase. The result is a comb-filter effect, like the effect produced by an acoustic reflection, with notches and peaks spaced evenly throughout the frequency range. Conventional pulse width modulation can be obtained by blending two sawtooth waves with equal but opposite polarity. Supersaw-like behavior can be obtained by using phase CV with the same polarity for all three waves. But many other interesting spaces can be reached. For example, by setting the phases correctly you can cancel out the first harmonic and get a saw an octave higher, or cancel both the first and the second harmonic, giving you a saw an octave and a fifth above the fundamental frequency. Modulation then brings back these canceled harmonics.

The Triphase Oscillator is completely analog, built around a sawtooth core that is functionally stable and accurate but sonically alive. It has linear FM on all three waves, and an excellent hard sync that can create shredding harmonic sweeps. The CP3 type mixer gives good distortion at higher levels, allowing you to blend three 5-volt-peak waves without worrying about headroom. All CV functions at audio rate. With an LFO driving the phases, it can easily replace the classic analog three oscillator setup, and in this configuration it's one of the fattest things you have ever heard. But the Triphase oscillator is much more than a thickener, and can just as easily produce thin reedy sounds or subtly shifting harmonic drones.

Notes: The Dannysound Dynamics is a compressor / expander originally designed to process drums but, like most processing devices, it can be used for a wide variety of applications.

The module comprises of:

The compressor / expander section uses a discrete transistor-based circuit that allows for soft clipping when overdriven.

The envelope detector is known as a feedforward type of circuit; taking its input from the signal before it goes to the compressor rather than after. This type of circuit is known for having fast attack times.

The Sub Bass enhancer has its own compression circuit that "ducks" the initial transient. This allows the sub bass to be increased without distortion on the transient peaks, increasing the overall level.

There is a MIX control to allow the unprocessed signal to be mixed back in with the processed signal.

The 3 band EQ is an inductor based LCR design. After Dannysound tryed out various EQ topologies, this was the design that sounded the nicest. When overdriven it gives a nice "bite" to the sound, and it has a certain characterful charm that's hard to put into words. The controls have a response that are subtle to begin with and get more pronounced as the controls are increased.

The Harmonic Exciter adds a little distortion to the high frequencies, which bring out the sparkle of cymbals or the snap snare drums. The operating bandwidth can be switched between Low (snare drum snap) or High (Cymbals sparkle).

There are inputs for side chaining and control with an external envelope as well as an envelope out to make the envelope detector output available to drive other modules.

It also features separate inputs and outputs for the Compressor / Expander and EQ sections, so they could be used as 2 separate modules.

Designed specifically for dance music, the Mandrake is Malstrom's solution to all your kick drum needs. Versatile, expressive and punchy as hell, this analogue module delivers pure dance floor power.

Supplier's Notes:
A kick drum lays down the foundation of your track, the root of your beat. You need the low end to create a pumping motion and the high end to cut through the mix. All this while maintaining spectral room for other sounds. So it can be quite an undertaking to get right.

Which is why Malstrom have developed Mandrake. A kick drum synthesizer that targets kick drum sounds for Dance, House and Techno music. Inspired by physical models, DAW drum synthesis and sound mixing techniques. It divides the sound into a "Hit" and "Body", with sound shaping possibilities for both sections.

Mandrake's "Hit" is a resonating filter which is saturated to have a square-like shape. It generates a short pulse that can be tuned and attenuated. Which results in a short click that will cut through the mix when and where you need it.

Mandrake's "Body" is made up from another resonating filter. Its wave is slightly saturated and filtered to resemble the harmonics of a drum. More saturation can be added in the form of uneven harmonics to create harsher tones. The result is then sent to a damping circuit that is used to tame the sound. Finally the body can resonate which leads to more liquid sounding drums, or specific frequency boosts. All of the body's parameters are connected which makes it super fun and playable!

A few more functions allow Mandrake to be adaptable to different situations. Two shapes with different harmonic content and volume decay shape. An envelope output to provide a normal or ducking envelope to further sculpt your sound, or to side chain other sounds. An accent or volume CV input to provide two volume control options. And a clean-up switch which adds a high-pass at 25Hz to remove the rumble, a spectral dip at 300Hz to make the kick sound less "boxy".

Mandrake is not another 808 or 909 clone; its analogue circuitry is entirely built from scratch to create an original sound. Also nothing more than a great kick; ranges to get into detail, and useful kick drum sounds throughout its settings!

The Shaped Dual EnvVCA is a two-channel analogue envelope generator with waveshapers and a stereo linear VCA.
