Review: Monsieur Dimitri from Paris works his magic on Casbah 73's organic disco grooves with a remix treatment that surpasses all expectations. Casbah's original track may sound like a band-recorded take with added production sheen, but it's actually a deceptively well-made track recorded by a talented solo artist. Dimitri brings added wompy disco-house heat to the track in two parts, with the first part focusing on the more bangerific elements of the original, and the B (part two) stripping things back to focus on the more minimal, solo dubby parts.

It has a cliched title but the music excuses that - it's pure timeless joy, with feel good vocals, big shiny strings and a knotted, funky bassline that cannot fail but ignore the floor. The musicianship is second to none on the extended disco mix and that areas on through all versions. There's the big full take, the more paired back club dub and a cappella, and all are dynamite.

Here it gets another new lease of life as part of Unidisc's 40th anniversary celebrations, with disco remix maestro Dimitri From Paris at the controls. The Frenchman delivers two tasteful, club-ready tweaks: an 'Extended Remix' that wisely utilises all of the familiar elements of Bohannon's original, while subtly beefing up the beats and adding a few drops and breakdowns, and an even longer, more dubbed-out 'Super Disco Blend' revision. While that was a wholehearted disco workout, this speedy sequel sees the band (and their high-profile collaborator) explore their West Coast jazz-funk influences via an inspired workout full to bursting with killer instrumental solos, dusty grooves, memorable motifs and a genuinely killer, cowbell-sporting percussion brerak. This time round, there are no Dimitri From Paris remixes; instead, dubbed-out disco favourites the Idjut Boys are on hand to smother the track in tape echo and dub delay. The result is a typically spaced-out, low-slung affair that naturally makes the most of the band's killer bassline and layered percussion sounds.

Review: Iconic French producer Dimitri From Paris takes a break from his international globe trotting endeavours for Hand Of God to introduce Erodiscoteque - a new endeavour with DJ Rocca which marks Dimitri's first excursion for Gomma! "I Love New York" is naturally the duo's paean to everyone's favourite city, specifically the late 80's, early 90s era of freestyle and raw house. The title track is undeniably of this era, with a heavy midtempo MPC beat augmented by plenty of horn vibes and late nite piano stabs - watch out for that breakdown! "Beatdown" brings the electro boogie heat, all squelchy bass, post disco key squiggles and choppy beats. The real gem is reserved for the B Side with Italo disco deity Fred Ventura enlisted to add some vintage vocals to the electro synth odyssey that is "I Need A Reason" which is dipped in an authentic 80s quality that few these days can match.

As a result, this box set of essential rubs from the legendary French producer is a genuine treat. Lavishly packaged and presented in a printed tote bag, the set whips through classic rearrangements of storming peak-time disco cuts from Odyssey, Dan Hartman, Phyllis Hyman and Keni Burke, before delivering dedicated 12s featuring multiple revisions of cuts by Ashford & Simpson, Jamiroquai and Chaka Khan. As you'd expect, there are many must-check tweaks to be found on the latter plates, including a slow-burn instrumental take on Ashford & Simpson's 'Stay Free', a wonderfully spacey 'Dubwize' rework of Jamiroquai's 'Cosmic Girl' and a sing-along-friendly version of Chaka Khan's stunning 'Clouds'.

Review: In general, we'd say it was unwise to tamper with Chic & Sister Sledge back catalogue, especially such stone cold classics as "Thinking of You" and "Le Freak". That said Dimitri From Paris has a brilliant track record when it comes to breathing new life into familiar favourites and there's no doubt that he's hit the mark once again here. On the A-side, the veteran Frenchman stretches out "Thinking of You", subtly extending it using the multi-track parts, first for a sing-along, end-of-night vocal version and then a tasty instrumental take. On the flip, he tries the same with "Le Freak", brilliantly building up the action in layers before unleashing one of the most famous grooves of all time. Guaranteed dancefloor gold.

Review: Blimey! Hell Yeah come through with a 12" from French disco dons Dimitri From Paris and DJ Rocca that features a remix from the genre's originator Tom Moulton! Quite the coup indeed, and it's nice to see Dimitri and Rocca back behind the buttons together as their Erodiscoteque project was severely under-rated! In contrast to so much music that get's lumped in nu disco, it's clear this pair were looking to produce an authentic slab of disco with "Disco Shake" and how they have succeeded! The accompanying mix from Moulton amps up the celebratory vibe of the track with a degree of class you'd expect from the man, whilst there are further remixes on the flip from Luminodisco and Jkriv, with the latter's effort a more contemporary affair that will work as a set bridge to housier material.
