Review: 2nd Archivators records release embraces the charms of nudisco & uplifting deep house. Julian Sanza steps up first with Vincent Inc, delivering a driving chunk of dub-disco/deep house fusion rich in sparkling synthesizer lines, sun-kissed chords and his own rubbery post-punk bass. Nigel Hayes is probably best known for his collaboration with Funk D'Void as Chaser, but as "Jabawaki" demonstrates, his solo work is just as impressive. It sees the UK producer move into sleek, pulsating deep afro latin grooves with modulated delayed space jazzy roads & double bass. DJ EFX aka Raul Recinos one of the most respected deep house producers since 1987. He did best releases for label Strictly Rhythm and worked with producers like Aquatherium, Mateo & Matos, DJ Rasoul, Aural Imbalance and many more. Archivators records proud present his spiritual house track Gravity. Review: David Swatten self released the "South EP" under his Planisphere guise out of Australia back in the year 2000. The 4 track 12" of ultra deep tones and smoky piano musings only found its way into a handful of owner's collections. A few copies resurfaced much later in 2017, with Dave himself selling his last few remaining records via email orders gathered through the online treasure trove that is the We're Going Deep Facebook group. For Those That Knoe promptly got in touch with Dave to talk about a potential project and it can now be revealed. This labour of love has come to fruition in the form of a long player that features three cuts from the "South EP" as well as 8 other rare and exclusive previously unreleased recordings.
Review: The label is delighted to welcome Kris Baha with his first 12" for Especial. After killer remixes of Sfire and Red Axes for the label, his name as an artist, with his darker take on dance music, has risen and risen.
With releases on Bahnsteig 23, CockTail d'Amore and Pinkman, Baha has become a respected artist in just a few years. Building analogue equipped studios in Melbourne and Berlin, DJing, producing and mixing have all led to atonal ear, where success came through dedication.
Following his debut album Palais, Barely Alive acts as release from these years of sweat. A call to all in this modern world, the song exemplifies a move from club music to a freedom in sound and song, as vox crash against 808 and Arp 2600. Remixes start with Timothy J Fairplay a name synonymous with Especial. Here TJF laces his trademark echoplexxed wash for a cold wave mover. Next prodigy Job Sifre builds on his acclaimed debuts with a remodel that goes straight to 'that' basement, mixing his love of electro, new wave and industrial. To close, the legend of Das Ding creates a re-alternate remix, fusing his unique fuzz with Baha's ode for a brittle finale.
Review: Dance music veteran Richard Sen has a 30 year history of DJing and production. The respected global DJ has produced and remixed many well-known artists including Bryan Ferry, John Grant and LCD Soundsystem. From the late 90s to the early 2010s Sen was one half of the dance music duos, Padded Cell and Bronx Dogs. This is the first release on his own label which aims to explore the beauty of the night - dark and light, combining influences from black American dance music and European electronic music.
Review: Lion & Lamb Records emerges from the London-based community of underground electronic heads orbiting the venue of the same name. Considering the quality of the events, you can drop the needle on this various artists joint safe in the knowledge the same high standards apply. The killer new project from Voigtmann, V3000 is up first with the ear-snagging machine funk of "The Man Who Belongs To The Horizon", before Alex Celler drops in some utterly cheeky, wriggling micro house naughtiness to add some spice to the after party. Andre King brings things back to an electro tip for the edgy sci-fi noir of "Floating Sensation" and Unai Trotti restores the balance with some boisterous 4/4 bleep business.
Review: Los Angeles disco producer LUXXURY's Be Good 2 Me 12" kicks off with the title track, a muscular, bass guitar-powered song (as heard in Forza Horizon 4 for XBOX). Evoking that 1979 moment where rock bands like Kiss and The Rolling Stones made their token 'disco song,' the tune was inspired by the melodic punk basslines of The Clash's 'The Magnificent Seven' and Hot Chocolate's 'Every 1's A Winner. "I Need You" (8.5, DJ Magazine) is an honest-to-god love song featuring funked-up bass from Fitz' and the Tantrums' Joe Karnes, while "Feel the Night" (as featured on Hedkandi Beach House, Toolroom's Poolside Ibiza and more) is a rubbery dancefloor destroyer just begging for falsetto sing-along. 'I wanna be EVERYTHING' is an unabashed love letter to 70s dancefloor culture audaciously recalling the sexual hysteria of peak time Studio 54: Loleatta Holloway, Chaka Khan and all four Gibb brothers rolled into one.
Review: Unknown Berlin area label/producer RECYCLED makes an outstanding debut release. Classic soundings, perfect structure and a styling that clearly makes reference on oldschool Techno. The record means busyness from the beginning with the floor heater Industries, followed by the steady firm beats Block. In B Side, Energy is probably the strongest track on the release and Skynet brings some chords and colors, adding class and deepness to this awesome 12".
Review: Politics Of Dancing Records celebrate their 5th anniversary with two various artists vinyls, involving a solid line up of confirmed and promising producers. Here is the second part featuring the talented Chris Stussy, Djoko & T. Jacques, Michael James and Jamahr, all delivering some serious deep house and fine tech house tracks, tailored for demanding dancefloors.
Review: Constant Sound's electro arm, Infiltrate, calls upon the considerable talents and technical heft of London Modular Alliance for a bruising EP of body-popping exploration strapped to a tough n' funky beatdown. "Crack Fox" is as nervy and nimble as the title might suggest, while "Regular Customer" takes things in a hyper-detailed direction compatible with the kind of advanced machine funk you expect from Silicon Scally. "Blinky" follows suit with another artfully woven web of twitchy synth hooks and deftly sequenced drums, and then "Other Worlds" switches things up with some seriously hefty bass pressure pivoting around a dubstep attitude towards space and moodiness.
Review: After the release on Helena Hauff's label Return To Disorder earlier this year, the Hamburg based producer turns to Eye For An Eye to release his awaited EP "Zerstore Eine Stadt". A well crafted piece divided in 5 different moments that portrait the mind state of L.F.T. living in an industrial city with mechanical and optimized routines. Sharing the A side is the punchy and muscular "Alles Was Du Hasst "and "Atomic Enigma", the last an introspective and misterious slow tempo ebm-ish piece. "Zersto?re Eine Stadt" featuring vocals from Rosaceae is an emotive piece expressed through distortion pedals, revealing the poetic side of rage and trauma. "I Don't Like Your Party" plays around a playfully sinister melody and charmingly offbeat vocals that give this track a unique groove. "Dead Rat Under The Table" cools the whole EP down, ending it as intense and mesmerazing as it started.
Review: Ben Sims's Hardgroove imprint hits its 30th release and 20th year of operations with the beginning of a new split EP series entitled 'Toe to Toe', with Vol.1 provided by Mella Dee and Subradeon.
The UK's Mella Dee has developed a strong rep for robust club sounds via his aptly titled Warehouse Music imprint in recent years while the Berlin-based Subradeon duo have been dropping slick Detroit influenced sounds for Motech, Rekids and their own eponymous imprint.
Review: The latest drop on Constant Sound's electro branch, Infiltrate, comes from wild-card Bristolian chameleon Borai. When he's not dropping tuff, jungle-hewed rave wreckers for Hotline and Higher Level he's collaborating with October on refined house bumpers or dread-filled noise excursions in Spiritflesh. As if that wasn't enough, here he is turning his hand to genuinely fresh twists on the electro formula - a breath of fresh air in a crowded marketplace. "Flutta" keeps things snappy and decidedly pacey, but the overall mood is really quite light, while on "Rashaba" things get much darker, to an almost theatrical degree. Some of that breakbeat ruffness sneaks in on "Runnin" and then a little garage swing offsets the dubbed out showers of melody and cheeky rave stabs on EP closer "Narroways". Stunning stuff.
Review: The mightily talented Berlin beatsmith Nick Beringer comes to Constant Black with the kind of rigourous grooves that have found favour with labels like Skylax, MyHouse YourHouse and Raum...musik. Beringer's sound is a perfect fit for Constant Sound's deeper cousin, matching crafty sound design and razor sharp sequencing with that all-important minimal tech house groove. Things get playful and freaky on "Noseblunt" and decidedly uptempo and techy on the club mix of "Turning Point", but throughout Beringer's sharp sense of tension and release, not to mention his ear-snagging sound design, bind these four deadly cuts together as one immensely satisfying package.
Review: The funking, bumping sound of Aesthetic continues to bolster the impact of parent label Constant Sound, bringing a more colourful palette to realm of minimal tech house. The latest Aesthetic release comes from emergent talents Josh Baker & Alfa, working in collaboration to summon up some sprightly grooves to put a spring in your step. "Formulate" is especially bouncy, not least thanks to those nimble synth lines, while "No 800" takes things in a tougher direction without losing that groovy swing and rich sense of melody. "Exteria" completes the set with a particularly funky concoction that heads towards the deeper end of the night.
Review: Franck Collin, a.k.a. Fleck E.S.C, brings some excellent winter-time electro to the London-based label untitled (recs) for their third u(r)blue record.
The French-born, Tokyo-based producer has received praise from the likes of Jensen Interceptor, Dave Clarke, Laurent Garnier, and Helena Hauff.
This record takes cues from several sci-fi soundtracks, and taps into Fleck's wider thoughts on cinema. After having studied film and worked in movie production for several years, he believes that movies need to be a kind of fairy tale usually a poisonous one.
Likewise, u(r)blue003 delivers a capacious blend of texturesiat times delicate and expansive (e.g. 'Shelters', 'Skins & Scales'), at others assertive and grinding (e.g. 'KVFM, 'Roundup'). Together, this strikes a balance between deep club cuts and listening session tracks.
Thanks to the mastering of Aphex Twin-collaborator Beau Thomas, these textures really stand out. Listen loud!
Review: Mark Broom's long-awaited solo EP debut for Hardgroove is upon us and, true to form, for the M-Plant and Beardman producer is a masterclass in groove led, funk-laced techno.
'Outta Sight' opens the EP with purposeful, undulating stabs mirrored by a powerful sub while the second cut, 'L4LV' heads down a dystopian yet crunching, drum-led path to hammer its point home. The title track is Broom at his stripped-back best, with just a handful of elements and deft arrangement doing all the work while track four, 'TR1', serves as a neat, dancefloor wrecking summation of the moods, sounds and production touches of the preceding three cuts.

Review: After releasing a track via Ben Sims' Tribology compilation in 2018 VIL drops his 'Ritmica EP' on the British DJ's legendary Hardgroove imprint this October.
Previous output for Synewave, Analog Solutions and Planet Rhythm have won Lisbon's VIL support from across the techno community and the 'Ritmica EP's propellant cuts continue a strong discography.
Opener '97-1' is an urgent heads down affair that rarely takes a breath, instead relying on the ebb and flow of pads to provide contrast to the undulating bass and punchy rhythm track. 'Field', taken from last year's Tribology comp, is next up and unfolds a little more slowly with creeping breakbeats laying the grit atop a detailed hypnotic groove. On the flip, 'Breaker' and 'Hawav' go for the late-night dance floor assault from the off, the former employing breaks and phased, percussive lead sounds to substantial effect while the latter lets loose with distorted kicks and chewy, arpeggiated bass.
Review: Ferox welcomes the return of Alejandro Lopez's Hoax Believers for his second EP on the label. Following an EP for Spanish imprint Fanzine, Alejandro returns to Ferox with these four tracks of hi-tech funk, fusing Electro with the sound of Detroit via Madrid. Available on 180g vinyl only.
Review: For the second Riddims EP, collating the music of The New Morning, the label highlights further how a group based around the southern Germany Afro-Cosmic scene created a melange of music, a sound, that stepped wide of the house and techno movement then sweeping Europe.
In Global Rhythm Records, friends and producers, DJ Otti and Jay Pee, alongside DJ Thilo and DJ Fred, represented Munich "Westside", running parties and across just 11 self distributed releases, carved their own eclectic niche that were being played by the likes of scene DJs Stefan Egger and Enne.
Slowed afro-percussion, Brazilian flavours, elements of ethno folk, flighty wood instruments, trance overtures, shamanic voices and more are pieced together via heavy sample use in an early hip hop mastermix style.
Again with no track lasting much over 4 minutes, these musical vignettes are perfect tools for the eclectic DJ. Covering uplifting - almost Balearic grooves - to deeper mind-inducing spellbinds and to darker corners of trippy psychedelic invocation, this is The New Morning experience.

More eclectic than cohorts like Tribal Italia out of Cesana or Stefan Eggers' Sound Station Records, The New Morning enwraps world beat music for the eclectic, post-hippie generation. Monotonous beats, deep bass, memorable melodies, sampled in a tribal mystic.
Included here, the previously unreleased Kongo Bina points to a fuller sound, where heavy samples are overridden by analogue machines. As found across the 3 EPs, the collage of sounds, laced with live percussion, make the party.
From the weekly gatherings across north Italy into Austrian and on to Munich, some twenties years pass but the journey from the original Cosmic club to now fits. Time for an "Afro Funky" discovery.
Review: In comes the debut release from Robert James' Body Movement label. Inspired by his party of the same name, Rob takes charge of the label's first EP with three brand new cuts that showcase his deep appreciation of electronic music, plus a remix from underground hero Voigtmann. 'Revenge Of The Wasp' kicks things off, channeling mid-nineties electro techno a la Drexciya, with Rob crafting a mesmerising journey into the cosmos. 'Life Grooves' is a party starter, with its pumping beats and booming bassline progressing into dreamy techno atmospherics. On the flip we have the aptly-titled 'Break Mode' with its insistent break loop supporting soft, swirling pads, solemn bass and a mysterious vocal clip. Lastly, Voigtmann's remix of 'Break Mode' softens the overall feel of the track, cultivating a smoother, more laid back aura.

Review: London based French producer Mondowski follows a spate of recent releases on Relish and Ombra with a new club-orientated vision for London label and clubnight SC&P. Following his remix services on label's debut and 4th releases, Mondowski makes his full lavel debut with an electro inspired turn. Dancefloor orientated lead track Sholay finds a mesmerizing path somewhere between extroverted 80's electro and celebratory spiritual transcendence and gets the remix treatment from Pinkman's Kris Baha who subverts the original by turning the electro backbone up to 11. The EP's B-side, Negative Space, voyages into darker electro territories with Kraftwerkesque synths, rolling pads and a motorik bassline, all of which provides the launchpad for Multiple Man to turn out a pitch black EBM banger.

Review: Warmly welcoming Gacha Bakradze on Horoom, we share the work of a Georgian artist that has gained international recognition in the past years. Opening with "Elevate" the track stays true to its name: elevating melodies guiding through a jungle of beats. In a time where harder is better, Gacha Bakradze elegantly suggests a more minimalistic approach to the sound of electronic music. While "Toulouse" blends darker streams with aquatic hope, "Employee" enjoys a big drop in the middle, just to continue on a more melodic note. Well crafted music through and through, this EP combines the flavours of different genres without bending them.
Review: Cardiology came to light earlier this year with a sure shot from Yann Polewka, and now returns with more upfront disco house delights courtesy of Julio Cruz. Title track "What Is It About U" is a heart-stirring peak time pumper that matches disco romanticism with a forthright rhythm section, while "No One" gets a little more looped up without losing that heavy dose of soul. "Honey" keeps things cyclical and strutting - a perfect edit-heavy workout for the heat of the night. "Be Around" takes things deeper, shedding the disco tones for a more techy flavour that still matches with the upfront mood on the rest of the record.
