Review: Four Flies are dab hands at digging out the finest curios from the hidden depths of Italian music culture, and this is surely one of their proudest proclamations. Guiliano Sorgini recorded the soundtrack to Riccardo Fellini's TV movie Zoo Folle in 1974, and the soundtrack came out the same year. Far more than a set of modest instrumentals or functional library music, this is raging, heavy psych funk of the highest order, with raunchy riffs, bugged-out flute, intense percussive beatdowns and so much more besides. Whichever plucky diggers originally unearthed this holy grail must have lost their tiny minds, because even framed with the significance it deserves, this is an out-of-this world record we're very fortunate to have back in our reach.

Review: Laced Records, who specialise in reissuing the soundtracks of classic videogames, set their sights on the Sega Sound Team behind the OST for 2020 video game Yakuza: Like A Dragon: Hidenori Shoji, Yuri Fukuda, Chihiro Aoki and Saori Yoshida. Just as the game's main protagonist Ichiban Kasuga and his allies run amok in the city of Yokohama, trying to find uncover the conspiracy of their betrayal and imprisonment by a former employer (think Oldboy, but in game form), the soundtrack matches this with a diverse range of styles, from jazz to rock to hip-hop to orchestra, all reflecting the game's disparate, but equally dramatic, playable settings.

Review: It's always fascinating to discover a completely different side to an artist like Gerald Woodruff. Jezz to most, he's best known for his spell with the mighty Black Sabbath, appearing on the Technical Ecstasy album, and performing on both that tour and the dates in support of landmark LP Sabotage. He also recorded with Robert Plant and Phil Collins on the former's debut album, Pictures at Eleven. Review: Don Peake's soundtrack for Wes Craven's : The People Under The Stairs now makes its first ever appearance on vinyl. The classic movie came in 1991 and composer Peake made a perfectly spooky and atmospheric score. Outside of this he was a guitarist and member of the Wrecking Crew who has also played on records by greats such as Marvin Gaye, Everly Brothers and John Lennon. His diverse range of talents really shine through here from the screeching moments on unsettling intensity to the broody passages of mood bulldog via the more serene moments of clam before the storm.

Review: RECOMMENDED
Radio Nova programmer Max Guiget steps out under his well established Blundetto guise for another masterclass in mechanical dub-funk stuff, this time to provide a soundtrack to Canal+'s series VTC. Centred on a night driver for a ride share company, Nora, and her addiction to amphetamines, the show presents the mess that has become her life in all its vivid and uncomfortable details. Debts, divorce, and a bed on the backseat of the car she uses to pick customers up.

Faced with this kind of quietly disturbing realism, and a world that exists predominantly as a nocturnal realm, Guiget's work is steeped in brooding atmospheres, but rather than simply looking to build feelings through long refrains and deep dive ambience, there's often a slow but definite, forward-motion rhythm to what's here, with tracks like 'La Chapelle' an eerie yet groovy case in point.

Review: WRWTFWW Records have got the official rights to reissue Daisaku Kume's iconic soundtrack to Violent Cop, a highly acclaimed 1989 Japanese crime and drama movie that is now available outside of Japan for the first time in its history. The movie marked Takeshi Kitano's directorial debut and is a grotty new-noir staring a rogue detective and sadistic crime syndicate. The soundtrack ranges from smooth jazz melancholy to late 70s fusion and is a superb blend of atmospheric and dramatic genres including elements of ambient-classical, and modern Western atmospherics making it the perfect accompaniment to the lead lonesome urban cowboy character.
