Review: 'Don't Stop' is not only the title of this new EP from Charles D, but so too something of a mantra Drumcode label head Adam Beyer seems to live by. Its output has never really slowed despite 20 odd years of business and still it is up there with the best of the best when it comes to potent main room techno. This latest trio of tricks kick off with 'Don't Stop' which is a hard edged banger with buzzing and serrated synths. 'No Escape' is another raw cacophony of sound with dark vocals lost in the synth storms and 'Choir's Palace' sets down with some slightly trance-like energy that will get hands in the air.

Featuring production work from long term collaborators Richard X and Xenomania, the album’s release was pushed back from its original date in early 2008, now seeing daylight on her new label Smalltown.
There are a number of highlights: Fans of Girls Aloud will appreciate “My Love is Better” – the British popsters lend the backing vocals, while the albums standout track and first single, “I know Ur Girlfriend Hates Me” chugs along with a memorable chorus over an electro bassline.
The end result is an album which is undoubtedly sincere – Annie’s music has definitely evolved since Anniemal. It will be huge anywhere where electro-pop rules, from the bedrooms of teenage girls to the dance floors of the club scene.

Review: Moroder affiliates K.I.D stormed the disco scene in 1980 with their debut long player Don't Stop on New York imprint Sam. This was the second single to come from the album in 1981 and "Don't Stop" has had the Dickens sampled out of it ever since; the big trancy arpeggio still sounding obese and the big chorus funk still wholly infectious 35 years later. Flip for "Do It Again" for a more upbeat disco dynamic.

"Top Secret", meanwhile, is a much deeper affair with a growling bassline that undulates and snarls with real isolation and coldness. Finally "Ship Wreck" finishes on a funkier note as a collection of basslines wrap themselves around the heavily swung rhythm so tightly they almost cut of the blood supply. Dangerous.

Review: California funk troupe Orgone really need no prior introduction and it's great to see the group line up for a release here on the Colemine Records label. Initially released on clear vinyl in limited numbers earlier in 2014 whilst label boss Terry Cole was on tour, Don't Stop has now been pressed in a larger quantity for all the budding funk selectors out there and shows two distinct sides to the Orgone sound. The title track is all about the power house vocal performance from Tiffany Austin and how Orgone "make it easy" for her to ride the groove. Flip over and "Powerfeed" is Orgone laying down a heaving slab of heavy instrumental funk.

Review: A welcome reissue from Disco Modernism, this was originally released in 2012... But with the legendary Fred Ventura on vocals it really does sound like it could've been released in the mid 80s right at the peak of the hugely influential Italo disco period. Veteran Tyrell has nailed the perfect synth groove which pumps the perfect balance; enough electronic dancefloor weight and plenty of pop charm. With bold synth drums, arpeggiated bass and big reverb on Ventura's vocals this is authentic to the very core. For added New Order feel flip for Italoconnection's equally spotless remix. Retrospective perfection; if you didn't catch this the first time round, now is most certainly the time!

Review: Mr Bongo recently reissued the obscure - but also thoroughly brilliant - 1975 debut album by Los Angles soul/rock fusionists Spaceark. Here they continue to mine the band's slim body of work by offering up a new edition of 1976 single "Don't Stop". Available in vocal and instrumental variations, the track is a wonderfully warm and inviting affair, with sweet male and female vocals rising above a grandiose backing track rich in sustained Hammond organ chords, soaring instrumentation, snaking saxophone solos and an unfussy but tight groove. While the vocal version is undeniably great, there's something extra special about the thrusting solos and urgent backing vocals that surge from the speakers during the Instrumental mix.
