Review: Austrian combo Fourward - so-called because there are four members - has been delivering on-point drum & bass since the tail end of the noughties. Expansion is their second album in total, and first since signing to Shogun Audio back in 2014. It's a punchy and thrill-packed affair, moving from he far-sighted electro-jungle of "Beta Alpha Theta Delta", to the bubbly, D&B/hip-hop fusion of Pep hook-up From East, via the woozy "Over" and rip-snorting "Sequencer". Along the way, you'll find fine collaborations with Jake, Mefjus and Rene, as well as the twisted wobble bass assault that is "Dewey". In a word: bombastic.

Review: Having previously worked with SBTRKT, Kanye West, Drake, Jesse Ware and Frank Ocean, amongst others, Sampha is no newcomer. This, though, is the British singer, songwriter and producer's debut album, and it's something of an understated gem. One particularly enthusiastic reviewer called it "an R&B album for the ages"; while that may be pushing it a bit, there's no denying that Process is an impressive collection of tracks. The beats are inventive, the electronics crisp, the samples carefully chosen, and the musical touches pitched just right. At the centre of it all stands Sampha, delivering thoughtful, heartfelt and sometimes poignant lyrics in his wonderfully evocative voice.

Review: British duo Raime are back with the first album since 2012's brilliant Quarter Turns A Living Line and their signature style of dark ambience and haunting imaginary soundtracks which incorporate jungle, dub and post-punk influences into the mix also. The album is said to be largely influenced by their side project Moin which incorporates rock and metal influences too. According to Blackest Ever Black "the DNA of dub-techno, garage/grime and post-hardcore rock music spliced into sleek and predatory new forms." Highlights include the moody subtractive rock of "Dialling In, Falling Out", the dub and post punk crossover of "Dead Heat" and the brooding mood-lighting of "Cold Cain".

Review: It's taken Birmingham-based duo Spectrasoul three years to make the follow-up to their promising debut album, Delay No More, but it seems to have been time well spent. The Mistress is a pleasingly varied set, rooted in their deeper, more melodious take on D&B, but blessed with a range of other influences. "Hot Head, Rock Bed", for example, sounds like vintage James Blake, while "More To Give" - featuring the soulful tones of vocalist Tamara - expertly blends half-step rhythms with luscious modern soul. They even go experimental and gnarly on the frankly quite odd "Kutchi". For all the twists and turns, they've not forgotten their roots, and The Mistress also contains a number of straight-up D&B rollers that should appease DJs and fans alike.

Review: The second album from London's soul-loving, pop-munching, chart-bashing crew Rudimental enjoys a vinyl release. Peppered with big vocal appearances including Bobby Womack, Ella Eyre, Dizzee Rascal and Ed Sheeran, the album ranges from their signature shiny drum & bass to soulful house ("Go Far"), rare groove style funk ("Common Emotion") and all shades in between from sultry and smoochy to out-and-out festival unifiers.

Review: First surfacing on Werkdiscs back in 2010 with the wonderfully strange Sensational collaboration Smashing Your System, Cambridge-based producer Nochexxx finally comes good on the potential shown across a smattering of subsequent 12"s with his debut LP - if you don't count the self released cassette tape Greatest Record issued last year that is! Released on irregular home RAMP, Thrusters finds Nochexxx recollecting "the rich synthesized lexicon of Drexciya and the prismatic glory years of Zomby" as the label puts it. If you've indulged in previous Nochexxx material, you'll love the eleven tracks here which commence in breakneck fashion with "Exholst" and doesn't really relent - there's a touch of vintage Vibert/Rephlex at play here which should be enough for most to investigate further. Largely instrumental, Nochexxx does make space for one vocal cut "Cola Duck" that features Clone Crown Ltd don Zacky Force Funk and sounds like Dam Funk on LSD.

Review: Beautifully presented on heavyweight clear vinyl with widescreen gatefold artwork, Technimatic's debut album is a heartfelt creative document from the off. Previously known as Technicolour and Komatic, since signing to Shogun as Technimatic, the duo has developed a stark liquid signature that's seeped in rich emotion and melody. Desire Paths is the zenith of their creative successes so far and is littered with highlights on every corner. From the swashing jungle breaks of "Beneath The Skies" to the resoundingly dark, twisted "Tectonic" via the slower, jazz-infused "Mucky Jeff", everything about this tingle with energy, passion and playability. Debut albums don't come any better than this.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged, denting and creasing to the outer sleeve particuarly towards the corners, record in excellent condition***

Parisian sound conjurers Turnsteak step up with their debut album Digitale Pourpre. With a sterling reputation for smelting genres and smashing established ideas, their sound is one that resonates with all forms of broken beats, tech and bass music. As a result, the whole album switches and flickers between flavours; the rapid eastern take on new wave with "So Good For Me" the Hudmo-meets-AWE beat frenzy and synth splashes of "Woody Wood" and the sadboi moans and cries of "Wind Up" are just three examples of the duo's dexterity, creativity and, ultimately, musicianship. A very accomplished debut album.

Review: Venetian Snares is nothing if not a pretty out there kinda guy. This record, his 16th at the time of its release (which in itself proves both relentless work rate and unfathomable levels of creative inspiration) was apparently catalysed by a trip to Hungary - hence all track names and the record title are in Hungarian - and a moment in time when the artist imagined himself as a pigeon in the grounds of Budapest's Royal Palace. Take from that what you will.

In terms of musical content, this is Snares, real name Aaron Funk, meeting Planet Mu head on - and if you're familiar with either the label or the artist you should know what that means. A cinematic approach to IDM, drum 'n' bass and experimental electronic music that's half dance floor, half deep concept, and all utterly masterful to say the least.

Maintaining the dot-joining, explorative spirit of the original LP, each remix sheds a whole new perspective. Highlights include Tunisian talent Azu Tiwaline's percussive hypnosis on 'Evidence', the far-away drums and leftfield jungle bumps and bashes of Deena Abdelwahed's take on 'A Thousand Years', LCY's pounding flip of 'Congos' and an all-out squat party-ready demolition session from 3Phaz on 'Coded Language'. Review: Don Zilla has come a long way in a short space of time. Only a few years ago he was teaching himself how to use basic software like FL Studio, dreaming of becoming a venerated musician. His early internet-cafe experiments gave rise to 2019 EP From the Cave to the World and announced the artist's eerie fusion of shifting East-African rhythms with big bass and twisted, industrial electronics. That now continues and evolves through this much anticipated debut album, Ekizikiza Mubwengula, which is a beguiling mix of genres.Always futuristic, often austere, never predictable, this is a true work of sonic invention.

Review: "Shelf life" contains 21 unreleased classic tracks covering d&b, house, broken beat and dub productions (from 1997 to 2005). There aren't many artists that have a veritable vault of back dated and in demand tracks, but Calibre is an exception to the rule. None of the tracks on "Shelf Life" have ever been on CD format before and have only been played by a select few lucky enough to have been given them on plate.

Review: It's been a long time since Jamie XX offered up any solo material, so this new release for Young Turks comes loaded with a certain amount of expectation. His trademark knack for atmospheric melodies and catchy arrangements is intact, with "Girl" stepping out on a slow house template anchored by live bass while snatches of strained vocal meld ring out to form the basis for the track. "Sleep Sound" is equally winsome, if a little more energetic as it moves through filtered breakdowns and skittish diversions as though Theo Parrish were on a rotary mixer in front of the final master.

Review: Scholars of UK bass culture will know just how much of an integral role Horsepower Productions played in the formation of dubstep, teasing darker strains of sub-bass into garage at the turn of the century. Four years on from their last album, dubstep pioneers Horsepower Productions are back with a new LP called Crooks, Crime & Corruption. Issued through the good ship Tempa, Crooks, Crime & Corruption sees Benny Ill and company allow a certain amount of light to shine through but this is still resolutely Horsepower. 2011 tracks "Good Ole Dayz" and "Justify" both feature here in newly reworked format, with Horsepower also seeking out contributions from Berlin producer Orson and vocalist Harry Keyworth.

Review: The steady rise of Joe Cowton has been such that Utility, his long-awaited debut album, is arguably one of the most hotly anticipated techno sets of 2016. Happily, it's a fine set, brilliantly showcasing his instinctive way with booming, stripped-back drum patterns, sparse textures, and alien electronics. While there are forays into more house leaning pastures - see the dreamy, metallic shuffle of "Scido" - and cascading ambience ("Some Cats" and "A Bluish Shadow"), it's naturally the album's more bombastic, club-ready stompers that really stand out. These include two subtle reinventions of early British bleep techno ("Balance" and "Shots Fired") that aptly showcase the London-based producer's Northern roots.

Review: And the Shogun album heat just keeps on coming... Fresh from launching Ed:It's album series, Friction's label flings Document One's debut upside our features. And it's another essential addition to our collections. As an act renowned for covering the spectrum and subverting the styles, the album format is perfect for the Oxford duo as they guide us through the spectrum... Launching with sing-along sunny-side jungle ("Shutdown") and closing with epic Sigma-esque gospel business ("Newborn") they pack every shade and style in between from soothing chime-laced deepness ("Temporal"), introspective soulful steppers ("Fortitude") and absolute grizzlesome grit ("Holy Moly") A highly accomplished debut album.

Review: When it came to following up their surprise 1994 hit album "Amplified Heart", Everything But The Girl's Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn decided to rip up the rulebook and do things differently. Previously, their music has been considered, downtempo and - whisper it quietly - Balearic. 1996's "Walking Wounded" retained their inherent beauty and sense of melancholia, but updated their musical blueprint to include far more influences from (then) contemporary dance music. As this half-speed re-mastered reissue proves, they largely hit the spot, with warm deep house cut "Wrong", the sparkling drum and bass pop of the title track and the similarly minded "Big Deal" standing out.

Review: Lo and behold, it's Phace's third solo album and it's sounding like his best LP to date. Powerfully punchy and high impact as it's compacted into a 30 minute hurricane, each cut is a glitchy zip from trip to trip; the wily vocal drop outs on "Downgrade", the sweary speaker kicking "FMS", the wonderfully whimsical "Lazy Day" and the near cosmic synths, gurgling bass and fizzy slapbass on "Obscure" are just some of the highlights that ping and ricochet you around Phace's multi layered, multi faceted, multi dimensional album. Breath takingly accomplished.

Review: For those not in the know, Vegyn is an artistic alias of Joe Thornalley, a producer who has previously worked with none other than Frank Ocean. "Only Diamonds Cut Diamonds" is his second album and arrives four years on from the release of his inspired debut full-length, "All Bad Things Have Ended - Your Lunch Included". It's a hugely alluring affair, with Thornalley offering up melodious, ear pleasing cuts that variously mix and match smooth 1980s FM synth sounds, crunchy MPC-driven beats, drowsy chords, eccentric electronics, dusty lo-fi noise, whistling, fretless bass, rap vocals and occasional jaunts into mangled electronica territory. It's presented like a beat-maker's mix-tape and that's exactly what it is: the best mixtape of unheard, off-kilter music you'll have heard this year.

Review: Always one to keep us on our toes, NVST follows up last year's Drum In The Bass Of Attention with another wide-armed display of power. From utterly savage, uncompromising breaks ('Filled With Oil') to the more deconstructed, experimental spoken word exploration ('Fourisfourisnoanswer') via funkier, more groove-based cuts ('Slack It Off'), she weaves between worlds with a fizzy balance of unpredictability and joyous danger. Nothing is off the table.

Review: Dylan Brownsword strips things right down to the elements for this exceptional exploration into dub techno influenced drum & bass. Stark futurism that smoulders at its coldest and will have you shivering at its hottest, vibes range from the shimmering Basic Channel style reflections of 'B1' to the more autonomically minded swagger of 'B3'. Trembling with echoes of his powerful techno work in the past, across this whole collection DB1 keeps one foot in the dance, one foot in the stars throughout.

Review: Made over the course of 10 years, Yesterday Is Heavy is the sound of Lil Silva stepping outside of his comfort zone to deliver a much anticipated debut album. Having worked alongside Mark Ronson, Adele and more, the Lil Silva story is now coming full circle with heavyweight guest appearances from the likes of Sampha, Ghetts, Little Dragon and serpentwithfeet, while Benji B was on hand to offer some musical direction. All those extra ingredients are a bonus, but at heart this is Silva's record through and through, and it serves as a perfect declaration of all he has achieved in his glittering career to date.

Review: Portuguese producer and Enchufada label owner Branko is back with his fourth full-length solo album and once again he pushes his own high standards even further. Soma was recorded in Lisbon over a three-day jam session that saw him asking plenty of top local Lisbon-based musicians to improvise over rhythmic frameworks. The resulting man-hours live recording was the blueprint for the album which Brano then worked into the compelling and worldly tunes you have here with vocals from the likes of London, Cape Verde, and Brazil, including Jay Prince, June Freedom, BIAB, and Tuyo.

Review: The Nullpunkt label is fast approaching its 25th release but first comes this fearsome outing from F&E. The third installment in the Forschung & Entwicklung series comes on grey vinyl and does not mess about with five more cuts all served up as Antal or Rural versions from 2016. The first rides on rusty jungle breaks, the second, 'Conclusion', is an atmospheric piece with a minimal rhythm and warped synth daubs while 'Six Days' is a dark and heavy piece of ambient techno dystopia. 'Outro' is the lightest and brightest piece of synth work on the EP then 'Research' brings back the jungle techno with more serrated synths and loopy, jagged rhythms.

Review: Chicago Footwork originator Ja Ru, whose musical history dates back to performances since she was as young as 10, hits home with her debut artist album. 12 tracks that strip back the essence of footwork to its bare bones and elements, we're treated to a true trip to all the senses. Highlights include the dusty jazzy waves and fluttering drum work of "Divine", the off-beat b-boy dizziness of "Break It", the jittering oddities and strange croaks of "No Fuks Given" and the fractured 23rd century funk of "Rapid Fire". Pure mix juice with sights set firmly on the future, Jana Rush has just set a whole new footwork benchmark.
