Review: Following their reunion on Metalheadz earlier this year, the legendary partnership of Digital & Spirit return to their spiritual home Phantom Audio with four mammoth jungle gems... Ageless, uncompromised and galvanised with a certain sense of dark danger, each cut hits hard. "Vision" is the stepper for set with its Dispatch-style bass plucks, "Heaven" is a skippy, subby early 90s homage, "Stage Fright" is all drama and drums (think late 90s Doc Scott) while "Square One" is an amen frenzy laced with ghostly cries and bowel-battering subs. It's like they never stopped producing together.

Review: Blimey! As if Digital's originals aren't heavy enough, here come some absolutely flaming versions. "Waterhouse Dub" gets a savage tonking from Kiljoy that flips the breaks but retains all focus on that iconic riff of the original. US genre-flexers Sight Unseen take "Strictly DnB" to some dark, disturbing places behind those big warm horns while the main man himself takes on his own "Abducted" with a stark stripped back steppy feel that gives the bellowing subs. No one does it like Digital, right down to the remixers he gets on board. Massive.

Review: Now THIS is how you launch a label. Response and Pliskin present Northern Front's first release and it contains three highly respected names across the game. First up is a collab with Deadman's Chest, "Control State" sets the glacial tone and some cold hard truths over a hardcore jam that stinks of 1992 before Digital joins the fray and adds a little cosmic poetry, mystical pads and hurricane breaks on "True Story". Finally, Need For Mirrors glides into the mix and brings a deeper, rolling vibe on "Ruins", a track that gets darker the deeper as we progress. Three blinders, three totally different shades. We can't wait to hear what the Northern Front deliver next.

Review: Soundsystem professor Digital maintains his spotless flow this year with another dynamite 12" on his own Function imprint. "Rejection" should be known to all - a powerful roller that's soundtracked many a Rupture gets a drum rework and added energy from the man himself before we drop into two versions of "Water Bucket". The original is a 140 vibe with classic dub waves and ripples, lush horns, toxic subs and a militant stomp while the drum & bass remix ups the energy with some turbine amens and a drone bass that squeezes your inner ears with insistency. Review: Heaviness klaxon: Digital is unleashing his fifth album right now and it's one of his best bodies of work in his 22 year production history. The tone is set by the currently unavoidable "Motherland". Smashed by the likes of Storm for well over a year now, its vocal charm and beat weight are so well balanced you'll never want the track to finish. Elsewhere Seba applies his own stripped back charm on the mystic "Silver Lining" while Villem taps in for an Aztec odyssey. Ridiculously on-point. And there's more to come.

Review: The Ipswich connection runs deep as Digital returns to Commercial Suicide for two groaning system-shaking sessions with his protege Flava. As you'd expect, it's an inherently underground jungle affair. "The Test" is all about the crashing cymbals, demonic riff and air-raid urgency while "From The East" is enshrouded by big foggy coats of mystic atmospheres and hypnotic chimes. Dank, smouldering and guaranteed to prang your floor right out - save these for the darkest hours of the night.

Review: The fourth and final chapter of Digital's fourth album Synthesis: here we find yet more titanic collaborations with creative compadres far and wide. Nomine and Theory join the Ipswich artist for some straight-up amen-slapping jungle fun, "Primal" sees Digital team up with his longest standing partner in crime Spirit for some sledgehammer dark roll business while "Shadows & Dreams" is a more contemporary jam with an acidic hook and rim shots so sharp they could cut through bone. Finally "On My Head" hurls us back down to reality with a bump as dubby textures and more head-twisting drumwork remind us why Digital is held in such esteem in the first place.

Review: Strictly business right here: Need For Mirrors continues his most prolific year with another straight-up dancefloor jam "Acrobat". Hinting at the legacy of Die or perhaps early 2000s Zinc, there's such a timeless sense of funk to the bassline on this, it could make elderly relatives brock out. And if that's not enough, Digital & Spirit provide an equally shattering cut on the flip: "Cool Vibration" is anything but cool - dense, sweaty and relentless, it's created for soundsystems and built to last. Take that love and double it because this time on the legendary outsider label Ingredients he's taking us through his exceptional range of influences, picking inspiration out of the air and showing off all the exciting things drum & bass can be. "Red Tape"'s mixture of old and new vibrates happily through old dubby grooves, feeling exhilarating and familiar all at the same time. "The Pain" takes on a more experimental purposefulness, collapsing tricky, top-end percussion into deep, resonant bass. Review: In 2012 PRPLX inaugurated Tempo Records, a label that's since released music from sometimes Lenzman collaborator Switch, R&S legend Pete Parsons as Voyager, and DJ Trax who's familiar to Paradox's Outsider label. Now Tempo debut Digital with a three-track dub-tinged 12" of percussive, tribal tipped drum and bass. On the one side "Logged In" is beat down and rolling, while the other is arpeggiated and laced with organic atmospheres. The title-track is where space-echoed vocals and swaths of dub chords glide across a face of bashing drums, while "Fire" is darker in tone and stripped back. Dope jams.

Review: Undiluted dark style business on vinyl-only imprint Horrific... Digital is an ideal candidate for the label. And, as with anything this man has ever put to wax, it's a sure-fire smasher. "Corrupted Soul" is a subby, dubby jungle original with tightly diced breaks and unpredictable bassline gurgles. "Glue Tune" grunts with a "Terminator"-style bass hook that slaps like a sheet metal boxing glove. Nothing short of heavyweight.

Review: If you know Drum & Bass, you know Digital & Spirit need no real introduction, but despite 20 years experience of tearing down club soundsystems and appearances on many of the seminal labels, it's quite strange the pair have never appeared on V Recordings. That anomaly is remedied here in quite rude fashion with Garrison's Law, a fine double drop done in collaboration with rising Mancunian Response. V Recordings describe both "Garrison's Law" and "Different Style" as dancefloor juggernauts, and you'll find it hard to disagree with this statement after spending some time with the previews. Proper junglist vibes aplenty on both for a record the underground selectors will love to play out for some time.

Review: 2014 has had Digital sprayed and stamped all over it... The jungle don has returned and he's done so with serious creativity and muscle. "Damage" is home to a hundred basslines, each one vying for attention over a robust, rusty breakbeat. Watch out when the classic rips and sneers drop mid-way. Carnage. Flip for a slab of modern minimal mastery as Digital reconnects with Spirit and brings dubstepper Nomine into the fold. Review: Jungle don Digital saddles up with newcomer Response once again, this time on Klute's Commercial Suicide imprint. In the past the duo have shown us a much lighter, jazzier side with 'Slip Away', this is a much darker document. "Riot" is a steampunk bulldozer, all pistons and sheet metal utensils while "Unrest" softens the blow with rolling dub techno motifs and techniques. Elsewhere we find Digital going solo... "New Breed" rips the centrefold spread from the Metalheadz playbook with its icy moans, groans and deep sea kicks while "Got Ya" whisks us back 20 years for an objective lesson in proto jungle with rusty amens and atmospheres so thick you need a cutlass to slice through them. Disgusting.

Review: The legendary old school label Fresh 86 stealthily relaunched last year with a clutch of releases from Twwth and Response. Now with the equally renowned and influential operator Digital onside, it's clear F86 are about to go next level. Tearing up the dance on each twist and turn, Digital reminds us how things were done back in the day; "Warm & Easy" is a sprightly rave breaks number with polished detuned synths and a well-placed MC sample while "Ghetto Yout" is straight up jungle with choppy amen damage. Finally "Get Yours" is a slower, kick-heavy hardcore jam that doffs its cap gently at the legacy of SUAD. Whistle crew.

Review: Jungle titan and all-round legend Digital raises the Function phoenix from the D&B ashes with this killer trio of timeless hurters. Hooking up with Response (who you may well recognise from recent Ingredients outings), "Silver Lining" is a heritage roller with bold drum switches, Bukem-esque dreamy pads and a sub that hammers like the taxman. The scene-affirming "Deadline" needs no introduction; and neither does Dub Phizix. Put them together and you've got happy-slapping bounce heaven. Finally Digital closes the show with "Forever", a stunning vocal unity track with breakbeats and detuned synths so ruthlessly old school you might start worrying about your next poll tax bill.
