Review: This special anniversary edition of Squarepusher's debut album Feed Me Weird Things is released almost exactly 25 years to the day after the original. Back then it came on Aphex Twin's now defunct Rephlex label and has not been available on streaming platforms ever since. All remastered from the original DATs and with a new, original booklet filled with note and ephemera it is an essential cop for fans old and new. The record broken out of the tight genre restrictions of the time to pair complex rhythms with disarming melodies.

Review: Workforce is a solo project from Jack Stevens, best known as one half of crisp modern D&B masters Spectrasoul. Following the runaway success of the Late Night Soundtrack series and drops on Exit, 1985 Music and Critical, Stevens is back on Must Make Music with a new album of finely sculpted rollers shot through with melancholic moods. Madi Lane sets the tone with her heartfelt vocal on 'Death Dreams' while the snatches of singing on 'Broken' equally casts the record in a meditative space. This is soundsystem music for heavy hearted headphone trips as much as the club, but the likes of 'Flight Instructions' have more than enough heft to shake the crowd up good n' proper.

Review: Did you know that Iceland had its own rather influential rave scene back in the 1990s? Whatever the answer to that question, you will want to check out this first-ever collection of anthems from that era which is now on vinyl for the first time. This collection came on Thule offshoot label TMT Entertainment as a CD in 1992 and features memorable and timeless tracks from back then, many of them now with cult status. It's called Alsaela, which translates as "ecstasy" and gives you some idea of what to expect from it. It features a non-stop selection of old school rave alongside some lost and previously unavailable classics by Agzilla & DJ L.S.K and some unreleased gems from AJAX. A great bit of history that still does the trick.

This compilation on Wonder Palace makes the case in no uncertain terms, taking a broad view over his work and delivering some stone cold classics alongside harder-to-find bits and pieces. What's apparent is how Krust build's vivid worlds within his tracks, not least on the widescreen classic 'Brief Encounters'. Review: We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records do thorough justice to their name by putting out this new LP from Pizza Hotline, a rather mysterious, no less keyword-optimised producer who makes liquid drum & bass inspired by PlayStation-era video games. With its formerly digital version described by the label as 'the craziest album of 2022', it's got eight tracks evoking blippy nostalgia and unbridled adventure via melodic synths, atmospheric pads and chirpy breakbeats. In other words, this is a riveting listen for anyone who might self-identify as a 'child of the internet', or whom at least grew up with videogames. Technically a reissue, this LP version also includes a previously unavailable track, 'POLYGON DREAMSCAPE'.

Review: Re:st continues to be an incredible source of adventurous thinking beyond the structures of drum & bass, and this latest record from Ghost Warrior would be hard pressed to claim an obvious link to the genre. It's more of an experimental jazz offering, using hollowed out notes and whispers of instrumentation, and yet somewhere in the sampling-as-artform process it captures some of the mind-bending magic of Source Direct, Photek et al. Delicate and moody as hell, this is another realm of music opening up and it's one we hope we get to explore deeper on further releases.

Review: Waggle your wonga gang! DLR is hitting the town and he's stacking up the paper with his third studio album Money Till I Got None. Of course when we say 'paper', we actually mean 'fat greasy d&b grooves', when we say 'stacking' we actually mean 'rolling out', and when we say 'waggle your wonga', we mean 'listen up you lot because this is one the genre's tightest, brightest groove sculptors at play and he's dealing it out like Noel Edmunds in Deal Or No Deal'. Seriously, this is super timeless tackle that nods in all the right directions; heavy, techy, funky, bruised with gritty robotic soul and all the other good things Sofa Sound stand for. Review: There's just no stopping Coco Bryce, who casually drops his third LP of the year on MYOR like it's no big deal. As low-slung opener 'High Commander' demonstrates, this isn't a one-trick jungle dump, but an album proper with nooks and crannies to get lost in. There are of course plenty of dazzling breakbeat excursions to savour - this is Coco Bryce after all - but even then his style has a refreshing, dynamic quality which makes for listening music as much as shockout juice. The low tempo beatdowns are just as incredible, full of vibe and bursting with inspiration, proving, as we already said, there is NO stopping our bredda in Breda.

Review: We've all looked skyward for inspiration at some point and now it's the turn of Pittsburgh-based d&b producer Alpha Rhythm. Michael Gorman, to use his real name, deals in the kind of introspective, ethereal rollers that suit rainy day reflection as much as the deeper part of a dance, and he applies that style to the celestial bodies of our solar system to great effect. Review: The Nullpunkt label is fast approaching its 25th release but first comes this fearsome outing from F&E. The third installment in the Forschung & Entwicklung series comes on grey vinyl and does not mess about with five more cuts all served up as Antal or Rural versions from 2016. The first rides on rusty jungle breaks, the second, 'Conclusion', is an atmospheric piece with a minimal rhythm and warped synth daubs while 'Six Days' is a dark and heavy piece of ambient techno dystopia. 'Outro' is the lightest and brightest piece of synth work on the EP then 'Research' brings back the jungle techno with more serrated synths and loopy, jagged rhythms.

Review: It's raining breaks! A hailstorm of jungle and drum n' bass has hit our shelves, and first of the droplets to settle (that is, onto our turntables) is FFF's latest album. Breaking away from the bangerized, 'Part Of The Order' is a junglist's fever dream, occupying the liminal spaces between rollage, hard heat and liquidation in equal measure. On it, tribal drum grooves ('Planet's Rhythm') and lo-fi breaks ('Disco Undertaker') weave between bursts of heavenly synthwork and existential vocal samples. Even weirdo art-pop jungle rears its head ('J.W.'s Experiment'), proving this one of the weirder ends to De Roos' catalogue.

Review: It's another Headz special! Bristol's finest Utopian, the man like Mako, delivers his debut solo album and it's every bit as deep, detailed and sense-slapping as you'd expect it to be. From the brilliantly brutalist "One Reality" to the rave-melting halftime switching "Flip It" via the bouncy harmonics of "Hoxton Home" and the depth plunge bassline and Subtitles-style rawness of the stripped back arrangement on "Offline", like all Metalheadz albums - and indeed Mako productions - this is a properly considered, thoughtful and detailed body of work. Powerfully punchy and high impact as it's compacted into a 30 minute hurricane, each cut is a glitchy zip from trip to trip; the wily vocal drop outs on "Downgrade", the sweary speaker kicking "FMS", the wonderfully whimsical "Lazy Day" and the near cosmic synths, gurgling bass and fizzy slapbass on "Obscure" are just some of the highlights that ping and ricochet you around Phace's multi layered, multi faceted, multi dimensional album. Every track is a highlight, each one and abyssal, immersive experience but essential highlights include the toxic bass bounces of Moresounds' "They Can't Handle It", the 23rd century UKG of Oris and Chris' "They Can't Handle It" and Krust's big screen masterpiece "Escape From Finland". Amit deserves a holiday. Or a massive trophy. Or both. Bass compilations don't get much bigger than this.

Review: Ten years after his debut solo album Gemini Principal, Exit bossman, D&B sage and ardent futurist Darren White tells us where he's at with his sophomore A Love I Can't Explain. Taking us several thousand leagues into his abyss, the vibe is heavy, moody, pensive and synthetic. Created on a whole arsenal of outboard machines, and not a sample in sight, this is dBridge in his most creative and narrative; political themes can be felt in the slo-mo autonomic purrs and glides of "Monitored Meanings", tension, pressure and hope combine somewhere in the distant future on the Lewis James collaboration "Violent Circuit Autonomy" while "Nachtlus" takes us even deeper into the machine where the distortion and textures are so strong you sense you can feel the circuits throbbing around you. Closing with his regular set opener "UR A Star" (a cover of his brother Steve Spacek) he leaves you writhing in the sudden twist of light at the end of a long dark tunnel. Immense, perplexing and built to last... This is an album we'll keep coming back to for years to come.

Review: There's no denying the quality (or quantity, for that matter) of Tim Reaper's mid-90s style jungle workouts. His bounding, floor-friendly cuts have been everywhere in 2018, or at least a dizzying array of retro-futurist record labels. Here he provides more quality dancefloor ammunition, with four fine cuts stretched across a dubplate style ten-inch double-pack. Highlights include the intoxicating skank of "The General", where hazy toaster vocal samples and jumpy reggae riffs ride heavy dub bass and skittish jungle beats, the all-out sub-bass assault of "The Walls of Jericho" (another dub-powered peak-time blinder) and the slowly building jungle dub madness of closing cut "Jarreau Dub", which includes some seriously snare-heavy drums.
