Review: Malaga-based producer Pablo Dread comes to Beat Machine Records for the eleventh edition of the special series Swinging Flavors, this time for the titular 'Hardcore Blips'. It's a limited edition 7" vinyl featuring swanging bassline kicks, shaking us to our core. This is a full-throttle journey hurtling towards uncontrollable euphoria with electrifying vibrations that magnetically pull us into a one-way ticket to ecstasy. The track's old-school rave sound, a hallmark of Dread's productions, immerses us ambiances typical of the 90s, with recurring piano chords that give way to a heavy and strict drum & bass drop. The single features a special remix by Fanu (Janne Hatula), known for his dynamic and evolving rhythms. Hailing from Helsinki, Finland, Fanu takes a departure from his usual thick chord-driven pieces, opting for a more minimal yet delightfully busy and slightly wonky approach. Drawing inspiration from Luke Vibert, this remix adds a playful and unique twist to the track.

Review: Jungle revivalists Coco Bryce and Tommy The Cat are old pals who've released numerous joint EPs over the years. Here they inaugurate a new series of split twelves - snappily titled 'CocoCat' - on Tommy The Cat's own Cat in the Bag label. Bryce handles side A, delivering the nostalgic jungle-techno thrills of 'You Care Before They Do'. It's a pleasingly energetic affair in which bleep techno style melodic motifs - think LFO, Sweet Exorcist etc - and shimmering futurist chords rise above a sweat-soaked jungle break and weighty bass. Over on the flip, Tommy The Cat doffs a cap to the early days of deep, jazzy d&b, successfully cloaking a punchy, Amen-driven beat and heady bassline in the dreamiest of chords.

Review: What's better than a Phace record? A Phace record the features some of his most exciting creative contemporaries. Each track tells its own unique tale; "Bang Bang" leads from the front with its great use of rhythmic vocal shots and dynamic arrangement, "Drawback" is as heavy and teeth-clenching as you'd want a Phace and Noisia record to be, "Wild Thing" is more understated than you'd expect a Current Value collaboration to be while "Yes!" sees Rockwell and Phace counter their four-year-old banger "No!" to great effect. Review: Two of the most rated men in D&B's next generation league, Emperor and Mefjus collaborations are always worth your time. Neither happy to conform to the rules established by peers, both relish in ending tracks with wry skits, both seriously on point with everything they've done in the last few years, naturally this follow up to their collaborative debut "Hello World" is just as firesome. All loaded with heavily sprung bass funk and oddball noises and designs that come in from nowhere, both originals are as original and distinctive as you'd want them to be. Comes complete with two long awaited versions; Emperor gullying the dickens out of "Dissuade" and Mefjus taking a hammer to "SMPL", rebuilding it in his own twisted way. Gloriously dark.

Review: The third heavyweight 12" to be purloined from Dispatch's elephantine Transit 2 album, here we find Halogenix rejuvenating 2012's slinky roller "Raya" with a massive VIP. With added bass textures and serious attention paid to the drums, it's essentially a whole new tune. EBK's "Strength" is equally stunning; all jittery and breakneck, the frenetic rhythm is countered neatly with an innocent glock riff that's at once naive and naughty. Incredibly powerful stuff.

Review: Tommy The Cat pounces again with another essential double 12", this time on the E-Beamz label. 'Strange Nights' kicks off with a flurry of icy breaks and liquid bass that are finished off with some haunting distant pads. 'Boulevard Of Broken Dreams' has a darker energy and more splash and crash to the drums, but also some introverted chords. Elsewhere there are more minimal pieces like 'After Sundown' and jazzy chord work defines 'Echo Chamber' with its sci-fi melodies. This is a perfect fusion of the past, present and future of drum & bass and it makes for quite the trip.

Review: Eatbrain takes no prisoners and makes no bones about its intent to serve up dance floor-destroying sounds. The fourth volume of is widely admired Lobotomy Cuts series is another big one with mind-blowing bass and maximal synths. It is Teddy Killerz who open up on that exact tip with the fizzing energy of 'Ghosts' before Jade's 'TV Says VIP' is a clattering, aggy stepper for the peak time. MNDSCP keeps the romp alive with visceral bass and drum combos ripping the dance floor a new one before Redpill's 'Mosh Pit' is an all-out aural assault and flurry of drum madness. Wicked.

Review: Vemodalen means 'The fear that everything has already been done.' If that's not an enticing enough invitation to dBridge's album then we don't know what is. The music as relatable, too. Powerful, slow, sexy and vulnerable, it paints from a synthetic palette anyone over 30 has grown up with and will know intuitively from music and movies. Ranging from poppy motifs that are reminiscent perhaps of Roxy Music or Visage to more introverted electronica that nods at the Rephlex sound and perhaps Si Begg, all backed up by his history as Heartdrive and the Autonomic sound, this is dBridge looking back to look forward. Stunning.

Review: Danish producer Milan Zaks has largely impressed since releasing his first cassette of dusty, rave-influenced downtempo grooves last year. Modern Species, his first outing for Firecracker Recordings, is easily his most expansive and impressive release to date. Stretched out across two slabs of wax you'll find dreamy, jungle-influenced deepness ("World A", "For Real For You"), cosmic dub ("Stellar Clusters", "Ascension"), spacey ambient techno ('Entry Mode"), Motor City influenced positivity ("Parallax") and Boards of Canada style loveliness ("Reluctant Memory"). Predictably, it's all superbly produced, with the material proudly sitting in the no man's land between club-ready rollers and horizontal home listening fare.
