Review: German scientist Current Value elevates his 14th studio album to wax status and the world is a better place. Rolling out over two heavyweight 12"s, this particular body of work explores the relationship between drum & bass and techno in a whole rainbow of interesting and uncompromising ways. From the pummelling non-stop 4x4s of 'Greed' to the glitchy, rising frequencies and twisted emotions of the title track, each cut takes a snapshot or a pinch of ingredients, inspects them on a microscopic level and turns them inside out. Elsewhere cuts like 'TNM' melt your face off with thundering beats and momentous energy while other tracks such as 'Deep Mind' go straight for the cranial sensation and fry your brain within seconds. An exceptional exploration. No one does it like Current Value.

Review: Astonishingly, a quarter of a century has now passed since The Prodigy released The Fat of the Land, the inspired rock-rave fusion opus that helped rocket the Essex combo towards superstardom and converted a whole generation of spotty indie kids to the joys of rambunctious rave music. It's certainly worthy of this limited-edition anniversary pressing, which comes on eye-catching silver-coloured vinyl. Of course, we all know the smash hits - the bustling, acid-flecked roll of 'Smack My Bitch Up', ultra-heavy 'Firestarter' and funky, low-slung 'Breathe' - but the set's lesser-celebrated moments, such as hip-hop jam 'Diesel Power', Meat Beat Manifesto-esque 'Serial Thrilla' and punky 'Fuel My Fire' have aged equally as well.

Review: Asian Dub Foundation's Enemy of the Enemy is one of the many classics in their arsenal. This is a first ever reissue of it on X-Ray Production. It as always develops their mix of traditional Indian music with electro, ragga and hip hop. This record brought with it a new sense of energy and forward momentum and has plenty of over-egged rhythms and debauched sounds that express revolt at the "liberal drifts of the Labour party under Tony Blair." The restless Londoners therefore made a social and political impact as well as physical dance floor one with this classic.

Review: We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records do thorough justice to their name by putting out this new LP from Pizza Hotline, a rather mysterious, no less keyword-optimised producer who makes liquid drum & bass inspired by PlayStation-era video games. With its formerly digital version described by the label as 'the craziest album of 2022', it's got eight tracks evoking blippy nostalgia and unbridled adventure via melodic synths, atmospheric pads and chirpy breakbeats. In other words, this is a riveting listen for anyone who might self-identify as a 'child of the internet', or whom at least grew up with videogames. Technically a reissue, this LP version also includes a previously unavailable track, 'POLYGON DREAMSCAPE'.

Review: There's no need to explain the importance of Krust to jungle and drum & bass - the Bristol pioneer set new standards and has a legacy overflowing with next level invention and shock-out grooves. This compilation on Wonder Palace makes the case in no uncertain terms, taking a broad view over his work and delivering some stone cold classics alongside harder-to-find bits and pieces. What's apparent is how Krust build's vivid worlds within his tracks, not least on the widescreen classic 'Brief Encounters'. There are deadly rollers like 'Set Speed' and 'Maintain', dreamy deep-divers like 'Jazz Note' and so much more in between. If you want seven seminal joints from a true master, this comp has got you covered.

Review: The one and only Krust makes beats like no other and has been out on a class of one since the beginning. He now makes a welcome return with a fourth instalment in his Irrational Numbers series on Wonder Palace Music, which gather together the glories of his 90s output which, at the time, were spread far and wide across many of the era's finest labels. It comes across four sides of vinyl and takes in his usual deft designs an innovative rhythms from the slick but jumpy minimal of the opener to the plug-in bass depths of 'Jazz Note II' via the tightly coiled funk of 'Not Necessarily A Man'. Another doozy from the drum & bass don.

Review: The eminent Krust continues to celebrate his endless and illustrious vault with these freshly reissued cuts from the past. From ice cold sci-fi jazz attacks such as 'Witchcraft' to epoch defining anthems such as 'Warhead', Krust points us in all directions - the cinematic, mournful weaves of 'True Stories', the bubbly jazz funk of 'Quiz Show' and 'Blaze Dis One', the list of Krust's sounds and skills goes on and on. A most iconic pioneer. Long may this series continue!

Review: All hail King Krust, a true totem of d&b innovation from his earliest days right up to the present moment. The Irrational Numbers series on Wonder Palace is doing a sterling job of combing back through his monumental legacy as a key protagonist in the Bristol-rooted Full Cycle crew and there's so much heat a third double-LP volume doesn't feel anything close to excessive. On this edition we're getting treated to unbelievable workouts like his Gang Related production 'Rukus' and the widescreen scope of 'The Resister', a staggeringly visionary slice of hi-tech soul from 1993. There's just so much invention and expression on here, rightly confirming Krust's place in the d&b hall of fame.

Review: Western Lore is a Bristol based record label run by DJ and visual artist Alex Eveson aka Dead Man's Chest. Their latest comes from local producer Jordan Parsons aka Crypticz, who follows up last year's terrific Patterns EP and again draws from a wide palette of underground UK music: from dub, grime and footwork and (even drum & bass) on Between Dust & Time. After the breathtaking epic that is A side track 'Broadcast Feeling', you'll also experience the meditative world music of 'Ocean Blue' (feat Amy Kisnorbo), the soothing trip-hop vibe of 'Lakutala' (version) and the hypnotic tabla rhythms of 'Nightshifter's Groove'.

Rent Boy (8:48)
Review: Come ye and be seated. Let us pray. Longtime bosom buddies Response and Pliskin continue their turbo technique with this skin-singeing four-piece on DMC's Western Lore. It begins with a wholesome gathering in God's house as 'Drug Church' lays down a pulverising and haunting 4/4 sermon. Elsewhere 'Black White Red All Over' continues the marching vibe but with more of a locomotive roll and big emotional pads lapping away over the top. 'Rent Boy' finishes their trio of originals with a turbine 4x4 thrust and more choral voices than a royal funeral and more acid than a 1991 squat party. Throw in a superb tear-up from the unstoppable Tim Reaper and you're 'More Disturbed' than ever. Amen.

Review: Litness the fitness! Witness this business... Yung Thugz returns with the full album he teased us with recently and it's a full-on rave odyssey from the off as the title track sledgehammers us with a big detuned rave riff. It's a full steam celebration of the foundations right through to the future throughout as cuts like the piano-primed 'Dissociative Funk', the ice cold prangy slapper 'United Kingdom', the acidic jazzy freak-out 'Overall Failure' and the far-out drum sorcery and cosmic flow of 'The Watchtower' all map out the album's most exciting parameters. Timeless, rooted in the foundations, but not dragging its feet in history for nostalgia's sake, Thugwidow isn't just lit... he's damn well on the money. Thug life is beautiful.

Response, Denham Audio, Elkie, Eusebeia, Bluematter, Pod, Wrecked Lightship, and Low End Activist provide tribute. Less concerned with paying homage to the old-school, these ones come instead revel in the possibilties modern production can bring to jungle's round table - a few of them could have been made in the 1990s. Wrecked Lightship's 'Shell', Response's 'Tides' and Eusebeia's 'Turning Point' are our go-tos here.

Blunted Breaks takes things to a whole new level, however, as we're treated to 12 more outstanding broken affairs from some of DMC's peers; Earl Grey, Threshold, Thugwidow, Coco Bryce and many more. Highlights hang from every corner of the crate as the likes of Response & Pliskin flip the technoid switch on "Anima Morta", Cavanaut takes us deep sea diving on "Vanishing Point" and DMC and Bryce go toe to toe for a skanked up swaggering finale. Get blunted.

Review: While their powers may have waned in recent years, there was a time when each new Autechre release was nigh on essential. This sumptuous box set from Warp revisits that time, collecting together all 47 tracks from their singles between 1991 and 2002. Naturally, it runs chronologically, beginning with their hard, rave-era floor fillers (see "Cavity Job") and early IDM experiments (various versions of the brilliant "Basscadet"), before moving on to the clattering rhythms of the Anvil Vapre and Envane EPs, the smacked-out bliss of Cichlisuite and the dystopian worlds of EP 7. Along the way there are two Peel Sessions, a raft of forgotten favourites and a skip load of cold and weary gems.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

This special anniversary edition of Squarepusher's debut album Feed Me Weird Things is released almost exactly 25 years to the day after the original. Back then it came on Aphex Twin's now defunct Rephlex label and has not been available on streaming platforms ever since. All remastered from the original DATs and with a new, original booklet filled with note and ephemera it is an essential cop for fans old and new. The record broken out of the tight genre restrictions of the time to pair complex rhythms with disarming melodies.

Review: Not too many artists can create a buzz quite like when word spreads of a new album more than Squarepusher. Dostrotime is the first album for Tom Jenkinson in nearly four years, one of his longest breaks between albums. Proceeding the album release, the video for the hardcore acid banger Wendorlan has been making the rounds on the internet. If this is any indication of the rest of the album, then expect some serious heat. Audio samples have been tightly secured to protect leaks online until the release date. This album will be spread over a 2x12 and nicely packaged in gatefold form and no doubt contain some great gallops through the genre spectrum like only Squarepusher can do.

Review: Finally! After the unfortunate leak in August the band executed a precision rejoinder and instantly released their critically-acclaimed second album digitally. We've been waiting for this luxury vinyl edition ever since... Four 12"s, boxed with a poster of their unique art: everything about this smacks of the level of detail they plough into their productions. Musically it's consistently on beat with every minutiae; the Clockwork Orange breaks of "Collider", the rusty robot KO punches of "Voodoo", the never-ending evangelic thrust of "Mantra", the hazy soul of "Motion Blur", the spiked slams and turbo synths of "The Entangled" - every one of the album's 18 tracks is here in all its glory and on vinyl where they should be. One of the best bass success stories of the year.

Review: They hit the limit... The limit hit back! Everything about this EP is awesome: firstly, the partnership of two of drum & bass's most on-point production teams. Secondly, "Mouthbreather" has been on all god-fearing neurofunkologist's wishlist for several years and it doesn't disappoint. Thirdly, "Dead Limit" one of the grizzliest, unruly tunes you'll hear all year. Fourthly, "Inverse" is the ultimate definition of elastic D&B funk. Fifthly, "Omnivore" contains some of the strangest, captivating sound design ever processed for the dance. Sixthly, the artwork is bang on point too. Trust us; this hits hard!

Review: Thundering, uncompromising neuro from three of the most forward-thinking minds in the scene delivered across four spacious sides... Each of these four cuts are so heavy, it would be criminal to squeeze them all on one 12"! "Incessant" has a really itchy, nagging techno-minded hook that punches at a really breezy high frequency it's unnerving. "Clusterfunk" is more of a classic scratchy, jittering jam that scuffs and rubs against every logical grain in your brain. "Reptilians" continues to tear holes into 2015 since early arrival on Vision's recent 10 years collection while "Banshee" comes with a choral harmony so haunting rumour has it Groningen's priests have all tried to exorcise Noisia's HQ with so much holy water Holland is nearing drought status. Incessant just about sums it up.

Review: In today's climate, the term EP is surely one of the most misused by record labels; we've lost count of the number of two track 12"s that arrive at Juno HQ labelled as EPs in error by thems that don't know. Dutch drum and bass troupe Noisia are fully aware that it means Extended Play as this Purpose EP demonstrates with a full grip of some eight tracks slapped across four 12"s! Housed in a gatefold sleeve featuring artwork from Nik and Khomatech, Purpose features collaborations with contemporaries Phace, Prolix and Evol Intent. Noisia Fans will probably already have soaked up the viciously ill opening track "Oh Oh" and the remainder of the EP doesn't relent one bit with "Running Blind" a particular highlight.

Review: Icicle's third and final Post album hits the shelves on a poignant week as the Dutch artist has officially announced his retirement from the bass game at the end of the year. A moment for reflection and a moment to consider how much he's contributed to the worlds of drum & bass, dubstep and techno (under his Cracht alias) Post captures the essence of Icy's stark, stripped-back precision funk. From the post-apocalyptic pneumatic stepper 'Post' to the much more emotional and springy 'Don't Blink' via the technoid grimbles of 'Threshold' and 'Dominate', it's a fitting farewell from one of electronic music's most consistent, forward-thinking yet understated engineers.

Review: The Upbeats are one of the proudest exponents of New Zealand's drum & bass scene, and their new album Not Forever represents something of a breakthrough into the premier league of crossover acts juggling crushing production with pop sensibilities. Capitalising on the regroup and refocus phenomenon of lockdown life, they doubled down on their process and took it into bold new places. From reflective atmospheric moments like 'Theodore' to the mellow, Joe Dukie-featuring neo-soul joint 'Beams', there's plenty more than face-melters to be enjoyed here, but when they want to turn up the heat as on half step monster 'All We've Got', they absolutely can. You won't have heard an album like this from anyone else in that corner of the D&B scene.
