Review: Exit supergroup Binary Collective (comprising dBridge, Joe Seven, Kid Drama and Consequence) lay down their debut document... And it's every shade of retro-stated future you'd hoped it would be. Diving deep into the analogue abyss, each cut attempts to out-deep the next while remaining well weighted and groove-focused. "Binary Theme" is Moroder on Mogadon, "In Pursuit" is a car chase in toxic treacle, "Cloud Creeping" is what trip hop would sound like if it was invented 20 years later while "Sentries Watch Us" sounds like one of Parliament's more experimental jams but played and recorded under water. These daft comparisons are just the tip of the iceberg, though - it's hard to reference music as matchless as this... Listen and interpret it in your own universe.

Mosaic Vol 2 Part 1
VARIOUS
Cat: EXITLP 011PT1. Rel: 31 Jul 13

Drum & Bass / Jungle
J:Kenzo - "One Drop"
Kryptic Minds - "Burnt To Ashes"
CMX - "Tessarae"
Machine Drum - "The Palace"
Ruffhouse - "Greyscale"
Om Unit & Sam Binga - "Triffidz"
Kid Drama - "One 6 Eight"
Loxy & Resound - "Residual Movement"
Review: Some two year's after Exit Recording's era defining Mosaic compilation, D Bridge ushers in the next stage of the Autonomic sound with a second installment. Whilst that debut compilation was closely associated with the surfeit of artists with close ties to Exit, this second volume sees D Bridge look farther afield for contributions and this is reflected in the broader tone of sounds you will find across the three double LP parts that make up Mosaic Vol 2's physical release. Part One sets the tone, drawing in works from the likes of Machinedrum, J Kenzo, Om Unit & Sam Binga and Kryptic Minds with Travis Stewart's soulfully inclined contribution "The Palace" a true highlight.

Mosaic Vol 2 Part 2
VARIOUS
Cat: EXITLP 011PT2. Rel: 31 Jul 13

Drum & Bass / Jungle
Dub Phizix - "Yukon"
System - "Sound Man"
dBridge - "Not Known"
Elek - "Want You To Know"
Rockwell - "*)* [808]"
Kutz - "The Bridge"
Beastie Respond - "One More Second"
THY LVE - "What We Promise"
Review: Rockwell, Beastie Respond, Dub Phizix and label boss D Bridge all feature on the second of three double LP released as part of the Mosaic Vol 2 compilation. The sonic landscape has shifted notably since Mosaic Vol 1 charted an accurate representation of the Autonomic sound, and much like the first part of Vol 2, the eight tracks here show that Exit Recordings are remaining as ahead of the curve as ever before. From Dub Phizix's typically moody opener, System and Rockwell offer up some rude rollers that are complemented nicely by the more serene efforts of D Bridge and Elek whilst Kutz and Beastie Respond bring the head nod heaviness.

Mosaic Vol 2 Part 3
VARIOUS
Cat: EXITLP 011PT3. Rel: 31 Jul 13

Drum & Bass / Jungle
dBridge - "My Night Sky"
Joe Seven - "Juiced"
Fracture - "Sick Wid It" (feat Dawn Day Night)
Consequence & FIS - "Cultural Trauma"
Clarity - "Constant"
Dan HabarNam - "Sistem Nelimitat"
Stray - "LA Zoom"
Blackpocket - "After Beris"
Review: Of the three Double 12" releases tied in with Mosaic Vol 2, it's probably this last one that stays closest to the Autonomic sound that's become synonymous with the Exit Recordings label run by D Bridge. It's the operation's overseer that sets the tone with his second production of the compilation "My Night Sky" which ripples along pensively at 170BPM, and whilst the mood might shift from here the tempo largely doesn't. Highlight's include the 808 rimshots of Fracture's "Sick Wid It" and the murky beat abstraction of the Consequence & FIS collab "Cultural Trauma" whilst D Bridge should be applauded for coaxing Stevie Spacek to return to his Black Pocket project for final cut "After Beris".

Strumpet EP
Strumpet EP (double 12")
Cat: EXIT 057. Rel: 19 May 15

Drum & Bass / Jungle
Strumpet (6:53)
Stranger (5:55)
The Sweet (5:35)
Concrete (5:28)
Review: Calibre on Exit... Need we say more? Four tracks deep, each one as subtle and classy as you'd expect. "Strumpet" balances swooning somnambulant strings, distant harmonies and a bumping bass that billows with the perfect amount of gruff. "Stranger" is a sharper, steppier blend with metallic twists to the undulating subs, "The Sweet" is all about the rhythm thanks to insistent percussive jungle shakers and a drum dynamic that switches from lean to mean at the drop of a snare. Finally we hit "Concrete". The hardest track of the pack; here we find Calibre in a more unrelenting mood as an array of bass tones ebb and flow over a thicker, more robust rhythm. The clue's in the title... Calibre is indeed a sonic strumpet of highest order.

What Goes Around
What Goes Around (double 12")
Cat: EXITMINILP 003. Rel: 12 Dec 17

Drum & Bass / Jungle
Fixate - "What Goes Around" (5:36)
Fixate & Skeptical - "The Rig Monkey" (4:11)
Fixate - "Tweeked" (4:14)
Fixate & Dismantle - "Firewater" (6:23)
Fixate - "Rumours" (5:10)
Fixate - "Murderers Dance Too" (4:11)
Review: Ease up selectors! London's Fixate returns to the mothership with this beastly six-tracker double 12". Covering all bases and styles, the whole selection is a toxic melting pot: "What Goes Around" is a celebration of every roller that ever was, "The Rig Monkey" (with Skeptical) is twisted halftime vibe with eerie humanised textures providing the main drive of the song while "Tweeked" staggers for a jag down techno town. Rounding up we're scorched with a little Latin piano heat on "Firewater" (with Dismantle) before signing out with the steppy danger growler "Rumours". Serious mischief music from the Richie Brain member once again.

Without A Trace EP
Without A Trace EP (double 12")
Cat: EXIT 071. Rel: 21 Feb 17

Drum & Bass / Jungle
Without A Trace (4:12)
Solitude (4:54)
Taurus (9:08)
Killa (4:15)
Review: Skeptical & Alix Perez... Contemporary drum & bass production tag-teams really don't get any sharper, deeper or slicker. Following previous collaborations "Elephant Dreams" and "Room 667" with four stark cuts, get ready for a lean, mean adventure: "Without A Trace" grunts with a grainy textured hook that's one of a kind, "Solitude" stutters and wriggles with minimal mystery - each of the key ingredients comprising a beastly groove that defies the sum of its parts. Further into the odyssey we hit the incredible oceanic synth bliss, cosmic soul and jungle tidal waves of "Taurus" and get our creps stuck in the gooey swampy halftime gully soup of "Killa". Crucial.

Made In Silence (5:16)
Set Me Free (4:50)
One Note (3:29)
Pulse (3:26)
Review: Madison Willing - a film composer who makes ambient/orchestral soundscapes - makes a standout debut on wax here alongside long time drum &bass innovator dBridge on his Exit label. It came about after dBridge reached out over a year ago having heard Madison's self released debut album. They agreed they were fans of each other and starting sending music, thoughts and texts to and fro until the music we have here eventually coalesced. It is a beautiful and beguiling mix widescreen cinematic soundscapes with dBridge's expressive rhythms and twitchy synths powering it along. It is a superb coming together of two great talents.

Oh No EP
Oh No EP (12")
Cat: EXIT 099. Rel: 06 Dec 22

Bass
Wet Brain (5:07)
We Want (5:42)
Oh No (extended mix) (5:03)
Fonda U (6:19)
Review: Maverick man Itoa is back on dBridge's Exit with more uncategorisable flavours. Sitting somewhere between techno, footwork and jungle, once again it's a high energy session that refuses to compromise in any direction. 'Wet Brain' comes with a tribal, Detroit-like feeling and heaven sent pads on the breakdown. 'We Want' is a ploughman funk-up with beats so chunky they could choke a hamlet of gammons, 'Oh No' is a playful acid romp while 'Fonda U' closes the EP on an upbeat, uplifiting affair. Oh yes.
