Review: What can we say about Break that hasn't already been said? This man is D&B mythology - every producer name checks, every DJ represents, every soldier on the dancefloor knows that Break equals neck-snapping quality of the highest order. Both tunes on this release are, it goes without saying, superb, but both come from different dark places. "Groove With it" is the stepper you want, "Soldier" is the heavy, bottomed-out, snare-flailing danger zone you need. Drum and bass for the connoisseur who still likes to get messed up when it suits. Beautiful.

Review: Bristol label Symmetry Records have decided to kick-start the New Year in requisite fashion with Symmetry Sessions vol 1, a digital collection featuring contributions from some of the top names in the scene. Label boss Break naturally features quite prominently on the six track release and Symmetry have decided to pull two highlights from the Sessions for this 12" sampler. Given that a remix of Break is a rare thing, it's no surprise that the highly prized Calibre relick of "They're Wrong" lines the A Side, rolling effortlessly towards the run out groove in a fashion that Calibre does so well. Face down and Break teams up with the gifted and blessed DLR for "New Design" which is a fine slab of dark tech step.

Review: Klute's imperious Commercial Suicide proffer the third double vinyl sampler pack from the excellent label compilation CD that slipped out in the final moments of 2011. Across the 48 inches of wax present there are some exclusive and naturally heavyweight contributions from some of Commercial Suicide's finest artists with Cern, Dose & Teknik teaming up on the opening track "Huntville" with suitably explosive results - not least the nuclear strength bass line that ripples throughout menacingly. Alongside it Break goes all 25th Century tech step on the quite brilliant "Freaks" whilst "Orion" occupies similar space whilst focusing on a more grinding bassline. The ever excellent Calibre ensures that age old adage about best till last is pertinent here with the paranoid steppahs delight of "Student Music" a considered highlight.

Review: A much loved figure across the D&B spectrum, Break brings us his next utterance on none other than Critical Music, who are enjoying their time in the limelight at the moment, following Kasra's recent Fabriclive mix. Here, we see Break doing what he does best in "Here We Go" as he goes in hard and fast, with pounding bass; those unmistakable Break er, breaks; and plenty of fury in the grinding synths which pepper this spectacular release. "Soundwaves", in some ways a slightly less intense cut, pairs a muffled reggae vocal, with almost impenetrable sub bass and low-end frequencies.

Review: Five years have passed since Bristol-based beat-chiseller Break last dropped the A-bomb. The whole scene has changed hugely since then, but with his new LP Break is preparing to take us back to the days when only the groove (and some perfectly processed snares) mattered: The Kyo-fronted "Simpler Times" is a barbed soul roller with just the right amount of roughage while "Top Shooter" is a straight up slapper with deep rumbling subs and Break's gritty rhythm signature. Bring on the album!

Review: Break's long-awaited third album is getting closer and closer by the sampler. We don't need to the hype it; the word couplet of Break and album is self-hyping enough to all who know their D&B. We don't even need to hype these tracks; "Free Your Mind" opens with a lush "Love So True" style reggae refrain before dropping into free-flowing rolling gold topped by Fats instantly distinctive harmonies. "Brand New" opens with heavenly chords before dropping into a deliciously rough and angular groove. Classic Break, both of these kill it on all corners. Bring on the album!

Review: Break: the man, the myth, the monstrously prolific producer finally delivers his third album... And it's every bit as juicy, soulful, savage and unique as you'd expect it to be. Joined by the likes of longstanding vocalist Kyo, old friends DLR and Xtrah and the some of the finest dulcets any MC has ever sung (Fats, naturally), Break's collection treads the fine line between home listening heaven and back-to-back DJ-ready bangers. Highlights? How does 'every track' sound to you. Specifically, though, "Free Your Mind" (with the aforementioned Fats) is up there with "Love So True", "Confidential" stabs and zaps like an updated version of early Bad Company while "Late Exclusives" has amens so finely diced and EQ'd you could power a jet with them. Review: 10 years of Symmetry - 10 years of Break being an absolute boss. Respected by all sides of the game, his on-point balance of a funk and true grit has united us for over a decade and he's about to drop a brand new full-lengther of his own productions and remixes to celebrate. The two cuts showcase his range and skillish charm perfectly: "Give In To Me" features long-term collaborator Kyo who gives her most powerful soulful vocal over classic Break organs and a heavily swung beat. "Who Got Da Funk" is much sharper and grizzlier with its wasp nest bassline and punctuated two-step. Both prime us for the imminent album.

Headed by Exposure the forward-thinking label strike more barbed soul gold on their third release. Break takes the lead with a white knuckle spacefunk of "Solvent". Almost taking a classic early 2000s neuro tone, it's Break in a playful space race type of mood. Flip for some silky vocal soul from Exposure as the dulcet feels of Mark Douglas wrap neatly over dreamy pianos and pads. No regrets.

Review: Engine Music finally step up with their third release with a solid 12" by Break. On the a-side you have "Follow The Heat", a track reminiscent of the Sunday Sessions (in our humble opinion) yet rejuvenated for 2007. Tight, crisp beats and luscious strings lead up to sinister bass stabs then drops into what we describe as a gritty piece of funk. On the flip we have "External" which shows exactly what this man is known for - minimal techno rollers.
