Review: It's been a big year for Hospital. Shucks, every year is a big year for London Elektricity's imprint, but 2014 seems especially big with huge albums from the likes of Fred V & Grafix, S.P.Y and now Metrik. Repping his game, the label and the genre at the highest level, Universal Language is a highly accomplished calling card for Metrik that showcases his ability to create barn-storming rave homages ("Make The Floor Burn"), arena-slapping sing-along lighter-raisers ("Human Again", "Infinity"), techy underground rollers ("Slipstream") and unifying cuts that give the legendary Underworld a run for their money ("Resonate"). Maintaining a fine balance of great songwriting, muscular production and straight-up dancefloor abandon, this speaks to every corner, every sub genre and every tiny pocket of D&B. Just as the title suggests.

Review: Dive headfirst into a unique sonic underground experience as Hospital Records proudly unveils the highly anticipated debut album, Streets, Love & Other Stuff, from the dynamic duo P Money and Whiney. This groundbreaking collaboration is a perfect storm, fusing P Money's totemic grime background with Whiney's futuristic drum & bass style, as the pair continue to break boundaries and push the realms of dance music. The collaboration is an energetic one, combining the driving force of drum & bass with the urban lyrical situation of grime.

Review: Get unstuck with these two delicious refixes from Unglued's debut 2021 album Interplanetary Radio as two of the most highly respected beat carvers apply their scalpels to one of Hospital's most exciting new-generation stars. The ravey 'Total XTC' is perfect fodder for Exit's Fixate as he winds up the 4x4s and laces it with his own special hardcore essence. The super sweet soul of 'Way Back When' is also a perfect fit for its remixer as Halogenix brings a whole new hazy shade to the dreamy vibes. Far out.

This is on top of the huge 25 rack album that came back in March and features a load more essential remixes, reworks, VIPs and covers of NHS drum & bass classics. Everything Is Possible (5:16)
Fly (4:30)

Elevate (4:32)
Review: Following her arrival on the label in January, south coast soulstress SOLAH delivers her first full Hospital EP. Flexing the most musical, shiniest sides of the genre, positive vibes flow from edge to edge as she takes centre stage over a range of sweetly treated beats. 'Everything Is Possible' is all about the big harmonies, 'Fly' is a light, skippy bubbler with LSB style flurries and big subs humming beneath the textures while her arrival track 'Constant' still sparkles like it did back in January before 'Elevate' closes the 12" on a dreamy note. The vocal side of drum & bass has never been as healthy as it is right now.

Review: The last time we heard from Hospital Records veteran Matt Gresham AKA Logistics, the Coronavirus pandemic was only in its infancy. The release of Love Letters, his first EP for over two years, is therefore a welcome development. It's packed to the rafters with warming, colourful and melodious drum & bass in his long-established trademark style, with sparkling and dreamy opener 'Love Letters', the slightly more percussive 'Yoga' and the picturesque, laid-back two-step beauty of 'Continuation' all moving the heart as much as the head. Arguably best of all, though, are the twinkling 'Secret Satellite', featuring fine vocals from Zoe Philips, and the head-nodding dancefloor soul of Frank Carter III hook-up 'Nightingale'.

Review: When Hospital Records launched some 16 years ago, it was primarily to focus on the more soulful side of drum & bass. While London Elektricity's imprint is now about so much more than that, many of its' releases still bristle with an expansive soulfulness. This mixed, mid-price, two-disc affair pays tribute to the label's soulful side, delivering sinewy, string-laden gems, vocal anthems, and liquid D&B classics from the likes of SPY, High Contrast, Nu:Tone, Logistics, Danny Byrd, Phuturistix and, of course, London Elektricity. Who mixed it isn't revealed, but they've done a great job; both discs ripple with melody, emotion and, of course, skittering dancefloor rhythms. This is Fast Soul Music, after all.

Review: Logistics is one of the most enduring and legendary names in the drum & bass game by now, and the Hospital label is just as mighty, so a coming together of the two is always going to be special - extra special when its on a nice transparent yellow 12". First up is 'Taste' with T-Man and it's a big tune with moody mic work up top and crisp breakbeats down low. 'End Sequence' is high speed thriller with sleek drums and hits and busy cosmic leads while 'Dawn' is another collab, this time with SOLAH bring some spine tingling and soulful vocals to a smoother roller. Lastly, 'Faded' brings the EP to an end with another deep cut with melancholic leads and tender vocal sounds.

Citadels (4:50)

Lazy Bones (4:35)
Review: Since signing to Hospital last year Krakota has delivered a progressively on-point stream of rollers and bubblers. Hot on the heels of "Ice Hands" and "Ghosts" comes the Bournemouth artist's first fully fledged EP and it's something of a vibe marathon: "In The Area" soothes with soft harmonic basses in a similar way to early Netsky or perhaps Nu:Logic material, "Citadels" is a floaty, cosmic meander through the jungle milky way. Looking for Krakota's harder side? Look no further than "Crash Pads"; all Experience-era detuned synths and swashbuckling amens, it's undiluted rave juice. Finally "Lazy Bones" brings us back to earth with a piano-shaped cushion... Before packing us off to sub boot camp with some very devious but subtle bass dynamics. Krakota's best release to date, without question.

Featuring collaborations with Ayah Marar, TC, Skittles, Shaz Sparks, Futurebound and Jenna G, the album spans D&B, dubstep, drumstep and electro-house in a 14-track genre-crossing opus that will have you raising the roof with excitement. Highlights from across the album include the immense, tempo-switching "Run Riot" and the euphoric, feel-good title track "Cross the Line". Essential listening.

Review: Since signing to the Hospital label Camo & Krooked have infiltrated the mainstream of the drum and bass genre with consummate ease. Cross The Line is a shinier, more polished record than last year's debut Above & Beyond, the Austrian duo bashing out eighteen tracks - four of which appear on this chunky 2xLP - of the kind of polished, main room fare that will have everyone jumping about like lunatics. At times reminiscent of label mate Netsky, their youthful energy and boundless enthusiasm constantly shines through and they switch tempos and styles effortlessly, all the while retaining an eye for an anthem. This is huge.

Review: Whilst it's now considered one of drum and bass's most towering institutions, there was a time when Hospital Records' uniquely melodic brand of "disco D&B" was thrillingly cutting edge. Here Tony Colman's label celebrates 15 years of dancefloor bangers and changing attitudes with a fine anniversary collection. The first disc boasts 15 new or previously unreleased exclusives from the label's artists, with notable contributions from Nu:Tone (whose Adele rework is a delight), High Contrast, Danny Byrd and S:P:Y. Disc two, meanwhile, offers a treat for long-term listeners and label newcomers in the shape of a dizzying 29-track mix of Hospital classics from regular contributor Cyantific. Terrific stuff.

Review: Now firmly established as the drum and bass label of choice for those who like it with a disco tinge, Tony Colman's Hospital imprint reached their 15th anniversary recently and dropped a heavyweight compilation last week to celebrate. Attempts to appease those that prefer their amens to roll out from a slice of wax are made with this, the first of two twelve inch samplers containing a double dose of tracks from the aforementioned Fifteen Years of Hospital release. Given their long standing service for Hospital it's only right that High Contrast and Logistics line up either side here! The former drops a killer VIP refix of his now classic Hospital contribution "If We Ever" which was originally out back in 2007, whilst Logistics graces us with a totally fresh cut in the shape of "Closer".

Review: If the January blues are getting you down, this low-price mix-up from Tomahawk could put a smile back on your face. Acting as a promotional tool for Hospital's increasingly popular Hospitality party brand, it offers an exciting and, at times, joyous journey through contemporary D&B that's never less than rip-roaring fun. There are plenty of D&B strands represented, from Hospital's own funk and string-laden style, via rave-tinted old skool junglisms (remixes from Stray and Nu:Tone), via deeper cuts (Sin, Blu Mar Ten) and even the odd spot of two-step (Frederic Robinson's superb "Laughing At Clouds"). With 31 tracks shoehorned into 70 minutes, it's a real non-stop rinse-out. Highly recommended.

Review: Since first turning junglism on its head with his thrilling 2002 debut album True Colours - perhaps the first true "disco D&B" set - Lincoln "High Contrast" Barrett has become one of drum and bass's most revered artists. With a steadfast commitment to the musical possibilities of the genre and a positive mindset, his albums are rarely less than impressive. The Agony & The Ecstacy, his fourth full-length and first for five years, is no different. Grandiose in design and scale, it mixes kaleidoscopic, upbeat anthems ("Emotional Vampires", "Father, Can't You See I'm Burning") with big name collaborations (Tiesto and Underworld variously lend a hand) and comfy, dowbeat grooves ("The Only Way There", "Not Waving, But Drowning") - all sprinkled with Barrett's gorgeous, rainbow-tinted production.

Review: Welsh D&B producer High Contrast (or Lincoln Barrett to friends and fam) delivers The Agony & The Ecstasy, his fourth studio album for the evergreen Hospital Records imprint - and it's fair to say it's quite the epic. The name alone would hint so, but the album comes covered in some classic Caravaggio and this vinyl edition is pretty hefty, with eight of the twelve tracks granted a side each on the four slabs of wax housed in a gatefold sleeve (with the full album included on CD). Musically, this is described by Barrett himself as the most personal album to date, though there are still plenty of the producer's signature production nuances on display throughout as well as some deviations into interesting new rhythmic directions. There are also plenty of collaborations with the likes of Claire Maguire, Liane Carrol and Underworld contributing.

Review: Ever since first emerging back in 2006, S.P.Y has been tipped for the top. Producer Carlos Lima has always taken a grandiose, musically adventurous approach to drum and bass, marking him out in a scene filled with fly-by-night chancers and darkroom obsessives. It's fitting, perhaps, that this debut album is coming out on Hospital, a label that has long held positivity and fluidity as its core values. What The Future Holds is expansive and upbeat even by Hospital standards, packed with tracks that drip with shimmering strings, bold builds and glistening melodies. Of course, there are tougher and darker workouts - see the "Inner City Life"-ish "Analogue Dreams" and murky "Infiltrate - but these merely serve to emphasize the beauty showcased elsewhere.

Review: Hospital's now legendary Sick music series hits its third chapter and the label have decided to tease us with two well selected cuts that span the myriad palate of D&B with ease and grace. First up is Stray's remix of Byrd's latest floor-slayer "Blaze The Fire". His blunderbusting, shin-kicking amen action acts as the perfect bed for General Levy's toasting, making it the perfect shock out joint. Raiden's "Dove From Above", meanwhile, is a much more contemporary vocal cut. All metallic and grunty, it spits attitude. Sick indeed.

Review: The only bug you want to pick up this winter, Hospital's third Sick Music compendium is, quite possibly, the label's best one yet. Bulging with talent, you'll be hard pushed what to play first: Total Science's Orbitalesque "Now As It Was Then", Maldini's grunge-groove "Party Time", Netsky's technicolour flying groove carpet remix of Madeon or S.P.Y's absolutely monstrous rub High Contrast. The list goes on... This collection truly is sick.

Review: Second time around for Boris "Netsky" Daenen's sophomore set, the simply titled 2. This time, the original album - a festival-friendly mix of funk-flavoured rollers, grandiose vocal anthems, hip-hop influenced dubstep jams and forthright tweakers - gets joined by a second disc of bonus cuts and remixes. Much of this material is in a similar vein to the original album, though there are curious diversions - see the pop-house of "We Can Only Live Today (Puppy)" and disco-flavoured 4/4 chunkiness of Netsky's own remix of "Love Must Go On" - and a trio of typically-energetic live tracks, recorded at Pukkelpop and AB.

Love You Like Shir
Review: "What's that Hospital? Danny Byrd and Roni Size on one track together? Yes please" The aforementioned duo's humongous collaboration "Grit" sees release on Hospital accompanied by a rather bizarre/amusing/excellent video (delete as appropriate) The sight of Kermit, The Count, R2D2 and Yoda amongst others enjoying the studio mix down much to the bemusement of Size and Byrd is one you should check out of pure curiosity. Hard it is, not to join Yoda in the moshing of the head too; Ruff breaks and gut punching stabs ride that searing sub bass with exactly the kind of aplomb you'd expect from these two. On the flip "Love You Like This" is one of those shameless vocal rollers that Byrd does so well.

Review: Viennese "stadium bass" combo Camo & Krooked offer further proof of the continued blurring of boundaries between drum & bass, dubstep and electro-house. Between The Lines, a partner album to last year's radio-friendly debut Cross The Line, gleefully mashes these genres into a heavy, radio-friendly mixture guaranteed to get pulses racing at giant outdoor raves. There are, of course, cute touches - see the twinkling pianos on BCEE's remix of "Afterlife" - but for the most part the assorted remixes and B-sides collected here have all the subtlety of a punch in the mush from Vladimir Klitschko. It is, though, heaps of fun and doesn't take itself too seriously - something that can't be said for all dance music these days.

Anubis (Inside Info remix)
Review: Viennese "stadium bass" combo Camo & Krooked approach drum and bass with all the subtlety of a punch in the mush from Vladimir Klitschko, and their popularity is grounded in this maximal, festival friendly blurring of boundaries between D&B, dubstep and electro house. This 12" culls two of the tracks from their recent Between The Lines remix album for C & K fans who like their wax. Mind Vortex call shotgun with a reworking of "Cryptkeeper" that transforms the already rambunctious original into a slab of monolithic, grinding dancefloor pressure whilst "Anubis" is approached from an entirely different angle by Inside Info. The Londoner turns in a supremely dark and twisted remix that bleeps and gurgles in all the right places beneath the roughed up beats.

Review: Coming storming back after a three year hiatus, Hospital stalwart Matt Gresham aka Logistics is back with his fourth artist album on London's legendary D&B imprint. The follow up to 2009's Crash, Bang, Wallop sees the Cambridge based producer take a more synth-led approach, covering a wide range of tempos and styles across the 15-track selection but still retaining his core sound. Highlights include "2999 (Wherever You Go)", future jungle cut "Early Again" and the gorgeous melodies of "Sendai Song", not forgetting euphoric outro "Watching The World Go By". Top quality stuff here - don't miss out.

Review: Sub Focus made his comeback on Hospital this year and it couldn't have come soon enough, being in dire need of some of his signature drum breaks and electro-filtered synth lines. The original mix features Alice Gold's spiritual and soothing vocals, riding its beats like a galloping train, while on the B-side, wobble meister Xilent unleashes his fury in the form of squealing, relentless drum stabs and bass howls.

Review: S.P.Y makes his highly anticipated debut on Hospital Records with Love & Hate, a four-track journey into the darkest depths of D&B with plenty of old skool influences, marking a return to core values and a pure sound. The title track is dominated by pounding sub bass stabs with moody atmospherics and twisted diva vocals. "Clouds" blends brooding virus synths with machine funk for a techstep banger, whilst "Sleepy Hollow" sees S.P.Y strip back production to a Detroit influenced sound with epic synths. The S.P.Y remix of Submotion Orchestra's "All Yours" rounds things off in style.

Drawing Straws
Review: Since dropping his eponymous debut album in 2010, Boris "Netsky" Daenen has been an integral part of the Hospital family. His sound - fun, anthemic and synth-heavy but with more than a dash of high grade musicality - is typical of Hospital's move from backroom liquid label to festival favourites. 2 should appeal to the Hospitality crowd, boasting as it does a mix of funk-flavoured rollers (see "911", "Give & Take" and the Starburst-flavoured "Puppy"), grandiose vocal anthems ("When Darkness Falls"), hip-hop influenced dubstep jams ("Squad Up", "Get Away From Here") and forthright tweakers ("Detonate"). There's the odd slip-up (the cheap-sounding "Jetlag Funk"), but that aside 2 is an impressive set.

Review: We've had five consecutive days of blistering sunshine in the UK, so it must be time for the annual Hospitality Summer Drum & Bass CD. Now something of a staple in the release schedules, it rarely fails to please with its sweet, soulful, energetic and, above all, funk-laden take on jungle. This year's edition is mixed by Hospital bossman London Electricity (aka Tony Colman), who squeezes 30-plus tracks into an hour of mid-price, festival-friendly fun. There's little in the way of surprises - by now, we should all know what to expect from Hospital and their shimmering brand of 'disco drum and bass' - but plenty of bangers, making it a snip at L4.99.

Review: On this third album for positive D&B heavyweights Hospital, Cambridge-based Dan Gresham continues his journey into the shimmering world of soulful drum and bass. As with previous sets, you pretty much know what to expect high quality pop-tinged vocal D&B dripping with soaring strings, rich basslines and luscious synths. This time round, there are also a number of excursions into hip-hop tempo jams most notably Stac collaboration "Pieces Of You" and the brilliantly uplifting "The Love Has Gone" and an emphasis on stronger songwriting. Certainly, "Words And Pictures" is a strong set, and should appeal to both progressive D&B heads and general listeners alike.
