Review: Tides is the latest album from Hybrid Minds, whose efforts have landed him at the forefront of the contemporary pop/drum & bass race of late. Hot off the heels of an initial LP release, this CD edition of Tides tops up the album's format-ography. The album sounds as huge on optical-digital as it does analogue; every track is effortless in its glossy command of space and bursting vocal synergy, calling attention to Hybrid Minds' collaboration-heavy approach to creation (every track bar one is a feature track, the best of which include Tom Walker, Grimm and Charlotte Plank).

Review: Given the uniqueness of his madcap and mind-altering trademark sound, the release of any new album from Tom Jenkinson AKA Squarepusher is big news. Given that his last new full-length landed four years ago, the arrival of Dostrotime has got an awful lot of experimentalists in a bit of a lather. Like many albums that have surfaced in the last couple of years, it was apparently inspired by the "novel, eerie, sublime silence of lockdown", with the title being a reference to "how time passed differently". Quite how this plays out within the music itself is open to interpretation; for the most part, what's on offer is prime Squarepusher - all distorted, full-throttle acid lines, mutilated experimental D&B beats, analogue electronics and rasping, strobe-lit nods to raves,

Review: Calibre as we all know is a machine. The man has produced thousands of records, each one as exceptional as the next, across drum & bass, house and bass music. His latest album Rudy shows no dip in quality with another a masterful display of his signature sound making it another timeless classic. Each track is a journey into his famously lush melodies, intricate rhythms, and soulful vocal touches, all of which showcasing Calibre's unmatched skill in crafting emotive drum & bass compositions. From dreamy atmospheres to the pulsating low ends, heart aching samples and driving drums, every moment captivates with its depth and keen sense of musicality.

Review: There is a mix of old-school dons and new-school talents from all over the world here, each adding their own unique spin to Goldie's timeless. It's a record that remains a drum & bass benchmark, but also one of the most seminal in all of electronic music. The man behind it celebrated its anniversary last year with various different projects and now follows that up by handpicking a selection of remixes to take his most treasured material. Searchlight, aka Irish drum and bass producers ZeroT and Beta2, are signed exclusively to Goldie's Fallen Tree 1Hundred label and bring some lush jazz and broken beats to 'State of Mind' and later 'Sensual' while Metalheadz tastemaker J Kenzo brings dark, minimalistic and tribal sound to his Tribute remix of 'Jah'.

Review: Phonica Records toasts 20 years in style with this three-disc exploration of the house and techno they're best known for. It's no surprise they were able to pull in a heavyweight cast of characters for this collection, but they've made sure to leave enough room for the stars of tomorrow, too. Familiar names include Daniel Bell, Shy One, Willow, Peggy Gou, Midland, Will Saul and Ron Basejam, but there's also surprise inclusions like Tim Reaper and Comfort Zone teaming up for a signature jungle excursion. This is a heavyweight reflection of everything Phonica has represented for the past two decades, but equally a sign towards where they're heading in the future and it couldn't sound rosier.

Review: Dominick Martin's Shelflife series takes us back into the very core of Calibre over the past 20 years, finally sharing tracks which were previously only aired in his DJ sets. It's testament to his rigorous approach to the music he released over that time, given how incredible some of these cuts are, but it's also a relief to finally be able to cop the likes of 'Breather', 'Home' and 'I Don't Care What U Say'. The range of d&b on offer here is remarkable too, from moody, heads-down tech steppers to gorgeous, soul drenched swooners, with an unerring quality which lets you know it's Calibre at the controls.

Review: 2019 has been big for Goldie. The late summer saw the anniversary reissue of his second album "Saturnz Return", and now he's put together a bumper collection of drum & bass gems. Across "60 tracks that smashed it" as the release is sub-titled, the proudly British sound of drum & bass is explored and exposed thanks to music from all the key players including Roni Size, Doc Scott, Photex, Krust, DJ Zinc and many more familiar faces. Of course, the Metalheadz boss' own "Inner City Life" kicks off in triumphant fashion and the vibes keep coming thick and fast from there on in.

Review: When Hospital Records launched some 16 years ago, it was primarily to focus on the more soulful side of drum & bass. While London Elektricity's imprint is now about so much more than that, many of its' releases still bristle with an expansive soulfulness. This mixed, mid-price, two-disc affair pays tribute to the label's soulful side, delivering sinewy, string-laden gems, vocal anthems, and liquid D&B classics from the likes of SPY, High Contrast, Nu:Tone, Logistics, Danny Byrd, Phuturistix and, of course, London Elektricity. Who mixed it isn't revealed, but they've done a great job; both discs ripple with melody, emotion and, of course, skittering dancefloor rhythms. This is Fast Soul Music, after all.

Turn Up The Bass
Review: On Evolve, Nick Douwma has gone back to the future, offering up an album that giddily mines the music that inspired him to fall in love with electronic dance music in the first place. So, while it's undoubtedly a radio-friendly, 21st century big-room dance album, the collected tracks include nods to many classic dancefloor anthems (see 'Fine Day', an EDM-d&b re-make of the Opus III classic that also inspired Orbital's 'Halcyon'), crossover acts of old (the Prodigy, the Chemical Brothers), vintage hardcore and jungle, and 90s house. A string of guests and collaborators swing by to help, including ARCO (on recent single 'Vibration (One More Time)', Chicago house stalwart Gene Farris (on the throbbing, festival-friendly 'It's Time'), and hardcore and jungle pioneer Jonny L ('Turn Up The Bass').

The chart topping duo knows a thing or two about crafting big bangers and massive anthems and that's what they do here as they follow up their last album What Came Before with more massive moments. Plenty of guests help them along the way here such as IRah & Flowdan & Trigga & Takura on the massive 'Baddadan' and Avo & Horrid1 on 'On The Block', a collar with Mosey which is also devastatingly large.

Review: Congratulations are due to veteran British D&B label Shogun Audio, as this compilation of never-before-heard tracks marks their fiftieth release. As you'd imagine, there are some reliably big hitters present, including Commix, Friction, Icicle and Rockwell. Musically it's impressively varied, flitting between slick, garage-influenced soulful flavours, pulsating low-end skank and relentless rollers. There's even the odd trip into atmospheric dubstep territory (see Icicle & Distance's "Exhale"). With such high-grade producers on show highlights come thick and fast, with Break's flourishing "Tryin" and the smart two-step soul of Alix Perez, Spectrasoul and Rockwell's "Montellier" standing out. An essential purchase for junglists everywhere.

Review: Jungle veteran Dom Angus has been around the block a fair few times in the last 17 years. Here he recalls his formative years with an album inspired by the halcyon years of drum and bass: the 1990s. Unlike previous sets, this fifth full-length is an entirely solo effort. Cut free from collaborators, Angus is able to fully let loose in his own inimitable style. In practice, this means a loose, rough-and-collection of growling bangers that gleefully harks back the jungle's golden age whilst retaining one eye on contemporary dancefloors. For those who've followed his career to date, The Big Bang is a refreshing blast from the past.

Review: With Christmas fast approaching, it's little surprise to see Radio One's latest First Lady of Dance Music step up to take us on a whistle stop trawl through some of her 2011 faves. Over the course of two discs, the Belfast-born Radio 1 stalwart gleefully charges between contemporary dance styles with the crazed look of a woman who's spent far too much time propping up the bar at 5am. Predictably, the resultant two-disc mix rips through floor-baiting bangers (Redlight, Ruska, Azari & III etc) and much-played anthems ("Look Right Through", "Night Air", "Wilhelm Scream" etc), with a few pleasant surprises (Bombay Bicycle Club, Little Dragon) thrown in for good measure

Review: Having initially impressed on Good Lookin' Records in the late 90s with a series of melodic, blissful and far-sighted drum and bass records, Blu Mar Ten have since tried their hand at atmospheric trip-hop and dewy-eyed ambience. Here they return to their first love with a deliriously positive set of shimmering soundscape D&B. To keep things fresh there are occasional diversions into tougher, rolling territory - see the old skool junglisms of "Made In London" and tech-step bounce of "Problem Child" - but for the most part Love Is The Devil is as glorious, soothing and indulgent as you'd expect.

Review: Whilst it's now considered one of drum and bass's most towering institutions, there was a time when Hospital Records' uniquely melodic brand of "disco D&B" was thrillingly cutting edge. Here Tony Colman's label celebrates 15 years of dancefloor bangers and changing attitudes with a fine anniversary collection. The first disc boasts 15 new or previously unreleased exclusives from the label's artists, with notable contributions from Nu:Tone (whose Adele rework is a delight), High Contrast, Danny Byrd and S:P:Y. Disc two, meanwhile, offers a treat for long-term listeners and label newcomers in the shape of a dizzying 29-track mix of Hospital classics from regular contributor Cyantific. Terrific stuff.

Review: What is it about break core artists that make them so ridiculously prolific? Even Weight is Cincinnati-based noisenik Enduser's ninth album since 2003. Those who've closely followed his progress will know what to expect: IDM melodies, white noise and distorted ambience fused with classic jungle breaks and skittering D&B rhythms. It's a formula capable of delivering both calm introspection (see the delightful deepness and soul-flecked beauty of "Praise" or the string-laden soundscape "Climbing Backwards") and in-your-face nastiness (check "Void" or the Nine Inch Nails-ish "Retribution"), with a side order of melodic jungle to boot ("Wrong Turn"). The whole thing stirs memories of the long-forgotten Ninja Tune offshoot N-Tone, which can only be a good thing.

Review: Now in its ninth year, the annual Sun & Bass beach festival has become a firm staple of the drum & bass calendar. Here, the organizers unveil their first branded compilation - a two-disc round up of sun-flecked D&B from some of the scene's most notable talents. While the second, mixed disc from Utah Jazz provides an iPod-friendly accompaniment to winter sun holidays, it's the unmixed first disc that really excites. Here you'll find exclusive, full-length tracks from Dom & Roland (whose sax-laden "Coast To Coast" stands out), SPY (the surprisingly moody "Sabotage"), Lenzoman (the superb "Diamonds") and Calibre, whose joyously anthemic "Peace Organ" sounds like a summer anthem in waiting.

Review: There's always been something of the 'no-nonsense' about Klute's Commercial Suicide label - not just musically but in its overall approach. That straightforward, no-frills attitude is much in evidence on the plainly titled Commercial Suicide Compilation, a collection of new and unreleased cuts released around the tenth anniversary of the London-based imprint. Musically, there's plenty of windswept, salt of the earth fare from the likes of Mindscape, Gridlock and Break, alongside more cutely constructed, melody-driven material from Nymfo & State Of Mind, SPY and, of course, Klute himself. Even the price - a handy L6.99 - screams 'rock steady'!

Review: Confirmed Luke Vibert-watchers will recognize Plug as another of the Cornishman's many pseudonyms. It was briefly used back in 1996 for a one-off album entitled Drum & Bass For Papa, a splendid set of typically off-kilter jungle cuts that didn't quite fit his Amen Andrews or Wagon Christ projects. Here, Vibert attempts a resurrection, offering up an album's worth of Plug material recorded in the mid '90s but only recently rediscovered (or so the story goes). In typical Vibert fashion, the tracks that make up Back On Time still sound fresh despite their vintage. Sure, there are clear echoes of jungle's past, but also plenty of material that could still be considered ahead of its time 16 years on.

Review: Given that new volumes of Liquid V's Club Sessions series are a rarity - the first three volumes appeared over six years - it could be argued that the appearance of a fourth instalment is something of an event. This time round, Liquid V regular Kabuki is at the helm, compiling an unmixed, two-disc selection that neatly showcases the looser, more musically advanced end of the jungle spectrum. As you'd perhaps expect, there's plenty to enjoy, with notable contributions from Peshay, Calibre, Dramatic & DBAudio and, of course, Kabuki himself. There's also a thrilling sunshine smasher from Mr Joseph called "Wonderful Feeling" that's almost worth the admission price on its own.

Review: This collaborative full-length from Loxy and Resound has been in the works for some time, having been slated for release since 2009. Perhaps we should be grateful for these delays and re-writes. Burning Shadows certainly shows greater ambition than most drum and bass albums, opening with two typically atmospheric, sci-fi tinged electronica cuts before gradually increasing the dancefloor pressure as it progresses. It's spooky and atmospheric, but blessed with a far more interesting aural palette than many similar full-length D&B excursions - not to mention a thrilling variety of rhythms and drum sounds, from tribal dubstep beats to skittering junglisms via eerie downtempo grooves. Epic stuff.

Review: Throughout the last two decades, many of the most successful jungle and drum & bass imprints have carved their own musical niche. Whether that's for releasing soulful positivity (Hospital), straightforward floorfillers (Metalheadz, V) or cosmic deepness (Good Looking), great D&B labels find their own path. Abyss, a Polish D&B imprint, has yet to find its niche. Yet Mystical Deep Volume 2 hints at great things to come. While it includes the odd tech-tinged growler and dancefloor rumbler, most of the album's greatest moments are deep, musical and dreamy, occasionally sidestepping standard junglist rhythms in favour of Exit style experimentation or Bukem-ish mellow grooves. You get the feeling 2012 could be a big year for Abyss.

Review: Despite being only 20 years of age, Kazakhstani liquid funk maestro Command Strange has already built up a discography of well over 50 releases - including 12s on Hospital, Fokuz and Influenza. Say what you like, but the kid's got some work rate. Of course, this would mean nothing without skills and musical talent, but Command Strange has both in bundles. As a result, this second full-length - a follow-up to 2010's impressive debut album Soul Booster - is something of a delight. It mixes typically deep and cosmic concoctions (see the brilliant "Just Relax & Look At The Sky") with serious liquid rollers and occasional forays into straightforward downtempo territory ("Untitled"). If you like your D&B deep, liquid and musical, you should be all over it.

Review: If the January blues are getting you down, this low-price mix-up from Tomahawk could put a smile back on your face. Acting as a promotional tool for Hospital's increasingly popular Hospitality party brand, it offers an exciting and, at times, joyous journey through contemporary D&B that's never less than rip-roaring fun. There are plenty of D&B strands represented, from Hospital's own funk and string-laden style, via rave-tinted old skool junglisms (remixes from Stray and Nu:Tone), via deeper cuts (Sin, Blu Mar Ten) and even the odd spot of two-step (Frederic Robinson's superb "Laughing At Clouds"). With 31 tracks shoehorned into 70 minutes, it's a real non-stop rinse-out. Highly recommended.

Review: Just under a year after unleashing the first Internal Affairs compilation, Horizons Music offer up a second dose of decidedly spooky drum & bass. Those who checked the first selection should know exactly what to expect: atmospheric cuts that eschew oft-used rhythms in favour of tight, contemporary drum programming. The line-up of producers on offers is more "up and coming" than "big hitters", but that doesn't seem to have effected the quality. There are some real delights to be found amongst the ten, full-length floor fillers, not least the delicate pianos and starchy beats of album closer "Floodgate" by Data.

Review: John B Williams may have tamed some of his more extreme eccentricities over the years - the wild hair and make-up of old are long gone, for example - but his music still takes drum & bass in a myriad of unusual directions. Light Speed, his fourth studio album, is no different. Alongside piano house and D&B mash-ups, alien-bating space-jungle and grandiose, Hopsital-ish builders, you'll also find rare forays into 4/4 territory ("Vertigo"), bouncy, electrohouse-influenced vocal anthems ("Journey") and murky, low-end bangers ("Dancing In The Dark"). It's entertaining stuff, all right, even if you may have to buy a guidebook to keep up!

Review: More than a few eyebrows were raised when Danny Boyle announced that he'd asked Underworld to write music for the London 2012 Olympics' opening ceremony. While the veteran dance combo has produced some thrilling music over the years, their current output doesn't quite hit the heights of Underworld in their pomp. This career retrospective offers conclusive proof of that argument. By and large, the newer material such as the High Contrast/Tiesto collaboration just doesn't retain the enduring appeal of the older material. With classics like "Cowgirl", "Born Slippy", "Two Months Off", "Rez", "Mmm, Skyscraper I Love You" and "Dark & Long" (their tour de force) all present, Collection is a timely reminder of their talents. At their peak, Underworld were simply untouchable.

Review: Since first turning junglism on its head with his thrilling 2002 debut album True Colours - perhaps the first true "disco D&B" set - Lincoln "High Contrast" Barrett has become one of drum and bass's most revered artists. With a steadfast commitment to the musical possibilities of the genre and a positive mindset, his albums are rarely less than impressive. The Agony & The Ecstacy, his fourth full-length and first for five years, is no different. Grandiose in design and scale, it mixes kaleidoscopic, upbeat anthems ("Emotional Vampires", "Father, Can't You See I'm Burning") with big name collaborations (Tiesto and Underworld variously lend a hand) and comfy, dowbeat grooves ("The Only Way There", "Not Waving, But Drowning") - all sprinkled with Barrett's gorgeous, rainbow-tinted production.

Review: Despite releasing enough singles to fill a small set of IKEA Expedit shelves, Cambridge D&B duo Commix have been pretty slow on the uptake when it comes to albums. So far, they've only released one original full-length, Call To Mind - a pleasing set that won many plaudits on its release in 2007. Curiously, this second full-length is not a new album per se, but rather a collection of previously unreleased cuts recorded between 2003 and 2008. It is, though, a rather fine set, perfectly showcasing their brand of melodic, musically inclined drum and bass. As ever, the beats are loose, organic and snare heavy, the basslines hooky and the melodies sparkling, offering a near perfect balance of dancefloor chops and home listening nous. Fans will lap it up.

Review: Since launching way back in 2006, Hospital's occasional Med School imprint has provided open-minded listeners with some pleasingly revelatory excursions beyond the outer limits of bass-heavy electronica and drum and bass. This latest label comp, featuring a mix of unreleased and little-known cuts from familiar artists and newcomers, continues that trend. Amidst its "bass injections that raise the bar" you'll find the wonky sweetness of Subverse, the ethereal deepness of Blu Mar Ten, the cheery vocal goodness of Twothirds & Bad Apple, the clicky electronic curiosities of Bop and some seriously heavy D&B from Royalston. A pleasingly mixed bag, all told.

Review: Production duo Octane and DLR have been operating around the fringes of the D&B scene for some time, without really leaving a lasting impression. This debut album - a mixture of their productions, plus a smattering of tunes from side project Cymatic - may change that. Something akin to listening to late night pirate radio sometime in the early 2000s, it gleefully flits between smoky rollers, atmospheric post-dubstep jams and the sort of murky, leftfield bass-tronica that was once the sole preserve of dBridge. There are some great moments, not least the sparkling jazz-stepper "Let Me Go" and the fearlessly glitchy "Cometh The Horde".

Here he finally graduates to the big time with an album of his own, naturally on fellow Manc Marcus Intallex's similarly forward-looking Soul:R imprint. With a cast list of big-name producers in tow - Intallex, naturally, but also dBridge, SPY and Calibre - Pottinger showcases his Manc drawl and slick rhymes over tracks that veer from soulful D&B bangers (see "Holding On") and rough wobblers ("Playing With Fire") to deep and groovy hip-hop cuts ("It Aint Easy") and even modern soul ("Habitual").

Review: Ever since first emerging back in 2006, S.P.Y has been tipped for the top. Producer Carlos Lima has always taken a grandiose, musically adventurous approach to drum and bass, marking him out in a scene filled with fly-by-night chancers and darkroom obsessives. It's fitting, perhaps, that this debut album is coming out on Hospital, a label that has long held positivity and fluidity as its core values. What The Future Holds is expansive and upbeat even by Hospital standards, packed with tracks that drip with shimmering strings, bold builds and glistening melodies. Of course, there are tougher and darker workouts - see the "Inner City Life"-ish "Analogue Dreams" and murky "Infiltrate - but these merely serve to emphasize the beauty showcased elsewhere.

Review: Given the usual cutting edge style of Rinse's branded mix albums, it's refreshing to hear a volume that looks to the past for inspiration. Mixed by the London Station's resident 'old skool' expert Uncle Dugs, Rinse 20 is designed as a "history of jungle before it became drum and bass". In practice, that means joining the dots between rave-era hardcore and early junglisms. Dugs does a superb job, mixing it up on two turntables - it's a proper one-take mix, as evident by the vinyl rewinds at the start - and giving long overdue airings to some genuinely forgotten, Amen-heavy gems. As a whirlwind history of early British bass music, it's unsurpassed.

Review: It's five years since the first Samurai Music release. To celebrate, Geoff Presha's acclaimed D&B imprint has decided to put together a follow-up to 2009's well-loved Way of the Samurai compilation. As with the first volume, the tracklist is heavy with exclusives and boasts contributions from a range of scene heavyweights (Marcus Intalex, Loxy & Resound, ASC) and up-and-coming talents. According to the PR blurb, it was designed to offer a snapshot of where D&B is in 2012. While that would be difficult to achieve, it certainly covers most bases, flitting between tech-tinged rollers, melodic futurism and bowel-bothering darkroom boomers. With 22 tracks in total, there's plenty to enjoy.

Review: While this doesn't quite come with a sticker screaming "AS SEEN ON TV!", there's something of the mass-market about this three-disc trawl through 20 years of drum and bass and jungle history from leading junglist website Drum & Bass Arena. Yet it's actually quite good. While confirmed D&B fans will have most of the tracks here - bar a handful of forthcoming exclusives from various big hitters - as a fun, no-holds barred jungle history lesson it's truly comprehensive. It's clear that the compilers have put a lot of effort into reflecting all sides of the D&B sound, from the disco-D&B madness of Hospital, to the classic darkness of Zinc and Bad Company UK.

Review: Second time around for Boris "Netsky" Daenen's sophomore set, the simply titled 2. This time, the original album - a festival-friendly mix of funk-flavoured rollers, grandiose vocal anthems, hip-hop influenced dubstep jams and forthright tweakers - gets joined by a second disc of bonus cuts and remixes. Much of this material is in a similar vein to the original album, though there are curious diversions - see the pop-house of "We Can Only Live Today (Puppy)" and disco-flavoured 4/4 chunkiness of Netsky's own remix of "Love Must Go On" - and a trio of typically-energetic live tracks, recorded at Pukkelpop and AB.

Review: Producer Robin O'Reilly has form. Under the Big Bud alias, he's been making sparkling liquid drum and bass and deep downtempo grooves since the late 1990s. After impressing with a string of albums on Good Lookin', he set up his own Soundtrax imprint. On Blue & Green, his seventh full-length, he continues the melodic journey that started way back in 1995. He's a past master at starry drum and bass, and here fuses classic jungle breaks and snappy rhythms with sweeping chords, cascading pianos, drifting vocal samples and stargazing electronics. It's a tried-and-tested approach, but one that ensures enjoyable listening. For those of a certain age, Blue & Green is a misty-eyed blast from the past.

Review: Young Swiss producer Flowrian is a perfect fit for Dutch liquid D&B specialists Fokuz. To date, he's released very little, but what he has put out hints at great things to come. Here, he drops his debut album, Cinnamon Garden, a fearlessly atmospheric and delightfully melodic exploration of simmering liquid D&B and deep jungle. Of course, there are pleasing diversions - see the bustling junglisms of "River Train", the sweet downtempo grooves of "Road To Atlantis" and the hazy, cinematic hip-hop of "The Mammoths Migration" - but Flowrian is at his best when making intricate, melody-driven liquid grooves. Given that there are plenty on Cinammon Garden - see the beautiful, rough-edged "With Pleasure" and grandiose "The Happy Ending" - you'd have to say he's judged it just right.

Review: Hungarian drum & bass trio Mindscape have been an integral part of the junglist scene for the best part of a decade. Here they drop their third full-length, the follow-up to last year's well-received Bounce LP. In some ways, Martian Chronicles is a good old-fashioned kind of drum & bass album. Concerned with all things intergalactic, its bold riffs, fluid rhythms and cybernetic synths evoke memories of classic jungle full-lengths. This impression is solidified by the inclusion of several old-fashioned bass music staples, including a breakbeat hardcore/rave cut (the excellent "Through & Beyond"), some spacey ambience ("Martian Chronicles (Intro)"), a hip-hop/D&B mash-up, and the flexible jungle-funk of "Spaceface".

Review: Justice's Modern Urban Jazz imprint has always been one of drum & bass's more interesting labels, delivering a diet of experimental jams, sparkling deepness and glistening futurisms. This latest label compilation impresses from the off, Icons' early Wagon Christ-ish "Aspects & Aspirations" delivering a late night blast of retro-futurist flavour. As the album progresses, highlights become more plentiful, from the woozy Latin trumpet and glistening melodies of Glider State's "Nostalgia", and Control Remote's ambient D&B cut "Faded Memories", to the slick Detroit-goes-D&B vibes of The Parameters' "Satellite Respond" and Krash's flowing, delightfully jazzy "Essential 4 Life". An almighty blast from the past with contemporary touches, all told - and hugely enjoyable for it.

Review: There's something pleasingly old-fashioned about this third full-length from Scandinavian D&B explorer Furi Anga. While the glitchy rhythms, electronic beats and mixed-up time signatures are defiantly contemporary (think Exit), his love of spacey atmospherics, drawn-out pads and twinkling melodies recalls the glory days of "intelligent D&B". In other words, Omipresence sounds like an updated take on the LTJ Bukem/Good Lookin' sound, with more than a nod and a wink to dBridge and Instra:mental. At its best, such as on "When My Breath Stops, Will My Wings Unfold" and the chiming "The Night Falls", it's quite, quite mesmerizing.

Review: Since first making his debut on Canada's Stride Recordings back in 2009, Toronto native Rene Lavice has been inching towards 'D&B heavyweight' status. While he's not there just yet, this confident debut album for the mighty RAM Records should nudge him a little nearer his goal. Bold, brash and rave-inspired, with both eyes on the dancefloor, Insidious breathlessly flits between steppy jungle, tech-step and deeper flavours without a care in the world. It has its share of darkness, too - see "Thorax" and the brilliant old skool roller "Tap Dat" - but the overall feel is one of thrilling release. As debut albums go, it's pretty good.

Review: Over the last three years, ASC's Auxiliary label has offered a suitable home to producers inspired by the twin delights of sound design and experimental bass music. As a result, it's become one of the must-check labels for those inspired by the new wave of experimental D&B and leftfield electronica. This mid-price label compilation offers a neat glimpse into the label's intoxicating world. From the Autechre-on-valium vibes of Method One's "Stalagmite" and the Exit-ish delights of ASC's own "Defiant To The End (VIP)", to the voodoo electronics of FIS's "Two Swords" and RQ's bubbling "Waiting", there's plenty to enjoy.

Review: Viennese "stadium bass" combo Camo & Krooked offer further proof of the continued blurring of boundaries between drum & bass, dubstep and electro-house. Between The Lines, a partner album to last year's radio-friendly debut Cross The Line, gleefully mashes these genres into a heavy, radio-friendly mixture guaranteed to get pulses racing at giant outdoor raves. There are, of course, cute touches - see the twinkling pianos on BCEE's remix of "Afterlife" - but for the most part the assorted remixes and B-sides collected here have all the subtlety of a punch in the mush from Vladimir Klitschko. It is, though, heaps of fun and doesn't take itself too seriously - something that can't be said for all dance music these days.

Review: Like many of Exit's artists, Dan Habarnam has made the journey from left-of-centre drum and bass to straight-up electronica, admittedly with a few stops to fuse IDM and jungle along the way. This debut album fits neatly into the Exit canon, offering a hazy mix of crystalline electronic melodies, fuzzy ambience, cinematic moodiness and just a whisper of dubstep-inspired bottom end. There are moments of rhythmic purity - see the shuffling, wonk-hop goes ambient vibes of "Memory" and woozy, slo-mo dub techno of "Fragments" - but these largely play second fiddle to intoxicating beatless compositions. These are uniformly excellent, with the lazy, late night lament of "Betray The Past" standing out.

Review: There's something decidedly bleak, almost heartbreakingly sad, about this collaborative album from sometime D&B producers ASC (head honcho of Auxiliary) and Sam KDC. As with ASC's most recent full-length, the steadfastly ambient The Light That Burns Twice As Bright, it's a moody and atmospheric affair, dealing mostly in FX-laden drones, slow-burn melodies and near-endless chords. At times it sounds like a post-modern take on the drifting ambience of Pete Namlook, at others a weary comment on the current state of Western society. Throughout, there's an odd warmth and emotional resonance that belies its introspective approach. Closer "No Safety Zone", for example, seemingly shimmers with toasty warmth.

Review: Coming storming back after a three year hiatus, Hospital stalwart Matt Gresham aka Logistics is back with his fourth artist album on London's legendary D&B imprint. The follow up to 2009's Crash, Bang, Wallop sees the Cambridge based producer take a more synth-led approach, covering a wide range of tempos and styles across the 15-track selection but still retaining his core sound. Highlights include "2999 (Wherever You Go)", future jungle cut "Early Again" and the gorgeous melodies of "Sendai Song", not forgetting euphoric outro "Watching The World Go By". Top quality stuff here - don't miss out.
