Review: Sam KDC seems like a perfect fit for the Samurai Red Seal label, the UK producer having previously proved himself more than capable of crafting finely judged atmospheric soundscapes for exemplary labels such as Auxiliary and Nu Directions. Between Dreams is a natural progression for KDC, with Samurai Red Seal granting him the freedom to burrow deeper into elegant and emotive layers of sound, with the title track an all too woozy and intoxicating blend of blissful textures and contemplative moments. "Downpour" introduces an element of darkness and could quite easily be mistaken for one of Demdike Stare's more rhythmically driven moments. Superb.

Review: What a trio! Each one of the players involved in this EP has had a storming year so far... And this cute little Dispatch 10 incher is only going to bolster their presence as impeccable emerging artists. There's a great balance across the release, too, with both tunes countering each other with true style. Skeptical & Dub Phizix's "Lastik" is a raw, metallic stepper that glistens with early tech step charm. Meanwhile Halogenix adds balance with more full-bodied, atmospheric number. With icy pads, glitches and a resounding bass technique, it's the perfect foil for the grimier antics on the A.

Review: A tasty little teaser piece from his album Machines, here Enei calls up Eastcolours and Noel to revisit their 2011 hit "Cracker". Spacing out the darkness with a pneumatic bass plunge and more emphasis on the percussion it's more than worthy of its VIP status. Meanwhile on the B we find a brand new, non-album track "Crawlers". A tag-team with Mefjus, there's added edge and paranoia that gives it more than a faint whiff of Black Sun Empire. Tasty!

Review: Recent Ninja signing and all round great New York soul hope Jesse Boykins gets some choice remix treatment from a pair of artists who lend themselves to diverse assignments outside their common generic fields. Jacques Greene brings a whisper of his house leanings to bear, but focuses more on intricate reams of warm melody to work around behind Boykins' breathless vocal. Machinedrum meanwhile brings a more kinetic flavour with his inimitable drum programming, crafting a stunning syncopation with the vocal that leaves the tune running in two directions yet sounding utterly fluid at the same time.

Review: One of Horizon's finest assets, Naibu's been peddling his own distinctive deep D&B for years now, flickering off and on the radar with sonic stealth and sophistication. Here we find the Frenchman releasing two of the most alluring pieces from last year's three-piece 10" EP set. "Autumn Comes" is especially engaging thanks to a warm layer of warped harmonies, vaguely urgent bell tones and an impending sense of piano-purged depression. "Wrong", meanwhile, belies its confusing title; A skippy, swaying bass-bugle with dreamy harp licks and trippy whispers of percussion, it's anything BUT wrong! Beautiful.

Review: Recently announced as the latest artist to trade Planet Mu for Ninja Tune, Machinedrum celebrates a four LP deal with the venerable UK label with a limited 10" drop for Fracture's Astrophonica label. One of the leading lights in 150bpm+ excursions, Astrophonica has been dominated by Fracture's own output - last year's The Limit VIP being a label highlight - though appearances from the likes of Om Unit demonstrate they do broaden their remit occasionally. Clissold VIP expertly shifts from the fidgety drum edits of it's opening minutes to a jungle riffing mid section with the kind of aplomb the Berlin based Travis Stewart is renowned for whilst the BoC style synths on display throughout ensure the track remains finely balanced between accessible and aggressive. This 10 " in a word? Essential!

Review: Alix Perez here with a release you'd expect to surface on Eglo under his Arp 101 alias as opposed to Shogun Audio. Regardless, Annie's Song is a bold statement of Perez's undoubted production talents, demonstrating he's fully capable of producing tracks that in a perfect world would gain mainstream success. Teaming up with vocalist Sam Willis, "Annie's Song" is a vivid, 21st century slant on UK RnB replete with slow burning synths, half step drum programming and plucked strings. On the flip Shadow Child rewires the track for the club, fixing on an authentic UKG flex that sounds like it's been dug up from a forgotten DJ EZ mixtape.

"Dope Boy" deftly weaves and bobs with a similar flavour to Calibre's "Barca"; all subby, steppy and a finely tuned hollow one-note bass lick. Review: Recently nominated as for the excellent My Favourite DJ feature by Dutch duo June Miller, Loxy's standing in the drum and bass community means this innovative London based producer requires little introduction. League Of Shadows marks the latest chapter in Loxy's ongoing series of collaborations with Finnish producer Resound, which most recently saw the two drop the excellent Burning Shadows LP on Exit Records. This two track limited edition red ten inch displays two distinct styles to the Loxy & Resound palette, with the title track deftly combining real life jungle atmospherics with brittle, pressurised rhythms that scrape inside your dome piece. "Metro" is far ruder, all heavy stepping drums and strains of purple funk veering off into the darkest recesses of mid range heavy rave with aplomb.

Review: Veteran Jungle professors Total Science continue their fruitful production partnership with the prodigious whippersnapper known as S.P.Y. - dropping two more cuts of pressure on this rather smart looking clear yellow ten inch. "Stay" will have the jungle purists all misty eyed with thick gloopy bass excursions reverberating from the nether regions amidst a delicious steppah's riddim augmented by evil sub bass deviations - a superlative example of drum and bass at its most dark and danceable. On the flip "Cast Away" proves just as crucial, laying down a dubbier rhythm over sprawling Detroit chords and tinny beats before dropping into the core segment of f***ed up, growling machine funk. Every bit as worthy as their recent Ghost Rider drop.

Review: Exit Records drop a second tantalising Mosaic Vol 1 ten inch sampler ahead of the main course which is set top drop at the end of the month. Instra:mental plough deep into the bowels of downtempo machine funk drum and bass experimentalism on "Scene 3", with a decidedly neon tinged synth hook swirling around the spaces between cascading industrial percussion and spurts of sci fi bass menace. On the flip, Mode works at a similar tempo on "Stepping Stones" with the barbed electronic pulses and intermittent bursts of sub bass dynamics that ride the half step stutter, offset by pads rich with ethereal detail. Big tip!

Review: Fresh from their long-awaited debut album City Of Gold, "Kill The Silence" has enjoyed an epic journey since it first landed as electro-aping instrumental "The Lights". Now complete with big bold vocals from Ayar Marah, it remains one of the staple bangers of 2015. Flip for the equally dramatic monster "Is It Love". Galvanised with a yearning vocal from Laconic, if drum & bass was a movie and there was a chips-are-down moment with an emotional montage where it bites back the tears and comes back fighting this would be the song to soundtrack it.
