Review: 2013 has been THE year for Need For Mirrors; releases have flown our way on an almost weekly basis via labels such as V, Flexout, Estate, Drum & Bass Arena and Commercial Suicide. What's more, every single one of them has sparkled with icy, industrial charm. Both cuts here are no exception; "Sling Blade" is a slamming Blue Note flash back with bold cymbal splashes and dubbed minor key stabs. As its name suggests "Grapefruit" comes with a sharp fruity bite as the juicy bassline flickers between the spaces amongst the kicks, gurgling and groaning in harmony with the tart snares. Heaviness.

Review: Following "Issue One" in September, Veil returns with another collection of wildly future-focussed creations. Sam KDC goes all techno with "Ascetic". Double kicks a go-go, it's the genre at its funkiest. ASC, meanwhile, sets phasers to stun with his startling slow breakbeat number that tips a nod to the early prog chapters. For serious sonic sickness head for "Trapped Within The Circuit", a muffled lo-fi paranoia jam that sounds like a really early Chemical Brothers track that been rusting in acid for the last 20 years. Method One completes the set with the trembling, emotional "Under The Same Stars". Quintessential electronica.

Review: The Dispatch LTD series continues to go from strength to strength, with their fifteenth offering featuring Dispatch debuts for Kolectiv, Dexta and Mauoq. Both tracks here demonstrate the Kolectiv trio, Dexta and Mauoq are more than suited to the Dispatch label and there's an auspicious sense of studio chemistry at play throughout that we hope will lead to more of these collaborative productions. Both "Human Sacrifice" and "Lemonade" work from a stripped back rhythmic framework, and the space allows them to really show off their skills for crafting walls of sound loaded with atmosphere - the taut steppers vibe of the latter just shades it for us.

Review: Two stunning slabs of sub gold from Luton trio DBR UK. "Paranoia" lives up to its name; dark, creepy and ominous, the subs ooze menace as slippery lead lines play games like random noises echoing upside your head when you're walking through a dodge area late at night. For many, though, this release is all about the startling star-gazing soul of the B-side "Say What You Want". The beats skip, the synths swoon and the bass has heaps of spacious to stutter and gurgle as Amanda Seal lays down some sensuous vocal magic. As DBR continue to gather momentum, this will be seen as a career-shaping release. Guaranteed!
